I think spam lite and less sodium is better than spam just because of the saltiness but teriyaki is my fav

To be honest - I consider myself to be pretty savvy on the subject of teriyaki (I live in hawaii... its like a must have if you grill around here, We go through gallons of the stuff in a year.)
And yeah, you can detect a slight notes of ginger and garlic powder in the Teriyaki spam (not really quite enough of either... but its there) . Which i rather like if I'm too lazy to glaze my spam with a bit of homemade teri.
Of course when you make teriyaki yourself you use fresh grated ginger, and crushed clove garlic.
Pan fried hard. This is the way.

My grandfather-in-law worked at the original Hormel plant. They used to get SPAM in their shareholders’ boxes of goodies at their annual meetings.

Went to the SPAM museum in Austin, MN last year. It was AWESOME! Historical, Patriotic, Fun and yummy....
I loved the Teriyaki and Chorizo flavors (the staff brings out different flavors for the guests to taste as you are visiting).
Highly recommend a tour....

Turn the list up side down for my preference. I have a cupboard full of Turkey spam for holidays. Spam was a weekly staple in our home growing up, along with liver and onions, hotdogs and cornmeal mush. Dad was a WW2 vet. The only thing he brought back was shrapnel, nightmares and a need for spam ; )
I’ve hated on spam most my life mainly due to the texture. Just seemed strange. But finally gave in and got a can the other day after seeing some vintage pics of families eating it. Cut it extra thin and fried it extra crispy almost like bacon to help get rid of that spam texture I wasn’t too sure about. Put it on toast with a fried egg. Oh man it was really good. Salt was a little much but wasn’t too bad.

I slice spam thinly and pan fry it till crispy brown on both sides...then I warm up two flour tortillas in microwave..put some fried spam prices and add thinly sliced tomatoes and lettuce and spread mayonnaise on top and roll tortillas up and you have a yummy tortillas blt wrap or two...very yummy indeed☺💜

You are correct. The original is no longer edible so to speak. It so salty you can use it as salt.
Try the less sodium. Much better!
You can just choup the original spam and then soak it in water for 10/15 minutes and that will get rid of some of the salt

If "Portuguese Seasoning Spam" is made to taste like linguica, then sauteing it in Port wine would be delicious! I finally proved to my mom as an adult making it that way was good because she said it was "ridiculous" when a classmate and I prepared linguica in grade school as an international foods luncheon!

I have loved Spam for over 60 years. I always liked Classic but as I got older it was pretty salty so now I eat the lower sodium. I like to slice it and either grill it or cook it in a skillet . With eggs or french toast. And it is yummy fried crispy with some maple syrup. Every time I open a can to cook I always slice a nice thick piece to eat right out of the can. I will try the Hickory smoke and PS if I can find them near me.
Spam chorizo, teriyaki, jalapeño, black pepper, tocino, hot and spicy, Portuguese sausage, and hickory smoke are my all time favorite.
I think chorizo and tocino are the same taste but different color.

I disagree. I like turkey best because it tastes least like spam. Not like turkey either, but not like spam.
Couldn't agree more. Turkey is oddly very lean and works great with a lot off oddball whipped together meals. Even an SLT (Turkey spam, lettuce, tomato) tastes amazing. I don't even remember the last time I ate a true BLT
I love hot and spicy or tocino on sourdough with mayo and a pickle. cheese optional. Funny thing, the hot and spicy can only be found in Chinese grocery stores here. I will try Hickory and PS so thanks for the tip.

Oven Roasted Turkey Spam is on of our favorites. We had it for dinner tonight with baked beans.
I love Spam. But, Now I eat the Low sodium kind. Don’t like the “Lite” & I’ll never try the other flavors.
Yup. Low so is the way to go. Good balance between the lite and the OG. Lite is horrible.
I've never tasted Spam. Only place I've ever seen it in stores is in Costco and it's expensive, and there's only the classic one. I'd be interested in trying some of these tho

The Roasted Turkey is definitley different from the original turkey spam they had decades agoi which was very good. Used to make an awesome sandwich out of it: white bread, turkey spam (Not cooked), mayo, american cheese, and sliced fresh habenero peppers. its absolutley delicious.

I learned a new wonderful way to enjoy SPAM from Eden’s Garden in Surigao City. Cut the Spam into the shape of French Fries. Dry the pieces carefully. Heat some oil to high heat. Doing just one piece at time, dip the piece into dry corn starch and put it immediately into the hot oil for a short time. Remove from the oil and drain on a paper towel. Repeat until you have enough.
The restaurant served spam fries that were coated with cornstarch mixed with egg. It was a thicker coating than the first procedure. Strikingly yummy.

I didn't know that there were so many different flavours, I've only ever seen Classic and Bacon flavour, here in the UK
The hickory smoke one is on a different level. Though I also prefer the less sodium one. Spam lite is not too bad, just less salty.
@@meluk6991 The Hickory smoke version sounds like it would definitely be to my taste , like you I prefer low salt versions of things too, I tried that V8 veg juice once and it was far too salty for me, they do a low sodium version of that too, but I've not found it in the UK yet

I'm English, so it has to be Spam Classic for me. A very versatile ingredient for a surprising number of recipes.
I usually buy 25% less sodium spam, But i like to use Franks hot sauce on fried spam and Maggi seasoning.
Golden Honey Grail, the flavor given away at the Spamalot musical, was the tastiest that I ever ate. Nothing else compares. I'd gladly use up one of three wishes to compel Hormel to bring it to supermarkets...

Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've been eating fried bacon Spam with eggs for years, cooked as described in the video, & it's always been fine.
There is a video showing how to lower the sodium. Pre-slice using the small wire meat slicer. Boil the sliced Spam for 5 minutes. Turn off heat and cover for 5 additional minutes. Then fry and enjoy! (I haven't tried this yet).
I saw that video too, it made me want to try Spam again.
I have tried this recipe, and it made a huge difference in the amount of sodium it removed, the meat fried just as nicely, and that salty first bite, was nicely smoothed out! I thought it was very good!!!

Tried a couple of the varieties either the jalapeno or hot & spicy but the the bacon flavored spam was actually pretty good, at least to me, the only one I could stand eating anymore. Used to like the stuff fried as a Boy Scout 50 years, now the texture is pretty disgusting.
I bought the turkey flavor, and I can confirm, it tasted like what my cat’s food smells like 🤢. It wasn’t TERRIBLE when I cooked it but it was odd.
