      The correct way to make a black and white photo is to go into photoshop and change the image's mode to grayscale. If you don't do this the image, even if it appears black and white, still retains all the colour channels, and as such you can still get charged for it being colour because anything "white" could signify white ink and not null space (though this is a rare occurrence as this kind of error happens frequently and printers are aware of it). However it still retains all the colour information, and therefore the file size will also be affected.

      @@FablestoneSeries Again, a lot of people (including me) don't have photoshop, so this often isn't an option. I think it's important to share I've published almost 20 different physical versions of books with my author photo in black and white from canva, and I've NEVER had an issue, and NEVER been charged for color.

    • @FablestoneSeries
      @FablestoneSeries Год назад

      @@BethanyAtazadeh I couldn't count the number of things i've printed. It is rare anyone has an issue anymore because most printers have created software safety measures to guard against this issue because it was once upon a time such a common mistake, but the data is all still there. It is most often noticed when you start printing on non white paper. If you haven't saved your file in 8 bit grayscale format all the colour information is still there, it just isn't being used, therefore it is taking up unnecessary file size too. You should be able to save it into grayscale mode in any image software, not just photoshop. Photoshop is a subscription only service now. But there are free alternatives out there. You could easily do an entire video deep dive into all the finicky things people should know about image resizing in order to retain natural resolution (where there is no pixel blurring).

    Appreciate it! I'm writing a light novel in Ulysses which uses Markup type text, but it seems that ultimately I'll have to use Word in the end for formatting photos and what not. Great explanations on the bleed feature! I've done that with Photoshop and posters but never thought about it with books.

    Hi,
    Is the Proof Copy the same as an author's copy?

  • @theintrovertedaspie9095

    I plan on putting images in my book debut. Im something of an artist myself. I wouldn't say professional but I think my illustrations are good for what they are. There main reason I want to do this is to maximize my page count as much as possible. Its word count is somewhere in the 23,000 range. This put it at like 58.8 pages which is may too low for me. I want it to be 100 or so pages at least. Thats also lower than I originally intended as I wanted like 200 something or 300 something pages.
