  • I am currently experiencing technical difficulties with my computer. While I resolve this issue, please enjoy this silent switching video from December 2023, showcasing one last time the "all white" look that adorned it for so long. This video has appeared in parts in many other videos as content filler and is, at least for me, an enjoyable and relaxing watch when I crave some train spotting.

As always, great to receive feedback from one of the champions of model railroading. Still have your steel wire, let me know which Monday you'd like me over.

That was fun and the sound is very nice

Thank you! This is very flattering. I wasn't expecting this kind of video to generate any feedback, so very pleasantly surprised. This is the aspect of the hobby I enjoy the most, especially just watching a session unfold and taking in the sounds from the decoders.

Nice video! I love the thumbnail picture and its use of perspective. Sorry to hear about the computer problems, but it’s handy to have a spare video on hand!

Thanks for the kind feedback! I rebuilt laptop and while I was at it, made a new VM server with two virtual machines to handle mail and web. Went with Arch Linux this time and my video editing tools are at the ready. Already working on my August 1st video, answering one of the most often asked questions in the channel.

Nice vid. Better make good use of all those paints!

Hehe! Yes! This video was only from Christmas and now already those paints are replaced with a warehouse. Now that I have my workstation back up and running I should plan a more up-to-date video! Albeit I won’t lie, just watching trains do their train stuff is so enjoyable. Thanks for the feedback! Love your abandoned track and cassette!

Great switching. How long have you been in the hobby?

Thank you for your gracious comment. I've been in the hobby a little over three years now. What you saw here was the layout in its state back in December. It's seen grown two more structures, a road, and the beginning of some scenery! Appreciate your time.

I had an N-scale switching layout which gave me a lot of pleasure, with one or two glaring problems... the trackwork was terrible, and I had rapido couplers. Oh, and it was DCC. Watching the movements on your layout make me realise how much more heft HO has, and now I am dissatisfied. Bah. Your trains - and the way you run them - look so much more realistic, and that all makes me think I should get back into the hobby in HO instead. Thankyou for the video, but, rats, now I have to start all over again!

Please don't get discouraged! The fastest way to get to what you want is to learn from the experience of being dissatisfied, even if starting all over again isn't great--I know, this is my second layout after I scrapped the mess that was my first.
The aspect of modelling I love the most is the realistic slow speeds, slow starts, and slow stops of consisted models, so the "heft" you see is all programmed in. You can make these models jack rabbit down the tracks as well.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. I didn't expect this video to generate any comments because it is strictly switching at a calm and relaxing pace and the kind of thing I really enjoy watching, but for sure I thought I was alone on this. Appreciate your feedback!

@@SouthDown Thanks for the pep-talk. I've started another small layout, but I'm bored with it. Or even modelling altogether.

@@pwblackmore I totally understand that. I used to run a not-for-profit magazine for years because that's what interested me. At some point it stopped being fun. So I stopped doing it. Did it feel sad and somewhat bitter-sweet? You bet; however, I focused on the positives that came out of it and the growth/skills I gained. I've since discovered other interests, among which running, model trains, and cycling. Put the trains aside and see where inspiration takes you! Thank you for sharing with me!

Can you give me the dimension of this switching layout?
