She used a large black pot placed over a fire. She made old school lye soap and large batches for the family and her friends.

Just ensure that the water amount used is 3x the lye amount by weight. Here's a recent tallow soap recipe I shared: lovelygreens.com/simple-tallow-soap-recipe/

I can tell you are more of a cold process soaper!! You know you don't need to cool the lye solution with hot process soap? you only do that with cold process. I just dissolve lye and chuck it in the melted oils, absolutely not necessary. You also don't need to go in at an angle with the stick blender as you are cooking soap that is another CP tip, but not for HP as you are stirring it whilst it cooks a few times. You also don't need to cool it down before adding yoghurt and EO that is a bit of a myth in the HP soapmaking world. Great video btw and the soap looks fab! (it also 'should' be cured the same length of time you would CP soap which is 4-6 weeks and of course it will improve with age) I did CP for about 2 years but much prefer HP and have been doing that for about 5 years, so much easier and I you don't have to worry about soda ash or soap batter seizing etc.

@@dr.bijaykumarparida7321 no quality difference it is more of a personal preference. HP soap still needs the same amount of cure time as CP. Yes you can make 100% olive oil soap HP, in fact I did it about 8 weeks ago at very high temps with a very steep water discount and I am testing it monthly to see if it improves as other soapmakers more experienced than me say that it doesn't need the long 6-12 month cure time of normal Castile. It does have a different feel to it and can be a bit 'slimy' again that is open to debate. Hiya, cold-process, and hot-process are just two different ways to make a soap recipe. Yes, you can use the recipe, but make it using the cold-process method 👍 For cold process, use less water, though - 2x the amount of lye by weight. You can omit the yoghurt or stir it with a little water (1 TBSP) and add at trace.
Hi. I just tried doing this today, however when I tested the pH level, it is in between 12 and 14, do you know the ways on how to neutralize it ? If that is the term. It is also itchy if it touches my skin. Can you help me?
You've likely made a mistake in measuring ingredients or it could be batteries going low on your scale. Sorry, no way to "neutralize" it, but there are methods to transform it into laundry soap.
Awesome I really love watching your gardening and Hot Process Soap it’s so elegant. Can I request for 3000 grams Hot Process soap recipe for Aleppo soaps?
You can but would need to run the recipe through the soap calculator again to get a new lye amount. It will change slightly if you change any of the oils or their quantities.
I really enjoyed watching your video and will check out some of your other ones. I've always thought I would like to try this. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us.
Which of these two soaps: HOT or COLD, does the customer like more? Who has the greater advantage? Which of the two gives us more value for the final product?
Dear lovely greens ,hi,you didn’t mention the weights of olive oil and caster oil and what 2 butter oil you put ,please can write step by step the full recipe with weight can I get your recipe with full ingredients, how much other things I mean sodium hydroxide,is sodium hydroxide is Caustic soda mpp
Hi Tanya thank you for sharing this video. I have a question if you could please help me with it ,I tried yesterday to do hot process following your procedure but I have used just olive oil however it still vasilliny and from inside just for shard crust from top? Do you thing I need to wait long for it to harden since I used just olive oil?
Hot process soap can get crusty on the top because of heat and moisture loss. Keeping a tight lid on, and stirring, helps to stop that from happening. It's not the end of the world though, and is still good soap.
Thank you so much for this recipe!! Can I exchange the yogurt for anything else? I would love to 'veganise' the soap - would e.g. Soya yogurt or coconut milk work the same way? Thank you!
Yes, those ingredients, water, or herbal infusions can do at that point. They may not add creaminess to the soap, but a vegan alternative will make the soap batter more fluid and easier to work with in a similar way to yogurt.
On it's own, yes, it is hazardous. It goes through a chemical change when you mix it with lipids though, and transforms into natural soap. All soap is made with lye, and sodium hydroxide is the main form of lye. However, after the cook in the slow cooker theres zero sodium hydroxide left in the soap. It's all been used up.
Do you ever infuse your own oils? I infused oil with frankincense but the fragrance didn’t come through the finished product using the CP method. I’m wondering if using the HP method and adding the fragrance at the end like you did might help
Infused oils will never give you the kind of scent you're after in soap. They're used to create color and potentially skin benefit. Essential oils are used for scent and are much different. They're highly concentrated volatile plant oil take far more plant material to make.
@@Lovelygreens I debate using essential oils because of the cost and the clash with expensive perfumes. Do I want to muddle the scent of a $90 bottle of perfume?
After you make hot process soap in the slow cooker, can you clean and use the cooker as normal after wards or do you need a specific cooker for soap making only?
Tanya, do you keep your bowls, crock pot and stick blender specific for soap.making? I was just wondering if after cleaning if they could be used for food prep.
Crockpot no, but anything plastic yes. Lye isn't the issue though -- it's essential oils. There's no lye left on any plastic, metal, or glass after use but essential oils have a tendency to seep into porous materials.
You could do, but I'm not a fan of using soap on hair. I've yet to find one that doesn't turn my hair into a bird's nest 😂 The shampoo bars that folks use and love tend to be solid detergents (not soap)
Great Video! What's the brand of the fragrance oil you used? I noticed when I use pure essential oils its not as strong on the fragrance end. I would imagine fragrance oil would be the way to go as it uses synthetics and natural essential oils together
Do you need to keep all of your soap making equipment separate (i.e. slow cooker, immersion blender, spatula, etc), or is it safe to use the same equipment - after you wash it, of course - for making food that you eat?
Does the benfit of the oils like vitamines ext damage because we warm them ? I buy all my oils organic, and they are cold thy,Arent they ruined? Tanke u
Tanya, I don't understand why you add superfat before the cook is completed to ensure your sf remains? In the US it is taught to do it just before the yogurt after Vaseline stage.
You can do it either way Norine, and if you do add it later, you will ensure that the mango butter is 100% of the superfat. However, for beginners I feel that it's easier to do steps earlier than later. Less of a chance to forget to put ingredients in, which is a common mistake.
ok lovely greens, i m attempting to hot process today, i have always used CP for years, so itoday im braving the seaven seas of HP soap making. I have 1 question though, just about every video i have seen on HP on youtube, the hobbyist throws in a chunk of superfat after the saponification is completed. SO my Big question is how much superfat do i add at the end? all of the lye and fragrance cals i use do have superfatting levels usually 5% - I USUALLY GO 6% BUT NOTHING IS MENTIONED about putting a chunk in later. is this a tip ? please explain, thanks!!
One of the great bonuses of hot process soap making is controlling the exact type of oil that becomes the superfat. Because saponification isn't complete in CP until about 48 hours after making it, the end superfat can be a mixture of all of the oils you used. In HP, you can add a specific oil after the cook and the superfat will be that particular oil with assurance. To answer your question, you can add 40g of the mango butter in the recipe (pre-melted) just after the cook if you wish. That will ensure that the superfat will be mango butter, alone. When adding it before the cook, as I show, the superfat will still be mainly mango butter, but likely not 100%. I did it this way because I've had many people contact me over the years saying that they'd forgotten to put an oil in their recipe and asking if the soap will still be okay to use. Getting all of the base oils in early in the process is better for beginners, the folks that I've geared this recipe for. In fact, all of the base oils could go in at the same time in the beginning, and that saves a step. In that case, the superfat will be a combination of all the oils used (rather than mainly mango butter) and reflects how I instruct my beginner CP recipes. I rarely instruct folks to add the superfat after trace on lovelygreens.com. So many things are happening at trace in CP that it's easy to forget something.
@Lovely Greens awesome answer, but I still have a question, how much of SuperFat can I add after the cook? As much as I want? You mentioned 40g ,is that a normal addon? Or can one add more as desired? Is it preference? Thanks again!
By the way I made my first batch of hp soap yesterday, eh,it went so so. I don't like the chunks of soap stuck on edges which made for clumpy soap once I dalloped it in the tray. I left in 30 minutes without disturbing plus an additional 15 min and it still wasn't on vaseline stage. I was forced to mix it and that's when the clumps started. I had it on low, perhaps leave on hi for 30-45? The total cook time was about 1.5 hrs included mixing.its a good crockpot not broke. I did turn off at one point and maybe that's why it took longer to get to operating temperature? Dunno I'll keep trying and figuring out what went wrong.
The way she scrapes them bowls... She leaves nothing behind. I already like her🙂

@@Lovelygreens YEEESSSSS THANK YOU
Tanya, I’m late to the game I’m soap making. Can you use this hot process soap in cold process soap? Thanks!
Wonderful video thank you so much. Can I use olive oil only instead of all the other oils? I'm trying to make an olive oil bar.
Thank you❣️ This was very helpful.
Loved the video
Tanke u,me dana, from from the middle east, good we have youtube!☺️
Awesome I really love watching your gardening and Hot Process Soap it’s so elegant. Can I request for 3000 grams Hot Process soap recipe for Aleppo soaps?
Im relly exicted, thanks so much maam, pls how many days should i use hot prosses?
Great .ths lady so much
Can you substitute the mango butter for any other hard butter like shea, cocoa or tallow? Cheers for the amazing video x
You can but would need to run the recipe through the soap calculator again to get a new lye amount. It will change slightly if you change any of the oils or their quantities.
this is fascinating
Thank you for the video
Awesome. Can deionized or spring water be used instead of distilled water?
I really enjoyed watching your video and will check out some of your other ones. I've always thought I would like to try this. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us.
Which of these two soaps: HOT or COLD, does the customer like more? Who has the greater advantage? Which of the two gives us more value for the final product?
Lovely smile 🙏 Happy 2021.🌹
can you tell me the name of the song and artist of the music you are playing?
Dear lovely greens ,hi,you didn’t mention the weights of olive oil and caster oil and what 2 butter oil you put ,please can write step by step the full recipe with weight can I get your recipe with full ingredients, how much other things I mean sodium hydroxide,is sodium hydroxide is Caustic soda mpp
The full recipe is already in a printable format here: lovelygreens.com/simple-moisturizing-hot-process-soap-recipe/
Good stuff, but quick question? Isn't sodium hydroxide hazardous? Is it bad for the skin?
On it's own, yes, it is hazardous. It goes through a chemical change when you mix it with lipids though, and transforms into natural soap. All soap is made with lye, and sodium hydroxide is the main form of lye. However, after the cook in the slow cooker theres zero sodium hydroxide left in the soap. It's all been used up.
@@Lovelygreens thank you for your reply, you wouldn't have thought I took chemistry at school!
Can we use the soap made by hot process the same day
Very interesting video. Can I ask a silly question. In making homemade soaps hot/cold process how long is the use by date ..
The shelf life of the soap is the closest best-by date of the ingredients you used. If one expires next month, so does your soap.
Only ever use it for soap :)
Yes you can! It’s soap! Wash thoroughly and use as normal.
Hello, Tanya. This soap can be used also as a shampoo bar? Thank you for this video!
You can make virtually any cold-process soap recipe using the hot-process method
@@Lovelygreens Thank you for the answer. :) I was wondering if it is ok also to wash my hair with this soap ?
Best to keep your soapmaking utensils separate. I bought all of mine from opshops (thrift).
Can the soap be poured into individual soap molds instead of loaf?
nice Vedio. Tks
Nice ❤
Can this be done on the stove top?
Well done and very good to follow. Thank you. But I wonder what happened to the bananas in the back 😁
Let me put your mind at rest -- we ate them.
Does the benfit of the oils like vitamines ext damage because we warm them ? I buy all my oils organic, and they are cold thy,Arent they ruined? Tanke u
What temperature do you set the Crock-Pot at? Low? High?
Hi. What is a solid oil? Trying to find out as much as I can before attempting soap making.
It's an oil that's solid at room temperature. For example, coconut oil
How to buy this boiler
Tanya, I don't understand why you add superfat before the cook is completed to ensure your sf remains? In the US it is taught to do it just before the yogurt after Vaseline stage.
You can do it either way Norine, and if you do add it later, you will ensure that the mango butter is 100% of the superfat. However, for beginners I feel that it's easier to do steps earlier than later. Less of a chance to forget to put ingredients in, which is a common mistake.
Hi! Can I make hot process soap on COOKING GAS STOVE?
ok lovely greens, i m attempting to hot process today, i have always used CP for years, so itoday im braving the seaven seas of HP soap making.
Good morning my soap is perfect one problem I have what can I buy a what can I do to speed up the process of drying my soap
