Been using this as my first ever retinol product for a couple of months with zero irritation. You'd hate the packaging version we have here in Thailand even more haha. It's the automatic dropper version which is meant to measure out exactly the amount you need but it gives you barely any product (I know they say pea sized amount with retinol but it isn't enough to even cover the forehead) and you then have to press, and hold the button on top in and go into the bottle to get more out. Glad you're doing 3-4 drops, as that's what I've been doing.
I also live in Thailand and have been using this wonderful product for 8 months. I have problem with the pea size drop that the plunger emits which sufficient to cover my face and neck.
Hi Dr. Sugai - can you do a review of the efficacy of this Olay serum vs. the CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol serum? I wholeheartedly prefer CeraVe's pump mechanism, but am willing to struggle with the Olay dropper if the actives are more potent. Thanks!

My favorite serum for my super dry skin! I am using curology which is custom made and it makes me peel a lot! I am thinking of going back to using only the Olay serum only again!
I have problem with oily skin..and retinol serum really help but if I used retinol everyday my skin become very dry. So now I use retinol only 2-3 times a week and use hyloronic serum on nights I don't use retinol. It works really great no wrinkle, acne, no dark spot at age 47 yo

Honestly, I'm a lazy person to use skin care, but I'm tired of acne. Then I used olay retinol cream (purple), the first time I used it there was no irritation, but some big pimples appeared in unusual spots. After a few weeks, no pimples ever appeared again. I started using it only once a week, after 2 weeks I increased the dose to twice a week, and so on. In the morning, I put on a bakuchiol serum, hyaluronic acid serum, and sunscreen (all from different brands). I opted for retinol to prevent acne but got anti aging as a bonus. I have never had acne again, and look the youngest among my friends, thanks to retinol.

The one I bought doesn't have a dropper, it has a button to push and hold on to draw the product and avoids any spillage, maybe there are different bottle structures in different countries. But great product overall.

Retinol is good with niacinamide but not recommended with the niacinamide serum. Thanks, I've been searching if I can apply niacinamide serum at night as well
In Singapore, the Olay marketing materials clearly say step 1 serum, step 2 cream for this range. So I’m guessing the retinol percentage is low enough to be layered actually. Not sure if formulations might differ between countries.
That is a great question- would only layer if the brand instructs it like for example Neutrogena retinol oil and then retinol cream are meant to be layered. Thanks for sharing!

I'm already using tretinoin but would you suggest using this as al well and alternate the two of them to lower the risk of irritation? My skin can tolerate tretinoin got up to 2/3 days straight then it stings a a little so I have to back down for one or two nights.

So I tried these products and my skin had the worst breakouts of my life!!! It took forever for my skin to get back tk normal. It was horrible. My face likes normal ass soap, a little bio oil and watermelon oil. Ugh i guess I’m going to have to go to a dermatologist to see what kind of skin care is best for me moving forward.

I always apply my moisturizer that has retinol in it on wet skin. I know that moisturizers should be applied on wet skin. We would have to let our skin dry, apply the serum and weight again to apply the moisturizer with some water?

Depends on tolerance. I put retinol that says not around eyes around my eyes for years. 😂. I advise you first buy an eye one as well and ease yourself into using a face retinol around eyes (if you plan to do so ）
This same exact formula comes in an under eye cream. I use the serum, the under eye cream, and then the max 24 moisturizer with no problems. I'll be 59 in a couple of months and I love OoO ❤️

I’m scared to try the serum. I tried the Olay retinol 24 in the jar. My face would burn and eventually started itching. I stopped using it and my face no longer burns and my itching has significantly decreased. I would like to try the serum but it just worries me I might have the same reactions.
Normal for a retinol, it means it actually works. Just use it twice a week at first, maybe even over a lightweight moisturizer to buffer the retinol absorption then you can easily use this every night, retinol is pretty gentle compared to prescription tretinoin. Serums are absorbed more quickly into the skin so chances are it's gonna be stronger and more irritating for you. Honestly this is a very good over the counter retinol, you could try the inkey list retinol Serum as well but I think it's slightly more expensive.

They have different products. But I don't think they are meant to be used together. Unless Olay advices it's okay. Best place is to ask Olay.

Depends on tolerance. I put retinol that says not around eyes around my eyes for years. 😂. I advise you first buy an eye one as well and ease yourself into using a face retinol around eyes (if you plan to do so ）
This same exact formula comes in an under eye cream. I use the serum, the under eye cream, and then the max 24 moisturizer with no problems. I'll be 59 in a couple of months and I love OoO ❤️
I use that serem and the only problem is ..the dropper does not pick up ( suck) the product. Plus it become thick if stored in a cold room.

Can i use the retinol moisturizing cream around my eyes?
My skin would feel too uncomfortable if I wait am hour to put anything after a wash no matter what I use.
I’m scared to try the serum. I tried the Olay retinol 24 in the jar. My face would burn and eventually started itching. I stopped using it and my face no longer burns and my itching has significantly decreased. I would like to try the serum but it just worries me I might have the same reactions.
Niacinamide used to do this to me for about a month until I got used to it. Do you have a sensitivity to that?
You have to work up to it. But one thing you can do is moisturize first. That’s what works for me.
Normal for a retinol, it means it actually works. Just use it twice a week at first, maybe even over a lightweight moisturizer to buffer the retinol absorption then you can easily use this every night, retinol is pretty gentle compared to prescription tretinoin. Serums are absorbed more quickly into the skin so chances are it's gonna be stronger and more irritating for you. Honestly this is a very good over the counter retinol, you could try the inkey list retinol Serum as well but I think it's slightly more expensive.
it makes no sense to jump up to the stronger serum when you haven't acclimatised to the milder product in the jar yet.
