/* ---- VIDEO INFORMATION ---- */
Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show I'm your host Paul and it's time to lock up your daughters because Game Of Thrones House Of The Dragon is back. I thought this was another brilliant entry and throughout this video we're gonna be going through the lore, easter eggs, characters and what you need to know about the events of the show.
Like last week there'll be no future spoilers about any deaths, marriages or twists but we might talk about some things that could be coming down the line. So if you're someone who likes to go in as blind as possible then this isn't the video for you. If it is though then please hit the thumbs and make sure you subscribe for breakdowns on the series every week. With that out the way, thank you for clicking this, now let's get into House Of The Dragon.
Ok so uptop quick disclaimer for the breakdown. As many of you know we get early access to this show and it has been said that episode 2 is where they'll debut the titles for the show. We didn't actually get a look at them on the early copy we were shown so we won't be breaking it down in this video. However if it does come with one we'll be covering it on our clips channel which will be linked as the pinned comment on this video.
Anyway we start off with a focus on several of Craghas Crabfeeders victims. He's given crabs to thousands of people like Ryan Arey's mom and come the end of the entry he's set up as one of the main antagonists. In the book he's described as a merciless monster who is a nightmare in the Stepstones. This is an area that lies inbetween several important territories as shown on this map and Crabfeeder disrupts several of the trade routes for the realm by doing this.
Come the end of the entry we watch Lord Corlys go to Daemon for help and together the pair very much set out to take him down.
From the off we instantly see how he earned the name Crabfeeder and the source material talks about him staking hundreds of captured pirates on the wetsands in order to meet a brutal end. The book describes how he not only fed them to the crabs which we see here but it also talks about how they slowly drowned as the tide rolled in. It's a brutal way to open the episode and it instantly sets up why he's so dangerous.
Last week Corlys brought him up at the small council but this fell on deaf ears. Viscerys actually viewed Crabfeeder as doing good because it disrupted the pirate activity in the Stepstones and this is why the Lord turns to his brother instead. - Развлечения

your channel name is "Heavy Spoiler" and you are saying you would try to not give spoilers about deaths. hahaha isn't that a contrary to the channel name?
Love the side chicks joke! And the diss 15:02
The cut on Vis hand was from when he cut it on the throne in the first episode.
@Snatch Malone well...first of all it's not GoT it's House Of the Dragon based off the book Fire & Blood....so there's that.
Also common sense dictates that every episode can't be sex and violence. I'm willing to bet if it was you'd complain about there's too much violence and there needs to be...and I quote".. There's no repeatable dialogue, no memorable scenes...".
Not sure what is and I quote again,"this is a woke mess" about House of the Dragon, unless you are referring to the African American characters in the show. If so than you are vile jaos (go look it up), and your opinion means nothing. I bet if that was the case you would have no problem if Mushroom was not white but a minority (go look that up too). However if you didn't mean that than I don't understand what's so woke about a fictional tale involving dragons. Are you concerned there will be homosexuality in the show?...if so than you must not have read the book (my money is on that one).
I digress though. The show has to fill the audience in and explain background information for characters and their motivations before the results of those motivations are shown on the screen. I thought it was amazing how they could sum up pages of book details and plots foreshadowing in a couple of mins of dialogue. Either way not every episode can be Fire & Blood. The story teller has to first explain why there will be Fire and why there will be Blood
All the machinations are falling into place nicely, Rhaenyra being isolated from the person she loves, Corlys betrayal by viserys, Otto plotting. I'm fully invested.

Otto clearly does not like Rayneara because he can't control her. When she showed up on her dragon and got everything done and flew off he looked like oh, she will be a problem.
He should be thankful. Did he really expect to get out of Dragonstone alive?
Otto dying would have been great 🥲
And when they were choosing a knight for the kingsguard he was trying to get her to make the decision he wanted, and she made the decision she saw was best.
He's the hand. And she's the princess.
Why would he even think he could control her?
It's spelled Rhaenyra but that's just me having OCD
I love the idea of the Irone Throne rotting Viserys from the inside out while it slowly cuts away at him from the physical and mental duties of being the king.
Great. This is all the show needs to be . Nothing quirky or zany, just cold-blooded court drama with a touch of humanity.
And Dragons...
You clearly don’t know where this show is heading then….this is perfect for the BEGINNING of the story. But the show as a whole will end up being pretty zany. Just a heads up. Will still be awesome though
@@phillyphilly_lii6441 is the story better than the got story
@@KingCanute777 It's very different. One is a fictional history that takes place across generations, over the course of only half a book. The other is a group of 5 novels told from a variety of character perspectives.
That being said, it's a good story and should make for a good show.
@@KingCanute777 its all the same rehash drama incest and shit. Sure dragons look cool but most makes little sense also characters and designs on this show look goofy compared to GoT tbh
I liked the way Deamon didn't bite at the "perhaps you remember when I knocked you off your horse" took it like a champ .
Well yea he's already been thinking about murdering him.
Viserys doesn’t have grayscale. The finger wound is dead skin. The throne is killing him as further evidenced by his back wound referenced in episode one. In the book this happened later, but here it is because the show runners want us to see the affect the throne is having on a “good” king.
The king had diabetes. The wound is an ulcer and the finger is gangrene.. which will be amputated later.
Also it could be tetanus from the old rusty metal throne
*weak king who is easily manipulated
Unless the idea of the throne having a mind of its own is an actual thing from the books, I'm going to assume you're full of bs and it's actually someones attempt at assassination or he is just diseased
It is believed that the throne cuts unworthy kings, not bad kings. It has only killed one king and it is "rumored" that he was assasinated
I love Caraxes high pitched vocals instead of being the typical deep vocals other dragons have. It makes Caraxes seem so much more alien than other dragons on top of the visual differences.
I am all for production choices that help differentiate the Dragons and those vocals are a great example. Now when we hear that high pitch we'll know that Caraxes is just around the corner!
Also, the production design for The Blood Wyrm is just awesome. Caraxes is my favorite dragon we've so far seen on screen, including those from GoT.
I just hope they continue to make similar creative choices. For example, I hope they make Sunfyre as shiny and as golden as he is described in Fire and Blood. He doesn't need to be like Smaug after having gold dumped on him but it would be sad and a missed opportunity if they just make him a a bland, earthy yellow.
I also can't wait to see Moondancer, who is described as a sort of seafoam green.
More creative dragon designs please!
Reminds me of the Ahamkara from Destiny
Reminded me of killer whales
in one of the HBO extra clips, design team said that all dragons in series have "unique personalities and qualities" perceivable by audience..more or less by requirement of Papa George RR. So that will be FANTASTIC as they come into play!!!!!
I love Caraxes so much!!!
Life sucks when your best friend turning in to your step-mother
And your QUEEN 👸
he cut that finger on the iron throne in the last episode. It started to rot in the second episode. It is not greyscale, it is simply the cuts he gets while sitting on the throne getting infected and rotting.
Maybe tetanus or diabetes
First his back from ‘sitting the throne’ and the knick on his finger is going gangrene! The throne doesn’t like him.
Yeah, it looks nothing like greyscale, too. Just necrotic flesh, no scaling of any sort. Lots of people need their eyes checked, I think.
It seems viserys having a diabetes.
Maybe the throne has been coated with some sort of Poison
Ser otto hightower is littlefinger's great grandfather middlefinger.
Hell yeah. Lol
Underrated
Hilarious
Awesome video boss. The way these powerful men had no qualms about pimping out their daughters just to get a little closer to ultimate power is just crazy.
Ragnar said it best, "power attracts the worse and corrupts the best, and only given to those willing to lower themselves to pick it up." Never fails
Her sores around her fingers are from her anxiety and her picketing at her cuticles. They showed it in episode one.
This really shows Otto as a manipulator. I don't think he is angry with Rhaenyra for showing him up. It's worse than that. He can't control her as he can Viserys, so he will become her enemy as he is Daemon's but why the king's heir is still pouring wine is beyond me. How can she be respected as a future ruler by the men she serves? And the Hand interrupting both her and the king was a mayor red flag.
I think that will be revealed at Ottos advice. It wouldn’t actually surprise me if Viserys’ decline of health is because of Alicent which would explain her anxiety
She's pouring wine because her father wants her to learn the art of ruling. He basically gives her opportunity to listen at all Small Council meetings and gain knowledge about politics, schemes and decisions that are to be made. It was a common practice back then. Cupbearer is very important position, because drinks can be poisoned. And making her a cupbearer makes all of the counselors and King safe.
In Westerosi society, the sons and daughters are usually sent off to serve a lord or lady or knight. For example, as a squire, paige , or a cupbearer or a lady-in-waiting. For example, Tywin Lannister served as a cupbearer and paige and Alicent Hightower, in the books, was Jahaerys's caretaker. In this case, rather than sending her elsewhere, he's keep Rhaenyra close by having her serve as the small council's cupbearer. Moreover, this gives her the opportunity to listen in on important matters and learn how to rule.
Cup bearing is a very noble and important role in exposing her to the ins and outs of ruling. Her pouring wine for the king IS showing her respect.
The opening is the Targaryen family tree. Sync the time stamps with the episode:
0:04 - Doom of Valyria and Aegon's crown
0:13 - Rhaenys and Visenya
0:20 - Aenys
0:27 - Jaehaery and Alysane
0:35 - Baelon and Alyssa
0:43 - Daemon
0:50 - Viserys and Aemma (Arryn sigil)
1:00 - Dead Baelon
1:10 - Rhaenyra
If you look closely, you can actually see the gears drown in blood in the order that they died (Alysanne’s is submerged before Jaehaerys’, Alyssa’s is before Baelon’s, and obviously Aemma’s is before Viserys’).
Using the GOT theme is a smart move because it would be very difficult to beat it, so any other theme Ramin created, people would compare it to the old one. I understand why some people wanted a new theme, but no one dislikes GOT's opening song.
I had no idea if I was right, but I thought as much after watching the intro. "Bloodlines" was my first thought.
Thanks for these time stamps.
Thanks
Of course no one dislikes the GOT theme song, but they have Ramin for this series too. This is a new show depicting stories from the past. It should have its own theme song. Ramin is amazing and all his music is phenomenal! He easily could have created a new theme and everyone would love it equally.
Well done

“Captivating” is a great description of Mr Crabs. I’d like to see an ep devoted to him. I also have a suspicion that the throne has some sort of poison applied to it.
Lady Misery’s accent is brutal imo. Hope they noticed it early and had her change it in later episodes. I couldn’t un-hear how bad her accent was. Sounds similar to Tyrions jump off, Shay. Her acting along w/ her accent were a couple of the very few things that were objectively bad in early Thrones.
IT IS HORRIBLE 🤣🤣🤣
Glad I’m not the only one who thinks this lol.
On the subject of fingers, as a cuticle picker myself, it's a nervous habit. When anxious, stressed or afraid, that's when it is worse. You see her picking at high anxiety moments. And the king's rot looks like gangrene to me, which would explain the concern over losing the finger.
Alicent persuaded Rhaenyra to speak to her dad an say its ok to take a new wife, Otto has definitely been having debriefs behind the scenes with his daughter each time she's been to see the King. Getting Jon Snow vibes from Cristan Cole. 100% hooked after 2 eps, this series is how showrunners and creators should work together to bring something to the screen. Also great mum diss on scene crush

@@ksbfun I am so excited to see you watch the rest of this show
I think Viserys' finger is just infected and is getting necrosis (the kind where the infection is so severe, the flesh basically rots away and you have to cut it off to prevent it from spreading). I think it's from that cut he got in ep 1 on the throne, and I feel like similar to how Drogo got taken down by a small cut, he too is going to go down from complications of this little cut.
I am so excited about next ep though!
In the show, there’s a “blink and you’ll miss it” line about how Myceria (I can’t spell but Daemon’s mistress) “ensured” she wouldn’t have to bear childbirth a long time ago, so for the show at least, she will not be bearing an heir
Yeah i also noticed it
CAN'T BLAME HER, DID YOU NOT SEE WHAT HAPPENED TO THE QUEEN?!?!!?!?. (AND SHE HAD THE BEST HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE AVAILABLE 😳)
Wasn't blink and you miss it, it was a key plot point. Daemon has to lie to appear worthy of the throne

It’s not grayscale it’s cuts from the Iron Throne that won’t heal. He says in the first episode that the cut on his back is just a cut from the throne and it’s not healing. And we watch him cut that same finger that won’t heal in the first episode.
Metaphor for the Iron Throne rejecting him? Maybe. But it’s just cuts from the throne that aren’t healing and have probably gone septic
george wrote it so that the targaryens and the people around them develop this superstition that the iron throne rejects an unworthy ruler.

@BLeeB Correct! These content creators move to fast trying to beat others to the punch that they sometimes miss the obvious. The look on her face alone during D & Otto's standoff revealed that she wasn't pregnant or been proposed to. That was D simply stirring the pot wit BS & trying to get big brothers attention.
Yep a lot of the reviews I watched they all missed that. She also clearly said she made sure she was not even able to have children.

@@TheLshyne That's right.
The creator clearly said that she isn't pregnant in the tv series but was pregnant in the book and therefore the concern of the child being someone else's was highlighted in the book not the tv show.

It’s not grayscale. The maesters would be able to identify that immediately. It’s most likely some type of tetanus.
They do have recessive genes and I do believe the Targaryen were poisoned for generations by the Masters... The Maesters
Possible but maesters haven’t always been known to 100% accurate there’s plenty of examples in ASOIF, plus he could have motives if his own.

I love that the show continues to follow Martin’s footprint theme: Schemes.
Corlys and Daemon plotting to retake control of the Stepstones by having Daemon appear as a savior to regain his brother’s trust while helping Corlys, and have Corly also look as a hero
This world is truly on fire, and will be even more so when the dragons start fighting, thought maybe we’d see the first clash this episode but no such luck
I thought Mysaria said in the episode that she couldn't have babies. Daemon was bluffing the whole thing.
Daemon was bluffing/BSing, but Mysaria doesn’t want children; I don’t remember saying she is unable
Matt Smith is doing fine I guess, but from the script it really does seem like Daemon is meant to be really into her, which I don’t get any of in his delivery- CHEW THE SCENERY ALREADY!!
She said something like "I ensured long ago child birth would not befall me" or something similar
@@scottjamieson

Wow you made this quick! Good work
i loved the fact they kept the original title music! it has to be a must for every spin off. Iconic
You're the fastest to breakdown this episode!
I love how classic Thrones fans kept saying Drogon was as big as the Black Dread himself, yet Daemon’s dragon looks just as big if not bigger than Drogon
I am guilty of this lol. Drogon is not even close in terms of size compared to Keraxes. Facts.
i think drogon might be bigger mass wise and ceraxes is just longer looking, if that makes sense? dragons don’t do well, or grow well, in captivity and drogon was free to grow big vs ceraxes being stuck in the dragon pit most of its life. i could be wrong lol
edit: i dont think drogon was as big as the black dread tho, had he lived longer he probably would’ve gotten to that size
Great to watch your breakdowns and gain new insight and also make sure that I didn't miss anything.
I liked the sound that Daemon's dragon(bloodworm) made before he showed himself
Really loving the story telling of this show, and the visuals are the cherry on top.

Loved your review & appreciate the humor, a lot.
Great review! It’s so refreshing to have such a well written and directed show!
A black Corlys Velaryon and green wildfolk may be the perfect opportunity to introduce Sothoryos to TV GoT.
I think Martin has opened up his world because of his friendships with Black sci fi/fantasy authors N.K. Jemisin and Nnedi Okorafor. He is producing a show for Okorafor based on her novela Benti.
I hope they do write origin story for Corlys as a descendent of Old Valyria and Sea Islanders. Sea Islanders are described as excellent sailors. It would be cool if he had some Sea Islander sailors in his fleet.
Now that Corlys has been introduced we now guess whether dragon seed Nettles is brown!

Definitely a good episode and the opening was great although I see some people disappointed about using the same song but it’s iconic with the series now. Daemon and Rhaenyra’s face off was good especially the dragons facing off giving us a look at how Targaryans hadn’t used dragons in battle between themselves before and obviously a prelude to the actual Dance of Dragons later on in the series
The first episode was like my ex screaming "Baby I changed" and this second episode was me rushing back in head first. Well done HBO. Now don't abuse me again please.
HOLY SH*T ... so true.
my thoughts exactly, I want to just fall in love with the world again, but I can't take another beating like Season 8
This show will never go full wife beating season 8. The source material is already written. No insanely stupid major plot points. There could be some emotional abuse. But we signed up for that.
@@davidstansbury9309 I really enjoyed Fire & Blood, for what it was. A slog at times, but interesting. I really hope they stick this landing, but you are correct. A beginning, middle and end....emphasis on END...is what GoT sorely lacked. All that build up to take us on a journey, and in the end, it had no direction.

The character design for Craghas Drahar, the Crabfeeder is awesome. Good blend of creepiness and intimidation. 🦀
It just makes me that much more sad that GoT didn't try to make a more book faithful Euron Greyjoy. The blue lips would've been too much, as they're something that reads great on the page but would probably look silly on screen. But the Crow's Eye could've been so much more and seeing the Crabfeeder just makes that more apparent.
Well I never pictured Euron's lips as bright blue. I thought they were more greyish with a blue hue and I always pictured them as bluer towards the inside.
@@cosmicriptid I agree, but I still think they would've just been distracting on screen. I always pictured them as a sort of blue-purple, like a bruise; which if I recall is how Shade of the Evening lips are described. It's been a few years since my last read through.
Loved the episode, great start
@Heavy Spoiler, There's a scene at around about 13th minute where you see Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower joining their hands, and while doing so, you get to see one wearing a red ring representing House Targaryen, and green ring representing House Hightower, overshadowing how they would eventually fall apart and fight each other for the representation of throne. Maybe I'm stretching the theory but I feel that's what they are setting the story to be.."Greens and Blacks"
Great episode overview. Love your Robert Baratheon impression 😀

My only issue with this show is that they didn’t start w Aegon. It’s so good that I wish they had just done the entire book.
I know they may end up doing this but it woulda been kinda cool to see in order.
theres not much drama in that though his story is much more spectacle
What are they going to do ?
Aegon says hes going to conquer. Each kingdom says no. Few Dragon Roars or burns later and they concede. Same x5.
They might do another show later on with other parts of Westerosi history or Targaryen rule. I would love to see Aegon and his sisters, Balerion and Meraxes, Quicksilver against Balerion, Queen Rhaena, the whole story of Jaeherys and Alysanne. They could even do some fun stuff with the wall and Winterfell when she visits. But that is a lot to put in one show. They thought this was the most exciting part so they are starting with this. Westeros has enough stories to keep telling for decades, and so much of the rest of the planet is barely touched. I'd rather they take it slow and do it well though. This got sidetracked.
GOT took place over four or five years, it sped up a lot in the second half, and look how long that was, this show spans 30 years or so (albiet with time jumps) I think that is enough, at least for now.
thank you for the breakdown of the eps I love the bridge scene the most
Foreshadowing- Aunt Rhaenys says in the first episode that "none of these knights have combat experience when referring" to the knights fighting at the tournament. In this episode, Rhaenyrs (similar names) references the knights' combat experience when choosing a new Kings Guard as her aunt watched quietly from the balcony. Rhaenyrs might not accept reality judging from their conversation in the episode but Rhaenyrs' story has overwhelming parallels with her aunt throughout the episode and throughout the series. Rhaenyre is arrogant about this and maintains the belief that she is better than her aunt. As the dominos fall around her refusing to reconsider the advice she receives from her aunt.
Thanks for another awesome breakdown
His finger is the wound from when he gets pricked after sending daemon away
It’s the Iron Throne exposing his weakness for his obsession over keepin the peace.
I’m beginning to think the actual Dance of The Dragons might not even begin until the very end of the season.
Or next season. Looks like they might end this season with the death of Leana (not sure if I spelled it correctly) the daughter of Corlys. Or it might end with the marriage between Rhaenyra and Daemon.
Just watched the episode and loved it ... excellent take on this

You must be watching this episode ahead of everyone else, there’s no way that you’re gonna be able to watch it do a video, edit it and uploaded in less than 15 minutes
He literally mentions in the video having an early copy of the episode.
Press always gets the episode 2 -4 days before hand

The Crab Feeder looks like has a case of greyscale
The crab feeder looks like he has a case of just hating humanity “Joker” style…. Jajajaja 😝😝😝😝. But don’t worry, Daemond and Caraxes are going to kick his @ss!!
Great breakdown
I love them taking their time, keep doing that please lol
I am loving this series. I read the books so I have a pre-conceived perspective that this episodes have shattered with the dramatic plots and backstory additions. I cannot wait for episode 3.
I need that copy of Top Gun, such a great video as always big supporter
Thank you man, best of luck with it
With this entry in particular, it’s curious how the house phrase of “Fire & Blood” draws parallel with the burning of bridges over heir succession and bloodlines, highlighting how the “Dance of Dragons” was taking place far before the actual dragons took flight…
Getting ready to watch now then I'll catch this right after.
I hit the like button before I watch the review cuz I know it will be 🔥
I love that in this series that almost no matter what decision a character has to make whether be good or bad it’s going to have some kind of negative fall out!
An accurate reflection of life at times.
I hope We get to see a Young Lady Laena, Ride VHAEGAR.... that would be epic
I’ve read the book…. Nice guess!! Vhagar’s actual rider will be more significant and important. But still…. great guess!! 👍👍👍😎😎😎😎
@@peluchetravieso2064 she/he is right though, laena will ride vhagar
@@kai-xi2zh Actually it will be prince Daeron the one-eyed.
