Yeah I did a whole bunch of switching and ops video's on my old layout. 10 min of footage = 3 hours of filming + another 3 editing ! More ammo to why I stopped making videos . Glad to see your carrying on the torch ! You have some great models, and once you progress with scenery and structures you will have a great layout for filming I'm sure of it.
I think making the switching video really made me appreciate the hard work that goes behind some of the videos that inspired me and took for granted the effort involved. I've ordered structures and styrene sheets, which I'll be picking up this week. I can't wait to make all the mistakes and learn from them! Thank you for the kind feedback!
Lance is a great reference by any standard. I hear you about lots of footage and editing/cutting to shorten it. Sometimes I wonder who watch the video all the way to the end ... "Quick and easy production!" Man! Did I laugh at that! Yes, shooting a video is to do so many things and to wear many hats. Your editing software is above and beyond the one I use! Great video of behind the scene well done and quite informative.
Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad I made you laugh. As a Linux nerd, I'm using KDEnlive to edit video. I'm still learning but having quite the fun editing with it. I made a Rapido rant (out of love) for my next video and I have my experience with using JMRI in the works; however, with my order of train stuff ready for pick up I'm itching to start making my first structure! Thank you for your support, inspiration, and encouragement!
@@SouthDownLaughing in a good way of course :) Your skill set and software knowledge is above and beyond mine no doubt about it and you have great result to show. Oooo JMRI? That is interesting... Rapido rant? You won't be the first or the last (I have a few myself!) Your switching layout is very cool. You are very skills and what you do is very good. Structure? If you want the one in my video send me an email and I'll send you the file (tomorrow video explained what I did, very easy) Cheers. Syl.
You are very kind, thank you. Almost finished shooting my current one and will have it on the editing board tomorrow! Thank you for your support and feedback.
I know the feeling 😁 I also usually shoot half an hour of video material and then keep just 2 or 3 minutes after editing in iMovie for iOS… I am usually twice or 3 times longer busy editing than shooting. Your advice about multiple cameras is a good one. It enables you to keep the running session going. I work on one camera (my iPhone 6S+) so I need to stop trains after each scene. I have my small action cam but it is OK for onboard recording but not as a second camera for full scenes. Very good video 👍 It is very interesting to see how to record model trains.
Thank you for the feedback and especially thank YOU for YOUR feedback: it is quite an honour and privilege to receive feedback from someone I follow. A friend told me that for every minute of video is shoot there is going to be at least ten minutes of editing. Currently working on my next video and it will be definitely interesting to edit. I do like how you shoot your videos and I may try some of your tactics when I’m ready for another Switching video.
This was great! Thanks for sharing your process. I don’t think some viewers know the hard work involved in these well edited videos. What editing software do you use? Well done!
Making my own videos makes me appreciate the work others put in their own that much more. Currently using KDENlive on Linux, which I'm told is the poor man's iMovie. Thank you for your feedback, it is quite an honour to have your opinion on my work!
Ultimately it's a matter of using the tools that work for us. If I had an Apple computer I'd probably be using iMovie, but since I'm a Linux user, KDE's finest will have to do.
And some other thing to know is heavier cars in front of the locos and not sandwich lighter cars between them and whatever is the first cars to dropped of go in the front of the train

Thanks! The RS3 is lovely and so far has only been back at Rapido for service once when the motor died. I use KDEnLive (kdenlive.org/) for video editing, an open source application. A bit of a steep learning curve but nothing that tutorials on RUclips don't cover already.

This is brilliant! Such a valuable tool for those of us looking to expand our content
Glad you think so!
Very nice! I love that RS-18/RS-10 (can't tell which one) too!
I can’t either! But absolutely powerful motors that run like Swiss clocks. Thanks for the feedback!
All the trains are beautiful even those in scale
Their appeal is something magical and unexplainable.
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing
Thank you for taking the time to watch and provide feedback!
@@SouthDown anytime!
i could sit here for 50 minutes watching you switch cars around and not get bored
Thank you! I might post a raw switching video just because then. It would be interesting to see who would endure.
@@SouthDown I sure will, I've always been more fascinated in switching out freight cars than just main line running.
excellent video! I hope you have more coming out soon :)

Wow nice. I don’t really do the big editing software. Pretty happy with just iMovie. That was a neat look at what you do.

Another great video. Looks like you need a crew! Camera operator, grip... stunt double?
John, how are your stunt double skills? Do you come in 1:87 scale? And happy new year! To 2022 being dull and boring.

Might be fun to work on a project together. As for the interesting times curse… I have a feeling we are not out of the woods yet.
Nice RS 3 CP pac-man locomotive, what program are you using for editing, I need more practice

There is plan for a meet and greet with You tubers in June , meet at OVR
