You make the best truly informative reviews for the real working people on a budget looking to do their best with their $$. For the budget-minded bikes, you are the only one, and much more thorough than most big sponsorship chans on the net. Most YTers have expensive bikes that "every day people" will not afford on their income and are left with the gamble. There are no other sources besides the cheap bike manual downloads or ad info that's always sketchy.... Thanks for making the YT community better. Good day.
We just got an aggressor pro for my son, and it had excessive chain play like you have described in your videos. I purchased a new chain and made it one link shorter than the stock chain. The bike still shifts though all of the gears and so far no more issue with chain drop or gear changes.
I feel the need to express my views on this. It suits what I’ve done perfectly. (btw my name is Joe, just using my girlfriend’s account) I owned the Nishiki Colorado and currently own the GT Agressor Pro. With the upgrades I have done to the Agressor, I will say it is far superior to the Colorado. Granted I did spend quite a bit of money to get my Agressor to where I want, and I can say I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’ve ridden many bikes in my time. Including my brothers $2,500 carbon frame bike and I would choose my Agressor any day of the week. I bought it with the intention of performing upgrades as I could afford them and still be able to ride it in the meantime. I’m a bigger guy at 6’3 190lbs and the stuff I can do with this bike shocked me. I love it and will keep it for a very long time. Again I will say that I spent a lot of money on it that others would scoff at and ask why but I did the upgrades as I could afford them. Now I own a $1700 GT Agressor Pro. Granted not resale, but I definitely am not selling it. I’ve been riding for almost 20 years and my best advice is screw price. Try as many bikes as you can and find the ONE that FITS you the best. Perfect fit beats any price.
I miss these prices :( hopefully they will come back some day. Bike prices seem to be way up (by $100-$200) after both the aftermath of the Chinese tariffs as well as the current pandemic.
If you’re spending close to $500 get a specialized rockhopper from your local bike shop. The bike will be properly set up and if you have any issues they will gladly help you!
@@christiandruan good luck finding a specialized rockhopper at any bike shop right now

@@meisum4f yup... just got mine for $510. could of kicked myself for not using 20% coupon and saving $100. but definitely in high demand and scarce around here.
I also found that my gt aggressor had shifting issues on rough trails and the rear derailleur hanger would bend if you sneezed on it. Sick of having to adjust it or replace parts after every ride I decided to delete the problem by converting it to a single speed with a chain tensioner. Now it’s super simple, reliable and fun to ride!
I struggled with the derailleurs on my Gt Aggressor pro at first and eventually broke the chain for quick fix i put a cheap walmart bell chain which is alot smaller than the stock and adjusted the derailleurs again and now they work great together. 250+miles on this set up and I have had no issues since switching to the lighter chain and honestly love the bike.
Of all the "budget" bikes you have reviewed, the Nishiki and Schwinn Cutback are the ones that I'm looking to buy. I've recently got back in to cycling, and with a family, the budget/entry level bikes are more inline with my needs currently. Love these videos
I've had a good experience with Nishiki. Back in the late 80's I got a Nishiki Cresta GT touring bike. It now has more miles on it than most people have on their cars.
I bought a nishiki Colorado right after you posted the first video. I love it. I’ve put it through hell and have yet to have a major malfunction. I did change the grips to raceface and am waiting on my Chester pedals to get here. Other than that I’m overall pleased.
The Nishiki Colorado Comp is similar to my 1992 Nishiki Barbarian frame, with 3x7 Shimano, and 26 inch wheel set. I still ride the Barbarian, and has a 30 lb weight. It was the lower end bike to the Alien. They were pre-full suspension frame geometry experiments. The bottom bracket was designed to clear curbs, and were an urban bike, but the gearset is set to be used to climb 40% grade hills with its oval front chainrings. I even used it to race in a few early triathlons, before getting a proper Tri bike. Love the frame design. Good to see the Colorodo Comp has a front suspension fork, and added disc brakes. That I lack, and upgraded to a RCS Mayor fatbike with 4.8 inch x 26 rims, and 1x11 SRAM, with Lauf front carbon fork. Looking to upgrade that frame to carbon. Nice to see and old frame design come back with modern components. Truly exciting.
Thanks for the update on the Colorado, I'm going to pull the trigger on one if I can catch it on sale. I wasn't in the market for a new bike as I just got one this spring and I've been very happy with it. After a trip to Colorado, I was, however, in the market to change out my 1x9 to a 1x11 after some of those climbs. I was REALLY wanting a few more gears lol. I was actually looking at the NX setup that is on the Colorado for the upgrade before I was aware of this bike. So I plan on pulling the trigger on this bike if I can catch it on sale. If I can get it for $379, minus the $175 I was going to pay for the NX setup on it's own anyways, I'm looking at $204 with a 1x9 setup on this bike after I swap the x9 for x11. I think that works out to be a pretty sweet deal as I've wanted to try a plus bike and like you, I think it is a really good looking bike. On your weight question, the weight on the Nishiki is in the fork. That fork weighs about 7.4 pounds. The Kodiak Fork is about 4.3 pounds. I would also be curious to pull and weigh the front wheels and see how much the rims and tires weigh on each bike.
got my wife the women's version of the gt and i took it in to my local bike shop where the owner who also happens to be a good friend and when i told him i paid $299 plus tax. he said i got a good deal. he looked it over and checked the brakes, gears and set the seat to her height so she would be comfortable. he said just keep it clean and and well greased and you should have many great years of riding.
I also own this one and wasn’t happy with the derailleur. I bought a 9 speed Shimano Deore xt and has superbly resolved the noisy chain slapping and derailleur going out of whack issues. I’m happy with this bike after I bought the derailleur.
Great information! I had minor shifting issues with my GT Pro. Once I got that lined out I Replaced the stem for a shorter one and also a new chain. The new chain seems to have help my shifting and have had zero issues.
I really love my Nishiki Colorado Comp. I have done a number of upgrades on the bike by adding Raceface Atlas bars and headset, Chester pedals, Cobb Plus saddle, ODI Rogue grips and and PNW Pine dropper post.. My next upgrade is trying to find a decent fork that will fit this bike and plus size tires.. If you know of one to recommend please let me know.. Fortunately I did not have the same problems with the set up of the bike you had but i did the assembly myself and with a few minor adjustments to the brakes and the derailleur it seems to work flawlessly.. Thanks for your videos. They are all great..
Lan Youree. Cane creek does make an adapter. You should try measuring your headtube inner diameter top and bottom to see if it will even work. Then go shop for a fork.
@@MikeinCC I agree, I have been toying with the idea of using the Cane Creek adapter and crown race kit.. Not even sure it will work but it might allow use of a tapered fork.. I am trying to find someone familiar with that set up which i am sure isn't ideal but might offer an improvement.. It is still a great bike for my purposes and certainly works fine for my plus size bike needs..
My set up is ok I think. It shifts very nice if you don’t cross the lines. The seat was straight. The brakes worked. I think maybe the tire is a little misshaped. It looks a little crooked when riding sometimes. I’m glad I got it. I’m only doing budget upgrades as well.
This might sound silly but I had breaking problems with my brakes also and I just took the pads and put them over a fire to burn off all the grease and impurities. After that my brakes stopped on a dime. No damage was done to the pad. As far as the rotors just clean them with alcohol or regular brake clean.
I had the same problem on a higher end alivio 9 speed derailleur I do work experience at the local bike shop and learnt that the problem can happen to any derailleur Even once in a sram GX DH 7 speed Basically the problem lies with the rotentian spring the cage relies on to move. If that was bent too far in production it'll be weaker forever. And it costs just as much to get a new sram X3 derailleur than buy an acera specific spring I know what I'd do Keep up the good work 👍
Hi! Happy Holidays! I just picked up this bike last night. DSG is a nightmare to deal with. Buying this buy was not easy but I would not give in to poor customer service. DSG would not allow me to buy the bike online. So I had to go to the store ,3 of them. One store had the bike but not my size. Their lack of an inventory system leaves you shaking your head as no one seemed to know which DSG had the bike in stock or when they will be getting them in. Finally the third store had the bike but in the box but would not sell it to me because it’s against store policy. So I bought it last Sunday right there and then for $379.00 and picked it up last night. Of course when I get there they could not find the bike after being told on the phone it was being built. I even gave them a 6 hour cushion before I picked it up. They finally find it and everything seems to be in order except the person who built the bike put little air in the tires. So then an employee tries to fill the the front tire with a Schrader valve head. I then tell him that it won’t work on a presta valve. I took him and the bike over to where they had their bike pumps and filled both tires that way. Whew! This was my first ever purchase of a bike from a big department store and I appreciate my LBS even more today :) so persistence and patience paid off. I don’t blame the employees, I blame management for not training them the right way. This poor kid told me he doesn’t even work in the bike department but I told him he should have a bike pump near his station at all times :) Anyway my question is this: what is the deal with the QR on the thru axle. When I went to take off the front tire it all fell apart. It looks like the locking screw is plastic. Any help on this and can I put an aftermarket QR in there? Thanks for your time.
4 years later and the GT Aggressor is now selling for $599 on sale at Dicks and the Colorado is for sale on Ebay where asking price is about $800 (IF you can find one.) if I had a time machine.I'd go back and buy 10 of them and double my $$$$$$$$$$
Great video. Chain dropps are a pain on my son's GT Pro Aggressor. He's on his second bike because he took a bad fall from a chain drop which he was scared and flipped over but he's ok. The only reason why Dick's replaced it because it happened in the store. Due to warranty issues I can't swap that BS derailleur with a SLX. As for the Colorado, next few weeks I'm either going to purchase the Schwinn Axum or the Colorado. Thanks again for another great video.
This channel is awesome! I have the gt aggressor and it's a good bike for a beginner like myself. Hope to see you review more cheap bikes from other sources besides wal mart
If I had to pick one of the bikes, it would have to be the nishiki Colorado comp. to find a 27.5+ bike with a 1x11 and only for $499!? It’s a crazy deal! The whole drivetrain costs more than half the bike. I wish I knew about the Colorado comp Before I bought my specialized pitch sport.
I got the trek roscoe 8 last year for a bike that’s a 27.5+ and a hardtail and then this came out. I just wanted something cheaper to mess around with as I like fs more
Nah, you made the right choice. The Specialized Pitch is a much better bike that the Colorado. It has wow factor, but once that fades you realize the 1x10 drivetrain is not practical. The 2x9 on that pitch is better for any real mountain biking. The pitch frame is such better quality it is not even funny. Peoples' Colorados are falling apart. Bending seat posts, cracked frames. Who cares about a 1x? I'd rather have a 3x8 even over a 1x10.
Yep, my Colorado developed creaks and pops around the crank. I'm going to replace the crank and bottom bracket with an upgraded setup. Other that that so far I have really enjoyed this bike, especially after getting the derailleur hanger issue fixed.
I bought a Nishiki Colorado Comp a couple months ago for “1/2 off” at $350 before tax. It’s been a really fun bike. I love how agile it is. I’ve had a few bikes in the $1000-1300 range that weren’t as fun (but were put together better) I had issues with the bottom bracket/crank where the right side was contacting the frame when I pedaled hard. I tried a couple things to correct it, but I couldn’t ever fix it. I replaced it with a generic “Hollowtech 2 type” BB that has drastically improved that part of the experience. Otherwise I swapped out the pedals and grips, because I didn’t care for the included stuff, not because of any specific issue. On the issue of weight, the front forks are unbelievably heavy. I think they may be the heaviest forks I’ve ever held. I might pick up a cheap set of Raidons to drop about 3 pounds (!!!!) or maybe spend a couple hundred on something truly light and drop almost 4.5 pounds (!!!!!!!!). I’ll probably stick with the cheaper course, but I wanted to point out just how much these stock forks weigh and how light this bike could truly be with a couple hundred dollars more (plus an extra $40 for a conversion kit to allow a tapered steerer). Anyway, it’s been a really fun bike and it has lots of potential, if your willing to sink a little extra money into it.
Does this bike have 44mm head tube inside diameter that would allow it to accept the Cane Creek straight to tapered conversion headset? Doesn't look like it to me, but I hope I'm wrong. It's the only thing keeping me from buying this bike instead of a Salsa Timberjack or a Trek Roscoe.
I also love this bike and have started doing upgrades and will eventually have a really nice bike.. If you have any information on a good fork that will fit this bike I would like to hear from you.. That will likely be my next upgrade if I can find something better.. Even if it cost a couple hundred, the benefit will be worth it.. So far the things I have added which makes a big difference are Raceface Atlas bars and headset, Cobb Plus Seat, Raceface Chester pedals, ODI Rogue grips and PNW Pine dropper post.. that sounds like a lot to put into a bike but I have found it to be worth it.. The fork is my biggest complaint and since adding the dropper post I need to get a lighter fork to lower the weight.. For the rides I have been doing the weight is not that big of a deal but it would be nice to get it down a little. I appreciate any ideas you can offer for a fork that will work.. Thanks..
$350 is not 1/2 off on a bike that is $499... $250 would be more like it. IF you paid $350 on a $499 bike that was half off, they ripped you off big time... Even at the $599 it's currently priced at $350 is not 1/2 off. I looked at this bike before I bought a Trek Marlin 5, the fact that I couldn't even try it before buying it made me look elsewhere, I don't care how good DSG's return policy is, and with the issues on an off-the-shelf bike.
*Former DSG bike mechanic here* I also sold both of these bikes to my friends I knew the Nishiki Colorado Comp's mech hangers to be subject to bending on arrival in their boxes. This is either a problem on DSG's distribution or Nishiki's packaging. Either way the end result is the same. Before a bike can leave the store, it must have all it's bolts and functions checked. Make sure that you see the bike shift smoothly through all the gears. If it doesn't, ask for either a new hanger (if that's the problem) or another bike from their stock. They will make sure you get what you want. They're very good about that. A lot of DSG stores can order parts (like a new Acera derailleur). They have J&B catalogs and Shimano catalogs. If they do bike services (ei if they sell bikes) at your location, they can get you the part you need. In addition get one of their warranties if you plan on riding a lot, trails or not. DSG operates in the low-mid range of bikes for the most part. Things will break. The warranties cover all parts and labor, the bottom line being "if we can't fix it, we'll replace it." Even if the bike mechanic on-hand ain't so great, you can take the free parts to a full bike shop for installation or of course DIY. These are great bikes. No doubt in my mind. But make sure you pull the right one from their stock!
My experience with DSG and their bike service was different. When I asked about a replacement hanger, I was told by the bike mechanic (who admitted he had never touched a 1x) that “all we can do is adjust things.” I contacted DSG via their web site customer service and was completely stonewalled. Not impressed. That said, the bike isn’t bad for the price. Too bad they have it listed as unavailable (even for shipping) for my area now. I want another to part out. Thanks for commenting.
What would be great is a big box bike that had a frame capable of doing all the upgrades you could do to a more expensive bike. You could add a tapered steerer & high-end fork, a classy wheelset, lighter bars, stem, & seatpost, maybe even a drive train. When you want to move up later into the high-end bike category, you could just get a high-end frame and swap out all your new parts onto it. You can then put all the original parts back on the big box frame & either keep it for a backup or sell it as a used example of the original. Install all your upgrade components on the new frame. This is a suggested way of buying an expensive bike if you don' have the means to purchase one outright. You don't need to purchase everything new, as well. For a fork and for a drivetrain, I'd recommend getting those new, unless any available used ones seem to have little-to-no wear.
@@dylandean4555 the standard for mountain bikes produced now is a tapered headtube... also the standard for forks now... so it will be harder and harder to find straight tube forks as time moves on. Not impossible, just harder.
Are you familiar with either the Hope or Cane Creek adapter for the bottom head tube to convert to a tapered fork? I have considered this but I am not sure how well they work.. For now I am pretty happy with the stock Suntour XCM but I also am always looking ways to upgrade.. I have already replaced a lot of the components that I considered possible weak points and have been totally happy with the Colorado Comp..
Lan Youree I tried the hope 40/44 to a 1.5 headset cup and it didn’t work. The inner head tube won’t allow for the cup to fit. Hopefully @kevcentral can work his magic and upgrade the fork
I bought Nishiki Colorado and had problems with gearing so traded to Gt aggressor pro when it was on sale for $299. Plus size tire, 100ml fork and one by crank with 11 gearing is preaty good for a Colorado. I might buy it later when it is on sale again.
So I want a Gt aggressor pro mainly because it looks good and at first I just plan to ride it around the neighborhood. But I plan to upgrade some parts to get it Trail ready
The Nishiki looks like a great bike, I’m sure this would be your next upgrades but a short stem and some wide bars would give it a very solid feel. Great bike to start with if that’s your price point, 1x’s are great
The nishiki Colorado bike is not that bad I been looking for one here at Walmart but no luck . I watched your video all that time and I really enjoyed it.
I decided to buy the nishiki colorado 2 weeks ago after shopping around and watching your initial review video of it. Initially it was a lot of fun to ride on some casual double track trails but I also noticed a number of setup issues from dick's. First off, they didn't even bother to inflate my tires at the store so I had to do that at home. It was kind of annoying but not that big of a deal so I inflated the tires and hit the trails. I had a blast but had to adjust my brakes when I got home. Then, just a few days ago I tried to go down a small flight of concrete stairs at a local park and the front tire twisted hard to the left relative to the handlebars and I, and the bike, took a nasty tumble. I was uninjured but since that incident I'm scared to take the bike back to a trail and risk it breaking on me again. To anyone looking to buy this bike, it's a great bike but you absolutely MUST take it to a competent bike mechanic and make sure the clowns at Dicks haven't set it up in a way that could kill or injure you - this is especially important if you're just getting into mountain biking and have little experience with tools/tinkering with things. (also since the aforementioned crash I've noticed a strange creaking noise coming from somewhere around the bottom bracket that doesn't affect the way the bike rides, but it is rather annoying.) I've been waiting for this video since I saw the initial review, thanks for all you do kev!
You need to take it to a bike shop. It seems like the bike needs a good setup and maybe a new bottom bracket. It shouldn't be expensive and you will get a nice bike to shred the trails with confidence again.
Update: today I took the bike on a short climb up a local mountain and the rear brake pinch bolt came loose on the way up. I checked the front brake and it was loose too. I don't think I have any confidence left in this bike as-is so I'm just going to return it to dicks and demand my money back. I'm just going to buy a trek - my 10 year old 820 never gave me this much grief.
If this bike was sold under the Trek brand trough a Trek retailer im pretty certain you wouldn't be having any issues about the setup quality of the bike even if all the parts were the same. The problem, is that as a bike aimed at beginners they should realize most people don`t know much about bicycle mechanics, so it should be the sellers responsibility to make sure that they don`t deliver a poorly built piece of kit to their customers that not only ruins the customer experience but could even endanger them.
@@JohnDoe-yc7xq, have you taken the bike to a small bike shop? I can only imagine the frustration that you are dealing with. I hope that you get some resolution soon
@@tonester1971 Thanks for the concern, but I just took my Colorado back to Dicks for a full refund. I shopped around for a week after everything went down and I had to decide between a trek marlin 5 and a diamondback overdrive 2, and chose the latter. I'm much happier with my diamondback even though it cost me about $200 more than the Colorado.
robsp32 - Yeah, and the GT Aggressor Pro is $479.99. I was wanting the Colorado until I saw the price on the website. I’ll wait until they have a REAL sale!!!
in regards to the straight steerer, Suntour makes the Raidon in a straight steerer version and the tapered version came on my Giant Fathom and was great
I appreciate the info, but I don’t think you’re factoring all the requirements: straight steerer, thru axel, AND fitting 27.5+. I’m still waiting on people to give me the exact fork that supposedly meets all these requirements. Nothing yet.
I actually work at a DSG in the bike dept. Just started about 2 months ago, and I have to say that all DSG's are NOT the same. When I started, I was actually shocked to see a fully outfitted service area with all the Park tools (all of them). I thought I was just going to be building bikes in the back storage area with the wrong tools. In the video when you said "the two GTs available at the store" tells me a lot because at the store I'm at we sold almost 30 Aggressor Pros since Sunday (4-28-19) and built 15 more yesterday for the current bike sale. I even bought myself one, that I'm already upgrading/modifying to my liking, its obviously not a perfect bike. I ride BMX mostly and the last MTB I owned was a Specialized Stump Jumper back in '09. That bike had set-up issues as well even though it was assembled by a private owned Bicycle Store. I took it back to have it adjusted twice if I remember correctly. Anyway I just wanted to comment and defend myself and coworkers in our store because we do set up the bikes properly. I like the video, keep up the good work.
I'm about to buy this bike in California at $480 and that is DOWN from the $670 they wanted before the sale it is supposedly on..... makes you wonder if that $370 inflation is for updated something, or the CVD 19 excitment now....
On my Agressor, I got a Shimano Deore M591 bc my Acera got smashed and the Deore has yet to drop my chain and although it is a 9 speed derailleur, it shifts very well. The longer cage helps with chain drops even though it lacks a clutch. And I got a new stem and now it’s a great bike
I have had brake and chain drop issues on my gt aggressor pro. Even just easy riding. I adjusted it myself and has stopped most of the issues but its enough of an issue that i hardly ride it
Another question for everyone: I haven't had a 1x drivetrain since my first bike at age 6, a 1 x 1 lol. And I've read comments saying 1x's are awesome, while other say they are difficult. I've always had strong legs. But when climbing, the majority of the climbing I do is on residential streets (where I live- San Ramon CA, very hill-y, the street elevation changes by a couple hundred feet within half a mile), with an occasional trip to Las Trampas or some trail near me. And I'm an ex-college linebacker, 6'2" 225lbs. Anybody got an opinion? I'd like to hear from experienced people.
What do you think between the trek fuel ex 5 and the giant stance 29 2 , I’m a 49 year old man start riding a iron horse from Walmart like the mtb sport but after a few parts been replace on my bike is time for an upgrade I’m looking these two bikes need an expert opinion, hardly ever do any jumps is more uphill and down hill rolling I do enjoy going uphill.
I also have thank kevcentral for all the good info, and spending so much on bikes to help us out with good reviews. Your last video on xr pro pushed me away from the idea. I am excited to see the hyper hydro build.
I’ve yet to ride an XCE/M/R/T that I couldn’t bottom out on root filled trails. That’s not saying they aren’t ok, because I’ve used them lots over the years. It may be rider weight making the difference with your experience. I know 175lbs on a trail can push it to the bottom.
Very interested in that Colorado as a first mountain bike. My road bike can't take aggressive pavement, much less a trip to the white water center... 😅😅
I have the aggressor pro and had little to no problems. However I took the bike to a local bike dealer and had it adjusted and tuned. I agree the bike is noisy, but for my type of riding I love it. Unfortunately I have recently had a back injury and had to park it for a while now. Sucks, but evertime I ride the pain is unbearable.
im very interested in the GT, i am not interested in having to buy something just to spend several hundred to upgrade it, 299 i like but whats a 299 that i dont have to upgrade?
It took a lot of looking, but you can get a Manitou Marquar 29 boost that comes with an upgrade axle. I could only find white. But it’s a 200% improvement. And pretty inexpensive
nishiki colorado seems to be asking for a belt drive conversion. would it be possible to convert this to use a belt drive w/ shimano nexus, alfine, or even an enviolo cvt? i'm guessing you just need to replace the rear wheel spokes, front ring, rear cog, shifters & maybe the bottom bracket?
Just shorten your chain for 4 or 6 chain links and it'll be fine, no chain drops. Also I can recommend you to tighten tension bolt on derailleur, it placed close to adjustment bolts.
HOW ABOUT THE GT AVALANCHE OPTION WITH HYDRO DISK BRAKES and better drive train parts ,there two options of this l ve seen at SPORT CHEK the sport and the expert which l believe has front air shock .They re priced $500 and $750 CDN .Even just let me know what you thing at a glance of the difference in parts THANKS
Right now, October 28 2020, DSG has GT for 479 and the Nishiki for 649. I'm thinking wait until Black Friday...but will there be a Black Friday sale? Should I buy now or wait? Anyone?
My buddy bought a colorado. Its scary similar to my $1100 Salsa timberjack. The biggest difference is in weight, but the capability is amazing. Pretty much on par with the Salsa on what it can do and where it can get you.
except for -tubeless compatible tires/rims -air suspension -hydraulic brakes -thru-axles all around, Alternator dropouts, dropper post compatibility, tapered head tube, trail-appropriate geometry, and not made of lead so yeah, pretty much the same despite being completely different
are you daft? they are only alike in form. I don't own or want a Timberjack (Aluminum bikes rarely pique my interest) but the differences are clear if you ask the same of both bikes. quality and spec matters, and Dick's doesnt have a clue about either
Honestly, if i could, I would buy the Nishiki over the GT. The aggressor needed a new derallieur entirely, and a hanger. The nishiki seems to be already a 1x, so upgrades to the drivetrains would seen easier.
Great videos man. Keep them coming. Honestly i would buy the Colorado comp over the gt and i love gt bikes but everything about Colorado comp is better. Iike your channel way more than seths bike hacks because it sticks to the bikes. His channel started off as your but is no longer about bikes it feels like. I'm glad your channel sticks to the bikes and reviewing them. If you ever decide to add more of a pop to that colorado comp i would suggest looking at buying some raceface bars and cranks and perhaps plasti dip the top tube. Its removable rubber paint. Just a thought
Hey keV, Im in between the GT aggressor, schwinn boundary, or the Colorado. I’m 5’8 180 pounds. And a beginner to mountain bike riding. What would you recommend?
I just got the gt today. You can get it in a few different sizes of frames. Btw i spent hat the day adjusting all the components too. Other than that a 👌
So I installed an XCM fork on my Kona, and notice the "oil" marks on the fork after a ride. I notice yours has the same. Any idea what that is from?? I ride pretty hard, and actually did a race today and it's holding up great. No noise from mine btw. And I absolutely love the plus tire sized bike. Unfortunately Dick's doesn't ship to Alaska, and from what I've been able to find, they're the only ones who carry it.
i just bought a Gt pro and i love it but now i have had 1 chain drop and there is a loud ticking noise from some where in the bike i feel like the preload is doing nothing i have a 2 year warranty but also i have seen dicks has not set it up correctly so what should i do? can you help

Perfect fit beats any price.
did you buy the Large or Xrtra large for the gt agressor
what type of fork did you end up going with?
Weight is always an issue..... My wife wasn't happy when I told her that
Porker eh? 😂

I miss these prices :( hopefully they will come back some day. Bike prices seem to be way up (by $100-$200) after both the aftermath of the Chinese tariffs as well as the current pandemic.
That $299 is currently at $479 after $200 discount.
@@shammas90 Just got mine and the total was $520
If you’re spending close to $500 get a specialized rockhopper from your local bike shop. The bike will be properly set up and if you have any issues they will gladly help you!

Can't wait to see that gas motor you hinted at on the Huffy Cranbrook video!
Keep waiting lmao
Squidgy Quijabo still waiting 😂
Mark Rampersad and still waiting
great video, you did a great job showcasing what can be done with both these bikes
The fork noise on the Nishiki is the springs need to be greased. Pull them out load them with grease and they will be quiter
cloridan Beauchamps what about milk? its got calucium
I converted my wife's GT women to 1x 8, 11-46 with 30t CR, a hundred bucks upgrade, turned out very good, no issues.
My gt agressor has no problems I love mine
Congrats. I’m thinking there are some bad Acera dérailleurs on some of them (like mine)
KevCentral yeah I had problems of shifting at times but just a little cable adjustment I went from a huffy night hawk to this it’s a major upgrade
got my wife the women's version of the gt and i took it in to my local bike shop where the owner who also happens to be a good friend and when i told him i paid $299 plus tax. he said i got a good deal. he looked it over and checked the brakes, gears and set the seat to her height so she would be comfortable. he said just keep it clean and and well greased and you should have many great years of riding.
I also own this one and wasn’t happy with the derailleur. I bought a 9 speed Shimano Deore xt and has superbly resolved the noisy chain slapping and derailleur going out of whack issues. I’m happy with this bike after I bought the derailleur.
No Kpop same
Great information!
Lan Youree. I would try a RS Recon 29. If you can find it in a straight steerer and compatible with that thru axle.
Thanks , Are you familiar with the Cane Creek or Hope headtube adapters to convert straight to tapered forks?
Lan Youree. Cane creek does make an adapter. You should try measuring your headtube inner diameter top and bottom to see if it will even work. Then go shop for a fork.
That is the weakness of this frame. You won't be able to find an upgrade fork for it. The headtube needs to be 44mm ID.
I had the same problem on a higher end alivio 9 speed derailleur
I do work experience at the local bike shop and learnt that the problem can happen to any derailleur
Even once in a sram GX DH 7 speed
Basically the problem lies with the rotentian spring the cage relies on to move. If that was bent too far in production it'll be weaker forever. And it costs just as much to get a new sram X3 derailleur than buy an acera specific spring
I know what I'd do
Keep up the good work 👍
I just wanted something cheaper to mess around with as I like fs more
Not to say the Pitch Sport is a bad bike though. You still got pretty good frame.
I bought Colorado comp and so far I love, although it did have a few setup prbles that weren't to hard for me to fix
Gergely Hajos my pitch sport has a straighter steerer tube. It looks like a tapered headset, but when I took out the fork, it had a 1 1/8” steerer.
I just brought them to imo the best bike shop in my town.....and now I have NO problems
I bought a Nishiki Colorado Comp a couple months ago for “1/2 off” at $350 before tax. It’s been a really fun bike. I love how agile it is. I’ve had a few bikes in the $1000-1300 range that weren’t as fun (but were put together better)
I had issues with the bottom bracket/crank where the right side was contacting the frame when I pedaled hard.
@@plmacdon No it doesn't have a 44 mm steerer tube, I'd say that and the bottom bracket are its only weak areas, but otherwise I'm enjoying mine.
That one Guy what is the head tube diameter? Did you measure it?
*Former DSG bike mechanic here*
I also sold both of these bikes to my friends
I knew the Nishiki Colorado Comp's mech hangers to be subject to bending on arrival in their boxes.
It's really nice that you treat these bikes fairly, not everybody wants to put 1000 euro down to see if they like the sport !
I will soon upgrade from my Nishiki Pueblo to the Colorado for sure!!!
I don’t think the Colorado is available anymore
@@KevCentral it's not I went to dicks sporting they had one model tried to buy it they said "i dont know how it got here we stopped selling them"
That Colorado! Your review just sold me! I was just about to buy the GT ...Not no! Thank you!
My aggressor has had no issue other than a few flats here and there I got mine at al's cycle and hobby a year ago
Great videos I have been watching your channel more and more because I really like the information that you put out there!

That Nishiki is beautiful, but why can't they do it with a tapered head tube?
jf0314 how big of a deal is that exactly? What does that mean for the bike?

Totally agree with your choice, my Aggressor pro had issues. Wish I'd gotten the Colorado.
I’m somewhat digging on the Colorado. I bought it to loot as parts for the XR, but have since changed my mind
Great bike to start with if that’s your price point, 1x’s are great
That bike frame design is amazing very smart
(also since the aforementioned crash I've noticed a strange creaking noise coming from somewhere around the bottom bracket that doesn't affect the way the bike rides, but it is rather annoying.)
I've been waiting for this video since I saw the initial review, thanks for all you do kev!
I'm much happier with my diamondback even though it cost me about $200 more than the Colorado.

in regards to the straight steerer, Suntour makes the Raidon in a straight steerer version and the tapered version came on my Giant Fathom and was great
Looking at their site the only fork I see that fits is the one that came equipped on the bike. Don’t forget this is a 27.5+
I appreciate the info, but I don’t think you’re factoring all the requirements: straight steerer, thru axel, AND fitting 27.5+. I’m still waiting on people to give me the exact fork that supposedly meets all these requirements. Nothing yet.
You can get adapters for tapered forks to fit it
That Acera derailleur seems to have huge side to side play. Just like it was heavily worn or damaged during shipping.
The Kodiak has a very good look. The extra weight comes probably from the fork, which uses coil spring and steel stanchions

Of all the bikes you have reviewed on this channel, the Raleigh Kodiak 2 is by far the best. It is also the only bike I would consider buying.
So, the GT Aggressor is now up to $799! At what price is it worth buying today?
$599 on sale at DSG this week
On my Agressor, I got a Shimano Deore M591 bc my Acera got smashed and the Deore has yet to drop my chain and although it is a 9 speed derailleur, it shifts very well. The longer cage helps with chain drops even though it lacks a clutch. And I got a new stem and now it’s a great bike
I have had brake and chain drop issues on my gt aggressor pro. Even just easy riding. I adjusted it myself and has stopped most of the issues but its enough of an issue that i hardly ride it
Bought one for my son (GT). I set it up as I got it online. No issues. I have a 23 yo aggressor pro. Keeps on ticking.
Another question for everyone:
I haven't had a 1x drivetrain since my first bike at age 6, a 1 x 1 lol.
I'd like to hear from experienced people.
im thinking of purchasing the Nishhiki colorado
I'd say you wont find anything better at that price and so far I'm satisfied with mine
thanks for the feedback!
I had problems with my acera derailleur and chain drops as well, like it didnt have anywhere near enough spring tension.
The Colorado seems like a really cool bike
$$$$$ cannot find one for anything less than $700 used
What do you think between the trek fuel ex 5 and the giant stance 29 2 , I’m a 49 year old man start riding a iron horse from Walmart like the mtb sport but after a few parts been replace on my bike is time for an upgrade I’m looking these two bikes need an expert opinion, hardly ever do any jumps is more uphill and down hill rolling I do enjoy going uphill.

I also have thank kevcentral for all the good info, and spending so much on bikes to help us out with good reviews. Your last video on xr pro pushed me away from the idea. I am excited to see the hyper hydro build.
What is the background song name?
I like the nishiki one 😊👍 tapped the like button just as the ad started playing 😂 great content sir 👍
Can you do a suspension fork upgrade video......please
I ride a 2017 Fuji Nevada 1.7 which has a Suntour xct fork and it makes a no noise at all whatsoever
Hope you can get back on the saddle soon!
im very interested in the GT, i am not interested in having to buy something just to spend several hundred to upgrade it, 299 i like but whats a 299 that i dont have to upgrade?
I have a Palomar GT, with a Tourney derailleur, could I replace it with a Accer derailleur?
It took a lot of looking, but you can get a Manitou Marquar 29 boost that comes with an upgrade axle. I could only find white. But it’s a 200% improvement. And pretty inexpensive
I've used my aggressor on some jumps and it handles fine in fact i was able to clear a few jumps
Murican coasters I broke my frame so 15 foot drops r about the limit
My husband and I both have diamondback response xc and we bought them use Dick's sporting fixes them all the time when we need them
Got the specialized comp and it's the sr suntour xcm with specialized damping doo dad and it doesnt make a sound when I'm hitting the trails
GT Aggressor Pro now is sat up with micro shift 26 no longer the Acera derailleur
is it worth 500 dollars tho
nishiki colorado seems to be asking for a belt drive conversion. would it be possible to convert this to use a belt drive w/ shimano nexus, alfine, or even an enviolo cvt?
i'm guessing you just need to replace the rear wheel spokes, front ring, rear cog, shifters & maybe the bottom bracket?
Will you sell your colorado bike by any chance
2:27 upgrade that accera deraliur to a accera rd-m370, makes a world of difference :)
Just shorten your chain for 4 or 6 chain links and it'll be fine, no chain drops. Also I can recommend you to tighten tension bolt on derailleur, it placed close to adjustment bolts.
Any updates 2023?
Looking in to buying one of those bikes
The Nishiki Colorado comp is up to $799.99 now (1/21/2019) here in Florida. Outrageous price hike.
Agreed
HOW ABOUT THE GT AVALANCHE OPTION WITH HYDRO DISK BRAKES and better drive train parts ,there two options of this l ve seen at SPORT CHEK the sport and the expert which l believe has front air shock .They re priced $500 and $750 CDN .Even just let me know what you thing at a glance of the difference in parts THANKS
Right now, October 28 2020, DSG has GT for 479
and the Nishiki for 649.
I'm thinking wait until Black Friday...but will there be a Black Friday sale?
Should I buy now or wait? Anyone?
My buddy bought a colorado. Its scary similar to my $1100 Salsa timberjack. The biggest difference is in weight, but the capability is amazing. Pretty much on par with the Salsa on what it can do and where it can get you.
except for
-tubeless compatible tires/rims
-air suspension
-hydraulic brakes
-thru-axles all around, Alternator dropouts, dropper post compatibility, tapered head tube, trail-appropriate geometry, and not made of lead
so yeah, pretty much the same despite being completely different
Sounds like somebody who overpaid for the Timberjack...
are you daft? they are only alike in form. I don't own or want a Timberjack (Aluminum bikes rarely pique my interest) but the differences are clear if you ask the same of both bikes. quality and spec matters, and Dick's doesnt have a clue about either
Frame is Heat treated/butted 6061 aluminum and Mountain geometry with assymetrical chain stays
Honestly, if i could, I would buy the Nishiki over the GT. The aggressor needed a new derallieur entirely, and a hanger. The nishiki seems to be already a 1x, so upgrades to the drivetrains would seen easier.
You can swap out the drive train to a 1x11. You'd lose weight, get more effective gearing and I was able to DYI it and it's better.
I have the aggressor pro and I have had no problems at all
I bought an Northrock xc27 it has Altus shifter. Is that better than Acera?. I haven’t received my bike yet.
i just bought a Gt pro and i love it but now i have had 1 chain drop and there is a loud ticking noise from some where in the bike i feel like the preload is doing nothing i have a 2 year warranty but also i have seen dicks has not set it up correctly so what should i do? can you help
