I for one am glad they are making the on/off switch more difficult to trigger - I have been using their cameras for a while now and usually carry them quite densely packed in a very compact bag (billingham hadley small). Too often have I got my camera out just to find the battery entirely drained because its been accidently on all day. Its gotten so bad I have started carrying my batteries outside of my camera bodies to prevent them accidently switching on.
I'm new to your channel and this is the second video I watched. First was your review on the A7C. And I love your style of review. It's very.... inclusive. In the sense of a lot of RUclips tech reviewers look at lower priced tech and constantly just default to saying "Buy the one that's $1000 more because it has more features". But instead of making videos that are primarily about what a camera CAN'T do because of its price point, you make it about the value that you DO get at it's price. Everybody isn't trying to spend $3K+ on a camera and the reality is most people (including some professionals) don't NEED a camera at that level yet (I said yet lol). But I love that you actually really use the camera and show your work in detail. I think what needs to be considered in all reviews is the skill of the photographer making the review. Because that's very relevant. Nonetheless, great review and I look forward to more of your work. Subbed.
When the weight of my bulky DSLRs with bulging heads bore on me I switched to Sony’s a6xxx compact series. Now, I’m in my mid-seventies and had long shelved DSLRs. No longer keen on changing lens, I’m now using Sony RX100 series and looking forward for the release of the RX100 VIII.
Thank for the review! It would have been nice to see the camera paired up with the aps c lenses rather than the full frame! Thanks anyway for the video!
For the AF tests during photo and video I used the APSC G 15mm f1.4. Unfortunately it didn’t arrive in time for my photoshoot though which is why I used my own lenses. I have another APSC lens with me now, so I’m thinking of doing another photoshoot with it!
Congratulations on your video. I didn't hear a comment about overheating in the video (the big disadvantage of this camera unfortunately..) 4K by force 20-30 minutes. The 6400 produces video without a problem for more than an hour (the battery is running out and the indicator does not produce) The main reason (personally) that prevents me from buying it
I have this and if u take 4k 60 fps at 200mbps than max 30min and it will shut down. But if u go 4k 4.2.2 10bit at 100mbps, no heating shutdown. Record as long u want
Good video - thanks. I'm enjoying the A6700, I think it's a great camera. My one 'wish' (which agrees with your comment) is that the on/off switch be re-positioned to where it's located on the other Sony cameras.
Always great seeing your reviews and natural light shooting. At the pricepoint and positioning, I wish it had dual card slots. They could have put the 2nd one in the battery compartment. A lot of DSLR "prosumer/enthusiast" bodies had dual slots as there were pros and enthusiasts that do paid shoots on an APS-C system. With the improvemnet in sensor tech and body capabilities on morrorless vs DSLR, I wish at least the flagship APS-C bodies had dual card slots.
This is exactly what we wanted to see a better review of the Sony A6700. Just loved the way you explained in detail ❤❤❤ but could you please tell me which lens did you use?😊😊😊
Okay, I think you have helped me figure everything out! I have the Sony 24mm F1.4 GM and the Sony 200-600mm G OSS lens (currently shoot wildlife) and had a Sony A7III (sold it). I had been debating between moving to APS-C for the lighter weight (especially for travel). I am looking forward to the official announcement of the Sony A7Cii next week. I really want to have two camera and as a hobbyist, would consider myself a hybrid shooter. So, I could get the Sony A6700 now, and then add the Sony A7Cii when released. I could then get the 50mm F1.4 GM (which would be 75mm equiv on the A6700), and maybe either the Sony 11mm f1.8 or the Sony 15mm f1.4 (for wide on the app-c). I would think the color science would be about the same on the two cameras as they would both have some tech as they were released close together in time!
can u show what your camera setting for photography?, I have bought a Sony 6700, but the colors from the camera are very weird, oversaturated and the colors are not natural. and lots of noise even at ISO 500+
Being a full frame shooter, I can say this is a very nice little camera that I could imagine using for street photography and travel. The main downside being it has a flippy screen as in street photography, I would prefer to have the screen in the same axis I'm photographing and also not having to flip the screen out would make me more inconspicuous in the streets. On the side not, I have to agree with your appreciation for the 20mm G lens. I recently added it to my kit and I'm very happy I did.
It's strange to hear that the flippy screen is a downside, all the big names of photographers I see in youtube are mindblown about the RV-s flippy screen that finally came. I had a panasonic fz300 and missing that screen sooooooo much, I'd use that feature 100 times a day when I'm doing street photos.
Did you purchase the 18-135 kit lens from Sony, I’m planning on using this for travel (landscape and portraits) and interested in how you like your 18-135.
@@tyncam24 yes I am really pleased with it. It’s much better than the 16 to 50 kit lens. I find the F3.5 to F5.6 stops and the zoom good for both portraits and landscapes. I like it. 👍
my pulse dropped when you said 759 which i thought was the price, then after a few miliseconds, i crashed to find that you were talking about af points. the flickness of the off/on switch is better since one can't accidentally flip it.
Would you recommend this camera to a stills shooter? I do full time headshots and portraits and I want something light and fast, currently shooting FUJI XT5 but thinking of jumping. What lenses would you recommend to rival a 50mm and 85mm equivalent? And a 35? I’m seriously thinking of switching from Fuji to Sony (XT5 to A6700). I use the Fuji 56, 33 and 23 (85, 50 and 35 equivalents). What 3 Sony lenses would give me those focal lengths? Am I crazy to think the Sony A6700 could rival the XT5 or would you say it might? Your work is incredible btw. Just gorgeous!
Great review Julia! The only thing preventing me from pulling the trigger is if the AutomFraming works with HDMI out. If I understand it well, all your picture in picture images that showed how AF was working…must've been taken with HDMI, tight? But I'm wondering if this would work in a livestream when I plug the HDMI into the CamLink and go live… Thanks if anybody can confirm this
Curious on your thoughts for beginners who have no Sony or Fuji lenses. Which one you'd recommend more, the a6700 or X-S20 for mostly photography? Thank you in advance!
Sony has an amazing set of 3rd party lenses for their APSC line. Most of them with OSS and autofocus enabled, since sony authorized those companies to produce these lenses. Sigma, Tamron and others. I have an @6400 and have a couple of Sony Lenses but I use a Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 which is so incredibly sharp, that I basically use it 80% of the time.
As both of the reviews state “great” I do not think we will get a clear and honest answer as it is so important to please the manufacturers to get further testing trip invitations. 😢
Hi Julia, I'm interested to know your thoughts on using G Master lenses on the A6700, do you think the image quality is that much better than any other APS-C lenses? I have the Sigma 23mm f1.4 plus a Tamron 17-70 but I'm really tempted with this 35mm 1.4 GM.
How is the LCD screen vs the XS20? And which camera did you enjoy using more? I've got an A7RV but I'm looking for a smaller cheaper body for walk around photography.
Yay, it’s nice to see that Sony has imposed the damn side hinged selfie screen on us. A tilt screen is so much better. I really don’t want to have to reach over with my left hand, pull out, twist and re-align every time I want to shoot low or high. Then I have to look left away from the axis of the lens constantly as I’m shooting. Then if I want to continue using the screen I have to leave it sticking out to the side which isn’t just inconvenient it also tells everyone you’re shooting. It’s not discreet. Then I’d have to repeat all of the above again and again when I want to place it back in place. The tilt… it’s so much quicker, literally a finger flick and it’s behind the camera constantly. It’s discreet, fast and unobtrusive. Why do camera manufacturers think all we do is vlog or take selfies? I’ve shot around 500 weddings and events now and do you know what… I’ve never once had to shoot myself.
Oh dear, Sony is imposing what most people want... evil Sony! You're also complaining about a camera that's not for your work, so it's probably not surprising you've never had to shoot yourself.
Many thanks for sharing Julia, shots speak for themselves however the video where your cat was "touching" your hand (with his / hers!!) paw is priceless!!!
If you were to get a daily driver for artsy looking photography and video, maybe especially low light conditions. Would this be that camera to go with, or would you recommend something else? I am not really looking for a budget solution. I am looking for a good solution.
Thank you for this perceptive, clear, concise and comprehensive review! Question about colors: Do find that you prefer the skin tones of Canon or Nikon vs the newest Sony cameras?
I was just hoping for Opengate video :( also the same EVF isn't a good thing. Using the a7iv. It's hard to go back to something smaller Just would have liked the A1 equivalent in apsc where they don't hold back
Hi Julia! Great video! Any recommendations on an SD card that doesn't break the bank for the a6700? We mainly will be using it for music videos and green screen work at 4k 60fps (we do a lot of slow motion). Thank you!
Awesome review, as always! Still new to photography/videography and using a Canon M50. All this new tech, especially with AI Autofocus makes me want to upgrade... but just feel I'm not ready to make that jump yet.
dont upgrade because of new tech, youll forever be changing products...Upgrade when you outgrow your equipment, when you equipment starts to hold you back
I want to upgrade, but it's too much. I have a m50 also I love it but not that many ppl use it for photos. It's hard with the m50 bc it's small and if you put a bigger lens on it, it can be top heavy . That is the only thing I don't like about the m50 .
Shame Sony still using the micro HDMI port :( Thank you guys great review, as you have used both the Sony A7IV and this 6700 what would you choose for a hybrid ? I have the Sony A7sIII but also wanting a second camera, just not sure what is the better hybrid ? It would be great to hear your and Dans thoughts. Anyway thanx guys, stay safe.
Regarding the on off switch. I hate the one on my A6000 as it sometimes switches on when I put it back to my bag. So maybe this was the reason they changed it.
Hi Julia! I am wanting to pull the trigger on getting the A6700 since it came out but wanted to research its reviews regarding the performance while shooting wildlife. I already have a Nikon D5300 that I use with 15-55 and 70-200 mm lenses. Wanted to own a mirrorless camera now. What would you suggest?
Great review..... but it's super disappointing that Sony did not including a second card slot, closing shutter during lens changes, and better quality screens. I would gladly pay a bit more for these features... Unfortunately, we still don't have a professional camera in their line to compete with Fuji. 👎👎
Can´t believe they just gave it one card slot! I wanted it as second body to my a7IV for weddings. But with only one card slot for weddings it could only serve as 3rd body and for that it´s too expensive. Too bad, I was really looking forward to this camera. But thanks for the great (as always) video!
@@MonicaHolly143 FX30 is a strongly video centric camera, can´t even shoot AF-C as far as I know. For taking photos (+video) at a wedding the FX30 wouldn´t work at all. Sony has released a ton of great video centric cameras lately, but not so much for hybrid ot photography first shooters, unfotunately.
Very nice hands-on, it really showed what we're interested in. I think Sony did a good job with this camera, we really needed the upgrade. Maybe I will buy it, not sure yet. Can someone tell me, what Julia is using to record her camera screen?
Most likely an Atomos Ninja V, but any on camera monitor recorder. You have the option of outputting clean HDMI (without the camera's interface) or as is (dirty).

Then I’d have to repeat all of the above again and again when I want to place it back in place.

but then you're forced to deal with Fuji's AF which is worse than the Nikon Z6
I don't think Sony really considers APS-C to be a "professional" format.
❤
Can´t believe they just gave it one card slot! I wanted it as second body to my a7IV for weddings. But with only one card slot for weddings it could only serve as 3rd body and for that it´s too expensive. Too bad, I was really looking forward to this camera. But thanks for the great (as always) video!
Fx30 exist
@@MonicaHolly143 FX30 is a strongly video centric camera, can´t even shoot AF-C as far as I know. For taking photos (+video) at a wedding the FX30 wouldn´t work at all. Sony has released a ton of great video centric cameras lately, but not so much for hybrid ot photography first shooters, unfotunately.
FX30 is a video camera (and a far superior video camera to the A6700) but isn’t for photo at all.
Come on, this argument is getting old. Just buy a reliable SD Card. Remember we used to shoot film?

A7iii vs a6700 is an interesting video
I need this to be the E10 mark 2.
Hi where you get the Dulce lightroom
Pack? Thanks
what is your low light experience with it is like? is it finally matching full frame? i
been waiting for the day apsc matches FF performance
What about overheating, does it overheat even for photography or its just videos.
Still undecided between this and the Fujifilm Xs-20
Hi! What memory card do you recommend? I have this camera Sony 6700. :)
