The establishment of the Roanoke Colony (/ˈroʊənoʊk/ ROH-ə-nohk) was an attempt by Sir Walter Raleigh to found the first permanent English settlement in America. The colony was founded in 1585, but it was visited by a ship in 1590 and the crew found that the colonists had disappeared under unknown circumstances. It has come to be known as the Lost Colony, and the fate of the 112 to 121 colonists remains unknown to this day. - Развлечения
Fun fact about the hunt for El Dorado: while traveling, the soaniards threw away chunks of silver they found, thinking it worthless compared to the gold they were totally gonna find. The silver was platinum. They literally threw away platinum on the quest fir gold.
Lmao, the treasure they were seeking was literally at the palm of their hands and they STILL couldn’t get it 😂
That's Spain. Be handed a golden opportunity. " I DON'T WANT IT. >:L "
@@Khornecussionmore like a platinum opportunity. Man, I really couldn't let this lame joke go :(
well, a bit of anacronysm, at the time they didn't know of the many applications platinum has to us, but yeah, really makes them look stupid
Not just that, but the rumors they had of civilizations with a lot of gold. They did find them and took all their gold. But because the natives placed a different value on gold and wore all their gold stock openly, rather than hoarding it away like europeans did. The Spaniards became convinced that they were hiding EVEN MORE somewhere else even though the natives gave all they had or had it stolen.
El Dorado is funny cause it wasn't a native myth, it was entirely wishful thinking from the spaniards who just would never accept any amount of gold they found as enough
"There is no magic, there is no serial killer, and *there is no Queen of England* ."

John White: "Hey, leave a note telling me where you're going if you leave."
Roanoke site: Has a note saying 'Croatoan' on it
Stories from the Croatoan: "Oh yeah, some Englishmen joined us a while back."
Europeans: "What could possibly have happened?!?! What a mystery!!!!!"
We may never solve this mystery
The story of the natives saying theyd been joined by white people is all "allegedly someone said this." Just like allegedly their native interpreter led the natives there to kill the guy on the beach. And they did eventually search Croatoan, there was no colony, and nobody born in europe still there if any ever had been. And no conclusive DNA evidence in the modern natives tested.
That’s exactly what they want you to think.
Nope it was aliens, maybe try thinking rationally once in your life.
Bricky: "Why _are_ we here?"
DK: "Just to suffer."
Clearly Trazyn the Infinite started building his museum rather early in human history.
One of my history classes (either middle school or high school) covered the Roanoke colony. In terms of the facts, they only had enough to fill one page in the textbook, but it really caught my attention. The idea of a colony's population missing and we still haven't figured out how or where they went is an incredible mystery.
I'm Canadian and they teach us what happened was the European colonists joined the natives. The natives in that region have a lot of blue eyes and they use this as evidence that the colonists joined with them
I was kind of surprised when Bricky said he's never heard of Roanoke. It was a pretty standard part of US history class even 20-30 years ago.
I am in the camp that at least some of them were absorbed into native tribes. There are records from a hundred or so years later in which people who talked to the local tribes had some natives say their ancenstors had come on boats from far away and knew how to read from books like the English.
"Hay all the people disappeared from here writing the location of a nearby village, let's NEVER GO THERE."
Dumbest mystery in history imo.
I haven't watched the episode yet but didn't they go there and not Find anyone? Not even signs anyone set up camp?
@@warhawk9566 they found a bunch of mixed looking natives
@markhalm9889 and over a hundred of years later many native tribes had stories that some of their ancestors were english colonists.
So yeah, absolutely some of them got absorbed into the nearby tribes
@@thewerdna if I remember right the people there have an accent entirely unique to that singular location because of the mixture of people.
I stand by the theory that the people of Roanoke were absorbed into friendly/local tribes. The town being raised and nothing but the walls left probably was someone’s decision from the local tribes as a sort of “warning” or memorial for any of the people lost.
Who wants a detective ridiculous about Jack the Ripper? Or what about the New Jersey shark attacks of 1916? Tsavo lions?

Before watching this fully, I kinda of knew that Roanoke was originally the name of a river because I heard it from a YTbr called Roanoke Gaming which he named his channel after a wrecked spacecraft from Dead Space 3.

Had my fingers crossed for a cryptid episode, this is cool too though
The people demand an episode voiced by Shy, called Defective Ridiculous! 😂
Shy is mute my guy.
Pulled from the web:
"In one of the snippets, it is mentioned that Shy uses a female, computerized voice to speak in her videos due to the fact that she herself has no voice."
"Shy is mute in real life, and mentions that she lost her voice in a Q&A video."
@@TyrantToppat That would be the joke. The video would have Shy being silent but the guys will reply and banter as though she's talking.

I would like to see the Detective Ridiculous on the Franklin Expedition to find the Northwest Passage. The disappearance of the expedition and cannibalism allegations would make a good, long episode
Hank of the hill 😂😂 what a throwback, king of the hill ytps are the absolute best.
I remember hearing a really dumb theory about the disappearance of the Roanoke Colony. Someone tried explaining it by saying a Zombie Plague (Yes I wish I was joking) has somehow popped up and spread on the Island, infecting some, others getting eaten and then the Plague just died off since it was on an Island with no real connection to the Mainland.
The Aliens theory and this theory are always gonna exist when it comes to mysteries such as this, I think some people do it as a joke since if you can't outright explain something such as a disappearance, you bring out the Aliens theory. Not sure where the whole Zombie Plague idea came from though in relation to Roanoke, since it's a very flawed theory that can be dismissed almost instantly given what we do know about the Colony after the everyone vanished.
I don't know if this is the origin of the zombie idea, but I do know that in the TV show 'Supernatural', they had a thing that was called the "Croatoan Virus" that would basically turn people into blood thirsty rage zombies, then 24 hours after the virus first started infecting people everyone that was infected with it just disappeared, and the show had made it a thing within the story that the virus is the reason as to why the Roanoke Colony disappeared as it had popped up and infected the colonists. Now as I said I don't know if this is where the idea came from or that idea inspired the show, but I thought it was interesting.
@@thebonkgoblin5200 That is interesting, maybe the theory I heard does have some roots from that show, either way it's a really outrageous theory to say the least
That was from the book, World War Z. Just depicting one of the many fictional outbreaks of the Solanum Virus in that universe
"Proceededs to brake it down (dose the thugger shacker) Bam, bam, bam, bam , bam"
Maybe I am misremembering but didn't someone find a contemporary account of a tribe with like 5 blonde haired "Native" children like 40 years later in the same area. Two of them were fishing or something and a dude just followed them because he wanted to buy or sell shit?
Oh damn, Roanoke? This will be good.
Its so weird hearing my home state being meme’d on so hard xD the Detective Ridiculous version of the Croatoa story is a trip
They went native.
WHERES THE FANTASY EPISODE YALL PROMISED
I want it to be known that DK pronounced "Wanchese" horribly, horribly wrong.
But I do wan chese
I'm from NC and this has always fascinated me since we STILL can't confirm what happened
Im from NC and we learn about this in like middle school, and my school took a trip out there to see the area where the colony was believed to be
38:20 they recently did dna tests to try and find remnants and proof of the Viking visitors amongst the native Americans, but it seems the trail of tears wiped any of the natives with Viking dna out.
….however… they also tested in Iceland and found people there with Native American dna… like… enough to conclusively state that some of the First Nation tribes came back with the Vikings when they left.
The trail of tears concerned natives in the southern US. Notable tribes like the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muskogee-Creek and Seminoles.
The tribes encountered by Vikings would have been in Newfoundland, Canada, and maybe the great lakes region if we are being generous.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is that nothing you said makes sense you clearly don't know what you are talking about.
Loved the episode. I hope we get the oak island mystery soon.
tzeench wanted to play banished but didn't have a pc so he kidnapped the colonists to play banished irl
Just stopping by to say: Magnus did the best he could with the information he had available to him.
Roanoke has always been an interesting topic , as well an event in time used for many cultural oddities and horrors. I love these Detective videos, wish I could hear them properly like the before times lmao.
I love these history/mystery episodes.
Yes, DK. I am wearing a cap rn. Thanks for noticing.
DK should make a detective ridiculous video about Ötzi, but at first make it seem like a modern(ish) murder mystery.
Right off the bat, I'm wearing broken headphones.
Speaking of CoD, Warzone added Warhammer 40k skins and weapons. Playing as a guardsman with a lasgun is amazing. You also get a chain sword and other fun skins.
I won't like I didn't like these at the start but they're really growing on me and I'm starting to want more lol 😅
I like the idea that they split up. Maybe a few decided to travel back to Englend and others decided to stay, some doing their own thing. I can see quite a few deciding to intergrate. I can see those with young going native
Homie shows up like, "Dude... Where's my car?"
The island has a lot of history. A civil war battle occurred there, plus there was another colony on the island that ended up being very influential. Look up the Roanoke Freedmen’s Colony.
love that it's an actual Mystery🙏
I get that simple and clean. I get that ham.
Also my head snapped at Sir Walter Raleigh.
52:13 nurgle would definitely take the opportunity, but nurgle also isn’t exactly going out of his way to step on anyone’s toes in regards to the other chaos gods.
He’ll give a marginal effort but take a better opportunity if said opportunity presents itself.
If anything he’ll ignore the colonists and go after the Indians who are dying and suffering way worse.
One of the best AHS season
This is an episode of Doctor Who waiting to happen
My favorite take on Roanoke is from the Werewolf: The Apocalypse (Revised Edition) rulebook. From page 39, "Garou [werewolf] bards sing epics celebrating the valor of the Croatan. This tribe was once the proud guardian of North America's shores. It gave its collective life to banish the Wyrm beast known as Eater-of-Souls, which had traveled to the New World with the Roanoke colonists. Only the carvings on a gnarled tree memorialize the Croatan's valiant deeds, but the Garou remember."
the motive to find el dorato made alot more sense back then. it was alot less mythical.
First off I just find it hilarious that Bricky had never heard of the colony of Roanoke. One of the main things I remember from AP US History that wasn't mentioned in the episode is that the area is a marsh and a big theory is that a large amount of the colonists might have died of malaria which led to the decline of the colony which led to the disappearance
Havent watched yet, but this one seems spooky cause I've heard of a place called Roanoak, so to know sketchy shit happened there is kinda wild and chilling
In NC we also have hurricanes an could be washed out, whole coastal area is marshland.
Where's Roanoke Tales?
need to collab with him like they do with Kirioth on Adeptus Ridiculous, they can talk about mysterious mysteries and the abomination that is the anglerfish LOL
If you like this kinda stuff and Roanoke I'd recommend Bedtime Stories. They're real good too, but less video game or biology.
Lore Lodge on youtube has a great video on the Roanoke colony. If anyone wants a more detailed breakdown.
North Carolinian here. Manteo was baptized as a Christian and learned English and was completely integrated into the colony. Wanchez (Won-cheese) was also baptized and integrated but never really drank the coolaid. It’s a beautiful place in the Outer Banks also the colony is tiny as are the palisades which to this day still have croatoa carved into them.
The masculine urge to look for El Dorado.
I really want DK to cover the Axeman of New Orleans
Is this casual butchery or have we entered ranked butchery? 😂😂😂
I recommend that lemino video about this
Why are there 2 brickies
The weirdest thing about Gladiator is that normally you juice up historical villains for movies. Gladiator did the opposite, Commodus was such an insane murderous jock stereotype in real life who would make everyone come watch him murder midgets with fake swords and little soldier suits in the arena and beat cripples to death or massacre endangered animals for fun that they toned him way down into Joaquin's slimy politician guy.
Do the Portlock, Alaska murder mysteries, and by extention, big foot, and cryptids.
John white the first dad that went out for ciggys and milk lol
YEAAAAAH I WROTE A REPORT ABOUT THIS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL
If youd go to a pub the brits infact are almost interchangeable to orks.
Are they really lost to history if we remember them to this day?
There was actually another lost colony in what is now Maine called Popham Colony. They made it about 1 year before the harsh winter, hostile natives and poor growing season forced them to abandon it. They did so by builting the first european style ship built in the americas, then sailed south to join the new Jamestown Colony.
How did you lose it? Its in Roanoke you dingus.
Shy, please make.these guys do at least one episode on Dante
man, title made me think they got RoanokeGaming to collab with them for this
Let’s talk about the lore and morphology. Starting with the feet…
Detective Ridiculous about the case how GW forgot about Sisters of Silence?
I would like you to know I just happened to open Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories right as KH was mentioned. Wild timing.
Nurgle brings endurance and acceptance of the fate you have been given.
Tzeentch brings hope that your plans will work, like a boat etc, so he took them out at see if he did it.
If Khorne was involved, they raided all others nearby
If SLaanesh was involved they all probably did slaneesh stuff, then tried to bathe it of in an Icebath, got frozen under under as the hole froze and died pounding the ice feeling all those emotions.
My money is on Tzentch being a troll, or Nurgle "blessing" them.
I grew up in the rough area where Is Roanoke would have been. It is regularly hit by hurricanes 2-3 times a year something the Brits wouldnt have known how to handle, could survivors intermingled with the natives? Yea. They probably died in a flood and the settlement was washed away.
Why cant I find this episode on YT music?

There is no way they could have build a boat out of house materials that could withstand atlantic ocean waters. Most of them died from starvation or natives, maybe a few would be allowed to integrate with natives.
Regarding two boats: cool motive, still piracy.
My theory is they all died and he found them but raleigh made him cover it up So he could keep his claim

It was definitely aliens. Specifically... Drukhari.
tsavo lions might make a good episode

Brutal Trial and Error
Attempt #3 of asking for an episode of Ken McElroy.
There is a bit of missing context here. The Europeans did bring disease, but this was before they understood spread vectors or societal immunity. As for their inability to make food. There were several factors of European vs NA soil/climate that forced crop issues. It was a basic case of people not knowing any better at the time and when shit got bad they withdrew to what they knew.
Not excusing the actions of the settlers, but the tone at the beginning needed a bit more thought. Besides, without them we wouldn't be on this high horse to complain on.
Yes , kingdom hearts , something that definitely isn’t “simple and clean“ when it come to the lore.
Honestly, it's super simple when you get it in chronological order. It's just told wildly out of order
