I thought gw set up a really cool way for Ahriman to become a weird bedfellow with the imperium and the elder due to yvraine bringing back some thousand sons. Making Ahriman go “well everything I’ve tried has failed might as well” but instead they just changed him from hunting the black library to hunting elder. Big sad
It was the PERFECT set-up to have Ahriman team up with Yvraine to raid Slaanesh's palace for the last sword. Just think of it, Tzeentch would totally be down to knock Slaanesh down a peg if not outright kill it, further they could've brought Guilliman into the fray as well. A Tzeentchian Wizard, a full crew of revitalized Rubrics, an Elder contingent of death worshippers, and the Primarch of the Ultramarines storming the pleasure palace and curbing Fulgrim... It would've been glorious, easy way to kick Slaanesh and Fulgrim to the curb like what Big E did to Mortarion in the Garden.
54:41 Unending MENTAL suffering is very much a Tzeentch thing. Just think of the classic case of any would-be sorcerer stuck for an eternity in a labyrinthine library searching for the one book containing the knowledge they seek, as an example of a very Tzeentch branded type of torture. The important thing to remember about the Chaos Gods is that there's actually a lot of overlap between them; just because suffering broadly is a Slaanesh thing, and to an extent a Nurgle thing, doesn't mean the others don't also indulge in inflicting unspeakable suffering upon mortals. So TL;DR: Chaos intersectionality is a thing.
Another way to put it is that they all love to fuck with mortals, but each one does it in its own special way. Nurgle wants people to despair and succumb to decay, Khorne wants them to become furious beasts, Slaneesh wants souless husks always looking for the next spark of feeling and Tseench to lose themselves in their search of knowledge and power, and also random shenanigans
One interesting thing about the whole "tricking other psykers into becoming helbrute batteries" thing is...if the prospective victim figures it out and manages to turn the tables on the sorcerer, they are generally accepted by the other thousand sons as one of their own. Doesn't happen often but IIRC there's at least one character in one of the novels who got into a 1ksons warband that way.
There is a full trilogy of Ahriman's novels by author John French, who is currently working on a second trilogy for the wily sorcerer (its first entry is already out). They're great reads into what makes Ahriman tick.
Tzaangors DO provide cabal points so long as they control an objective, (and you roll a 4+) so they have their uses and the tzaangor shaman does some good things to buff those units alongside adding an extra cabal point.
Just wanted to say thank you. Been collecting and painting thousand sons for 3 years now. Enjoyed the episode while painting magnus, thank you so much for doing my legion justice lol
I’ve heard a lot of people complain as to “Why don’t Thousand Sons have access to Psyker Dreadnaughts? Magnus made the damn thing that allows dreadnaughts to be Psykers!” And now I see why 😂
He also was close with sanguinious and gifted the Blood Angels the schematics for them, so you might think that even if the sons lost the ability to make them they'd at least steal some from the Blood Angels
Pro tip for any ksons players wanting an MVB rn: tyranid psychophages from the box sets are like $20 on ebay rn (dont ever buy the standalone kit i stg) and on the same base size, give it a bit of greenstuff elbow grease and some sort of grafted portal effect: they look perfectly fine as MVB's and it kinda works with the lore, psychophages exist to eat pyskers (the weird blue smoke that comes from them are like burned psyker energy essentially) and so its not a huge stretch to think one could be turned into a vessel for a beast of this sort I can't think of anything more Tzeentchy than taking an absolute force of nature that exists to consume biomass and mutating its own biomass against itself Won't work in official tournaments, probably, but about as good a justification for a proxy as I've ever been able to come up with
I’m a fan of the Raptors space marine chapter, and while I don’t think they have enough to deserve their own episode, I’d like to see an episode for the niches of multiple secondary chapters.
I kinda like to imagine that they use a device that allows them to contain the souls of their fallen and bind their souls to any strong psyker’s to bring them back from death and giving them a moment to saver what it’s like to have a body before it turns to dust.🤔🐱

Before they changed the name from Chaos Dreadnought to Hellbrute, the Thousand Sons Dreadnouths were different. There is a Thousand Sons Dreadnought picture with the following text below it from the Forgeworld Imperial Armour 13; page 102. "Thousand Sons Ferrum Infernus Dreadnought, Khadeth the Silent, Mk IV Dreadnought Khadeth was present on the Planet of Sorcerers when the Rubric of Ahriman was enacted. Khadeth never spoke again, and it remains a mystery whether his body remains interred within the Dreadnought's armoured sarcophagus or it it contains nothing but dust."
The fight between Maggie the Red and Bobby G is so much fun to read. Lots of banter and shit talk. And when the blanks show up and are like ‘you have no power here’ he throw land raiders and dead ultramarines at them.
Happy that the excerpt from All Is Dust was well received. I have to give a huge recommendation to the Ahriman Omnibus. I recently finished Ahriman: Exile, and it has a lot more literary merit than the average Black Library release. The whole story has a real sense of tragedy and dark atmosphere that really make the universe seem alive, expansive, and sympathetic to the plight of the Thousand Sons.
Tzeentch loves ahriman. He even almost granted him true death as a reward once, but changed his mind and decided to see what else ahriman might screw up.
If that Vox News bit from the Magnus episode can be its own video, that would be great, as I can see Shy hit Bricky with a wooden chair as many times as I want, without having to watch the rest of the video over and over again! ^-^
One of the lore videos I saw said that Arihiman is one of Tzeench's favorite toys, because he embodies blind devoted Hope. It's been almost 10,000 years, but Arihman still is holding out hope to undo the Rubric and also stop the Flesh Change, and is crazy enough to do stuff like try and brute force his way into the Black Library for the Eldar's stash of knowledge to get there
iirc, the main reason for Ahriman's change of mind is due to his realization that... well, his friends, brothers even, they are... not there anymore. The soul-stuff might be sealed within, but the suffering of it, the slow errosion of the person that was.... it horrorfied him. Had it just been the sealed-within soul in the armor which was a near-immortality as could be possible, but without the will to freely think, do, experience, etc... He all but killed 95% of his fellow brothers and it was that realization and the guilt of it - especially when he has to put his will onto command some... he can feel the enmity and pain that his dusted brothers are constantly feeling (or the remnants of what they felt at the time of the rubric).
One interesting, kinda obscure thing about them is their connection to the cognitae. Maybe something that deserves an episode of its own. The pre heresy stuff is also interesting, but you did the most of it in the magnus episode.
TFW Thousand Sons' post-Great Rift lore is so underutilized it wasn't even mentioned here (some time after the Luna fight with Guilliman, Magnus brought the Planet of Sorcerers into realspace in the system of Prospero and has started building his own empire there, using a beacon to draw in psychics from across the Imperium to help rebuild Prospero)
Hot take: Ahriman did succeed with the Rubric. The Fleshchange isn’t happening. As for the Dust, what are Astartes using their bodies for anyway? I don’t think they’re sitting back on Wine Tasting Weekends, or going on Lads Holidays to Ibiza. They are War Machines. Now they are just better war machines.

Im glad you guys dusted off this lore.
Its been one of those things i need to dust up on, but ive always been afraid to ash questions about it.
For DK - Magnus is an auto-include in every competitive Tsons list. He is arguably the most important unit in the entire army.
If only the AdMech had found a STC for a heavy duty vacuum cleaner, it would make fighting against the Thousand Sons much easier.
They have the powerwashers of doom rubrics watch out
33:22 - I know to expect shenanigans when I listen to AdRid. I was not expecting "Eldar taco" today, or ever. XD
T sons are the classic example of "Ican fix this!" and immediatly make it worse
I usually listen to these as background noise during gaming, but my PC crashed couple days back, first time listening to this podcast sad...
Nothing is worse than when your PC dies on you, leaving you empty and gameless. =( I've been there. F.
No flesh, no flesh change. Simples big win
THOUSAND SONS DUST BOIS LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah!!
Finally. After years of waiting it's finally time :D
can't wait for the episode dk and his 1k sons play against bricky and his SoB
Pro tip for any ksons players wanting an MVB rn: tyranid psychophages from the box sets are like $20 on ebay rn (dont ever buy the standalone kit i stg) and on the same base size, give it a bit of greenstuff elbow grease and some sort of grafted portal effect: they look perfectly fine as MVB's and it kinda works with the lore, psychophages exist to eat pyskers (the weird blue smoke that comes from them are like burned psyker energy essentially) and so its not a huge stretch to think one could be turned into a vessel for a beast of this sort
I can't think of anything more Tzeentchy than taking an absolute force of nature that exists to consume biomass and mutating its own biomass against itself
Won't work in official tournaments, probably, but about as good a justification for a proxy as I've ever been able to come up with
I'm hoping the Blood ravens are from thousand Sons, having modified geneseed, but what do you guys think?
Thousand sons, Blood Angels either or my favorite legions get recognition
I hope that it was true. It make so much sense.
yes
Thousand sons is most definitely my headcanon, It all fits to well!
Theres also an argument to be made for word bearers but personally i hope its k sons
Aramin after literally full metal alchemisting a whole legion: “Neat”
The idea of being turned into a chaos spawn reminds me a lot of the ending of "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream"
Major Payne: "You want me to show you a little trick to take your mind off that pain"? "Gimme your hand". * Breaks finger* Injured Soldier: "AAAGGGHHH MY FINGER MY FINGER" Major Payne: "Works every time".
I am not crazy, guys! A 40k cuisine episode would be absolutely fabulous!
10:30 Rubric
"YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH BADGES TO TRAIN ME"
tzneetch: oh you don't want them to change? okay then
*dusts your marines*
cult of change favorite spell "spare some change"
Rubric of Ahriman:
Can't have the fleshchange if there's no flesh to change
I was in the middle of lifting a big weight when briky said testicular twist of fate. Almost died
Between you two I wouldn’t be surprised if Shy had a drinking problem.
It's not a drinking problem, it's a drinking solution
DK wanting a quote from Bricky is like Oliver Twist asking for more gruel.
A new Adric episode best birthday present ever
Lego WH40k game idea: You play as K sons and when they die they spill and magnus comes sad and crying, casts reparo and swoosh they are up again.
A Thousand Sons?
Imagine all the child support benefits Magnus gets!
"Ascend my chaos daddy" -Nemeroth, Graia circa M40
I find it funny how they did a thousand sons episode and they didn't invite the poorhammer guy
“Ascend me chaos daddy!” I will live by this quote for the rest of my life thanks DK.
The fight between Maggie the Red and Bobby G is so much fun to read. Lots of banter and shit talk. And when the blanks show up and are like ‘you have no power here’ he throw land raiders and dead ultramarines at them.
Very happy I could make the premiere
I think it’s confirmed that DK has selective memory
Building a TS army. My first ever army, and gluing those tzaangors feels just nice. Thank you for the episode
"Ascend me, Chaos Daddy!" is pure poetry. I am in awe.
That vortex beast is in total warhammer 3. Its amazing.
One of the lore videos I saw said that Arihiman is one of Tzeench's favorite toys, because he embodies blind devoted Hope. It's been almost 10,000 years, but Arihman still is holding out hope to undo the Rubric and also stop the Flesh Change, and is crazy enough to do stuff like try and brute force his way into the Black Library for the Eldar's stash of knowledge to get there
Cheers guys, inspired me to finally get my combat patrol together. Putting together the Infernal Master right now in fact
Even Beastmen players don't want zangores
Waited for years for the magnus/k sons episode and the entire first part is about custodes. Really killing me here guys❤🎉
I’m gonna be putting in a vote for the Crimson Fists! 💪
iirc, the main reason for Ahriman's change of mind is due to his realization that... well, his friends, brothers even, they are... not there anymore.
28:12 All Is Dust excerpt
45:15 I was really hoping dk would say “cult of personality” in the tune of the song lol
I need the that “Ascend me, Chaos Daddy” merch, NOW
Thousand Sons are, hands down, the saddest dust bunnies in the universe.
Much like playing a wizard and spamming fireball
“USE DOOMBOLT AND ONLY DOOMBOLT
JUST DOOMBOLT
JUST DOOMBOLT
JUST DOOMBOLT”
-a wise man
Excited for Ahriman Grandé
Edit: Okay I just heard that quote. Apparently it’s “I have no mouth and I must scream”. Damn that’s harsh.
I mean, Wolves drink mjod, Emp's Children rave, Blood Angels do paintings band all kinds of stuff.
You think Thousand Sons react like cats when they see a vacuum cleaner?
Alphonse Elric's favorite army.
Thousand sons rubric marines: Gone reduced to atoms…
Ksons showing the negative effects of being permanently bricked up.
I'm very disappointed that we didn't get the Incredibles meme "I'm not strong enough" lol 10:47
You don't have to worry about the Flesh Change if you don't have flesh
Ahrimans spell was like covering up a traumatic amputation of a limb with some neosporin and a bandaid.
