I'm a big Apple user. iMac, Macbook, multiple iPads etc... I have the 12.9" 512 iPad pro, and have recently purchased the 12.3" Surface Pro i7 16GB with 1TB SSD. I am sad to say there is NO comparison between them. The Surface Pro is definitely a Ferrari, the iPad is a Ford Escort. Price difference? Sure, but when you are laying out and comparing Apples and (no I wont say it) Surfaces top ends, compare the top ends, not the high end of one and the mid-range of the other. Not saying I am getting rid of the rest of my Apple products, but I certainly wont be as biased for my next purchase.

I mean now I think the iPad stacks up a lot better for students and artists since the Apple pencil is so good, but anything past a student environment and the Surface looks a lot better
I don't know if this is an exact comparison, iPads really aren't meant to do majority-computer tasks. I always considered the surface pro more of a touch-screen computer than tablet.

Windows has an on-screen keyboard, you don't need it for a surface. However, it's well worth buying due to the cost. The iPad keyboard, on the other hand, is easily priced at double it's value.

Ipad pro is useless for school 1. I can’t print on my iPad 2. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and so on is limited. 3. I can’t save any documents 4. It doesn’t work with my course website. 5. Its missing a lot of laptop features such as ports.

In ios version, there is no digital rubber, you will have to select rubber from the top ribbon to erase something and again change back to pen
I honestly have used both of these devices, I have mostly used my surface because I honestly just love the more responsive, software it build in to it. I have ran into a few problems making the switch from the ipad to the surface, but it was worth the switch.
Austin, I've got to say I'm pretty disappointed with this review - I expected better from you rather then just reading the specs and calling it a day. As someone who sold his iPad Pro 9.7" for the New 2017 Surface Pro, both are phenomenal devices but the iPad can't replace your laptop - meaning its something you have to carry with you everyday if you do still require laptop capabilities which is why I sold it a long with my MacBook Pro. Now I just carry my Surface Pro, I can comfortably write a 5000 word thesis on the type cover, take hand-written notes with the new upgraded Surface Pen and then use it for some Desktop OS required software that my university requires me to do so. You also completely didn't mention anything but 3 seconds on the Apple Pencil vs Surface pen, the fact that the apple pencil only has 10 hours of battery life and an awkward charger while the Surface Pen has one year battery life and has an eraser built into the back, different color options, multi-purpose buttons etc This felt like a "I just want to post this title first on RUclips to get all the views before the others do" review.
+Big Mike I partially disagree. The Apple pencil is simply better when it comes to drawing stuff than the one which comes with SP. Sure, it has shorter battery life, but who really cares when you can use it for 2 hours for just 2 minutes of recharging? I tried them both at the store, but trust me, Apple Pencil, despite having only a millisecond of faster latency than Surface Pen, felt noticeably smoother(Probably due to iPad Pro's new 120Hz display). Surface Pen is better for note-taking because it has eraser on the back which serves multiple functions, but Apple Pen is superiour to it when it comes to drawing. I've already seen several professional artists drawing and posting some fantastic artworks on the internet.

Typing 5,000 words is a slow day for me, with all the new work I write and older works I edit, and I have no problem typing on the Smart Keyboard. I choose to have a thin and light profile over thicker, heavier options. I also take hand-written notes and sketch ideas with the Pencil. An eraser never made any sense to me. You have to turn the pen upside to erase. I click an on-screen button. I've never owned a Surface Pro, but I'm pretty sure it's just faster to tap on a button instead of physically flipping the pen around. Universities, infamously, use antiquated software. When I went to school (only four years ago), I couldn't even use macOS for a lot of my required programs. It's not a good thing that you can only use certain programs on Windows. Academia sets a terrible example for progression to its students in this way. However, this doesn't stop any industry from progressing, thankfully. I currently run my entire website from my iPad Pro. Everything created for my website is handled on my iPad Pro. Everything. I don't need a MacBook Pro. I don't need a Surface. I just need great software; creating websites and maintaining them through applications is infinitely better than using the web experience (but I could use the web experience if I chose to). So, again, speak for yourself. I'm done with school, so they don't restrict me like they used to. I can use my own apps to get my jobs done, and I do. you may need a Surface, and that's fine, but don't project your experience on everyone else.
The iPad is a tablet trying to be the best tablet in the world. The Surface is a...whatever, trying to be a PC that also does tablety things. So, you have to compare them based on their stated goals. The Surface is not a good PC and the iPad is the best tablet on the market. The Surface tries to compete on tablet grounds and fails; slower, not as convenient or easy to use, and more expensive. Which sells better? Better yet, when you want a bandage, you ask for a "Band-Aid." If talking about a cotton swab, the term used is "Q-Tip." When you reference petroleum jelly, you call it "Vaseline." Whenever anyone talks about tablets, they say, "iPad."
By far the biggest advantage the Surface has over the iPad is that it isn't limited by connectivity and software. It has a single USB port, sure, but since it isn't locked by OS restrictions, you can connect hubs that expand its versatility. Also, while very expensive, the maxed out models have so much processing power that can definitely replace a main computer for professional work.

The Surface is a really innovative device the runs both as a laptop and a tablet. The iPad is a bigger version of a crappy "we-didn't-think-out-of-the-box-for-this-one" design. To be honest, I don't think Apple even thought IN the box.

Muncha samsung markets the galaxy s8 as pc replacement as well..doesnt mean you are supposed to compare it to acers predator. its still a phone with some capabilities. i own the ipad 10.5 and it is a great machine. i use it for Uni, it replaced my notebooks. i was very afraid of the screen lag, but here its almost perfect. im also not rich person, so i wanted to invest one time and hope it will last at least 4 years, apple is known for lasting products.. heck, some of my friend still rock the iphone 4, yet my galaxy 1 was shit to begin with(they were launched same time+/-). same will happen with the surface in the long run.. because unless you have gaming laptop with good specs? all laptops get slower in 1-2 years. same with the surface. and thats a big issue for someone who uses it to write notes or paint (they sell it as tablet right?) because the screen lag,which is already worse than on ipad ,it will only get worse with time.making the writing experience a nightmare.
I have the top models of respectively the Surface 3 - 4 and now the surface pro. I got no idea what you are talking about, they all run butter smooth as when i got them. The pen feels exactly the same on screen on all of them. i would recommend the surface over the ipad any day of the week !

The keyboard for the ipad pro is just for people who prefer to type on a keyboard rather than a screen. The surface pro has a trackpad on theirs because it runs a desktop os.
I feel like the Ipad would be worth it if it was running Mac OS instead IOS. So what I mean was that ipad should use what Macbooks use. Considering the fact that Apple created the Ipad as a laptop replacements.
I’m currently using the iPad Pro 10.5” model; pretty good for videos, browsing, and ebooks, as well as taking notes & doing work-related tasks; I take it to work with me everyday, and using the Apple Pencil, it barely goes down to 50% of the battery after a night of full charging. The good thing about it is it’s easy to use & very fast; the advantage of the surface (although I’ve never used one) is that it’s a laptop & tablet, and can run apps / programs the iPad simply can’t. In the end, it depends on the user and what he / she needs.
Want to play league of legends? Want to hook up your 3d printer? Want to process raw images in Lightroom from your camera? Can't do that on an iPad. Austin should have discussed this difference for at least half of the video, because it's a lot more significant than any of the qualities mentioned.
Want to do illustrations? Oops, the iPad Pro is better. Want to watch anything look at anything, do anything? iPad has a much better screen. Want to use Affinity Photo or Lightroom or other apps? Yup, they are available on the iPad Pro. Try again.
Or... you could just use Procreate and Lightroom. That’s what I’ve been doing for the past year, despite having a high end workstation and Wacom tablet. Nothing beats the iPad Pro in this regard.

Droplight I think they're intentionally doing that to give their OEMs a head start into this 1 device to rule them all future. After all, why else would they back the Kickstarter project of an OEM, Eve, who's making the so-called "Surface Pro killer"? Microsoft made it clear during their Surface Pro 3 unveiling that they're not looking to eliminate their OEMs, they simply want the Surface line to be a benchmark of what the Windows platform can offer. OEMs are doing whatever they can to meet or exceed that benchmark, hence why you see loads of Surface clones nowadays from every OEM, with little changes here and there.
Just picked up the Surface Pro, I am amazed at how incredible it is. Works great with its built-in Windows 10. Combined with the Surface Pen and an Arc Mouse it is the best windows experience to date.
I picked up the iPad Pro 10.5”. It’s pretty overboard for me but it’s there just in case for the future as I just do simple stuff like watch RUclips, browse twitter, safari, music, iTunes movies, small games, camera.
Additionally, one of the BIGGEST disadvantages of iPad is that you cannot just create easily a folder and download there sth in Files cos it’s all restricted. You can just have Documents app (3rd party). Moreover, you also cannot copy sth onto iPad from PC just by connecting via USB (Usb-Lightning cable) as it’s all locked and u just get a folder with photos where copying is not allowed :)

Yeah I'd like to see that iPad run DaVinci Resolve. No matter how high the scores are on geekbench or other benchmarking apps, the iPad still uses the ARM architecture which has less than half of the instruction found on X86-64 chips.
I find that excel does work very well. I can create simple spreadsheets and formulas relatively quickly. It does have good functionality, however if you are in need of detailed work and spreadsheets then you can't beat a laptop for this. It is a great carry over tool to use if you needed a light quick access option on the go. This will serve well but creating more complex work for me is easier on the laptop, I do use the pad to update and add information. This is not really a problem and enjoy the hard work through laptop and editing and modifying on the iPad. Really happy I have got one and it serves many purposes. I honestly don't think there is necessarily a winner I use my iPad for drawing and graphic work and it is incredible and I already have a laptop so there wasn't a need for a Windows system it's mainly just preference and what the person wants out of the device although being able to run Photoshop is really nice the iPad has many good alternatives like procreate or Autodesk graphic, but yeah I think the decision is mainly just what you want out of the device
iloveselenagomez yeah iPad Pro has much better drawing capabilities than the surface though. Way better accuracy, pressure sensitivity, tilt function, latency, etc... being on a lightweight OS allows for much speedier performance in drawing.
For me, is how well I can draw on the tablet. I tried both the surface and ipad, while using the same programs: clip studio and photoshop. I notice a lot of lag and sometime problem with touch response when flipping or zooming the canvas on the surface while the ipad has perfect response. I notice the main reason for the problem on the surface was because of the performance settings. I adjust it and while it fixed the problem another arised and it was the battery life. With the I pad I could easily draw for 12 hours, while with a max performance surface it would only last 3 to 4 hours and I notice more heating on it too. All in all I decided to stick with the ipad even though I prefer using PC.

As someone that owns both I can say that the iPad is great for word processing, research for school, and general soft stuff. But when it’s time to actual hardcore work like coding, multiple monitors, etc then it’s Surface time.
what's the difference between a keyboardless laptop and a tablet with a keyboard exactly ? As far as i'm concerned , the surface pro does not ship with a keyboard in it's default configuration.
I thought about which one I wanted to buy, and ultimately decided to go with the iPad Pro. I talked to a few people who have the Surface and they said it doesn't last as long and it slows down really fast. For that amount of money, I would expect it to last at least 4 years, but from what I heard, the Surface will last you about a year. If it wasn't for that, I would have definitely went with the Surface because I feel like there are more pros then cons but that is a BIG con.

Die hard Mac user. Got the Surface Pro, usr it as my dedicated work computer and I love it. The loop for the Pen should have been included and the typeover with the Fingerprint scanner was expensive but it was worth it

iPad pro is still just an iPad, I purchased it and I honestly ended up giving it to my 11 year old. Ended up purchasing the new MacBook Pro 2016 then and handing down to my 13year old my older MacBook Pro 2014. Honestly MacBook Pros are the device I love the most! The user experience is excellent, beautiful display. The only thing I don't like as much in the newer MacBook Pro version is the keypad, I like the older version's best, it felt more comfortable to type. I am planning on upgrading my 13 inch MacBook Pro w touch bar to the 15 inch MacBook Pro largest memory because I miss having a bigger laptop and I am planning to use it more for designing and things like that.

Maybe because it has a far better screen, is much faster, has a more touch-optimised OS, has much better battery life, way way better GPU for games, an App Store with millions of apps, much better Pencil input with way faster refresh rates, supports Office, all for a lower price. Why do people even debate - look at the specs/hardware/software/OS then decide which one fits you best. There is no right/wrong answer. Every user is different. I bought Ipad pro because it fitted what I wanted to do, best. I wanted to use it to make/record/play music, as a portable device. I use it to record demos at home, and also playing shows/gigs. But if I wanted to, say, have something that was more of an all-rounder - something to watch movies, surf the net, and also use in an office at work - I would have probably got surface. There is no right/wrong answer. There is no debate. Just decide what you want to use it for, then decide which one fits that purpose best!
Hey... the surface is significantly faster as geek bench does not take into account the system architecture, the i pad has a mobile ARM type as the surface has a nehalem type, which is a hell of a lot faster as it has external ram
you realize that OS X did that for decades too. You're missing the point of the iPad. The iPad is a tablet. Forgive me if Im wrong, but I don't think "windows tablets did that for decades." Im pretty sure they didn't even exist. Yes, you're not going to do the same thing on a tablet that you will do on a software optimized for desk top computing. Sadly, I think the surface is not as good of a lap top as it could be, and its not as good of a tablet as it could be. Its a hybrid.
But on Windows you can switch between Desktop Mode and Tablet Mode. When you have keyboard connected or even a mouse you switch to Desktop Mode and you have a full laptop. When you unplug it you switch to Tablet Mode.

That's an i5 with 8gb ram. If Surface went to sell 1 option configuration they would most probably went with i7 Intel dual-core processor 16gb of RAM with 1TB SSD, which would be much faster than a10x chip, but Surface gives people a choice, unlike Apple. P.S Don't bring gaming in to this cause, well WE DEFINITELY LIKE MCPE AND NEED FOR SPEED NO LIMITS. Great quality games. But at the end both are great devices but Surface would be my choice.

How about getting both? I bought the iPad Pro 10.5 AND the Surface Pro. Before, I used to have the 2015 iPad Pro 12.9 and the Surface Pro 4. Love both of them.
The Surface Pro uses an x86 CPU The iPad uses an ARM CPU x86 has a lot more IPC than ARM CPUs. If you're a professional, you're gonna have to go with the x86
Fatal_Taco this makes absolutely no sense. ISA DOESN'T define IPC. for a simple fact, any modern ARM core has significantly higher ipc than the pentium 4, pentium, 486 etc), which are all x86. You have to consider micro architecture
Depends heavily. Though the ARM CPU can outperform the x86 chip in select tasks, x86 wins overall. Apple's iPad is strong and efficient, but heavily limited on what it can do. Intel's x86 may be weaker but due to the nature of x86, it does a hell lot more than ARM. A simple demonstrator for this is multitasking. You can have virtually infinite amounts of programs running simultaneously side by side on x86. On ARM, they can only run at most two.
I call BS on that statement. The CPU doesn't really have much bearing on the # of apps you can have in memory - memory does (duh!). And while some models of the Surface have more built-in memory, iOS is much more memory efficient: -Apps in the background get frozen to the SSD, so they don't use any RAM -The core OS itself uses less memory -All resources gets pooled to the frontmost apps in use. No memory is wasted on apps in the background. -Apps are are designed to work with it, much like a game on a games console.

Windows has been able to do that way before Windows 95. If you want to get work done a Surface beats an iPad anything any day of the week. iPads are for consuming content not creating unless it's real basic stuff or you're updating files.
I'm a Windows user but come on guys, OS X was able to do that for a long long time, too! The difference is that iOS is a mobile operating system while Windows is not. OS X is the OS that can be compared to Windows, not iOS imho.
You are gonna want to get the surface since they are similarly priced. It seems like a no brainier to me Surface runs a full windows 10 which has both a desktop and tablet interface you can switch between. You get full x86 applications including PC games from steam in comparison to mobile apps/games which just aren't up to par. You get a keyboard with an actual trackpad and backlighting, there's ports to connect devices/peripherals and has a kickstand built in. If you really want an iPad as a laptop replacement the $329 one + adding a third party keyboard makes a lot more sense, it will do 99 percent of what the pro can do. But once you starting getting to the $800+ range getting something that runs a full desktop os should be the priority, what can you do on an iPad pro that a surface can't do or do better?
I can attest to that having used jailbroken iPhones for over half a decade. The iOS updates are literally a planned obsolescence. Unlike any other platform, you can't revert to a previous version of the OS that worked for you if you don't like the latest. You either deal with the miserable performance in the new OS, or you cough up more cash and buy a new device. Always avoided updates for several months or even a year until I was certain it brought no performance degradation, or there was some hack to revert to the earlier OS.
This is the most important comment and point on this video. Everybody should read this and take it into consideration. I switched to Apple when they came out with the iPhone 3GS and equally purchased a MacBook Pro from 2010 - still my computer which I'm typing on now. I got a Surface when they first came out because Steve Jobs refused to integrate the OS into a tablet form or make a touch screen laptop. Since his passing, it's as if Apple is trying to uphold an obsolete idea. My Surface works very well still, but lacks the newer features, as they have greatly evolved with the times. Apple is still stuck in Jobs-era thought, which is creepy and bizarre, and I am looking to jump back out of the Apple bubble (including phones) solely because of their stubborn and unjustifiable thinking.
I have a SP3, I know it's old but I love it. I wouldn't trade it for an iPad Pro even though the iPad has more processing power according to benchmarks.
Asen, girl, it's true. Try drawing on an iPad Pro 2017 vs drawing on a Surface Pro 2017. Microsoft claims 21ms latency but the pen is only as fast as the software will allow it to be. The drawing software on iPad is so well optimized that it feels like there is 0 latency. While Surface still lags behind because it is forced to use bloated desktop software and Windows OS.

I'm a big Apple user. iMac, Macbook, multiple iPads etc... I have the 12.9" 512 iPad pro, and have recently purchased the 12.3" Surface Pro i7 16GB with 1TB SSD. I am sad to say there is NO comparison between them. The Surface Pro is definitely a Ferrari, the iPad is a Ford Escort. Price difference? Sure, but when you are laying out and comparing Apples and (no I wont say it) Surfaces top ends, compare the top ends, not the high end of one and the mid-range of the other. Not saying I am getting rid of the rest of my Apple products, but I certainly wont be as biased for my next purchase.

I honestly have used both of these devices, I have mostly used my surface because I honestly just love the more responsive, software it build in to it. I have ran into a few problems making the switch from the ipad to the surface, but it was worth the switch.
Austin, I've got to say I'm pretty disappointed with this review - I expected better from you rather then just reading the specs and calling it a day.
As someone who sold his iPad Pro 9.7" for the New 2017 Surface Pro, both are phenomenal devices but the iPad can't replace your laptop - meaning its something you have to carry with you everyday if you do still require laptop capabilities which is why I sold it a long with my MacBook Pro. Now I just carry my Surface Pro, I can comfortably write a 5000 word thesis on the type cover, take hand-written notes with the new upgraded Surface Pen and then use it for some Desktop OS required software that my university requires me to do so.
You also completely didn't mention anything but 3 seconds on the Apple Pencil vs Surface pen, the fact that the apple pencil only has 10 hours of battery life and an awkward charger while the Surface Pen has one year battery life and has an eraser built into the back, different color options, multi-purpose buttons etc

+Big Mike I partially disagree. The Apple pencil is simply better when it comes to drawing stuff than the one which comes with SP. Sure, it has shorter battery life, but who really cares when you can use it for 2 hours for just 2 minutes of recharging? I tried them both at the store, but trust me, Apple Pencil, despite having only a millisecond of faster latency than Surface Pen, felt noticeably smoother(Probably due to iPad Pro's new 120Hz display). Surface Pen is better for note-taking because it has eraser on the back which serves multiple functions, but Apple Pen is superiour to it when it comes to drawing. I've already seen several professional artists drawing and posting some fantastic artworks on the internet.

Typing 5,000 words is a slow day for me, with all the new work I write and older works I edit, and I have no problem typing on the Smart Keyboard. I choose to have a thin and light profile over thicker, heavier options.
I also take hand-written notes and sketch ideas with the Pencil. An eraser never made any sense to me. You have to turn the pen upside to erase. I click an on-screen button. I've never owned a Surface Pro, but I'm pretty sure it's just faster to tap on a button instead of physically flipping the pen around.
Universities, infamously, use antiquated software. When I went to school (only four years ago), I couldn't even use macOS for a lot of my required programs. It's not a good thing that you can only use certain programs on Windows. Academia sets a terrible example for progression to its students in this way.
However, this doesn't stop any industry from progressing, thankfully. I currently run my entire website from my iPad Pro. Everything created for my website is handled on my iPad Pro. Everything. I don't need a MacBook Pro. I don't need a Surface. I just need great software; creating websites and maintaining them through applications is infinitely better than using the web experience (but I could use the web experience if I chose to).
So, again, speak for yourself. I'm done with school, so they don't restrict me like they used to. I can use my own apps to get my jobs done, and I do. you may need a Surface, and that's fine, but don't project your experience on everyone else.

By far the biggest advantage the Surface has over the iPad is that it isn't limited by connectivity and software. It has a single USB port, sure, but since it isn't locked by OS restrictions, you can connect hubs that expand its versatility. Also, while very expensive, the maxed out models have so much processing power that can definitely replace a main computer for professional work.

i own the ipad 10.5 and it is a great machine. i use it for Uni, it replaced my notebooks. i was very afraid of the screen lag, but here its almost perfect.
im also not rich person, so i wanted to invest one time and hope it will last at least 4 years, apple is known for lasting products.. heck, some of my friend still rock the iphone 4, yet my galaxy 1 was shit to begin with(they were launched same time+/-).
same will happen with the surface in the long run.. because unless you have gaming laptop with good specs? all laptops get slower in 1-2 years. same with the surface. and thats a big issue for someone who uses it to write notes or paint (they sell it as tablet right?) because the screen lag,which is already worse than on ipad ,it will only get worse with time.making the writing experience a nightmare.
I have the top models of respectively the Surface 3 - 4 and now the surface pro. I got no idea what you are talking about, they all run butter smooth as when i got them. The pen feels exactly the same on screen on all of them. i would recommend the surface over the ipad any day of the week !

I’m currently using the iPad Pro 10.5” model; pretty good for videos, browsing, and ebooks, as well as taking notes & doing work-related tasks; I take it to work with me everyday, and using the Apple Pencil, it barely goes down to 50% of the battery after a night of full charging.
The good thing about it is it’s easy to use & very fast; the advantage of the surface (although I’ve never used one) is that it’s a laptop & tablet, and can run apps / programs the iPad simply can’t.
In the end, it depends on the user and what he / she needs.
Want to play league of legends? Want to hook up your 3d printer? Want to process raw images in Lightroom from your camera? Can't do that on an iPad.
Austin should have discussed this difference for at least half of the video, because it's a lot more significant than any of the qualities mentioned.

Droplight I think they're intentionally doing that to give their OEMs a head start into this 1 device to rule them all future. After all, why else would they back the Kickstarter project of an OEM, Eve, who's making the so-called "Surface Pro killer"? Microsoft made it clear during their Surface Pro 3 unveiling that they're not looking to eliminate their OEMs, they simply want the Surface line to be a benchmark of what the Windows platform can offer. OEMs are doing whatever they can to meet or exceed that benchmark, hence why you see loads of Surface clones nowadays from every OEM, with little changes here and there.

Additionally, one of the BIGGEST disadvantages of iPad is that you cannot just create easily a folder and download there sth in Files cos it’s all restricted. You can just have Documents app (3rd party).
Moreover, you also cannot copy sth onto iPad from PC just by connecting via USB (Usb-Lightning cable) as it’s all locked and u just get a folder with photos where copying is not allowed :)

Yeah I'd like to see that iPad run DaVinci Resolve. No matter how high the scores are on geekbench or other benchmarking apps, the iPad still uses the ARM architecture which has less than half of the instruction found on X86-64 chips.
I find that excel does work very well. I can create simple spreadsheets and formulas relatively quickly. It does have good functionality, however if you are in need of detailed work and spreadsheets then you can't beat a laptop for this. It is a great carry over tool to use if you needed a light quick access option on the go. This will serve well but creating more complex work for me is easier on the laptop, I do use the pad to update and add information. This is not really a problem and enjoy the hard work through laptop and editing and modifying on the iPad. Really happy I have got one and it serves many purposes. Thanks and enjoy.... what a machine!

I honestly don't think there is necessarily a winner I use my iPad for drawing and graphic work and it is incredible and I already have a laptop so there wasn't a need for a Windows system it's mainly just preference and what the person wants out of the device although being able to run Photoshop is really nice the iPad has many good alternatives like procreate or Autodesk graphic, but yeah I think the decision is mainly just what you want out of the device

For me, is how well I can draw on the tablet.
I tried both the surface and ipad, while using the same programs: clip studio and photoshop.
I notice a lot of lag and sometime problem with touch response when flipping or zooming the canvas on the surface while the ipad has perfect response.
I notice the main reason for the problem on the surface was because of the performance settings. I adjust it and while it fixed the problem another arised and it was the battery life.
With the I pad I could easily draw for 12 hours, while with a max performance surface it would only last 3 to 4 hours and I notice more heating on it too.
All in all I decided to stick with the ipad even though I prefer using PC.

As someone that owns both I can say that the iPad is great for word processing, research for school, and general soft stuff. But when it’s time to actual hardcore work like coding, multiple monitors, etc then it’s Surface time.

I bought an iPad 2017 and a cheap keyboard cover off Amazon. Quite an amazing setup and power with iOS 11 and well under $400.
I thought about which one I wanted to buy, and ultimately decided to go with the iPad Pro. I talked to a few people who have the Surface and they said it doesn't last as long and it slows down really fast. For that amount of money, I would expect it to last at least 4 years, but from what I heard, the Surface will last you about a year. If it wasn't for that, I would have definitely went with the Surface because I feel like there are more pros then cons but that is a BIG con.

iPad pro is still just an iPad, I purchased it and I honestly ended up giving it to my 11 year old. Ended up purchasing the new MacBook Pro 2016 then and handing down to my 13year old my older MacBook Pro 2014. Honestly MacBook Pros are the device I love the most! The user experience is excellent, beautiful display. The only thing I don't like as much in the newer MacBook Pro version is the keypad, I like the older version's best, it felt more comfortable to type. I am planning on upgrading my 13 inch MacBook Pro w touch bar to the 15 inch MacBook Pro largest memory because I miss having a bigger laptop and I am planning to use it more for designing and things like that.

Why do people even debate - look at the specs/hardware/software/OS then decide which one fits you best. There is no right/wrong answer. Every user is different.
I bought Ipad pro because it fitted what I wanted to do, best. I wanted to use it to make/record/play music, as a portable device. I use it to record demos at home, and also playing shows/gigs.
But if I wanted to, say, have something that was more of an all-rounder - something to watch movies, surf the net, and also use in an office at work - I would have probably got surface.
There is no right/wrong answer. There is no debate. Just decide what you want to use it for, then decide which one fits that purpose best!
Hey... the surface is significantly faster as geek bench does not take into account the system architecture, the i pad has a mobile ARM type as the surface has a nehalem type, which is a hell of a lot faster as it has external ram

you realize that OS X did that for decades too. You're missing the point of the iPad. The iPad is a tablet. Forgive me if Im wrong, but I don't think "windows tablets did that for decades." Im pretty sure they didn't even exist. Yes, you're not going to do the same thing on a tablet that you will do on a software optimized for desk top computing. Sadly, I think the surface is not as good of a lap top as it could be, and its not as good of a tablet as it could be. Its a hybrid.
But on Windows you can switch between Desktop Mode and Tablet Mode. When you have keyboard connected or even a mouse you switch to Desktop Mode and you have a full laptop. When you unplug it you switch to Tablet Mode.

That's an i5 with 8gb ram. If Surface went to sell 1 option configuration they would most probably went with i7 Intel dual-core processor 16gb of RAM with 1TB SSD, which would be much faster than a10x chip, but Surface gives people a choice, unlike Apple.
P.S Don't bring gaming in to this cause, well WE DEFINITELY LIKE MCPE AND NEED FOR SPEED NO LIMITS. Great quality games.

I have an ipad pro 12.9 but also own a windows pc. I think if you own a desktop/laptop of any kind then go for the ipad. If you're looking for a pure desktop replacement then go for the surface pro.

Apple's iPad is strong and efficient, but heavily limited on what it can do. Intel's x86 may be weaker but due to the nature of x86, it does a hell lot more than ARM.
A simple demonstrator for this is multitasking. You can have virtually infinite amounts of programs running simultaneously side by side on x86. On ARM, they can only run at most two.

I call BS on that statement. The CPU doesn't really have much bearing on the # of apps you can have in memory - memory does (duh!). And while some models of the Surface have more built-in memory, iOS is much more memory efficient:
-Apps in the background get frozen to the SSD, so they don't use any RAM
-The core OS itself uses less memory
-All resources gets pooled to the frontmost apps in use. No memory is wasted on apps in the background.
-Apps are are designed to work with it, much like a game on a games console.

I'm a Windows user but come on guys, OS X was able to do that for a long long time, too! The difference is that iOS is a mobile operating system while Windows is not. OS X is the OS that can be compared to Windows, not iOS imho.

Surface runs a full windows 10 which has both a desktop and tablet interface you can switch between. You get full x86 applications including PC games from steam in comparison to mobile apps/games which just aren't up to par. You get a keyboard with an actual trackpad and backlighting, there's ports to connect devices/peripherals and has a kickstand built in.
If you really want an iPad as a laptop replacement the $329 one + adding a third party keyboard makes a lot more sense, it will do 99 percent of what the pro can do. But once you starting getting to the $800+ range getting something that runs a full desktop os should be the priority, what can you do on an iPad pro that a surface can't do or do better?

I can attest to that having used jailbroken iPhones for over half a decade. The iOS updates are literally a planned obsolescence. Unlike any other platform, you can't revert to a previous version of the OS that worked for you if you don't like the latest. You either deal with the miserable performance in the new OS, or you cough up more cash and buy a new device.
Always avoided updates for several months or even a year until I was certain it brought no performance degradation, or there was some hack to revert to the earlier OS.

I switched to Apple when they came out with the iPhone 3GS and equally purchased a MacBook Pro from 2010 - still my computer which I'm typing on now. I got a Surface when they first came out because Steve Jobs refused to integrate the OS into a tablet form or make a touch screen laptop. Since his passing, it's as if Apple is trying to uphold an obsolete idea. My Surface works very well still, but lacks the newer features, as they have greatly evolved with the times. Apple is still stuck in Jobs-era thought, which is creepy and bizarre, and I am looking to jump back out of the Apple bubble (including phones) solely because of their stubborn and unjustifiable thinking.

Asen, girl, it's true. Try drawing on an iPad Pro 2017 vs drawing on a Surface Pro 2017. Microsoft claims 21ms latency but the pen is only as fast as the software will allow it to be. The drawing software on iPad is so well optimized that it feels like there is 0 latency. While Surface still lags behind because it is forced to use bloated desktop software and Windows OS.
