Toby Price knows that completing The Dakar Rally is a triumph in itself. The South American terrain knows no regard for man or machine, breaking both at will over the course of 14 days and some 9000km travelled.
But to wipe the sand from the eyes and the blood from the boots to hold The Dakar trophy aloft, takes more than just strength. Victory demands sacrifice. And the Australian off-road racer has known more than his fair share of pain - including more than 27 broken bones and a broken neck that very nearly rendered him motionless for life.
From first jumping on a bike as a two-year-old to dealing with his sister’s death and then witnessing the death of his best friend in succession, Paying the Price follows Toby’s emotional journey from country kid to becoming Australia’s first ever winner of The Dakar Rally.

Dakar and Isle of Man TT are both insane, hats off to these lads
Holy shit, when the doctor snapped that spine model I flinched so hard.
That got me too
Makes me wanna wear a neckbrace again ngl
first of all, that doctor was creepy to begin with... then he goes and snaps a damn model of a spine. no thanks, ill take the nurse!
omfg wasnt that hectic i did to

This is the most incredible and moving motorsport Documentary I have seen & like others on here, not ashamed to admit brought a tear to my eye. Toby Price is without doubt in the league of extraordinary men & one we can all learn from...
This is a once in a lifetime video. The way he recounts the story of his friend and mentor dying is the stuff of legend. It's incredibly sad, but at least he does the story justice, and honors his friend very much.
Alex zanardi, lost his legs in F1 then competed in touring car then handcycling.
Thats so true mate, what a legend
And he's done it again. 2019 Dakar champion 😍💪🏼 . 18th in a row for KTM 🍊🙌🏼

Rest In Peace Paulo Gonçalves, you are an inspiration for all bike riders, always losing precious time in order to help the competition, the true embodiment of the Dakar race.
"He broke both his arms" That day a legend was born
That poor mother and her selfless devotion to making sure all of her two-broken-arms'ed son's physical needs were met. Never forget.
Great documentary. I'm not ashamed to say it brought a tear to my eye.
me too.
Same mate, boys don't cry but real men do. Toby Price is a bloody champion and huge inspiration......
@@copternutFPV couldn t agree more.He s a true champ.
I am the same
I just watched it now. Really tugs at the heart strings...
When he was born the doctor said, "it's a man"
No it should be “it’s a fuckin legend”

5th time watching this. So well put together. Toby is a fighter, through tragedy, loss, and even almost death. How can you not idolize him.
There'rs no alternative to passion......passion will always prevail.
Why the thumbs down.
This is a story about one incredible guy to keep going and just win it again after what he's been through. 👍👍
RUclips is rife with trolls and haters. 😢
The thumbs down came from those that heard how no company cares about their own riders, ohh your spine has a broken disc good luck!
Always wonderful to see the stories behind these guys... Thank you redbull
Glad you enjoyed one incredible man's story!
Luca Mosconi yeah a lot of people complain
What an inspiration Toby Price is. Australia has had many Sporting Legends, Toby is the most underrated, and as far as I'm concerned deserves to be the Top of List......I woke up this morning feeling sore with my pieces of hardware giving me heaps, and feeling really low.....I dragged my sorry Old Arse out of bed and was thinking about Toby's Incredible 2019 Dakar Win, how I didn't think he could do it with his wrist injury, and how much pain he would've been in only a month after being screwed back together, and I fired up RUclips and this doco popped up for me to see.....How timely.....What an emotional documentary, I knew he'd broken his neck, but the footage really touched a nerve for me....The Bloke is Unbelievable....For me, Dakar is the most amazing Motorsport Event on the Planet. The IOM is when you are talking Road Racing, but the Gruelling 11 Days of Dakar is like nothing else. It's like a Grand Prix Every Day, Day after Day, and the only mention it gets on "The News" is when......I'm not a fan of Red Bulls other Motorsport Teams, F1, and the Aussie Team, but their involvement with the KTM Team and other Red Bull sponsored Teams in Dakar gets a Thumbs Up from me......Congratulation Toby. What a Man.
Good grief dude, what an amazing story he has. What a badass!
Being a fellow Australian (city fella), it's easy to see there is so much Aussie country boy in Toby. He's so casual and easy-going on the outside, but has a fiercely competitive edge when it comes to his preferred vocation - flat out on a dirt bike. His recovery from that totally gnarly neck break was unlikely and totally inspirational.
Toby seems like a great dude. I really hope he wins more Dakar events.
This doco was great viewing. I'm glad Red Bull put some good money into it.
One of the best documentaries I've seen. I had the pleasure of meeting Kurt a couple of times and he was everything people say and Toby's push to win Dakar is truly inspiring especially with the battles he had to win to get there.
Thank you for your kind words, Steve!
That would have to be one of the best motorsport doco's of all time for me. A most moving 38 minutes . Thankyou for that, very well done.
Sorry for your loss Toby .... #riseabove
Wish my father was lucky enough to walk after his accident... RIP Dad
Toby Price, you are the embodiment of the saying, "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a ride!"
for me you are the clear winer off the dakar 2023!!!!
I've been wanting to watch this documentary for a long time. What a story, & what a man. Anyone who doesn't get a bit emotional watching this has a hard heart.
I don't know much of anything about Enduro. I recently bought a KTM690 to casually ride some easy trails where I live and commute to work and through searching videos about my bike I came across this. This documentary was the most powerful thing I have seen in a long time and Toby's win brought tears to my eyes. What an inspiring story.
No matter where he goes or what he ends up doing and win or loose, you will always be the most outstanding champion to me!! The fact Kurt saw in you what he did tells the world and I just what your made of and the level of talent you bring to a team. Me now at 56, beating cancer,a heart attack, and all my hold my beer moments, I will never get to achieve what I wanted, but I can watch and relish watching you, the guy .out of my riding buddies didn't know existed! Your a humble ,emotion filled person that is a roll model to all that taste the sport! I thought once ...man what a day to ride with somebody like you, now I think, although it would be great...what a disappointment I'd be....BUT...at least God still let's me ride!! Hats off and cheers!! Thank you for all the times I got to watch you if even of video!! GOD Bless ya champ!!
im 14 y/o and im from sweden and i also ride dirtbikes, and this is truly inspiring to see his motivation to win! Great video u guys thank you redbull
Thank you! Keep it up! 🙌
coming from someone with a very short attention span, i watched every second of it and loved it. It makes me so emotional knowing what he went though and how each rider has such a back story to them that isnt shown on the surface but lies beneath the amazing individuals. Thanks Red Bull for making my night before i start the week.
Crazy to see red bull replying to everyone lol love this video.
Thank you Red Bull for bringing us this great documentary! More Please!!
Thanks! That's the plan 🤝
If anyone is as driven as this lad. No way in hell that one will fail to achieve their dreams. Either that or dead. Failure isn't even on the list! Such an inspiration!
NEVER AND I DO MEAN NEVER. UNDERESTIMATE THE HUMAN SPIRIT TOBY YOU ARE AMAZING.
One thing ive learned in this vid is that you aussies shred hard

What an emotional journey for him. This could be made in to a film! What a guy, this really gives you a newfound appreciation for how down to earth Toby is
Absolute aussie icon this bloke! Legend of dude down to earth 🌍 a real role model for kids to look up too! A national treasure to this country!
I've never heard of him before but honestly he's up there with highest riders there are with a passion that can't be beat
Damn !

@@ikkosaq1655 no no he broke his leg
I stopped the doco 17 minutes in, to comment. I can see why he is living his life to the fullest, he is live on behalf of his sister too.
Seems she wasn’t able to do many things for herself, and I can see in Toby that he is not letting fear control what makes his life so rich.
You keep on being a champion brother from a Big Fan here in Alice Springs home of the Finke Desert Race
I began when I was 22 I went from beginner to pro in motocross in under one year unfortunately I shattered both my legs and I have a partial Paralyze foot! My start of my third year When I got out of the Hospital I didn’t take a single thing for pain and never stopped riding but I started working out everyday and trained in Jujitsu for two hours after I worked out as well as built houses everyday and in 07 I proved to myself that I could out ride any factory rider and did. If I could do it then anyone can do it if your following your Heart,Mind ,soul which what we do is really all about Spiritual enlightenment. Which when you prove everything you need to prove to yourself!?! It’s like owning the world for eternity and legends never die.❤️🥇🇺🇸🏁😎P,S this guy is awesome and it inspired me to try and get back to the sport I love. Rally and Dakar is super tough.
Such an amazing story of life's highs and lows.
One of the most inspirational stories I have watched.
Dont ever let anyone tell you that you cant do something.
What an amazing story. Passion, determination, and a whole lot of faith!
I'm lying here 3 months post neck surgery that is no where near as bad as Toby and I will never get on a bike again as my right arm has lost strength from nerve damage. This goes to show how fit Toby was at the time of injury and how brutal his mental focus is to come back. That recovery was nothing short of F'in amazing! The guy is a warrior!. Respect from NZ Toby.
Dear Toby and your family
I’m so sorry for the loss of your little sister.
Life is really hard at times.
The good times and memories are priceless..
Your a champion Toby.
Best wishes ahead and wish’n you great times, fast times, best times and the best that life’s rides has ahead..
Ride on Toby👍🏻
I wish you all the best and
Great Video, they should make a Movie after him, very inspirational.
Mike Chavez I'm a screenwriter and the Official Biographer of Hall of Fame racer Steve Wise. ktm882@gmail.com if you can get me in context with Toby or someone at Red Bull who would be ininterested making this movie happen.
Being Australian that makes me really proud to be an aussie.
Great job tobs
Makes me jealous im not. This man is my idol. Ive been to a lot of countries and ive never received as warm of a welcome as i got in Australia. They hate Americans everywhere but Australia is pretty much america without guns and with a rad accent.
Straya!
Wow What a legend I busted my back pretty bad 4 years 4 major operations and I'm walking working and have a life, Its people like Toby that had me not giving up so yer this is A heart string for me Congratulations on another amazing ride.
This film inspired me to get my license and buy a motorcycle. Redbull absolutely smashed it with this one.
What an amazing story, and to watch this guy on a bike is poetry in motion wow.....
I am a 14yr old boy from Perth Australia and I have been riding dirt bikes sience I was five, I'm only able to go out riding every now and then but my dream is to one day ride Enduro. But I have to wait untill I live at my own home because my parents don't have enough money and they have no background in mx. I look up to Toby as an idol.
The impact of Kurt's death is still felt in my hometown. I personally never met him but anyone who had said he was a incredible human being. Toby seems like a good guy too
Toby was already my favorite dessert racer but didt know his back story. I like him even more now. What a story. A real legend✌
Absolute Legend ! What a man. What a competitor. What a human. Go for ever Toby !
What an inspiration and a great human being. Awesome job on the documentary. Incredible roller coaster of emotions watching this young man. This is someone for the next generation to look up to. His courage and drive along with an unequalled compassion is what makes him great
this guy is a very special human being in every way
