On April 7, 1994, Federal Express Flight 705, a McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30 cargo jet carrying electronics equipment across the United States from Memphis, Tennessee, to San Jose, California, was the subject of a hijack attempt by Auburn R. Calloway, a Federal Express employee facing possible dismissal at a hearing scheduled for the following day for having lied about his flight hours. He boarded the scheduled flight as a deadhead passenger carrying a guitar case concealing several hammers and a speargun. He tried to switch off the aircraft's cockpit voice recorder (CVR) before takeoff. Once airborne, he attempted to kill the crew with hammers so their injuries would appear consistent with an accident rather than a hijacking. - Развлечения

That title is WILD, I foresee this episode of Detective Ridiculous going mainstream and pulling in a lot of non Warhammer fans.
Low key they might want to make a second channel for that reason. I like this content as well so no sweat off my back, but sometimes dividing between two communities isnt good cause it can mess with clickthrough rates which is bad for algorithm
@@THE_MOONMAN I’m in the same boat as you are ultimately. I like Detective Ridiculous just as much as Adeptus Ridiculous but I could see someone stumbling across an episode Detective Ridiculous and being disappointed when they check out the channel and see it’s mostly Warhammer content.
@@thomas_dries exactly! I like both types of content so hopefully they're not at eachothers expense.
I understand not wanting to start a whole new channel though, especially as true crime is super over saturated.
Though I'd imagine that they'd get enough AdRic fans going to sub for it to gain traction. Idk enough about the algorithm to give any real advice though.
I just know second channel is usually the move for big channels
I would also vote for a second channel so I can show det ric to my true crime loving friends without having to explain that this started as an April fools joke on a Warhammer podcast
@@TheD736 I feel so dumb for not realizing its an April fools thing. That makes a lot more sense if it's a one off. I thought they were just branching their content out. Doing April fools a day early is sneaky AF 😂
Can confirm I'm the viewer from South America that didn't realize FedEx stood for Federal Express. Thank you Bricky.
As a fedex warehouse employee this sounds right. Most of us are crazy and we do a lot of things that would have us reported to HR
As an Amazon warehouse employee I couldn’t agree more
Y'all are heroes
You keep the world going 'round. Wish you lads got paid better, but I appreciate you nonetheless~
Worked at FedEx, OTP and Preload for many years. I've had truckers try to intimidate me, I've had hostile coworkers try shit in trailers... those people didn't know that my last job was in Marine infantry with two back to back tours in Fallujah Iraq. Hand to hand combat was my religion. Happy to be part of the proud if not advertised set of veterans that have worked our hours at FedEx post service and made sure it all still got there in a timely fashion while putting would be assailants in their place.
@@Teyl1 again, y'all are heroes
Love the imagery that some dudes are duking it out whilst the plane tumbles and rolls, sending them flying all over the place
Look, I'm just saying... this is now the second plane hijacking story we've seen on Detective Ridiculous, and we're STILL waiting on ghosts
Ghosts?
@@woodlefoof2 in the first episode, that was one of the things they said they might do an episode on
@@Zivon96 ooh okay, I might need to recheck that then.

Holy shit! How did Captain Sully get a movie and this hasn't!? That guy hit a goose and fucked up his plane, this guy flew a DC10 like a god damned jet fighter and then landed it perfectly after beating the fuck out of some terrorists WITH A FUCKING PLANE!?!?!
I know! I’m thinking of how it could play out too! I personally would have the main character be the villain. Seems the most interesting way to tell it. Backstory for first act, with past in military, love of wife and kids etc etc, second act is the hijacking, maybe just say he was going to 9/11 a building, it’s Hollywood so accuracy be damned. Third act is courtroom with the final scene being him looking despondently into a rowdy prison.
Maybe an after credit scene of the HR lady being just completely out of the loop going “where is he?” Making a comment about turning some slap on the wrist into a 1 or 2 day suspension if he is much later to this meeting.
Because, he was never actually fired, he just assumed he was going to be.
I like the idea of if they made a movie the guys that got hit have flashbacks to their time in service and that "self" of them takes over in the moment since they're a bit on the loopy side
Sully got his movie because his event was over a (more) heavily-populated (and media-saturated) city and happened in a time period where information is quicker to disseminate. that morning in 2009, at least two major broadcast networks were reporting on Sullenberger's flight because it was metaphorically happening right outside their windows. That gave the event market-share and made the movie profitable.
Because it is a quick and relatively straight forward story, at the very most it'd be a short film of 20-minutes or a single action scene. There's not enough story to make it into a feature film like Sully was.
Sully landed in the water but in front of two million people. Plenty of flight crews have done way more impressive thing than that. Just google Captain Al Haynes
Oh my god i just noticed the theory board in the back 😂

I was dying of laughter from the sheer insanity of what DK was describing.
Imagine having to explain to someone that their package was going to be late, due to the flight crew having to fight a hijacker in Zero-G
MW3 plane shoot out vibes
Having worked at the customer end of shipping, it would have been nice to have this reason for a late package-most of the time we have no info 😅
"Your package is stuck in Dallas airport due to an attempted air hijacking, and is expected to be delivered in 2-5 business days....what the fck?!"
-some rando
This is one of my favorite stories. It might be the greatest overreaction to an upcoming HR meeting ever.
Yes, he embellished his flight hours from his naval service, which is bad, and he should not have done. He was also a pilot who flew in a Viking, an anti-submarine jet for the US Navy. Carriers are always hurting for decent pilots. In all likelihood he would have been reprimanded and ordered to take more flight hours if needed.
Instead, he decided to do an insane murder-suicide and try to 9/11 FedEx for the insurance money for his kids. Now he's sitting in prison with the astonishingly rare conviction of being an Air Pirate.
The flight crew are hard as hell, and its a damn shame they were too hurt to fly again. I really hope FedEx took care of those guys.
Can confirm as a FedEx employee that they do take care of their own. They likely got our old retirement plan that basically sets you for life. I wouldn't be surprised if there was even more that they were, honestly! FedEx is one of the most ethical companies in the world. (Literally, they got an award for it a few years ago)

@@RuenUsque fair enough. I don't work in a hub so I can't say that it's bad or not. 🙂
I also remember an aircraft piracy incident where the attacker was under fire for multiple instances of sexual harrassment of both airline and hotel staff, but I can't tell if it was this event or the one where the plane impacted the side of a mountain.

This feels like it could be a skit from that Airplane! movie.
"I wonder what's taking my package so long?"
*Cuts to this whole damned scenario in the plans*
"I just hope it gets here before Timmy's birthday."
*Captain beating a hijacker to death with a hammer on an upside down plane.*
Ha!
...alright, yea, I'm curious.
The crew of that plane was simply built DIFFERENT
“We’ll I guess he wasn’t actually trying to kill them” no bricky, he was gonna kill them in a crash
People survive plane crashes all the time. He was planning to kill himself.
Though yeah probably he was not too concerned about killing his co-workers.
I imagine the hijacker had a moment when the crew was getting up, when uplifting music started playing, and he realized this was not his movie XD
I worked at the fedex hub in indy for a few years and this plane remained in service. I worked on it a few times and everyone always loves to point it out. The plane was finally retired in December
Also wanna add they will for sure pull flight crew for being over one minute their allowed hours. If they were in the air no problem so pilots were always in a hurry to get off the ground but even if waiting just to take off and they went over their time we would pull them back in to switch crew.
Worth Mentioning, the plane in this story (N306FE) was repaired and continued to fly for FedEx for almost 30 more years before finally being retired from the fleet at the end of 2022 but not before making ANOTHER emergency landing, this time because of a small fire in the cargo area.
When the fight part of this story started, you know that X Gonna Give It To Ya started playing as the crew started getting up. What absolute legends.
Just going to say regarding the lady in the beginning -
Most of us did come for 40k originally, but I definitely appreciate these as well. Keep em up!
My dad was actually in the main Memphis hub when this happened. Rumor around the hub was that they were the target. If the guy succeeded, then he would've died. Also said that when the plane opened, there was a river of blood running down the ramp. Gnarly stuff.
Right off the bat, bricky had nice meetup with a Detective ridiculous fan.
wtf-ery aside, if you didn't tell someone this was from history, you could get away with thinking this is a DnD campaign, like the DM is asking for a death saving throw each turn, and each pilot is rolling double 20's somehow
When I saw the video title, I was sure that this was some kind of April Fools' joke.
Now having watched the video, all I can say is: Get Rotated.
The navy pilots got reset to factory navy setting, default aggression and hold my beer
The sheer fact the plane survived is absolutely insane
I want a short film of this with the climactic fight set to Kickstart My Heart.
As a viewer from Norway, I had no idea that FedEx stood for Federal Express. Good job Bricky.
Wow, what a terrifying story!
Crazy what desperation can do to someone.
My Father to told me something years ago that has stuck with me ever since,
"There is nothing more dangerous in this world, than a man with no hope."
A couple experiences since have solidified this as true to me, now whenever i see stuff like this, its the first thing i think of.
I don’t wish too invalidate your experiences or lessons. But would It be possible that a father protecting his family is more dangerous?
@@erebusfulgur6338 No, there's still plenty of hope and rational thought behind that. It's not fight and/or die. It's not the primal reaction of a dying beast. Once all hope is gone there's only fight, and once you have no more fight in you is when you accept death. That doesn't even mean the fight is violent. Sometimes sick people just give up and promptly die.
After this I seriously recommend the case of the Burger Chef Murders.
Its official. This is my favorite video on the channel. Period.
I mean... If any of us was a Navy Fighter Pilot and in that situation...
Why not, grab the controls and screaming "LET'S SEE WHAT THE BABY CAN DO!" *Plays Kenny Loggins - Dangerzone*
(Personally would have said over the coms to Air Traffic Control on the way back "Tower, this is Ghost Rider. Requesting a flyby." and just pray for the response "Negative Ghost Rider, The pattern is full." As could easily blame it on the blood loss after)
But, shout out to the DC-10 for stepping up to the plate.

A commercial airliner flying upside down sounds ridiculous. They have a maximum bank angle for a reason.
It’s silly as hell but strictly possible. The guy who hijacked an airliner and did a bunch of stunts with it did fly it upside for a brief time I think.
Yeah, amazingly the plane involved here remained in service for at least a decade. You'd think putting it under that much stress would damage it enough that it'd be deemed too expensive to fix and just be written off, but nope.

Just speculation but vacating the last charge might have been a plea deal?
If he pleads guilty it skips a trial, which he may not want that information gone over again, and also costs the court less time and therefore, money.
But it also mean he has bo right to appeal, unless he can prove he pleaded guilty under duress. Which is obviously hard to prove, even if is true(not saying thats the case here just in general)
So yes, attemped piracy is the big charge that carries the sentence, so dropping the other charges for him to agree to a plea, makes sense cause than hes locked in with that sentence.
If you accept the plea than theres no way for you to use legalese to bullshit your way out. So essentially its quicker and more effective to jjst have everyone agree.
And likewise, many of those extra charges that dont actually carry the sentence, thats so if you DO go to trial, theres more to prove or disprove, so its harder for then to slink out of everything.
Where as theoretically, if theres not enough evidence for the largest charge, than at least they get him with the crew interference typa thing.
Its basically bargaining. You get as many charges as you can so you can bargain with them to plea, or you can use those smaller charges as context of what they did or what a liece of garbage they are etc.
It's upside down, so it has to be australian
Not only that, the the thumbnail is a mirrored image.
30:30 Standard procedure for emergency landings is to burn fuel if possible. 2 Reasons:
1: The plane gets lighter
2: Less fuel for any fire that might happen.
That sounds like 80s plane crash disaster movie plot summary.
To be fair, the movie you're thinking of is likely flight, which is also a true and absolutely insane story.
Dude flying a plane upside down on cocaine and saving like 300 lives except his misstress. Flight is too crazy of a story to even believe its true 😅
Before Bricky asked if Federal Express as FedEx, I legit thought he was going to ask if cargo planes still had seats, for some reason.
