+umvhu Wow! Super nice to hear you say that! We are just the newbies at this point. You might want to check our buddy Jamie Robinson at www.motogeo.com for the REALLY good stuff. His videos are the best I've seen.
+vedubsums Thanks for watching! The folks from @Altrider are dig it again in March! Check their website www.altrider.com for dates. I am going and with any luck, I'll finish this time.
"On one side, totally sunny. On the other, it looks like the four horseman of the apocalypse are gunna emerge through the clouds and just fuck your happiness up." wow, thats terrific.
That was a great video. I really appreciated the amount of work it looks like went into it. Must have been an amazing time out there in the desert. Ride safe.
I did not mind the monolouge, it was nice having such extended commentary on each aspect of the course! Really paints a clear picture of what is what like! :P
Hats off to you guys! someday i'll be there for sure to ride with you guys i'll be honoured, next month i'll be riding off solo to the Himalayas for a month, I took down all your tips and practicing a lot, I am absolutely sure that the 'techniques' you mentioned in the video will 'definitely' help me out! Thank you Brad.
great video. there were many things on your speech that made me realize how dangerous this is. in about 40 days from now i will go on a solo adventure, no friends no back up team only my bike loggage and me. lets see how i perform on my 1,000 mile long trip home. regards
Wow! Talk about a rude slap in the face by reality, which is probably a good thing. I think everyone needs to re-evaluate the risks of riding from time to time. Watching that footage of your bud, Fonzi, really brought back memories from my similar fall last year in Big Bend. Similar scenario...big rock in the wrong place. It was just me and a buddy with 60 miles of desert between us and the nearest medical facility and my lower extremities were "tingling". Had to ride the bike out. No cell service, no land lines. No bueno. I was lucky though. No separations or broken vertebra. Just some seriously hyper extending of the C-spine. Live life, ride safe. ;-)
Looks like it would be excellent training from a legend and appreciate the tips discussed and demo'd. Tough lessons learned, though, and unfortunate for the crashed riders. Since Dakar is now limited to 450 cc, why not do the same in this ToD instead of big, heavy ADV bikes? Seems RawHyde has the big ADV segment covered.
Great stuff. Really embodies everything an adventure ride is, pleasure + pain. Great story storytelling, looking forward to more. How did the fella make out who hurt his back?
Seems like a well organized course but I wonder if you wouldn't learn more by simply getting a 125cc enduro bike and "fool around" for 4 days. In my humble opinion this kind of course is typical for people who've bought a big expensive "adventure bike" and don't know what to do with it. IMHO you need "the whole package". You need stamina, endurance, toughness, instincts, visual prowess and so on. These things don't happen overnight, it takes months if not years of training. If you really want to learn how to ride get a 125 enduro bike and learn to ride it full throttle everywhere, then get a 250 enduro bike and do the same. If you can do that you can handle ANYTHING after that.
If you want to learn about off road, be trained and learn about Dakar. You need to speak to Simon Pavey at the BMW off road school in the U.K. He is Mr Dakar.
You should take trip to Wales and do Simon's School.....A long way I know but it's incredible.... He still has his Dakar bikes from all the different years to ride... You could do a comparison!!!!!
Everest. This reminds me of Mt. Everest, where at one time it was a place where those qualified were on the upper mountain. Today, as long as you have the money, you can be at Disney one month and Everest the next. Should be fun to watch.
Good vid. A bit more riding would be nice as others point out, but you did a good job emphasizing safety. Next time more scenery. Max out the GoPro disk space!
Well you wanted a taste of Dakar. I would say you got it. Not easy going on those large adventure bikes. Its a good thing you had recent training. Unless you're riding events and doing off road challenges regularly you need good training to keep up the riding skills.
@@epicnomadreview3539 for sure. It’s the speed and hard surfaces. I think the Isle of Man riders would definitely say Dakar is more difficult and grueling though. As a former wannabe road racer getting back in to dirt riding and adventure riding in middle age, I’m here to tell you a short day at the offroad park is way tougher than a long track day. I don’t remember being sore road racing. Or crashing regularly. Basically that’s why I’m heading off road more. More fun, less big risk. Definitely not doing Dakar for sure though.
You are correct on IOM. It is The oldest and deadliest. I should've clarified that Dakar is the deadliest OFF-ROAD race. I blew it. Stage fright, you know?
+KlockworXMusic Yeah, You are correct, sir IOM takes the prize for MOST dangerous. I misspoke and should have clarified most dangerous "offroad" race. IOM takes the lead in deadliest, oldest and probably coolest motorcycle race in the world. Still dreaming...
WeRideLikeThis totally! Mad respect. And Enduro riders and trials riders are freaks of nature that can defy the laws of gravity. All I can say is… Someday. Thanks for watching. This was a course designed for beginners.
+The Ride of My Life I need to take a Jimmy course and I know Jeremy and you're right he's a crazy good rider. This video and the accidents are very real and serious
This is a great video to watch, well done to Jimmy Lewis & Co. for showing the important basics on riding motorcycles. Great to see Chris Blais again. For those interested in the Dakar from a pure DIY amateur perspective, you ought to check out the award winning film Dream Racer (www.dreamracer.tv) where you can pick up additional tips.
Well made video but pretty weak riding skills. Talking about something as if it's a great feat of daring doesn't make it so. But, I guess nobody would watch a video titled "A bunch of posers on heavy duel sports riding in Pahrump, NV" or maybe, "The talk of my life".
The best way to learn to ride a off road motor bike is buy a little 125 trail and blast about on it you will then.learn to steer off the throttle on all ground . this will bring you on so much.. & do wonder s for your confidence...........
Dakar rally race is not an individual race, its a team race,u cant beat the desert without a bunch of team to suppot you,but in the real scenario your the only one who beat the odds, the team will just awaits you,.
The Malle Moto class can make it an individual race. A rider, a bike, a trunk of tools & spares, and 2 spare wheels. No outside help apart from wrestling mousses. This video is well worth the watch to get a better glimpse into Dakar... ruclips.net/video/JjF_m99VAv8/видео.html
Have you never heard of Graham Jarvis or Johnny Walker. Have you never seen a hard endro race like Erzberg. Have you never seen freestyle competition with the likes of Travis Pastrona (who once came 8th in Erzberg). Have you ever seen supper cross with the likes of James Stewart. I am sure this guy is good but he is not god. The things he is teaching are child's pay to any trials rider.
Jay, Music to my ears. Legends, all of them. Im in SoCal and the crew and I have several interviews and rides filmed and in the process of editing folks at that level. Keep in mind that we are at the beginning of this series and just focusing on the intro stuff. If we try to hang with the guys you mentioned, I'll go home in a body bag. It'll get more technical, I promise. The guys around me are Brock Glover, Jeremy McGrath, Jeff Ward and more are on our hit list. We'll get there.
Pastrana or Jonny Walker or James Stewart could be the best of the best in supercross, freestyle or what ever. Dakar is beyond your tecnique. Its about inteligence, money, luck, self impruvment and of cource to know how to ride a bike lol. There is a guy here in Argentina running the dakars in the last few years he is the best in the country in the enduro style his name is Javier Pisolito, but with out an official bike he would never compite or at least have the same oportunitys than the top pilots because of many aspects. he is great but his bike isnt that good, his backup isnt there, his service team isnt that good etc...
Carl Marsh no I agree, overly dramatic language. On a separate note, starting out on a 1200 gsa is a helluva lot of bike to learn to ride off-road on. That being said, i think learning to ride off-road on a big bike makes you a better rider than a smaller bike because you really have to learn to pike your lines and ride well and you can't just muscle around the bike like you could with a smaller bike. Going from a klr 650, nowhere as big as a 1200 gsa, to a kym690 make the ktm zoo much easier to ride off-road.
The video is good but please make accurate comments because it's destroying your credibility. The most dangerous race in the world was an obvious one but describing Fonzis get off as going 30feet from the bike was clearly inaccurate too. It looks about 10 at most. The Ride of My Life ...sorrry you need to watch the evidence. I am guessing you added this commentary a while later. Facts are important. Your viewers will decide for themselves how accurate you are being. Still think your videos are interesting though.
Er actually, it is far less dangerous than the real dakar.....Try doing 1000 kms every day for 18 days with not enough food and sleep.... That's a lot more dangerous....
Extraordinary article! This has got to be the best I've seen for quite a few years.
THANK YOU!!!!

That's life my friend, that's life. Love enjoyed your video.
Thanks for your point of view. I do offroad riding for a long time and underestimate the danger.
Some awesome riding and skill building tips. Looks like a great opportunity to challenge ones skills. Thanks for the post Brad.
Damn, man, what an excellent well rounded video! Thanks much!!
Outstanding. Inspirational. Educational. Thanks a ton for bringing this to the riders of the world!
Good stuff! Awesome video! Thanks for sharing!
Soo well put together and edited!
Beautiful video!!!!
Well done, learned a few things. Thanks
Hey man thanks for making this vid. I am very inspired by you and Jimmy's class. Hope to see you out there riding!
+vedubsums Thanks for watching! The folks from @Altrider are dig it again in March! Check their website www.altrider.com for dates. I am going and with any luck, I'll finish this time.
OMG! Oh how I would love to attend this event! Call me crazy, but I feel like a better rider after just watching this. Just Awesome!
. . Dakar, nice to meet you. . Somebody is getting their ass kicked . " love the video thank you !
"On one side, totally sunny. On the other, it looks like the four horseman of the apocalypse are gunna emerge through the clouds and just fuck your happiness up." wow, thats terrific.
Really awesome!!!
This is my bucket list. Travel the world on my 1200 GSA.
Just dropped by for an update, looking at a local ADV off road class this summer and a JL for next winter, maybe a TOD...cheers
Come to TOD in March. We are going to actually try and film it COMPLETELY this time...
That is awesome, looking forward to another excellent video. Will have to see what happens in March.
Looks like a gas of a time, minus the spills. You have to love that BMW.
Great job!
Outstanding film. Thanks. Can't wait to get into one of his classes.

I had the pleasure of being lapped by Kurt Caselli at the big six Grand Prix, he was a amazing racer.
Great video
Anthony DeFlorio thanks Anthony! Appreciate the comment!
Wasn't sure what to expect from this video, but you had me after the Karate Kid reference :)
Nice! I whish I could do this some time
My first you tube comment a wonderful made video. It hit the spot.
Looks like it would be excellent training from a legend and appreciate the tips discussed and demo'd. Tough lessons learned, though, and unfortunate for the crashed riders. +shingnosis you must weigh 50 lbs and be 10 years old to think you will get anything out of a 125cc bike. that or you like riding at 10mph
There’s a huge difference in a 250 pound bike and a 600 pound bike packed with gear it’s like relearning how to ride
If you want to learn about off road, be trained and learn about Dakar. You need to speak to Simon Pavey at the BMW off road school in the U.K. He is Mr Dakar.
You asked for it, you got it! :-).

Keep 'em coming! I've run out of good ideas :-)
You should take trip to Wales and do Simon's School.....A long way I know but it's incredible.... He still has his Dakar bikes from all the different years to ride... You could do a comparison!!!!!
+Michael Caton it's on the shortlist. He was a champion at taste of Dakar 2016. Nicest guy you'll ever want to meet
I'm thinking TT is slightly higher in danger factor, that race is nuts.
Everest.
This reminds me of Mt. Everest, where at one time it was a place where those qualified were on the upper mountain. Today, as long as you have the money, you can be at Disney one month and Everest the next.
Should be fun to watch.
how much would it be to do this taste of dakar?
Good vid. A bit more riding would be nice as others point out, but you did a good job emphasizing safety. Next time more scenery. Max out the GoPro disk space!
great story!
ps.
the MOST dangerous bike race isn't the Dakar. It is TT IOM. ;)
Thanks Aleksandar! With a little luck, we will cover the TT! Either way, these guys are heroes.
Aleksandar Božo it depends,
IOM TT is only dangerous if you ride it at speed
dakar is even dangerous for the slowest guy
Well you wanted a taste of Dakar. I would say you got it. Not easy going on those large adventure bikes. Its a good thing you had recent training. Unless you're riding events and doing off road challenges regularly you need good training to keep up the riding skills.
Bummer trip just to home it's a bust but good video
cool vids you got. keep them coming.
more training needed...
Including film making training
I actually think that Isle of Mann TT riders might dispute the most dangerous title.
You’re definitely right! I should’ve said “most dangerous OFFROAD” or something. The isle of man is epic.
@@epicnomadreview3539 for sure. It’s the speed and hard surfaces. I think the Isle of Man riders would definitely say Dakar is more difficult and grueling though. You are correct on IOM. It is The oldest and deadliest. I should've clarified that Dakar is the deadliest OFF-ROAD race. I blew it. Stage fright, you know?
+The Ride of My Life You should do it alone for real challange, without support team. meh.
aneyway gj
you are too cute....OMG
I dispute that it is the most dangerous race in the world. I am pretty sure that award is chocked up to the IOM TT with over 200 deaths.
Late watcher. Nice work.
is there a mouse at 28;05 where he crashes? look at the ground at 2805 2806
What is Jimmy riding, xr650r?
dammit! watched the whole damn thing again.
only in America? Niet.
and then there is people like me who do hard enduro and can balance the bike at a stand still for as long as we need to
WeRideLikeThis totally! Mad respect. And Enduro riders and trials riders are freaks of nature that can defy the laws of gravity. All I can say is… Someday. Thanks for watching. This was a course designed for beginners.
yeah man, mind you the GS's are heavy i do it on a max weight of 144kg on my drz 400 but the ktm 250 is 95 kgs
the most dangerous race in the world is the isle of man gp...
More people die ever year in the Dakar Rally. IOM is a great race, but the Dakar is real endurance, 12000km in 15 days.
such a great video
Thanks Leslie! We are learning as we go on the stuff! Sincerely appreciate the kind words.
+The Ride of My Life I need to take a

Well it might as well be. Poverty, terrorism, disease....what's the diff?

Lots of TALKING about riding and how awesome everyone is but not much riding. YAWN.
You have to get hurt to learn.
this video is good but 1200 gs very heavy for offroad ....
adventure? with truck support available, ja ja ja
This dude is like the Steven Seagal of the motorcycle world...
Everything has to be so melodramatic all the time, gets real old real fast...
If you really wont a taste of Dakar, come to Bolivia and ride the real Dakar Rally route with me on Honda XR 400s. Check out Motorcycle Tours Bolivia.
Far too much chat drama !! " You don't got it..." Terrible use of English.
