The thing is if you look at the prices in third world countries or anywhere that isnt US, the cost per frame of the 4070 laptops skyrockets, same scale happens for the 4080 and 4090, being the 4060 the most cost per frame option here, as the other laptops sees a $700 USD increase if you go for the 4070 instead of 4060.ANd spending that much for 8gb vram is not good.

The biggest problem of RTX 4070 is 8GB memory. Paying so much to still get 8GB feels wrong
I think they should've made it 10gb to differentiate it from the 4060. Although maybe they are saving that for the 4070Ti version

Thanks for being transparent about the 4060 dying. You could leave it out and spare yourself the explanation and the extra testing of the missing games with a different laptop but decided to include both the explanation and the missing games either way. As a laptop enthusiast I appreciate your hard work on giving us the clearest picture.

4060 is way more than enough for 1080p. If your screen is 1440p or higher go for the 4070, although the price difference is not worth the performance uplift

@@cameronbosch1213The 4080 options I've seen are _waaaaay_ more expensive than the 4070 options. That's nowhere near as trivial as decision as you make it seem.
@henryviiifake8244 But the performance difference is actually isn't trivial either. In some cases, it could be almost 50%. Not to mention the extra 4 GB of vRAM.
I guess 4070s must be selling poorly and 4080s must be selling well, so that's why we can find decent deals for 4070 laptops and not yet for 4080 laptops. If I wanted a high tier gpu, I'd wait for it to go on sale.

What I understand from your video is that the main appeal of the RTX 4070 seems power efficiency (min 1:01 - 1:35), which might come in useful for thinner laptops or travelling. When you clip both GPUs at the same performance (i.e. identical fps), then the power consumption of the RTX 4060 can be up to 50% higher than than of the RTX 4070. Correct?
I think this was Nvidia's goal with this gen, but it seems most are missing this point. They even say as much on their website - something along the lines of "similar power as last gen at lower power levels" - again, I'm paraphrasing, but they weren't being sneaky if they're stating this on their site.
Exactly this. I had both 4060 and 4070 laptops last year. With the latter, you can run slightly better performance with way quieter fans and without burning your table and fingers. Sure, max performance won't be *that* powerful, but having a pc that runs games so easily is WAY more interesting to me. It's kind of having a console, not mentioning that I don't like to push everything to its limit all the time just to have 10% less performance
At the local used market I found the msi gp66 vector (i7 12700h rtx 3070ti) at a lower price than the rtx 4060 laptop, almost in 4050 price range.. is that still a good laptop in 2023?
I got the 4060 it’s currently the only laptop gpu that exactly matches or beats the desktop version so it’s nice to be able to watch desktop benchmarks and expect identical performance on my laptop

It's probably not because the laptop GPU is so good but because the desktop GPU is so bad
@@_tym3k This, exactly. In any case, laptop GPUs have generally always been much weaker than desktop GPUs. I don't know who would buy a laptop expecting similar performance, even with the laptop GPU using the same name. Nvidia screwed up by not having the "M" at the end of the name (4070M), but at the same time, it's a laptop, it's obviously a MOBILE chip. Have you seen the desktop GPUs? They are 3 to 4 times as thick as laptops all by themselves!
With my 4070 I just look at 4060 tests and scale accordingly lmao

I picked up a 130w Lenovo Legion 5, Ryzen 5600, 3060, 1TB storage and 8gb ram (doubled for cheap) off Amazon for just over 700 euros less than 6 months ago, here in Ireland where you can get jack. It was too much of a bargain to pass up. I doubt it is worth upgrading at the moment, but any comparison videos would be cool. Also, any chance of doing laptop deals in the EU market, as it is a tougher place to find bargains with less choice than the US. Great work with these videos.

Hi Jarrod I have been following you for a long time and picked my last laptop after watching your review, it was legion y540 and it was great. now, my doubt is can i go with lenovo LOQ 4060 for games like COD MW2 will it be good or should i invest more go for Legion pro or is there any ither better ones.

Hey. I'm a bit confused with some of the options I have in my country. One is rtx 4060 with i7 13700HX, another is rtx 4070 with r7 7745HX. Somehow the one with 4070 is cheaper (let's say by about 100$), but it might be because of the processor. However, I'd like to get a laptop with inter processor because I heard ryzen ones get very high on temperature, so I'm hesitant on getting one with the ryzen processor. Between these 2 options, which one would be better to get?
So i currently have a Helios 300 2020 model with i7 10th gen rtx 2060 6gb, should i consider upgrading to a 40 series laptop or should i go for a 30 series laptop?? looking at the new helios 16 with 4070 as an option. I highly recommand testing new UE5 games like remnant 2 and forspoken, to give a clear image on the expected frame rate for future gaming.

I did subscribe to your channel since the first time I watched your vids, don't know if someone else put the same tremendous amount of time and effort to produce a conclusion which I don't think even the manufacturer know about.
I bought a Legion pro 5 with a RTX4070 on sale for $1500 at microcenter about a month or so ago. The cheapest 4080 i saw at the time was $2700. I had a budget and on top of the laptop i needed to buy an accidental protection plan. I have 2yr old twins at the house. With what my budget was the 4070 was the best i could purchase and it added just a little extra future proofing. Regardless i was using it to replace my desktop i built that was still rocking a GTX1070. So a nice solid improvement. Best thing i did was pester the salesman into giving me a 2yr accidental for the cost of a 1 year.... don't be afraid to ask.
Im doing exactly this, replacing my pc i built in 2012 that has a 1070 in it with a gaming laptop, ive been on fence about going with the 4080 for the extra cash or if ill be okay doing the 4070, ill be hooked to a 1440p 32 inch 165hz screen so idk.

just depends on how much GAMING on the go you really need i mean the 4080s is 999$ now...and adding a board/chip to it for gaming seems pretty viable budget wise...while being able to get a high chip/tdp laptop purely for work/tasks. Which can cost around how much the majority of 4080 laptops are going for w.o ever having to worry about that expensive mobile system dieing/failing etc or needing to be re-pasted/checked yearly. If you can manage lower settings or primarily play multiplayer games on low for higher yields/frame bufer and input latency a sub 1000$ gaming laptop can do those requirements. While having a AAA/MAX settings system at home. The bigger issue is your monitor/budget once you have a system that good. IMO that level of heat and some of the CPU/tdp for pure cpu workloads as well as gaming/duel load scenarios has me worried about long term system health or high uptime gaming. Over the course of 2-3 years. Its something thats always had me against paying 2000$+ for a laptop. Or gimmicks like full rgb, or "monitor hz" on panels bc so many games/settings dont even yield the highest HZ viability and PVE titles or AAA games are largely carried by adaptive sync as it is. FWIW shooters/fps on 15" or a laptop in general is MOOT in multiplayer an instant handicap...and for PVE/AAA theyre better off carried by adaptive sync at 90-120fps as it is. Even a non 4080 setup YIELDS so much more budget for external monitors/peripherals type c chargers etc. If you absolutely need a laptop as a SOLE solution. The way i see it unless youre EARNING from your laptop or its a large priority/aspect i cant advise a 4080 laptop. Or if ppl have expendable income then go for broke if that suits your sense of security with your investment. Its NV's way of insuring flagship/sales...and mitigating re-sale value of their laptops if the gap is so large....the next "generation" 5060 or 5070 will be noticeably better...while making the 4080 still look competitive to newer generational implementations.

The 3080 16GB in my current laptop may Essentially be just a desktop 3060ti, but the 16GB of vram is such a pleasant sight as I'll never have a worry about vram aslong as I own this laptop.

Hey Jarrod can you please make a review on HP Omen 16 4070... ryzen 7 and ryzen 9 both. I'm sceptical since you had bad reviews for the 4070 and in this particular laptop HP claims that it gives you the best ROI. Btw love and appreciate all your efforts and videos.
I love your videos and used them to pick up a legion pro 5i with 4070. But that is because I live in Japan and going from 4070 to 4080 was 1000$ difference pretty much across the board with how weak the yen is. At that point is is very hard for me to justify the price increase due to the price difference.

Live in Sweden and here the difference were above 700$ between 4070 and 4080. All the other specs was the same so I didn't find it justifiable to take the 4080 and pay so much extra just for the graphics. Using legion pro 5i with i9 13900HX processor. Pretty good machine.
That Tuf 4070 model goes on sale at Best Buy for 1149 every other week or so. Keep an eye out! =)

@@sskgaming8274it’s an “older model” now and at one point months ago was consistently available for $999. But yes 1080p is just soso. Really like the 1600p / 16:10 displays of late. But tbh there are some really nice 16:10 1200p screened devices as well :)

they should give 4070 10GB VRAM, so the line up goes like this:
4050 6GB
4060 8GB
4070 10GB
4080 12GB
4090 16GB
4070 should be 12Gb just like the desktop version, and use the same chip. Otherwise it's a scam, because they are named the same.
I'm convinced the 4070 exists just to push people to buy the 4080 instead

@@tabalugadragon3555 It should have been called 4060 and it should have got 12GB memory on a 192bit bus, that would have been much better than 16GB on a 128bit memory bus.
Considering that the 4060 desktop and 4060 laptop chips are the exact same card/performance, I would absolutely love to see how the 4070(m) stacks up against the 4060 ti (8gb) desktop card. Surprised I haven’t seen a single comparison between the two as of yet!

You can compare 4060 vs 4070 and 4060 vs 4060ti. Then you have a clear picture. The 4060ti is 20-25% faster than the 4060.
SO in conclusion, 4070m = 4060ti
Referring to the information from this channel 4070m is 3060Ti or something like 4060 SUPER (for Desktop) :) than 4060ti which is stronger based on the tests by about 10-15%..@@NamTran-xc2ip

for 1080p id still get the 4070 if youre planning to keep it for a long time, the extra cuda cores help a lot

It's 4060 3072 cuda cores vs 4070 4608 cuda cores, not that much more cuda cores as both have same memory bus and bandwidth and same amount of vram. I am, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get one unfortunately.
Here in Norway the 4080 laptops cost like 4000 USD, the 4070 cost like 1800-2000 USD.
Then I manged to score an returned (remanufactured) 4070 Omen 16, 2023 model with 13th gen i7 for 1300 USD.
The NVME was a bit small at 500 Gb and RAM was 16 Gb. So I put in a 1 Tb 980 PRO NVME that I had laying around after upgrading my stationary, so now its got 1,5 Tb.
I have also swapped to a good 32 Gb kit. Didnt notice a lot of uplift in 3dmark, but my kid does play teardown, beamNG etc with mods and "creative mode".
After he spawns a lot of physics objects, the 16 Gb RAM wouldnt be enough and FPS would be terrible.
So now its more suited for messing around. Since he is 6 years old I think the 4070 I got for 1300 USD then is a super deal.
OF course had I bought it new, it would have been 1800 USD.. But then spending 150 USD for 32 Gb ram and repurposing the 1 Tb NVME its now a quite good machine I would say.
A desktop would be preferable.

Between a 4070 and a 4080 laptops (desktop is out of the question, as I do not have the space for it) which one would be more reliable? Also with a 4080 2560 x 1600 laptop, is it wise to chance the screen resuolution to a 1920 × 1200 or will things come out blurry? I just think a 4080 working in 1920 resoilution will perform better or am i wrong?
If you are investing in a 4080, you might want to go for a 4k setup, unless you prefer 4k monitors only.

I bought the MSI Crosshair 16 from Bestbuy. Was on sale for $1199 which I got it priced at. Regular is $1399. Is a I7 13th gen and 16gb ddr5 ram with RTX 4070. Think its a great deal.

It feels like some substantial driver updates have been cooked up. Because the 4070/3070Ti wasn't 20% faster as per the Notebookcheck database (which is old now).
Notebookcheck is unfortunately not always accurate...
@@g.eberling8700yes, but mostly due to the lack of differentiation between various TDP flavors of same GPUs; arguably the fault lies with Nvidia. MaxQ editions are always listed separately - but since Nvidia abandoned it for Ampere and Ada Lovelace, so did Notebookcheck.
If you expand the charts though, they are quite detailed and show the range (between slowest and fastest samples). Clicking on them shows the laptop model and CPU as well, to isolate other factors contributing to any given result.
@@g.eberling8700 As per Jarrod's older tests as well.. the average difference was within 1% of Notebookcheck database on the same games.
Certainly some improvements I'm seeing.

@@DeepteshLovesTECH yeah it makes no sense. First he shows that BOTH 4070 and 4060 are about 3070 ti level, now he shows that 4070 is 20% faster than 4060. I simply don't understand what's going on.

At the end of the day the 4070 versus the 4060 is a positive difference, right? After watching your video my conclusion is that upgrading to the 4070 from the 4060 for $250 is worth it. @@Antagon666 I meant if you want to upgrade in this gen, and you have 3060 it makes sense to go to 4070 at least because you won't receive noticeable difference between 3060 and 4060. And talking about the price, I 100% agree that current gen has insane cost per FPS, as well as overall. However, when you upgrade from 3060 to 4070 lets say, what stops you from selling your 3060? After all you will get 4070 for around 1k or even less. But of course, my personal choice wait for RTX5000 because RTX4000 is a catastrophe.

The new series laptops are really disappointing. The performance increase is minimal compared to 30 series laptop GPUs. Also, the new 7000 series Ryzen HX cpus have worse battery life than the new intel CPUs. I love Ryzen 5000-6000 series for the battery life. As such, I will be buying a 2022 Lenovo Legion 5 Pro Ryzen 6800H RTX 3070ti. As the performance is only about 10% slower than the new laptops for anywhere between 400-600 dollars cheaper and with nearly double the battery life. I think the 2022 gaming laptops are better than the 2023 laptops.

Hi were u using DLSS Or Frame Generation while testing msfs performance? I am confused between TUF F15 which has i7-12700H RTX4060 150TGP with 144hz 250nits 1080P screen and the Acer Nitro 5 has 3070ti 150TGP 165hz QHD 300/350nits which would be best for 1440p on ultra and 1080P ultra, would the msfs perform better on 4060 with frame generation support? I need 35fps stable on ultra with heavy addons and background apps.
Frame gen is overrated and doesn’t look as good in some games if they even support it, 3070 ti would be overall much better if the games you play don’t have frame gen/dlss

Basically meaning your cpu will have a higher impact on performance than gpu, of course gpu matters in that game but having a worse cpu would impact it more than worse gpu from what I have heard / seen unless I’m misremembering, so just choose whatever has the best cpu+ram then gpu for your needs ^^
If you are technical at all install ghost spectre windows 10 superlite or compact onto your laptop, will help A LOT with fps, reducing background apps/ram usage and internet usage, recently switched to it on my desktop and love it!

@@sparklingion flight simulator is more GPU bound in Ultra settings and 1440P because the CPU can run simulator on 1440P but both the GPU have 8/10percent bottleneck.
So how much faster is the 4070 than the previous generation 3070 laptop given a similar power supply and similar conditions (I know it’s difficult to have same variables given the difference in laptops).

If this is how manufactures are getting decent graphics performance from ultra thins, but reducing wattage to a 4070, I'm fine with that, as a light weight 16" laptop, is important to me, as someone who bounces around SE Asia, frequently, and only travels with one carry-on bag. And has to deal with the carry-on weight limits of budget airlines.

About 10 years ago, my Palit 460TI card could comfortably deliver mid-high performance on all game of the time.
I'm not following today's games, but I did catch that the 4060 (the supposed next-next-next Gen of my former catd) delivered 15 FPS on Godof War (a game that I am familiar with from a friend's place) .

The "60" series 10 years ago were the budget friendly cards that depending on the card manufacturer -- delivered a little above what "budget friendly cards" were supposed to.

In Canada asus g16 4060 is 2299.99 I can get the legion pro 5i with a 4070 from B&H for 2200 CAD and it has 32gb of ram vs the g16’s 16gb.

i own and buy 4070 laptop myself for 2.4K USD (Acer Predator 16) because i could not afford 4080 laptop which way too expensive for me. So far the performance is pretty good on all game i tested. My only complaint that this GPU has only 8GB of vram, which on certain game might be a problem.
Though all that said, in my opinion, the 4060 is the most sweet spot for 40 series laptop in term of performance and price.

I got a 4070 laptop for $970 so I think it’s worth it despite it being an ASUS TUF with some cheap outs when there’s 4060 laptops that where more expensive. I use the laptop on a 165Hz Odyssey G50 regardless and an external keyboard. I also managed to overclocked the gpu, got an IETS cooling pad and yeah, I’m good for now. can do cyberpunk 2077 psycho RT ultra settings and DLSS ultra with frame gen at a 60-70 fps avg
That Alienware M16 with the i7 13700HX which is essentially an I9 in disguise (8P cores 8 e cores), and 4070 at $1399 seems to be a really good deal. That cpu out performs or is on par with 13900H and 7945H. It’s labeled an i7 but it’s really kinda not lol. 4070 gpu making more sense now just cuz the prices of 4060 and 4070 configs are getting closer together imo and at the end of the day it is faster, therefore better for QHD and above. I’m having a thermal issue with my AMD cpu in my laptop with a 3070ti, looking to “rent” a laptop while I RMA it over some damn paste most likely (I’d do it myself but I don’t wanna void the warranty, and if it is a defective chip, yes I’ve noticed a huge cpu bottle neck in games that should not have them cuz they are all gpu bound and QHD screen, and it will idle at 70c, and gpu utilization drops to the 70% all the time in game= my cpu is throttling constantly.) Well I may just end up keeping my rental depending on how my laptop runs when I get it back lol. Then sell this 6800h 3070ti config which is basically brand new and still being sold for a bit over 1k for about $700 to someone. 😂

@@joelgeorge3435 I ordered it as well and so far I’m on my second one already through Best Buy exchange. It’s nothing crazy but the software is Jenky and doesn’t set the fan curved properly but my first one did that but also the stadium ring and alien head on the lid went out and wouldn’t come on. I had a few issues with that one and while no rgb issue with the second one, I am have a nitpicking with the Alienware software.
