    OH what a delight to change those brake pads, luckily the car is so beautiful as it helps make all the extra work worth the effort. Looking forward to seeing you tying the wires on those bolts, former 1964 02s owner. thanks for sharing, looking forward to a great result. Cheers from Dallas, TX

      Thanks Mark, I’ll hopefully do a good job with the lock wire. My best regards to you over there in Texas, more to follow soon.

    You left me in suspense. I cannot wait to see how you got the spline shaft apart. That looks like the kind of problems that I constantly run into. Great video.

      Thanks Bruce. The next episode starts with how I got on with the splined shaft. Wasn’t easy!

    Thank you so much for a great video.I too can’t wait to see how you deal with the stuck splines.
    I replaced the hub seals and shimmed both sides without taking the whole unit off the car. My back has just recovered!!!

      Thanks Andy, a 64 FHC is a very worthy project. I hope this helps. Good luck! I’ve still got a lot to learn but these cars are worth it.

    Great content bringing back memories. I did mine 10 years ago and had it upside down, providing a little better access to the half shafts. I also took the diff with brakes on out of the cage, again for mush better access. I’m not sure if you mention it, but once you have taken the handbrake apart always replace the forks that pull the brake pads away from the disc. I didn’t and had one handbrake pad dragging on the disc and subsequently disintegrating leaving me with no hand brake.

      Thanks for the tips Ole. Yes I’ll make sure I replace the handbrake springs, certainly don’t want that to happen!

    whenever I have worked on these rear ends (more times than I care to mention) I found the best way was to remove the cage first. Yes it gets a little awkward the the lower fulcrum but once off I flip the diff over and everything is easy to get to.

    Anyone inspired to dismantle their car, may I suggest leaving the unit on the floor, removing the e brake scissor assembly and e brake calipers, flipping the unit over, and stripping it into lumps that won't kill u or destroy your car when it skates off the bench as u try to unsieze everything..this also helps big time when assembling as the half shafts won't hang

    • @fossewayclassiccarworkshop
      @fossewayclassiccarworkshop  2 года назад

      Yes agreed, definite benefits of doing on the floor which is where I’m doing most of the reassembly

    Completing a brake service on an E-type Jaguar is prefixed with "crikey", yes?
    Did the Germans take notes of this to overengineer oil changes 🤣
    Cheers, thank you!👊

      I’ve got the 2 lug spinner, sounds like yours is one of the 3 sided ones. I’ve done a search and there are better adapters out there that have a hexagon nut in the middle which you can use with a breaker/extension bar. Give this a look, hope that helps:

    hi question i have done quite a but of mechanical work over the years on fords and toyota,s but have never attempted rebuild of this magnatude, i have discovered that these days in sydny there are not a lot of experinced etype mechanics around, is it possible to do it my self after a lot of study and setting up with what has to be done... speaking from some one that has never done one but where the slave cylinders are seized and needs a complete rebuild... possible, well any thing is possible but should i have a serous look at doing this ???? what do you think

    • @fossewayclassiccarworkshop
      @fossewayclassiccarworkshop  Год назад

      Hi, thanks for watching and for the question. I think that a rebuild like this is entirely possible by the 'home mechanic' with a decent set of sockets and spanners and a decent trolley jack most of this can be done. Slightly more specialised tooling/kit is required for fitting the safety wire, making brake pipes and measuring the end float when shimming the fulcrum shafts and bearings but these aren't expensive. I had the diff rebuilt by a specialist but there's no reason why this couldn't be done at home with parts from a Jaguar parts specialist and some online research.
      One of the good things about the Jaguar IRS is that you can remove it from the car as a unit. If you take your time I'm sure you're up to the job!
