0:00 House Of The Dragon Episode 1 Breakdown
1:41 Characters Explained, The Fire and Blood book, Targaryen lineage, Viserys, the Iron Throne, The Heir to the Throne Breakdown
20:08 Competition and Outro
Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show I'm your host Paul aka George RR Spoilins and this video we're breaking down the Game Of Thrones Prequel House Of The Dragon. The new HBO Show is packed with easter eggs, callbacks and a lot of big characters that we're gonna be analysing in this video.
The entire series is based on the final third part of Fire And Blood which tells the tale of the Targaryen lineage all duking it out to take their place on the Iron Throne. As we know come Game Of Thrones, the entire House was left almost extinct and this series will be talking about how the house of cards came crashing down.
Beginning at Chapter 12's Heirs Of The Dragon, the original work recounts all the ins and outs of the family tree and it basically gives the idea - if you want to be happy living a kings life, never make a pretty neice your wife.
Now whether you've read it or not doesn't really matter as this breakdown will be covering it all and after becoming an expert on it last night...what did no one else do the reading? I'm here to give you the ins and outs on every single character. Because of this there might be some spoilers but I promise you that I'll not give away any of the big twists or deaths in this video, I just wanna really use the book to add some insight to the characters.
If you've read it then you'll know that it mores like a text book rather than being a story and because of this it's a bit of a slog to get through.
There's massive pages that basically just list character names, talk about them for a bit and then that's it. However it actually gives the series a massive advantage as it means that they can pick certain sections and expand on them massively. They have a few plot points that they have to stick to but beyond that they can go wild with it and it leads to this being such a good first episode.
This show takes place roughly 172 years before the death of the Mad King and the birth of Daenerys.

You totally forgot that Nymeria is Arya’s Dire Wolf lad
Thanx !! Where your The Sandman Season 1 Episode 11 breakdown ??
Got some guy pretending to be you trying to scam in the comments
It's part of the whole series, so ... obviously everyone you like dies and everyone you don't like lives until you decide you like them at which point they die.
Hmm u posted this comment 2 days ago someone had this unlisted and saw the episode early lol
The birth scene was hard to watch, but this first episode has me hooked.
Agreed, I was holding my own stomach while watching it haha
Legit looked away
Man, when he walked in and she was screaming like that I was like "oh shit this isn't gonna be good." It was a hard scene to watch but they did an absolutely amazing job presenting the "reality" of the situation.
Would it be GOT if it didn’t have some uncomfortable scene that’s so real and vile 😂
Major ptsd on my end. But realistic. Maybe too much
Daemon is definitely a hot head, but he’s more loyal to Viserys than Otto. Man literally told his daughter to go woo the king. The Maesters are quite sus as well, feel like they have a thing against the Targaryen dynasty
He’s giving Littlefinger vibes to me hahahaha
There's a whole conspiracy about the maesters are the one who killed the dragons because they didn't like anything about magic.
Otto is definitely power hungry, he reminds me of little finger.
Daemon's first act was to decapitate, mutilate and castrate people. That seems more than hot headed, those actions are more cruel and that type of character in leadership only inspires saddens, rebellion and generally causes instability.
@@chesterhardy8103 I think half of Targaryens go crazy, he’s definitely one of them.
The childbirth scene was brutal af, all while the tournament is happening as well. I was not ready for that.
Have you not seen the original show? It’s always had brutal scenes
Same. I was watching the whole scene on my laptop, full volume and on my headset. The screams were too much to endure. I skipped some of these scenes for peace of mind.
It was a nice flash back to the beginning of the episode when the Queen tells Rhaenyra that a woman's battlefield is the birthing bed. Childbirth is absolutely brutal and violent and seeing that interwoven with the brutality of the tournament (aka fake battlefield) was powerful.
@@SrikkanthG lol I completely understand I was watching that sequence through my fingers thinking "is it over yet?" Leave it to GOT to give us the creepiest and most disturbing birth scenes on TV.
@@tearsong8744 However, that scene was a brutal representation of the risks people take to keep hold of their throne.
When Otto Hightower told his daughter to put on one of her mother's dresses and go comfort the King...... he knew what he was doing.
yah, you can see him smiling when they named Rhae the heir to the throne in the end scene. He got what he wanted. Lots of little-finger vibes there..
He’s basically the Tywin of the series.
@@kayladecker9533 ahhh
@@MK-zz5qe no hes the spiders version of this show only difference is hes not a eunuch but both him and Varys are pulling the real.strings from the shadows and showing they can't be trusted littlefinger doesn't remind me much of anyone in this show so far
Honestly I am sort of glad they showed the childbirth scene cause in my opinion as a guy sometimes we don’t give women the props for having to deal with one of the worst physical pains anyone can experience.
Mens give birth. You a birthing bigot?
Amen, thank you on behalf of femalekind 👍🏼👍🏼
I was skeptical after seeing how the Original series ended but my confidence has been restored already. This first episode was amazing. I’m hopeful!
The ending if the original series didn't really effect how I felt going into this one since I knew it was written by different people.
1rst ep was barbaric hard to watch some on the scenes… the worst of humanity..
@@leftofcenter4 unfortunately this is how it used to be and we are still the same today just with less severity. People will still do anything to get to the top believe me
New producers. New writers. Stop comparing last season. Get over it.
Fool, you types never learn
Not having a Targaryen on the throne may explain why the night king and white walkers chose that time to wake up. That was a question not really answered in GOT. Or it’s a better answer than they woke up just to kill Bran/3 eyed raven.
That sounds right, because it took him time to get his army to the numbers that they had, he probably did start right after Roberts rebellion 💯
That's so true
How are you doing Melissa
I personally think they should have not spoke about it at all beings as sooo many people hated the final series of GOT and the night kings death. It seems like a laxy explaination and a lazy nof to old fans tbh. They should have just let the series stand on its own beings as the story in this series does not have to rely on the old one at all.
@@daisyfish1483 well they had to mention it cus the white walkers had been talked about for centuries in GOT so it would be weird if they weren’t at least mentioned in this series.
@@darryl5924 mentioning them was just stupid because we all know that the white walkers ended up being a pointless threat anyway thanks to poor writing. This episode however is better than the entirety of season 8.
Absolutely loved it. Seeing both Balerion’s skull and hearing Rhaenyra say dracarys gave me chills.
same
Her saying dracatys was so funny and not it
Daenerys said it scarier. Rhaenyra was a bit soft and her dragon bnot so fierce like Daenerys'
Daenerys made all the "dracarys" stuff cringe af
@@erickfusire Well Drogon was like an alpha. He was even thought to be the reincarnation of Balerion. Even when he was smaller, he was a stud and by the time he was huge he was just a monster. Unless I misunderstood, Rhaenyra’s dragon was still young in this episode. And as far as Dany saying it fierce, you have to remember that Rhaenyra has been sheltered her entire life and has probably never even said the word before. Dany kept getting more and more comfortable saying it and and more and more comfortable doing bad things in order to get what she really wanted, which was the Iron Throne.
Anyone else notice how when she was flying her dragon and the bells were ringing… and she didn’t feel the need to murder the city for no reason? Safe to say these writers are so much better than D&D
Lol
all that would be ok if they made Jon king in the end
@thornback Lol, yeah, he made that clear!!
@@postsniper-7532 Anyone but Brandon, really.
@thornback then they might as well have rose robb back from the dead or ned or catelyn to do it all storylines that would have been less offensive then the one they chose .
Just finished it, what an amazing first episode, jesus. When the credits rolled up with GoT theme i had chills all over my body.
I can picture you typing this with your mouth wide open surrounded by unopened funko pops
The cut, wound on his back is a methaphor the throne rejecting him. Not fit to be sitting in it
This is correct and an underrated comment!
I think it was more about how he can’t relax. He sat the throne for awhile before it got crazy. The part we see where he gets cut on his hand, his body had slumped after the confrontation with his brother. You cannot let your guard down on the throne. I think it’s foreshadowing
I thought that too in the books a few of the more unfavourable targ kings keep getting cut on the throne and it happens to Joffrey too lol.
in the book I think it said if you got cut on the throne, you are cursed
@@cking91182 I don’t remember that but I’m rethinking my theory on it. Mad King Aerys was called “King Scab” because he got cut so many times. So maybe there’s something to the theory that the throne chooses the kind. But there isn’t any mention of Robert Baratheon being cut and he wasn’t necessarily a great king. So I don’t know. It’s just a pointy chair I guess
Aegon Targaryen had a dream of the war with the night king and then a couple hundred years later, another Aegon Targaryen (Jon Snow) led that very fight. So cool.
But a Targaryan was supposed to on the iron throne when that happened. It just makes the ruining of Dany’s character in season 8 that much worse
@@ethanwinnegrad3402 yet it came true. she sat on the throne mad or not.
@@MichaSennin Actually she never did sit on the Iron Throne. I mean maybe she did, but we, as viewers, never saw it. We only saw her touch it. She sat on the throne at Dragonstone.
But the great war isn't over. Bran Stark is dead. That is the three eyed raven sitting on the IT. The Great Other. And Aegon Targaryen/Jon Snow is still alive. And so is Drogon. Why did you think T3ER said he was going to go look for Drogon?? He's hoping he doesn't go find Jon/Aegon. Remember there is the possibility of the new show "Snow". Just saying 😉. The NK ended to easily.
@@MichaSennin yes but that was after they defeated the night king
I was definitely nervous after the last season of GOT and how hyped this show was getting. If the show continues to be as great as this episode, I’ll be more than happy. It was a great way to set off a series
It always starts off great, though.
@@skywalker6648 no lol a lot of great series needed a few episoded to kick things off
I'm with the majority. I hated season 8. But was disappointed this universe was so sidetracked due to that season that mostly all spinoffs were canceled. But I'm pleasantly surprised. At first to me it seemed like one of those knockoffs or a rehashed version with similar characters, but the episode was great and won me over.
the end credits with classic GoT theme gave me chills. Nostalgia maxx. I’m so happy that we are back in westeroes. Finished the book recently and I’m happy that George is a showrunner so we won’t stray too far from the GREAT source material. Mondays are fun again!
With the song of ice and fire dream Aegon had, which was passed down to all Targaryen heirs, I wonder whether it was this knowledge that perhaps drove the Mad King mad, and was the reasoning for his hoarding of Wildfire. Maybe this knowledge caused him to have further dreams and visions about the white walkers which drove him even madder. "Burn them all"
As a mother watching the “birth” was harsh…but probably accurate for the times. Though the scene was fictional, women dying on birthing beds before modern medicine isn’t news to anyone .
I just hated how no one asked the queen her opinion before they butchered her up. But, such was life and her and Baelon’s deaths were necessary to move the plot forward.
Such a brutal scene, the sad thing is she would have most certainly understood and come to terms with the situation if explained to her. Yet her say in the matter wasn't given a single thought.
Do you feel that was a solid representation for the lack of power/say a woman had in that time and even somewhat today? I kinda think that’s what they were going for but what do I know lol.
She was told, the king said “they are taking the baby”.
@@kille7543 It wasn't explained to her that they were going to cut her open to take it. You can see her confusion when she was being pinned down and only when she saw the blade did she understand and start fighting for her life.
It was more brutal for my girlfriend because she just had a baby and her epidural fell out while giving birth she felt that scene specially the screaming 😭 since that’s exactly how the entire Labor and delivery heard that night 😭😭
the size of the joust tourney for the Targaryens showed how prosperous and happy king's landing was, the joust under Robert showed how in debt and broke the crown became
With Jon snow getting a spin off show, the comment of “a targaryen must sit on the iron throne” was no coincidence. I think in the end of his show Jon will be King
I felt like this cemented even further that Jons journey is FAR from over.
@@MichaSennin But that is just GOT show canon. HotD is canon to the books (that's why GRRM specifically asked to include the ice and fire scene) GRRM never intended for Jon to extend beyond ASOIAF but they already ruined his story in GOT so my guess is in the Jon Snow show they will retcon alot of GOT stuff to fit the books.
@@justathan8257 we have no idea what will happen to Jon in the books because the story isnt finished. So what is canon and what Martin intends for this character is up to him and still open. the only thing that is canon is that the story isnt over, neither in tv or the books. you're still a clown.
Well drogon kinda melted it lol
It shouldve been Danyraes tho. The ruining of her character was the worst narrtitive decision in the history of television
The king didn't choose his unborn son over his wife. He only had two choices. It was save the baby or lose both. That's how it was in ancient times aswell.
I'm seeing soooo many channels say this it's annoying
Also His reaction to him being told it was a confirmed boy "it's a boy?" in a uncertain tone. Show's he wasn't as confident as he let of that it was a boy. He chose was between a child or the mother. I agree with you.
I'm not mad at him for the "choice" I mad that he didn't tell his friggin' wife😑
@@JoltaeAndwae it's her duty
Like her only reason for being his queen. It was expected from the jump.once she got married her death
Was inconsequential when up agianst her only male child produced
Like that's the only reason she was given the status queen
Unlike every whore and spicklittle in flea bottom.
Her sole job is to make a son.
@@soloKnight813 Shows* Why do so many misuse apostrophes? 😛
Yeahhhhhh I’m all in on this one. I can already tell there’s going to be a few moments in later episodes where my jaw touches the ground. Currently sweeping my floor in preparation
The brutality shown during this peaceful time has me amped for when the bad blood really starts flying. The criminal round up and tournament fights really set one hell of a tone.
Anyone else notice the dagger that killed the Ice King. This show is amazing.
Yup Cats Paw
They have a ton of benefit here that they didn't have with the original. Hopefully they don't fuck it up

Absolutely
Right away and yes fantastic
Respectful this episode was better then the entire last season of GOT...This show is gonna be epic
Maybe for the first few seasons, lol.

"The only thing can can tear down the house of the Dragon is itself" Jon killing Daeneres making sense.
And they only let their family be their lovers and lovers can get closer than anyone to assassinate
Concept was good, but let’s not pretend the execution of that last season was anything but terrible.
That’s a good observation.
I think it's foreshadowing the dance of the dragons
It’s not about Jon and danaeries. It’s about the reason danaeries starts of the show in squalor as she does. Ie. They have a civil war and all the dragons and targarians die
Just wanted to say he didn’t choose his son over his wife, the Maestor made it pretty clear that the queen would die either way.
His choice was to sacrifice one, or lose both. He could have sacrificed his first son (which he has been wanting for years) to save his wife, or sacrificed his wife to save his son. Which he ultimately did. His choice was one or the other, or they both die. It’s more clear in the book.
No. The third choice was to kill/abort the fetus. Just like they can cut the woman to save the child they can cut the child to save the woman. This was a choice even in our own history. Any decent person would have asked for the alternative to killing their spouse. But the show deliberately left it ambiguous, because the king couldn't care less about his wife.
@@destyniiskywalker Why would you abort the fetus? Her purpose was to deliver a son. After that she was kind of disposable, no?
he implied there was a CHANCE both could die (we leave it to the Gods), or he could choose to have the wife die and let the child live. he clearly could have given his wife a chance to live, but it was more important to him to be sure his child lived instead... only to lose both anyway.
The point is his wife didn't consent to the operation that ultimately kill her. He didn't ask and forced it upon her. So it was not only him choosing the son over his wife, it was also him killing her.
That C-section scene was brutal, as a woman who had 2...I could never imagine my husband having that right to make that call. It was almost jarring and hit many ways . The hype is real with me though! I loved the episode and I am 100% reinvested in Westeros!
Must have been awful to live in medieval times, especially for a woman
Don’t husbands have to make “that call” sometimes or is it all a tv and movie trope?
Honestly if I lived in medieval times and was faced with this where I knew we both would die, I would want to be quickly taken out first. Then they could take the baby faster not having to worry about me thrashing around, and avoid me having to feel all that.
@@nointro I think only if the woman is unable to consent (i.e. heavily sedated, asleep/unconscious) for modern times.
@@Schaemia well yeah, I’d expect that it wouldn’t ever come up unless it was life and death and the momma is totally out.
This episode is what peak GoT made me feel. Really good, can’t wait for the rest!
I think the entire "Song of Fire and Ice" prophecy passed down from king to king is to tie it directly to the original series. As a consequence of the "Dance of Dragons", this knowledge will most likely be lost which would have a direct effect Danny, John et all.
Imagine the sight that Aegon the conquerer witnessed when flying across the north. It was clearly enough to make sure the secret was passed down through time.
It was not lost, how otherwise Rhaegar (Jon's father) would consider himself Prince Who Is Promised?
What an amazing episode and sets up the series perfectly. Great overview and new sub!
Great work on the break down… Subbed as well. To me the 1st episode was done in a fashion in which a lot was given in a short time. There was a lot of shakers and movers and main characters to get used to. I always watch each episode 2x to make sure I don’t miss anything. Will follow up each one with your break down. Great work.
My favourite part was in the tournament scene when the king says “the Baratheon tongue will not change the succession of the the throne, let them wail” and as we all know 🤣 it really did change hahah
Anyone else call the baby wasnt gonna survive after the doctor dude looked at it and cradled it the way he did ? I swear I heard the baby breathing weird and I’m like oh he dying
I thought he was gonna die because if he survived there would be no conflict
@@sujandahal4273 I’m gonna go stare at a wall now
I have the theory that his real child is alive. You don’t see the father look at the baby as it came out the first time, it was removed for a few minutes while the king is saying goodby to his dying queen. At that time the guy comes back with a stillborn baby heir. They never showed the child’s face. Was the real child switched at birth? We may find so in another season, perhaps this season. Just a thought.
@@txp7m8 great thought. I think thats what my heart felt. That’s a real conflict right there. When you look at the books this is when all the different targareon housss fight I think there’s 8 in all and the mad king ends up winning. I
Love your theory
@@txp7m8 He didn't come back with a stillborn. They said he died a few hours later.
I love your reviews, and yes even the puns! Thank you and your team for all the hard work!
Loved the first episode, can’t wait to see what’s in store for the season. They best keep it on a high note!
Honestly that episode was nice imo! Didn’t give too much away, not too much violence for shock value, and a tense sort of vibe in the air throughout..really gave me the classic GOT feel. Looking forward to more!
I agree it was a good episode. Really set the entire series up very very well. If the rest of the episodes are like this, it's going to be a great show.
Agreed. Kind of gave me S1 GOT vibes. Don't want to jinx it, but hopefully they keep it up.
@@stannisthemannis1294 the post episode extras the show runners talked a bit and to me it seems like they have very good ppl working there with some great creativity and direction. I think it’ll be better than expected but time will tell!
What about people being naked all the time for no good reason? That was the main reason I couldn't watch GOT because basically every episode someone had to be nude just because.
I love the way this world makes the constant small council meetings so captivating. Everyone has an agenda but no one is willing to show their cards.
When I heard baby Baelon gurgle after birth, likely drowning from the blood from the medieval C-section, knew he was good as dead. Heartbreaking, brutal af.
And the dude puking in the arena after seeing a face bashed in and the labor screams. Summed up some feelings well. Then having "the queen who never was" give out the 3rd degree burns of "these fools have never seen war".
Dramatic. Captivating. Hooked.
I think this was one the best first episode of a series I've ever seen. It set up the future of the series very well, didn't shove "foreshadowing" down our throats, and had some good "call backs" or call forwards from GOT that tied the two together to make them feel connected.
I'm really looking forward to what they do!! See you all next week :)
Edit: I learned what pilot actually means tonight! So I edited my statement to make it align with what I was originally trying to convey.
That's because it's not really a pilot. HBO ordered a full season without seeing a pilot
@@Red1Green2Blue3 Just for clarification when I used the term pilot I was thinking that most shows use their pilot for the first episode that airs so I just used that term.
So while you are correct that I used the word incorrectly I do believe that my point still stands.
@@razarios_life I mean your point doesn't really stand because pilots tend to be of a different quality than an average episode. So if you say it's a good "pilot" your point is that it's of a higher caliber than other pilots...but it's not a pilot, they got a full budget.
@@razarios_life your point stands and I agree !
mad mens pilot undefeated
Good analysis. I think a comparative discussion about the tourney could've been added. As it clearly shows the gradual financial degradation about to happen during the next century.
Started out with a bang....hate that I have to wait til next Sunday for next episode
Love your communication help me understand soooooo much more, thank you very much 👍🏾
I enjoyed the show. Thanks for all the great content, hope the family is healthy and well.
Ey thanks so much, really kind of you
I noticed what was fun is the council members seem more series and competent and you just don't go willy nilly replacing them with puppets like they did in GoT. They seemed to have some real power. Not saying which is better but I like that they changed that up. However, I find myself really missing a "Tyrion" like character. This show so far dosn't seem to have the light heartedness of GoT. And one final thing for me. I have watched so many reactions to GoT, I am amazed at how hard it is to get back into a series like this that you don't already know whats going to happen. LOL. I am going to have to watch it over a time or two because I am sure I missed a lot.
I agree. Most of them for the most part seem to be well balanced for now.
I miss Tyrion though they made him look ridiculous in the final two seasons of GOT. Especially, the last one, lol.
1st episode was fantastic. Loved it. Hopefully the rest of the season is just as good. From the footage shown so far it looks like it will be.
Great videos though man !!!!!
I'm set to get all vids from you Paul, and this is the first one in like 6 videos now that I've gotten. I missed 5 whole vids cuz yt didn't put em in my feed, ugh
This show is already top tier! 🐉🐉
I know the storyline already but it’s amazing having those actors execute the roles so perfectly in addition to the production. It’s A class. Better than Season 1 Episode 1 GOT.
Awesome, as usual.
Lightning fast, wisely informative and very funny.
Well made, well done. Please make more.
I gotta watch it 3 times to get it all. Its packed full of goodness.
Pleasantly surprised am I. I always thought the first 4 seasons of GOT was some of the best TV I'd ever seen. We all know what happened so to say I was a bit anxious going in would be understating it. HBO looks to be on the right track with this as the acting was excellent, special effects and cinematography were superb and it was all well executed. It's great to have something to watch on Sunday now that Westworld is over so cheers to a continued great season.
Westworld, a man of culture 👊🏽
I’ll never forget watching that first episode of GOT. Like something I’d never seen before. This didn’t have the same zing but I’m glad to be back in Westros
That's because GRRM wrote the first four seasons himself. But the show was still good through season 7 though you could tell D&D took over. Season 8 is where it all came apart. I suspect this show will not even make it past a few seasons. Especially, if GRRM walks away again to do another GOT project.
I loved this episode especially when they speak high Valyrian! I liked how the dragon keepers also speak Valyrian. Thanks for your breakdown!!
Otto directing his Daughter to visit the King after his Wife's & Son's death made me squirm as much as all the gore shown in the tournament and the round-up the night before. I'm not a GOT fan but I Respect the IP and enjoyed how the story developed in the 1st ep = will stick around for the next.
I hate Otto😑💀
This was an excellent video. I'm glad I stumbled upon this channel.
Agree about this bringing me back to good GOT times. NEARLY skipped it, but glad I gave it a chance. GRRM being on as a writer will definitely help. 🍻
First episode is a solid entry to the first spinoff and I genuinely do believe the goodwill from GoT will carry over, even with people who were upset at the quality of the last few seasons
The scene where the carriage travels down the streets of Kings Landing was actually filmed at the Main Square in Trujillo, Spain, which looks very much like that in real life (believe me, I've been there a couple fo times). The main difference is that the statue of the dragon is actually a statue of Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro, who was born in Trujillo centuries ago.
I love little details like theses thank you 🙏🏼
I'm a new Subscriber ,and SO GLAD I found your channel!! You did an excellent job, and I loved every single Dad joke!!!! 😊
Thought it was awesome! had the best time catching up to everything
re: the wound on Vis' back it is more symbolic than anything. They decide to cauterize the wound, but how do you cauterize the skin on a Targaryen? Later in the episode we see Vis dangling his hands in candle fire w/ no effect.
I also liked how Daemon's purge of the city calls back to recent purges of capital cities in Brazil, Russia, China, and even Canada when they were hosting the Olympics.
Another great episode, even with your endearing jokes that cause eyes to roll like slot machines. I, too was quite pleased by this opening, and look forward to the rest of it and your amusing summaries! Cheers, thanks a lot.
I really loved this episode, what makes it even great that we don’t get this type of shows everyday. I will definitely be watching every episode when it drops and your breakdowns for sure
Excellent work and look forward to watching each episode of HotD followed by your analysis and details on a weekly basis 👍👌😊
this episode was perfect, the acting, the visuals and the writing
Oh please stop posing crap, perfect 🤣
@@Maximustard you literally named yourself after a country in a crap movie lol
@@finger3306 yes, I’m a fan of satire, how many years did you do in the can?
@@Maximustard no no friend you're mistaking me for cousin Phil, i think he did somewhere around 20 fuckin years
@@Maximustard I mean its my opinion, and its not that far fetched
I definitely thought it was grayscale as well, especially with the way the maester was acting uncertain. So hyped to have GOT content again!!
So I was confused. Because I could have sworn The king says that it was from a cut he received from the iron throne, no? Is it simply something that has been infected? And of course we see him do it again albeit much less severe on his finger. I believe it’s just a wound from a rusty sword from the throne.
It was an infected cut from the throne. The king said so himself.
I loved it!! Love your interpretation as well.
Loved it!! Was so excited this show is starting! Makes Sunday night the night to look forward to for the week!
I don’t why but am hoping for a sequel that’ll be 200 years or so after the original series
Great recap, Paul. I agree the pilot was a fantastic! It felt so good going back to Westeros. I had a few goosebumps as the episode was ending. I don’t know how much better it could’ve been.I had to admit from some of the stills I saw before tonight‘s episode, I thought this was going to be less than great. But they really knocked this out of the park. I can’t wait to see what happens.
By the way, I’m glad to see they’re having the inside the episodes again after the credits roll on the episode. To hear the show runner and Director discussing the episode was great. It was kind of disappointing that D&Ddid not do any inside the episodes for the last few episodes of season eight. But that’s over and done with and I’m so happy we’re back in Westeros and I’m looking forward to a fantastic season.
Thanks for the info
Awesome show ! Finally!!! Just got done watching 1 episode!!! Can’t wait for the next one!!!
Daaaaaamn that was good episode! You couldn't pay me to sit on that throne...
This premiere confirms the Mad King "Burn Them All" was truly refering to The White Walkers and that he went mad because the Winter was approaching and they had no way to stop it.
He went mad bacause he was locked in for months lol🤣
That makes so much sense
Doesn’t confirm it, but certainly gives that theory more credibility
He went mad because of Bran
@@joasbenjamin7926 makes sense👏
brian must have travelled to the past to torture him so he could become the king
Well done. I’m already hooked
Always love your breakdowns. I laugh out loud every time 🤣
W just watched it and I’m already in love
The first episode was amazing loved every bit of it. Can next Sunday come any faster!? Looking forward to episode 2!
Thanks for the breakdown. Loved Episode 1.
KevOnStage sent me! Great content. 👍🏾
I loved it, they set up the show well without overwhelming us.
Amazing first episode. Thanks for the swift breakdown Paul!!
Amazingly shite
Was waiting for your explained video
Good video thanks
Not sure if anyone mentioned this but I think the dagger was also the one that was used in the assasination attempt on Bran
Also the dagger used to kill Little Finger
This show is going to be so brilliant ❤️ I can't wait for the next episode!
I've seen people getting upset about the hinting of potential 'spoilers' that happen in the coming episodes of HoTD. I haven't read the books but I've watched GoT so many times now that I know most of the story from it being mentioned previously throughout the show. Huge spoilers. Massive spoilers. It was talked about so many times throughout GoT. There's even an episode called 'The Dance of Dragons . If you don't want to know what eventually happens to Rhaenyra Targaryen, steer clear of a certain episode of GoT in season 3.
Viserys carving the model city made me think of House of Cards and how Frank would play with his toy soldiers.
Ayo bro it’s okay to sleep you got this up mad quick
Really loved returning to the world I became so captivated by with the original series. The acting in this episode was excellent and HBO definitely didn't hold back on the production values. Really excited to see where they go with this being they have a bit more freedom than the original series did. Keep Weiss and Benioff away and I'll be back for more every Sunday from now until forever.
I remember reading in the GoT books about why the throne cuts people. After a quick Google search I found this -
The people of Westeros believed that when the throne cut a king or queen it was a sign that the seat of power was rejecting the monarch, deeming them unfit to rule.
Your videos are very informative, and entertaining. 😁
This is my favorite (movie & TV) content-analysis channel. ❤️
thank you
How in the actual Fk do you get these videos out so quickly? It's amazing. Great work!
Fun fact: Aegon Targaryan was also nicknamed Egg and he was the squire for the hedge knight. Check out the comic hedge knight to learn more about his story.
That’s Aegon V, Maester Aemon’s younger brother. Not Aegon the Conqueror.
Jeeez, HBO really has great writers... so much packed in one EP
I loved this episode! I went into it not expecting a lot and it exceeded my expectations! Excited for more!
I really enjoyed this premiere!
I'm my lungs out when Viserys mentioned the dream and gave the Valyrian Steel Dagger. Couldn't have been a better way to start this
Also it was said that if you cut yourself on the Iron Throne, then you was unfit to be king.
Excellent!
cool summary. agree with you that it's placed us right back in there very quickly. i'm into it.
Yeah
How are you doing loadie
