Thanks so much Bethany! I am writing my first novel series and I'm super excited about it!! Its gonna be YA Romance but more like fall vibes and cozy you know?
Thanks for this Bethany, I have seen people advicing against using Times new roman but I have been using it and never had a problem with it and I have had friends who use it and I have been able to read it no problem.
Thank you so much, Bethany! I just started watching your videos about formatting! I'm currently working on a series of mystery novels. Your videos are super informative and helpful!
thank you for the information. I do have a question: do authors usually choose a font and stick with it for all their books? or is that more for books in a series?
Honestly, I think it depends on the author/publisher, but I'd bet that a lot do just to keep things simple/easier. There's no rule to follow in this area that I'm aware of.
I am currently using the templates you mentioned in this video to write my novel. Are the fonts used in the template free of copyright? Or will i have to purchase them somehow? Many thanks :) Love your videos btw!
Thank you. I am still concerned about bleeding. Does the picture get cut a little in production? I'm making a picture book and it really matters to me.
Hi Bethany. I really like these videos but I use Atticus and get the same results. It does look like your software is very good. It is a very important subject though there are slightly different rules when you are writing for kids.,such as the font size which can be bigger and the spacing can be different. By kids, I am referring to the under-13's. But I am following your series.
Glad to hear Atticus is working well, I've heard good things! And I'm actually currently updating my books to have a bigger font size, funny you mention it, but I came to that same conclusion haha - I don't remember what I was thinking back then, maybe just wanted the books to be cheaper for readers aka smaller/less pages to print.
Can you also upload a video for the format like prologue then the table of contents and all the others in order. It could really help😊. I wanna publish my book and I’m only 12 so I need help plz!
I'm not sure if this has been covered, but what's your advice on when to implement these formatting rules? After a draft is complete or at the start of a new WIP? Thank you!
I think it's personal preference. Some authors wait to format until the book is done, but I personally enjoy writing in a pre-formatted template because it feels more like an official book already, so it's up to you!
I had modified my header to my style for chapters. I had it set up to leave a space before (so the Chapter started almost half down the page) but when I click "page break" and the the header style again, it doesn't jump down to about half way like I set up. Do you know what I did wrong by chance? I hope that make sense. Lol
Try it with a section break instead? Or create a frame around the chapter heading to create that space? This is something I'm trying to figure out right now, too. Let me know if you've found what works!
Hey, is there another way of getting the template... I tried a few different emails, and there is no way to contact the person who made it? Any help would be appreciated.
but my problem is, i have to choose the font that i comfortable to write it first. if not i not have any feeling to write it lol. then after complete it during the editing, i can change it back to the normal font huhu
I'm a person who is super paranoid of using something I can't, so how can you be sure the fonts you have loaded into your word processor are allowed for commercial use?
Bethany: I love your videos and found them very informative and easy to follow. However, I purchased the template package from Derek and I hate it. So confusing and difficult to follow especially for someone just starting this process. I've asked for a refund. Not sure if I'll get it but fingers crossed cause I definitely can't use his information at all. Might just be me and my beginner brain.
So glad the videos are helpful! Hmmm I didn't purchase anything when I got the free word template, so I'm not sure what you purchased, but that's a bummer to hear you didn't like it. The free word templates are great though!

This is a very helpful video. Thank you. Can I use Times New Roman font free, without paying?

How did you get it to change the font for Chapter heading throughout? I can only get it to do so for the first chapter.
Thanks again!
Absolutely!
How do you add the chapter numbers on the left side??
Thank you.

What about if you have quotes and commenteries. Should everything be the same font even to make points in non fiction?

Sorry I have no idea, I don't know the guy personally, so you'll have to do some digging to figure out how to contact him about that!
Perfect

That’s awesome, thank you!
How about Caslon or Bodoni?
I'm a person who is super paranoid of using something I can't, so how can you be sure the fonts you have loaded into your word processor are allowed for commercial use?
With lots of careful research!
What font do you use in the videos?
Bethany, what website can help me with a fancy font for my cover?
I don't make book covers, sorry!
