in 2006 myself and 2 friends decided upon a 'Long Way Round' style trip, inspired by the Charlie and Ewan. We didn't't have their budget, we didn't have a tv crew, in fact we didn't really have money. We set off from the UK, 2 of us on XT 600's and I was on a newer XTz660. our route was not dissimilar to yours until we got to Mongolia. I and a friend ran out of money, though the 3rd chap by chance met another English guy and they both continued on the Road of Bones through to Magadan and then to USA.
Overall, my most memorable occasions were the ones when were were in trouble. ALWAYS someone came to our assistance. If it were a push, if it were a spanner, if it were welding, if it were a bed for the night and a drink together.
We found, the less people have, the more they are inclined to share it with you. Often we found ourselves in a spot of bother (even a similar in Ukraine to your russian visa problem (100 Bucks made it go away to the right person)) but it was a life changing experience. If you are thinking of doing something similar, DO IT. Life is short, life is uncertain and life is for living. LIVE IT!

Sounds wonderful. My first time back packing the Philippines I stayed at a village and the family I arranged to stay with had breakfast cooked for us. We hiked around the base of the Mayon volcano, came back down for lunch and they claimed they had nothing.
Turned out they fed us the last of their food. Long story short you are right, the more poor people are the more they want to help.

I have a 2012 NC700 and everything is fine, I rode about 12000km on it, in total it has 24000km on it now. I bought it as my first bike. My longest tour was 2000km, the only issue I had was that I ran out of fuel (500m before the gas station and it was totally my fault, the range is fine). The fuel gauge is a bit pessimistic xD
The only other things I did (except the regular maintenance at 12k and 24k)was change the tires, replace the fork seals at 18k km and change the chain at 22k (it was already in bad shape when I bought it)

If there wouldn't be armies, simple people would start fighting with each other on their own. So not much would change

Watched & loved the whole video, thank you guys so much! Key learning-filter gas or change bikes to carburetors. Lyndon Poskit does that with his rally bikes, guess he knows what he’s doing. Anyway, really enjoyed all the trials & tribulations you overcame. I do a week riding in Baja Mexico every year, your trip makes ours look like child’s play.

Alex Kunze If you've ever tried ridinga 650cc carburetor bike at 4500 mts height above sea level, like mentioned in the video... U'll realize that it'll start struggling like a 250cc Honda at high altitudes...Fuel injection is the only solution around that problem..

Your video randomly came on while I was tinkering in my garage on my ktm. I listened while I worked for about the first 15min, after that, all worked stopped. I was glued to my phone as I immersed myself in your experience. As in life, your journey proved that the reward is not reaching your final destination, it's the triumphs and adversity faced along the way that provides the memories and the ultimate prize for ones soul. I wonder how difficult this trek would be to navigate today given the current climate of uncertainty from country to country?
    What a great experience!
