A few stuff worth mentioning: 1. Magnus had a secret plan to delve further into the warp, he had Perurabo build him a gadget. Good old Peter built it and broke it in front of Magnus to remind him of Big E's warnings. A cute little moment between bff primarchs and good foreshadowing for Magnus' fall. 2. Ahriman befriended a Space Wolf rune priest and showed him some of his psychic research and abilities. That Space Wolf proceeded to share all of those secrets at Nikeah to shame the Thousand Sons while presenting himself as entirely different. 3. Magnus did try and convince Horus to remain loyal. I always saw tzeentch taking his eye as a little metaphorical. His right eye also being a symbol of his ability to view himself, to introspect. Magnus was tricked into blinding himself to his own faults which led to his arrogance, then his fall/ascension.
There is a weird symmetry between Magus's missing his right eye and Kairos. Kairos's right head can see all possible futures, and after after sacrificing his right eye Magus begins to lack forethought about the worst of his decisions, only caring about what helps most in that moment.
@@aguspuig6615 yeah but kinda in reverse. Odin sacrifices his eye for wisdom and knowledge where as Magnus unknowingly sacrificed his wisdom by sacrificing his eye.
Aye, it's meant to be a twisted mockery of it. Odin, Tarhunt, Horus, the Graeae, all lack at least one eye and became more wise/clever as a result. But for Magnus, it was merely an opening for Chaos. Once he agreed to that small act, he became more susceptible to every other temptation Tzeentch dangled his way.
if theres ever a 40k equivalent to the end times, therell be a moment where magnus andruss and all their sons will face a common enemy: a vacuum cleaner
Magnus was the Primark who fell to Chaos for his sons. Everything he did wrong was either for them or for the Emperor. "The road to hell is paved with good intentions".
Except for the time he killed his son to prevent a warning of the wolves approach, the time he killed his son for killing Alivia sureka, the many, many times he almost killed Ahriman...
Mortarion disagrees. Wasn't that the whole reason he sold out to Nurgle after Typhus fucked his legion over? I mean, he was probably never going to be loyal to begin with, but the Death Guard likely would've been *Traitors* but not *Heretics* if Typhus didn't exist.

When it comes to warhammer lore, I am a firm believer in “game workshop is dumb as hell, so I’m gonna pick and choose the parts of lore I like and that’s what’s real”
I've always had the headcannon that Magnus is extremely intelligent but also extremely emotional leading to his impulsive decision. Warp power is tied to emotions and Magnus is one of the most powerful psykers in the universe. The Eldar have the paths to keep them from falling into the emotional states that led to the Fall but Magnus did not.
another thing, ALL OF MAGNUS DUELS GET INTERRUPTED. Like..in the Duel between him and russ, Magnus is about to deliver a killing Blow to Russ, but then the two actual wolf pets of Russ jump him, distract him and give russ time to recover and hit his eye.

The kind shard, the "Noble Shard of Magnus", was actually used to create the Grey Knight Janus. Magnus was FURIOUS that Malcador just casually used a piece of his soul to make a Grey Knight and it was one of the reasons he rejected a last-minute team switch. Oh, wait, they mentioned that a bit later.
@@blimp9741 To be fair, the situation at the time was a clusterfuck of cluster fucks. It's a line in TTS once again, paraphrased to "A Caring Parental Figure is the Greatest Defense against the Vileness of Chaos". Had the Emperor seen that he was a father *figure* to the Primarchs, and played that part, there was the chance he could have avoided the worst of the heresy
@Dracobyte one of the recent books had the emperor talk to malcador about the primarchs. He intended to reform the ones that could live after war, and give peace to the ones that could never leave the battlefield.
@@Mare_Man Yes, originally angron was angry due to the butchers nails being unable to be fixed without killing him and big E didnt want to kill his son. In the retcon he is angry because E teleported him away in a extremely out of character move.
Fun Fact: one of the Primarchs (besides Magnus) who broke the vow of the Council of Nikea the most was actually the Lion. When he and the Dark Angels traveled trough the warp, Daemons attacked their ship and they didn’t know how to fight them effectively, until a Librarian started using his powers. The Lion in that moment revoked the voew until they’re in safe space again, but their Chaplin, Nemiel, was heavily against it and was basically ready to snitch on the Emperor for that. And the Lion, the calm and collected soul he is, punched Nemiel‘s head clean off which was one of the reasons which led to Caliban rebelling against the Lion.
I mean, Jaghatai Khan held funerals for his sons, and went crazy because a single one was killed by an ork, then was saddened at having to cut down his own sons when they turned traitor after Prospero. Haven't heard any other primach giving that level of care to their marines

What Bricky in his politically disingenuous "wisdom" is that half-Eldar were literally only in Rogue Trader (AKA first edition, back when the lore wasn't finalised and things like the Sinsei were still a thing and Space Marines weren't transhumans and just the foreign legion in power armour), so they haven't really been canon since 2nd edition. Hopefully this clears things up.
magnus in a nutshell Magnus: oh noo my hous is burning i have to save my dad voice from a van: i got you buddy i have something that my help Magnus: oh thank you stranger (after using it) ohh my got is fucki*ng flamethrower
I am upset about the female Custodes. Mainly because their codex is horrible, and I am now afraid that Eldar are gonna fair even worse than with the current detachment. (Which is horrible for balancing, and fluff) And because it shows that if you are not spacemarines - you wont receive any lore. If even Custodes get no new lore - what hope do Aeldari have? A very distressed Eldar.
It’s a shame people forget that while Russ fought Magnus and won: 1- Magnus was directing escape routes for his people. 2- He was helping the Sons via warp against the Wolves. 3- Actually putting up a good fight against Russ. 4- Magnus is a nerd, he wasn’t a battle fanatic like Russ. That he punched a heart of Russ out while all this was going on- speaks more for Russ’ ability to fight, holding back or not.
@@drakeyork241 yeah Magnus is basically the superman of the primarchs. He would blatantly win 19v1 if the story isn't able to nerf him to balance the fight
@@teejay1646 he is a stronger psyker than Malcador, the man who was so strong he made threats to the primarchs such as “I will unmake you” with said threats being treated VERY seriously by the primarch whom was at the time being Vader force choked. Or the time Malcador was being choked out by Mortarian and was still calm enough to question himself as to exactly how much force would be needed to escape from Mortarian’s grasp without being so extreme that Mortarian would hate him further and try to kill him due to his distain for psykers. We can also guess how strong Malcador is based on the fact that his personal throne is decorated with two skulls. One skull being marked II while the other being marked XI. The Roman numerals for 2 and 11, the same numbers as the “missing” legions. Need I explain further. If magnus is stronger than that, and not by an insignificant margin, (Malcador having had his soul extinguished from a few hours on the throne while magnus was designed to be able to power it indefinitely.) Then he could most certainly bully any of the other primarchs any day of the week, save a tag team of both dorn and leman (both of whom have warp supressing abilities.)with a few hundred to a few thousand sister of silence spectators or POSSIBLY mortarion if he didn’t actively suppress all of his psyker abilities as well as a large chunk of his physical abilities due to the passive warp based physical enhancement all primarchs enjoy that Mortarian actively tries to cut off. But yeah, if it was all 20 other primarchs(yes, I’m including omegon as his own separate primarch) vs Magnus, I’d bet on Magnus.
Once again, if the Emperor was just 1% of a better father, maybe one of the traitor legions would have remained loyal. If Big E had just said something to the effect of "You are all psykers, to single out one son for his gifts is to be a hypocrite. Especially you, Mortarion." then maybe Magnus would have remained loyal. Also, if Big E had just given Magnus ANY DETAILS on what was in the warp, then maybe he wouldn't have been mislead by Chaos.
People like to blame the Emperor for everything, but in reality the Primarchs all had their own critical flaws. Magnus' was his ego. For the Emperor to put the time i to each Primarchs (all adults by the way) that people say he should have, he would need way more time then is realistically possible.
@@williamings773I think while Big E was correct in his assumption that the webway must be completed to save humanity, he screwed up in trying way too hard to speed run it. He had enough time that he could have at least stopped half of the traitors from turning on him. I will concede it’s not entirely his fault. And we still don't know if Alpharius Omegon were loyal or traitor in their entirety.

When SoS can function outside of support team aganist daemons while actual factions kills them then maybe one day. They are so niche I forget those gals exist most of the time
Only thing that pisses me off about female custodes is that text to speech is no longer around so we don't get wacky memes from that show. Would have loved for our favourite oiled up totally straight dude bros meeting with their sisters
As a KSons fan, I've always loved what a tragic character Magnus was. Nothing but the best of intentions, massive love for his sons, blinded by his own intelligence, seemingly small mistakes turned massive, betrayed by his hypocrite brothers and overly secretive father (Rune priests? Give me a break) and plain old bad decisions. There are just SO many different points where his story could've been different, so many times where the smallest nudge in the right direction would've changed everything, so many times he could've come down from the ledge, but he fell all the same, further than most and certainly further than he deserved.
1:10:40 he's not naive or a nice guy that finishes last. He's good hearted, but he always looks for himself first, the second he gave up his eye by his own volition, he became willingly blind: - He's told about the danger, he finds a powerfull entity and doesn't ask himself: maybe I should bring this to bigE before signing anything. - He's told not to do magic, instead of standing up for his stuff, he goes sneaky. - He's trying to warn the emperor, but he really seems like he's taking the best option that will make "magic save the day". - he feels indecisive all the time because he does not really resolved himself to his and prosperous punishment. He never really mean to do anything he said, he just said it to be left alone, knowing he would do whatever he wanted anyway. It's actually a reference to Osiris ignoring set, and refusing to deal with it, until it blows in his face. The Eye of Horus represents literally looking at the situation.
There was also that time Peter Turbo pulled Magnus aside to show him a cool recreation of a warp gadget that if used properly could help navigate through the warp. And as Magnus was needing out over it Perty hulk smashed it right there and basically said "Stop doing warp shenanigans. Dad said its bad"
I think the biggest issue with adding female custodes is that it is so clearly just being used as a shield for GW. They didnt do it because it made the story better, it didn't clarify something confusing, it is literally just for social points and so that any criticisms surrounding the situations can just be hand waved away with the sexism card. It's just like making Soldier 76 from Overwatch gay despite lore setting up a relationship with Ana, it's just like making Saint 14 and Osiris from Destiny gay despite their relationship being an incredible example of brothers in arms before the change made it into a cringy forced romantic relationship that lacks any soul or real feeling. The entire point of the change was simply social points so they can point and go "look! SEE SEE theres women in the Custodes buy our shit and dont look any farther.
Magnus is probably the closest a Primarch ever gets to being a 'normal' person in a Primarch role, barring Perturabo being a 'tism rep. Everything Magnus does is straight up fairly forgivable and understandable to any normal individual, and that's why I love him. He had no reason to believe the warp/tzeentch was behind his downfall beyond superstition (Tzeentch has helped him every single time he's needed it), he had an understandable urgency to inform the emperor about the HH given just how cataclysmic it was to the galaxy at large, and his shift of demeanour during the burning of Prospero is kind of understandable given Russ immediately began burning his planet and butchering civilians en-masse. Magnus is the equivalent of a normal, kind-hearted person of the modern day being put in the body of a Primarch, and then being torn apart by the 30k/40k setting because, well, you simply don't survive this setting as a normal person. Not even as a Primarch. Magnus absolutely did wrong, but he's far from being at fault.
Guilliman comes across as the most well adjusted to me, especially in 40K. Then again, Guilliman had a loving mother and father long before big E arrived
Russ waited for days trying to contact Magnus to come peacefully. Magnus refused to answer. He had literally locked himself in his tower for a week straight crying and decided he should just let the wolves kill them. He also is incredibly indecisive so after the wolves attacked because they were getting no response, Magnus changed his mind and decided to fight back. Straight up brought it all upon himself.
"Hey magnus I heard you like to learn about magic. Have you met my greatest creation miss frizzle would you like to take a ride on her bus" tzeentch said to magnus while he lay there broken. "Hmmmm? It's a magic school bus"
That would require effort. Much easier to pander and then gaslight everyone complaining about pandering as sexist. Remember, everyone complains about pride flags and black squares on twitter profile pic as performative activism, but they wouldn't do something so cheap if it didn't work on SOMEONE.
@@FullMetalElricI would actually disagree slightly. Having more diversity and creativity in models is a good thing in my book. Even if it is pandering and is probably just GW trying to get points, the result is something that is at the very least neutral. It’s not like they’re forcing people to you to make your custodes all female.
@@AshleyBreadsadding more sisters of silence models is diversity especially since gw has ignored them for the most part. Custodes get way too much attention

Props to the writers who did the Dreadnought in space marine 2.. The coolest and most badass brother in the game who yeeted a statue at a warp drake and wanted to stomp Magnus himself.
Like always, if Big E just acted like a dad just ONCE, there'd be one less lost son. The more I learn about the Primarchs the more I feel this was intentional and Big E just wants the universe in chaos just like the Chaos Gods
For the firefighter analogy, I like to think of it more as Magnus running into the burning building at the suggestion of his corrupt fire chief, who filled his fire hose with gasoline instead of water
Boyo, i dont care if they make the Mam-stodies army next. The greatest issue here is the lazy manner in which they change the lore. It was better when they introduced Primaris, now they inform of their latest retcon by gaslighting through twitter, instead of at least introducing this change through a novel or series. This is lazy.
I'm a very newbie in wh lore and this series has been my intro and i will never forget when bricky talked so passionate about how the sisters were created and how cool it was for them to have an all female with their own lore amd etc and i couldn't agree more. As it was pointed out in the start in the video, in a world of retcons, this one is wtv just one more but the way it was done just leave me sad.
It is absolutely awful how much bricky is underselling the tragedy of Magnus and the thousand sons. They fought against the fate and future and had no chance of winning. They were called 1000 sons from the very beginning. That there was a 1000 left was not a coincidence. Ahriman is talking about this in the thousand sons book. They had great power and were unable to use it to prevent the future that tzeentch was showing them. And the greatest tragedy of Magnus is his hubris that he acknowledges after he breaks into the palace. Also the entity didn't whisper anything it was just there, tempting him with vast amounts of power that he could redirect to break the barrier. I love 1000 sons and their hh book is awesome.

There is a weird symmetry between Magus's missing his right eye and Kairos. Kairos's right head can see all possible futures, and after after sacrificing his right eye Magus begins to lack forethought about the worst of his decisions, only caring about what helps most in that moment.
plus its got all that Odin symbolism too!
Magnus is the personification of the quote:
"We judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their behavior."

The Eldar have the paths to keep them from falling into the emotional states that led to the Fall but Magnus did not.

Magnus did *everything* wrong.
He just had good intentions.
And in his defense tseench himself was working to ensure that Magnus falls from grace. Can we really blame Magnus for being tricked when the god of tricks tricked him?

He was. BL writers daddy issues cant change the og canon.

Mainly because their codex is horrible, and I am now afraid that Eldar are gonna fair even worse than with the current detachment. (Which is horrible for balancing, and fluff)
And because it shows that if you are not spacemarines - you wont receive any lore. If even Custodes get no new lore - what hope do Aeldari have?
A very distressed Eldar.
Oh, oh you're right. Crap.
Love the idea of Magnus bursting into the palace like the Kool-Aid Man.
Matching colour and all.
It’s a shame people forget that while Russ fought Magnus and won:
1- Magnus was directing escape routes for his people.
And don’t forget he was being hard nerfed by all of the sisters of silence and the space wolfs having anti psyker powers like leman’s howl.
If magnus is stronger than that, and not by an insignificant margin, (Malcador having had his soul extinguished from a few hours on the throne while magnus was designed to be able to power it indefinitely.)
Then he could most certainly bully any of the other primarchs any day of the week, save a tag team of both dorn and leman (both of whom have warp supressing abilities.)with a few hundred to a few thousand sister of silence spectators or POSSIBLY mortarion if he didn’t actively suppress all of his psyker abilities as well as a large chunk of his physical abilities due to the passive warp based physical enhancement all primarchs enjoy that Mortarian actively tries to cut off.
But yeah, if it was all 20 other primarchs(yes, I’m including omegon as his own separate primarch) vs Magnus, I’d bet on Magnus.
More things to note:
- It wasn't just the wolf but Custods and Sisters of silence + a Titan legion.

As a custodes player thank you for addressing the recent codex and the shameless retconing for marketing

@@FullMetalElricI would actually disagree slightly. Having more diversity and creativity in models is a good thing in my book.
I wouldn't say the pairing of the topic and news is cataclysmic as we all know Magnus' relationship with a certain Custodian

When DK finally gets a quote right, it's genuinely a bit wholesome how happy he gets.
