I do basic stuff( microwave meals 🤣) but I do cook a Sunday roast , now and again, my son says its lovely , so I cant be that bad . love your cooking videos . please keep them going
Don't give up on the cooking Gareth I always enjoyed what you did. We all have the odd disaster but what I liked about your cooking videos was like myself you're not a chef just an ordinary guy like the rest of us. Yes we all know the top chefs can do wonders but it was nice to see an ordinary bloke in an ordinary kitchen cooking with ingredients we all have in our cupboards. I hope you have another go soon. Enjoyed the review btw I have had a few of the Aldi microwave meals and have found them all to be decent to be fair. Take care mate.
I'm on a diet and these little curries with rice included are ideal, but the Tikka Masala ones have a lot more calories than any of the others! I suppose because it's a creamy sauce. Jalfrezi (444 Cals) Tikka Masala (613 Cals) Rogan Josh (440 Cals) Vindaloo (416 Cals)
Nah keep at it lad, I learned how to cook one dish well, stir frys. It's a great quick dish, just a balance of soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and maybe some chilli for some heat
The thing with these ready meal currys the chicken is always sub par and from thailand or somewhere random like that…get your recipe book out Gaz and make your own. So easy…give it a whirl?
Yep, agreed, or watch another RUclipsr, Al's Kitchen, he has loads of step by step recipes and shows you how to cook British Indian Restaurant style curries.
Contrary to popular belief, chicken tikka masala was never invented in Scotland. It wasn't a case where Ali was sitting at a table with all these ingredients thibking, hmmm you do think, these ingredients, when combined, could result in the creat of a curry?? Do you?? No that never happened. Ali cooked this curry many times in Bangladesh. Mohamad cooked thia curry in Pakistan many times. Mr Singh had cooked this curry in the rural villages of Panjab many times. Mr Ram in south India had cooked it. Mr Patel in central India had cooked it. A Nepalese person had cooked it. An Afghanistan person had already cooked it. A Sri Lankan person had already cooked it. Truth it, this chicken tikka masala had already been cooked in South Asian cou tries even way before partition. It was a staple dish in Northern India. People used left over chicken tikka to make a dish with a lightly spiced tomato sauce. So no, it was never invented in Scotland, but merely the dish was introduced from India to the uk by immigrants.
I havent seen your cooking video but ive heard it through the grapevine ( sorry i was out of tune there ) that Gordon Ramseys heart skipped a few beats whilst watching it.
Good marks for Aldi. A good portion, tasty and also hot in terms of curry, which these kinds of meals often aren't. And the price is reasonable as well.
Hey up gaz I've not got an oven or microwave do you think stirring it into a pan of water on a rolling boil would work, few years ago these were £1.50 at Lidl
Good one Gareth. Looks ok. I used to think that size was not suitable as a portion but as I am now its just about enough. Keep the reviews coming but don't be worried about having a go yourself, it's entertaining for your followers and I think you secretly enjoy having a go too. Perhaps anniunce ahead what you're thinking of trying and I'm sure people wiĺl give you tips before the event.😊 Have a good Bank Holiday.
I didn't want to say anything, I'm aware you're in a state of flux. I'm no cook and watch your channel for easy meals I could try. I'm trying to get off the booze myself, I did 3 days but had the worst withdrawals today and got really ill. I was having weird visions and couldn't stop shaking. I went cold turkey after an average of 30 a day. I nearly fainted, it was like my whole body was vibrating. I'm still determined but needed some to stop the withdrawal. I've got some Diazapam off my Dad to help. Will be day four tomorrow. I'll get there. Good luck on your journey dude x
Brilliant review Gaz….. Sorry if you’ve covered this one before, I’m still in the process of watching your older videos so I’ll find it if you have and it’s far from new, but have you ever tried Charlie Bighams ready meals? They’re a little pricey, for example a Chicken Tikka and rice for 2 is priced at £9.50, but we only ever buy it when on offer (which is very often) at £7.50, so for 2 people it only works out at £3.75 each, not too bad we think. The chicken MELTS in your mouth. We just adore his whole range (does some desserts too), Waitrose have a huge selection of his meals, we usually stock up when there’s good offers all at once but on a regular basis get ours from Sainsbury’s…… if you haven’t tried them, I’d love to hear your thoughts…..his Jalfrezi is a favourite of ours too……thanks Gaz - Jan x❤x. 👍🏻
Might give it a go, last week I tried ALDI liver and bacon with onions and gravey with mashed potato. Oven or microwave very impressed. All the best Gareth. Tim 😊
How do you feel about Thai or Chinese chicken? I'm trying to avoid non UK/EU chicken but it seems almost impossible now without cooking everything from scratch.
Usually do rice in microwave with the teaspoon of water to keep it Moist !!! Then curry for 1min or 2 and finish off in the oven with a nan and few chips or fries...
A great review m8. This will go great with a nan bread and some Bombay potatoes or Saag Aloo. I often refer it as the " British Curry " as it was created in Scotland, not India. At £2:49? That's good price. Most 'ready meals' are priced at about £3:50 these days. Sure? it could do with more chicken, but as I always pour it over my rice so that the sauce mixes in with the rice, that doesn't bother me too much. If I want to boost it up a bit? I steam off some cauliflower and broccoli and add that in the mix. But so long as it tastes great, well seasoned etc? I'm not going to complain. I know from your previous reviews? If you say it has a decent heat rating? Then it's got to be pretty good. Yeah? I still prefer to make my own curries. But sometimes it"s handy to have something to bung in the microwave if time is a factor. Would I buy this? Most certainly, get a couple for my freezer. My only criticism is the fact that the chicken comes from abroad. I would feel happier if our British farmers were being used and supported.
The chicken jalfrezi and rogan josh are my usual from that range ,after the first 3 minutes I cut the rice off and only do the curry for another 2 after stirring. Lovely little curries well worth it😉
I'm not usually a fan of these types of meals, but that really looked good. Nice chunks of chicken, a decent amount of sauce, and plenty of rice. I'll give it a go
That curry looked really tasty with a nice thick sauce. With a couple of onion barges and samosas that would be a good meal for anyone. Thanks for the review and I will get one when I go to Aldi. 👍

Love Aldi curries, and their naan bread is lovely too. When I have a curry I fry some onions to put on top and a side salad with mint sauce, very nice. Normally have chicken jalfezi or tikka masala, best ones ive tried ❤❤❤

Hi Gareth I buy the tikka masala that serves two... just for me of course. Hubby has the prawn .. and they're great. Loadsa chicken so far. Perhaps worth comparison
Hey Gareth, I know there a bit expensive but have you ever tried Tesco ready made meals? As a departure from the usual maybe worth a shot as of the variety from calorie conscious to the let's get it down varieties ? Curries maybe not so much but usually otherwise quality fair mate. 😉😃🤗 A
Gaz love, "Carry on Cooking", I'm sure you're better at cooking stuff up than you make out! I'll be going to Aldi on Friday, so will have a look for this, I can have it when i get back from the footie on Saturday.
Interesting -- usually you'd be safe in scoffing at a three-chili rating, and demoting it by one, but not this time. One of my local markets has a hot bar where you can get this sort of thing in takeaway containers, piping hot and sold by the pound (or kilo if you prefer). The nice thing is, it's all the same price, so you can add a scoop of roasted vegetables if you want, and that's what is missing here.
