In this video we are taking a detailed look into Aemond Targaryen and why he is so important regarding what is to come. Aemond Targaryen is probably my favourite character in the House Of The Dragon storyline. An almost perfect opposite of Daemon he's one of the most cunning people in all of Westeros. Ok so Aemond Targaryen is probably my favourite character in the House Of The Dragon storyline. An almost perfect opposite to Daemon he's one of the most cunning people in all of Westeros and I thought I'd make a video discussing why he's so important. Throughout this video we're gonna be going over his backstory, what lies ahead with him and why we love him so much.

Now as we touched upon earlier, Aemond is the perfect opposite to Daemon on a number of levels. Not only do their names sound similar but their brothers also end up becoming the King. In the book Alicent puts together a plan to oust Rhaenyra after the death of Viserys and it looks like the show is following the same route.
This sets up the dynamic so that both Aemond and Daemon are very much opposites to one another and throughout the storyline we see as they become bitter rivals.
Both are skilled swordsmen, brilliant strategists and Aemond stole Daemons ex wifes dragon just to add some salt in the wound. This creates a heated rivalry between the two that we'll discuss the outcome of later in the video.
This was teased at during the banquet and it extends far beyond just being involved in food fights.
As we've seen in the series Aemond was often overlooked when he was younger and the book details how when he was born he was half the size of his brother Aegon. Constantly pushed around by him this created a fire within that slowly drove him to become more and more ambitious. Whereas Aegon had everything handed to him on a plate Aemond had to fight for everything in his life and this carved out an incredibly fierce character who would accomplish several things in his childhood.

The subtitle on the lower part of the video was new, I tried turning it off thought it is the "CC" subtitle.
Daemon made such a colossal mistake by not trying to secure Vhagar as soon as Laena died. Should've had his dragonless daughter tried to bond way before Aemond and everyone else had a chance to. It was like letting the MVP of the league leave your football team in free agency without even making an offer lol. Incredibly boneheaded move on his part.
Daemon. But I like this Aemond guy as well. The only thing that threw me off is this Aemond looks much older than his older brother Aegon in my opinion anyway. Originally it was young Rhaenyra, that girl had some spunk.
Lady rhea Royce is my favorite character so far. The rest can be eaten by dragons for all I care.
Can we talk about Aemond's CASTING?? The actor playing him radiates total psychopath, even when he's not saying a single thing or just standing around in the background. I'm terrified and I'm obsessed.
He's a beast in The last Kingdom too. Really knows how to embody his role
still he is more likeable than Daemon or Rhaenyra's Bastards
If you've seen The Last Kingdom, he portrays a royal Christian bastard with the same gentleness that Jon Snow had in the first season of GoT. And to play this character is a complete 180. And he rocks it.

Thanks to that he became stronger and more competent without it he wouldnt have developed as much but with different childhood could have been kinder and more loving but such a world doesnt reward such qualities

I cannot stress enough how his casting could’ve been a DISASTER. Firstly, his character is extremely well written. Aemond is a super dynamic character which makes him difficult to portray. As an actor, your eyes are your most important tool. Any actor for this character is at a 50% disadvantage from the start. Ewan not only has the perfect villainous face, but he emotes through just one eye fabulously. Just watch how soft his face is when he looks at his mother vs when he looks at Lucerys. In the latest episode, you can see the emotion in his face when he learns of his fathers death. Amazing casting. Can’t imagine how many months it took!
Watch David Tennant in “Good Omens” if you want to see a charismatic character without a view of his eyes.

Aemond and Daemon are so similar. The look, the attitude, both savage and badass. Although Aemond is more reckless probably because he’s younger. They surely make this whole show turn upside down, you can really feel their tension and chemistry on screen.
Daemon has matured a lot since his marriage with rhaenyra he even forgave his brother and love between them can be seen. Aemond on the other hand is far more cruel and there is no such bonding between him and aegon like daemon and viserys.
Like peaky blinders say big fucks small so they brought a crueler character than daemon to the series

@@Harshitslaysss What are you talking about? Aemond always has Argon's back but the same could not be said about Viserys and Daemon. For example, Daemon celebrated the tragic death of Viserys' tragic wife and has since tormented him including luring Viserys' daughter to immoral places so as to stain her reputation by it. And he later abandoned him, leaving Westeros for Pentos. That show in the throne room was only because he needed Viserys to support his wife in those petition hearings. Also, what makes Aemond far more cruel compared to Daemon whose trademark so far has been killing innocent people without even allowing them to defend themselves in a fight?
Getting Vhagar really changed him. He went from feeling powerless to realize he could conquer the greatest Dragon alive

The story of the rise and fall of the Buendia family in the course of 100 years.
The men are all called Aureliano or Arcadio, they all have similar quirks and it shows how history "repeats itself" over and over among all of them.

He's so cutting in his dialogue. I loved the look in his face when he admired Daemon's decapitation of Vaemond.
🗣in episode 8 I was stunned by his acting ! even though he didn't have many lines you couldn't but feel his presence... his gaze, the permanent smirk, the "hmm". Just finished episode 9 and my eyes were constantly looking for him. apart from the fact that he is gorgeous, it is so fascinating how generous the actor is with his expressions allowing us to read into Aemond's thoughts and emotions at times. Episode 10 is going to be so important for the story and I cannot wait for this week to pass to see how Ewan will choose to execute that part of the story♡ plus I'm curious to see adult Aemond riding Vhagar🐉

@@Johnny_Thunder exactly! He created this mystery and sympathy around the character that makes you want more! Truly a very capable and generous actor! He didn't choose the easy way to portray Aemond as an angry person full of rage that wants to destroy things. He gave us a young man who seeks validation from his family but at the same time someone with will power ready to do what needs to be done. He gave us mystery and complexity and a sensitive side of a character that was just portrayed as "psychotic". I look forward to the next stage which is the adult Aemond owning up to his actions and building from there on

Like everyone is saying already: there is a mirror-like quality to Aemond and Daemon’s rivalry. In many ways it must be like Daemon is looking at his own past reflection: a second son to a king, hot blooded and eager to prove himself better than everyone else at any cost. And maybe that isn’t a reflection Daemon liked looking at after he grew up, became a father and perhaps gained some wisdom to temper his emotions. I like to think that in being so set on killing Aemond, Daemon is trying to kill his past, and in some small way, make up for the mistakes or perceived failures of protecting his family.

Kudos on the casting department. They found the perfect person to play Aemond. He's basically Daemon Jr. If I didn't know better, I would say that he was Daemon's son. They even kind of have the same walk. Plus the eye patch makes him look even more badass. Another character to love to hate.😄 I can't wait to see the two of them clash on screen!
well in the books it's heavily implied aemon idolizes daemon and respects/fears him hence why he often copies/acts like daemond alot.

When he stood up at the dinner before his toast, his movement was smooth but reminded me of the way a dragon moves.
It seems they've changed the dynamic between them a little bit in the series HOTD because it almost appears like Aemond and Daemon have some respect for each other so far despite not really directly interacting. No doubt that'll change.
Like the scene where Daemon begeads Lord Vaemond, we see Aemonds face and its one of awe. Or when Aemond goads his nephews by calling them strong in his toast, you can see Daemond finds it mildly amusing. If not for the war the two would get along like a house on fire.
Aemond is important because he's going to trigger the war and escalate it even further as time passes.
The fight between Aemond and Daemon will be great to see. The way the fight ends and dialogue beforehand are a masterpiece

Aemond and Daemon are essentially versions 2.0 and 1.0 of the same person. They are both terrifying. But Aemond's chin is razor sharp, which makes him scarier. Oh, and the eyepatch is also terrifying.

It excites me that lots of ppl who read the book chose Prince Aemond as their favorite. Out of all HOTD characters I deeply engaged to him & Rhaenyra.. they have this epic yet tragic fate, like I want to introduce them as “that’s how dragon warriors are made”

I don’t know if it was just me but the new Aegon looked so drastically different David Tennant’s son. I get they want Aegon to look awful as he can’t stop drinking but you really wouldn’t know he was Aegon if they didn’t mention him by name.

One of the things I love and hate about Martin's writing is how he can create great characters, but then kills them off just the same. Definitely more realistic, but frustrating at the same time.

I wish I could watch this but I dont want to spoil it lol. But Aemond is like the younger more carefree version of Daemon from what I can tell. The entire time at that dinner he was just waiting for some action. When nobody would bite he decided to take action on his own, same as he did when getting his dragon.
Even in the first scene in the courtyard, he only had one eye but he saw more than anyone else there. Quickly and easily seeing his nephews lurking in the background. Oh I like Aemond, he's a demon in plain sight and he's not trying to hide it 😈

I mean Aemond did have a good reason to cause trouble. Luke was snickering at the pig in front of him because they gifted him the pink dread or something as his dragon. It wasn’t just because he wanted some family drama.

This show is promising to be my favorite so far in 2022. The acting is incredible, the delivery is almost perfect, camera work is great, scenes (landscapes & buildings..etc) is epic, Storyline so far amazing. I mean I could say more but I’m high rn nah mean?
Thanks as always for pointing out the subtleties. He’s interesting but frankly, the eye patch has a lot to do with ‘the look’. From what commentary is told in several channels, despite the presence of Martin, several things have changed from the book. Isn’t anything possible? I love the quip Kinslayer.

Since Aemond's was a kid I rooted for him, I hated the way they pick on him. I had a feeling he would become a badass and when he did become a badass, I was like hell yeah that my boy. He is without a doubt my favorite HOTD/G.O.T character of all time. He lived his life like a legend and died a legendary death.

I know a lot of people dislike Aemond (and the Greens as a whole) but he's a freaking badass.
When it shifts to him being an adult, he's intimidating as f***. One of my favorite characters in the show already, definitely one of my favorites in the book. The Greens in general are cool and interesting.
They do bad things? Well . . . so do the Blacks. That's part of the fun in this universe.

Do you know that within the event of the dance of the dragons, Aemond is the one who sits on the throne the longest? (Aegon & Rhaenyra 6 months each, Aemond 1 year)
He may be bold & unforgiving yet when he’s a prince reagent no one dare to challenge his reign. No one dare to touch King’s Landing (Rhaenyra only able to take over when Aemond’s gone)
Yes he’s cruel to his enemy yet he protects his loved ones and his loyal ppl. Not even a bad omen.. somehow, it suits him to rule and the iron throne accepts him

I stand corrected - Daemon was better than Aemond - hands down. The major reason Aemond was this much a problem was Vhagar.
U will have to wait 4 seasons for that battle to happen.
@@altair769 Fighting and skill wise, Daemon was still more superior than Aemond due to age and overall experience. Daemon was notably a beast during this era. Aemond however was definitely on his way to becoming very much like Daemon, but he lacked some skill and the like that comes with experience. Both of them are very dope, but 1v1 without dragons, it's most likely Daemon would win as long as he doesn't get cocky (As seen with Cole).
@@isayahsnow2767 True. My point - Aemond accomplished quite a lot for someone as inexperienced as he was in comparison to Daemon. Yes - this is all mainly thanks to Vhagar of course. If both of them had Dragons of the same size, Daemon would have outclassed the young blood. Still - Aemond deserves his flowers.

With the might of Aeamond and Deamond alone...The Targaryens would've been a power house that at this point could've easily taken Dorne, the Stepstones and cemented true Targaryen greatness, but the Dance poisoned everyone's minds. Those two are so incredibly bad ass.
I'll tell you why he is important: the choice of face, the character's image, the so-far depiction of his boldness(in stealing the dragon), all smell of a much bigger share of future development. There are footprints of dramatic works you just cannot miss, and you don't need a degree or credit of a 1000 movies watching to know it.

@@Argos-xb8ek Dragons aren't inherited they are claimed. Like a mutual relationship. You have to prove you are worthy of it. Even Viserys recognized that the targaryens don't own the dragons. The dragons ALLOW them in their presence. Especially ones that are far more seasoned and experienced.
Just like trying to tame a wolf or a lion. Its not ownership. It is a mutual alliance. One that requires respect and a level of fearlessness. Which Aemond displayed to Vhagar in spades. The kid did his homework while the young girls lived under the delusion that Vhagar was just automatically theirs by right. But Dragons don't live under that delusion. Dragons aren't objects to be passed down.

So I know in the book Vaemond wasn’t a brother but in the show all these “second sons” have Aemon in their name. Wonder if there is a reason for this or just a coincidence.
Wow, yes. Maester Aemon. Btw, Vaemond is a 3rd son. Second sons are effing important in their world. There's a whole organization The Second Sons in Essos.

Yeah… aemond died from drowning because he was tied to his vhagars saddle. I’m sure dark sister through his eye and out his neck had no negative effects on aemond health at all

I really like the actor they have playing Aemond now. He looks a lot like Daemon (Matt Smith) which adds to the rivalry between them. Aemond is what everyone made him to be given how he was treated when he was young, but he is also, like was pointed out still "hot headed" like his uncle no matter how smart and cunning he is. He is one of my favorite characters and if they do end him and Daemon like the book it will be a good ending for both of them.
I agree. Funny how most fans said Aemond got his karma and Demon won. They both went out as warriors end of Story.

They made Aemond look older than Aegon. Idk if that’s how it was supposed to be but the previous episode Aegon looked older than his own older self in the new episode
That's because the dragon that they ride has an influence on the rider. So vhagar is the reason Aemond is big and ruthless.
