I am using Acer Predator Helios 16 with i7-13700HX and RTX 4060.It's a beast laptop for performance, display and cooling.Only downpoint is Software Updates and no presence of Voltage Control for CPU like Lenovo or other brands give..
The fan noise isn't that bad especially if you use ANC headphones while gaming. More of an inconvenience are the side fans that blast your mouse hand with hot air in performance and turbo mode.
The stigma surrounding these Intel CPUs, whether or not mobile chips are affected, will make these a tough sell on the 2nd hand market, meaning owners may have to take quite a hit on their value....something to consider if you will eventually need to sell one to part fund your next Laptop upgrade.
Nice reviewi plan to get the helios neo 16-inch i9-14900hx/32gb/1tb ssd/rtx4070 8gb for 1250$usd i think it's a pretty good deal and hopefully the 2024 i9 does better than the i7 from 2023 regarding those thermal issues 🤷♂️
I bought a predator helios neo 14 (2024 model) last month. Even under the full load, Intel core ultra 9 keeps its fan noise so quiet without compromising the performance. Battery life is also not bad regarding 14 inch gaming laptop. @NotebookcheckReviews Wondering if you could review the unit.
Had the laptop and returned it because the CPU throttles. Unfortunately, you are not able to reduce the voltage or do any changes to improve things. When gaming, the CPU was like "stuck" at 100 degrees. That's unacceptable! I understand that Acer wants the laptop to be very fast and it's applying overclock, but at least you should have the option to change things.
I have recently bought helios neo 16 with core i9 14900hx, 4070 8gb and 32 gigabytes of ram how much difference does it have with Helios 16 with same specs?
Really depends on the configs here, Predator 16 might be the cheapest, the MacBook probably gives you the best battery life and the G16 is a great allrounder when it comes to portability and performance and comes with an OLED ...
Got one, but the speaker quality is garbage, my s24 ultra sound output is better, done tweaking but still below standard for me. other than that everything is great. My Zenbook 14 oled - sounds out is awesome HP pavillion - sound ok also My Dell XPS 2011 sound better than Helios Neo 16 Helios neo 16 sound like an entry level mobile phone speaker. Disappointed on this. Better use external speaker
I wouldn't touch an Intel CPU if what I hear lately is remotely accurate about the 13th and 14th generation of their CPUs. Otherwise, Acer's laptop is good, at least as far as I am concerned. Noise doesn't seem to be too bad for me, and I never cared for battery life. IMO Acer has a good product which, Intel aside, I wish I could afford it. Thank you for the good review.
You are more than welcome. Concerning Intel, it is of course a developing situation but have there been actual reports of notebook CPUs being affected?
For the Intel CPU a better reason in my opinion is the wattage they pull. My 13900hx can pull near 250w alone, it's impossible to cool properly so my laptop turn into a jet engine if I'm not on eco mode....
Just stumbled on this and it correlates with what I have heard so far. Pretty interesting read with quite a bit of background info. Bottomline, it's an ongoing situation, but for now it looks like the risk for mobile CPUs is rather minimal: www.xmg.gg/en/news-update-intel-core-cpus-laptops-stability/

What would you hope to gain by having those controls?

The 8GB was a deal breaker for me. Must have at least 12 with the 4080

You can change the voltage with Intel XTU
Noise and Battery Life cons??? Don't mind if I do .. as long as game running smooth , im completely fine with it
Same actually, but some people might not ;)
Is there any issue of crashes and bluescreen on i7 14700hx? I planned to want to take this Helios series, but there is a doubt to take it
yes this cpu is hot bomb too

I would like to buy it tomorrow. Is there anyone who has used it for a long time to give me advice?

Will you do a review with rog zephyrus g16 with ryzen cpu
how are some laptops with the same chip last longer with double the battery life?
It's all a matter of tuning by the manufacturer.
The same way you get vastly different performance results despite some laptops using the same chip
