Bricky completely undersold the fight between the Lion and Leman. The Lion killed a man who had insulted Leman which angered Leman which resulted in the fight. After a while fighting Leman began laughing because the reason they were fighting was stupid however the Lion took it as an insult and knocked him out with one punch. After the siege of terra the lion sought out Leman to finish their fight out of anger because of his constant failures during the Hersey and Lemans inability to make it to terra in time. Leman refuses to fight but the Lion consumed with rage doesn’t care and attacks him moving his blade at the last moment so it wouldn’t kill him. It was one of the rare moments where either of them shed there masks and showed the real versions of themselves.

I never thought I'd want to "actually" Bricky but damn he was so off. It's important to note that the Lion was mostly angry at himself and used Leman as a scapegoat cause he isn't good with his own emotions.
In a wierd way it brought Lion and Leman closer, Leman even went into the tunnels under his fortress monastery to mourn after hearing about Caliban.

If I was bad with emotions, and arguing with my sister, then she just stopped and started laughing her ass off. I can say with certainty that I would be filled with rage, cause I'd assume that she was laughing at me.
I don't think the book actually said the Lion was thinking like that, but from what I understand of his character, that's what I would expect of him.

@@Pragabondagreed, I would love to see their own spin on the Odin story they're very obviously leaning into, but I hope they're able to come up with at least SOME original ideas to take it a new direction. I wanna see Leman come back all Warp touched but ENTIRELY uncorrected, full long ass heavily braided and feral beard, half Wolf, fighting with either his spear or an axe also made from beating a demon into axe-shaped compliance (just because I think there's potential for a hilarious moment with him and Grimnar if that were the case, just Leman upon meeting him for the first time being like "huh, couldn't quite punch this little fucker into a blade that shape. Well done." Or something), wizened from 10,000 years of Warp crusading and all that good stuff (I'd be okay with him being one-eyed ONLY if it has nothing to do with Odin's whole saga involving that, just losing it in combat with a big mean ass fuck-ugly scar), and ready to absolutely fucking shred his enemies as he believes the wolftime is upon them. Honestly would be amazing to see even just that version of Leman interact with current Robungus Girklebirk or the Lion as the characters they've become after everything that's happened.

I know, I know Entertainment over accuracy.
So I try not to sound bitchy, but Bricky missed the really funny part from the scene when Russ and his Barbarians had the dinner with horus and some imperial nobles.
Becaus Horus send EVERYBODY except Leman out to berate his "embaracement of a barbarian brother" but when the door closes, Leman sits upright in his chair, full etiquette, like he was raised on Terra. Picks up a fork and eats a piece of food from the plate, all propper, gives the suprised Horus a shit eating grinn and asks him in gothic "So, what you wanted to talk about?"
Because he learned all this over the dinner. I love the moments when Leman shows that he is only playing the Barbarian King

    • @ngominh259

This makes me hypothesize that Leman had always been having something else going on while he was playing a savage. And maybe him leaving the legion is like allowing the Wolves to remove their facade. A bit two-faced, probably for a good reason. I wager it's something big. It'd also be interesting to see how someone adept in trickery and espionage like Alpharius views Leman.

    • @johnsmith-hn2vu

@@ngominh259 Have a quote from Alpharius in his Primarch novel:
We are tools, of that I have no doubt. I do not think many of my brothers realise this fact, but Russ is one who does. He does not like me any more than Rogal does - in fact, I would say considerably less - but I found him next to me at a victory feast once, and we exchanged words. He was drunk, or seemed so: I suspect this was a low ruse on his part, for our very natures allow us to metabolise all but the most potent toxins without harm. However, drunkenness seems more suited to the roaring, fur-clad giant that is Russ than it does the patrician nobility of Guilliman, or the dourness of Perturabo, and so some might underestimate him.
Also, later on in the feast:
‘What are you supposed to be, then?’ he demanded of me. I had not long revealed myself to my brothers, and this was the first time we had spoken.
I smiled at him. ‘I am Alpharius.’
Russ grunted in response. ‘I asked “what”, not “who”.’
      [...]
smiled at him again. ‘I’m the one that keeps secrets.’
For a moment, I was not sure how he was going to react. Then his face split into a wide smile that showed his long canines - the only genuine smile I believe I have ever been the cause of, for Leman Russ - and he barked a laugh.
‘Hah! Well, in that case, I’m surprised there’s only one of you.’

Emperor cast fist. Russ woke up with a headache, declared to his people he was too buzzed to fight, but that the Emperor is worthy and chose to follow because he was already convinced before by how the Emperor acted and the appeal of going with his siblings and soldiers out conquering not just the monsters, but entire planets. Emperors single hit knockout just gave Russ the clarity of mind of it having been a "i didnt want to ruin our fun dad-son moment before you have to be civilized and to not disgrace your people cheating for you" scene.

  • @FoxHound-ut1hu
    @FoxHound-ut1hu Год назад +179

It should be made clear the Russ won the actual fight with the ascended Horus and had him at his mercy, but when the spear brought back the real Horus, Leman tried to save his brother which ended with Horus revealing that despite chaos he still thinks the Emperor is a monster that needs to die and sucker punches him. Though the wound Russ dealt Horus would end up devastating the traitor war effort.
Horus was put into a coma which cost the traitors months and the loyalists gained time to reinforce.
It stopped the loyalist from being completely destroyed and routed at Beta Garmmon.
It caused the Word Bearers coup and cost the traitors their biggest legion, their daemon summoners and a primarch.
It also made Horus a non-entity for most of the siege.
Also Guilliman and the Lion would have never made it in time to threaten Horus' rear forcing the gambit resulting in the loyalists complete destruction.

But now to where Bricky got the stab part. After Dorn and Kahn put Big E on the Throne, Lion was emotionally filled. He was sad and angry and to release it, he wanted to fight Leman again, but he refused to fight another brother in a time such as this. Fun facts about leman
He viewd the emperor as hes creator not his father
He saw malkador kind as a father
He wrote the omega codex , a book describing how to destroy a space marine legion
He always knew exactly what rune priest are
They are two versions of his final words
The space wolfs during the heresy worshipd the emperor
    Edit
When guiliman told him to separate the chapters he said that he will decide the legion into 13 great company's with a (wolf) lord in charge of every one, the trick... The space wolfs were already separated in 13 great company's that were set up like chapters and the lords were all loyal to the great wolf
So even today the wolves are a legion pretending to be 12 different chapters
Only fenrisians can become space wolfs
    Caul fixed it somehow
The current chapter master master double wields a spear made by the emperor and an axe made by khorne
    Edit 2
Just remembered the original name was the rout
The wolves were one of the "secret legions in the unification wars , the other we're the dragon warriors ( salamander's) the alpha legion ( of course) and the thousand sons
If leman hows loud enough psychic powers nearby stop working
If leman doesn't return with a beard i will not be able to express my disappointment
Edit 3 leman and magnus spoke to the emperor defending lorgar thas saving him from obliteration
    Konstantin valdor liked russ
He and leman owned twin spears from the emperor, Konstantin always used it as the emperor said to him, leman touched it once and then never ( this is the one that I think the chapter master has)
When leman left Valdor felt it and also left real space to do things
( Two metaphysical spears/ the departure)( i haven't read penitent but heard that something happens with Konstantin)

Pretty sure he wasn't walking "upright" at them either considering his current teacher wasn't an expert on bi-pedal motion. The more I think about it, that's some Wendigo crap right there for the locals.

My guess, given that he has abandoned his armor, and his signature gift from the Emperor is a spear, is that he's going to come back as more of an Odin figure, so probably having aged some and maybe wielding new, psychic power, which would REALLY piss off Magnus. And given Odin's connection to both Wolves AND Raven's it would be AMAZING if Corax was related to finding him and bringing him back.

Edit: also the fact that the SW call big E the All-father is really funny to me. Odin, the actual all father of Norse mythology, is notorious for having caused his own downfall because he listened to prophecy. If he hadn't chained up Fenrir, thrown Hel into Helheim, and thrown Jormundgandr into the sea, Ragnarok would not have happened, much like how if Big E hadn't disregarded and disrespected Lorgar, Angron, Purterabo, Konrad, Mortarion, and to a slightly lesser extent Magnus, or better yet hadn't created the Primarchs at all, he wouldn't have been forced into the big yellow chair.

48:30 so on this point it should be noted that this isn’t the first time leman and the space wolves have been told to kill a legion. (Allegedly) You don’t get the title of “Emperors Executioner” for no reason.
Here’s an except from Alpharius head of the hydra.
“‘I doubt that.’ He took a gigantic swig from what was effectively a small barrel in his hand, which reeked of the chemical swill Fenrisians call mjød. ‘But if you insist - we are all an aspect of the Allfather, or have a manner in which we serve. He has His castellan, His herald, His siege-master, His governor, His…’ Here Russ paused and cast a glance over his shoulder at where Magnus stood, some distance away. ‘Sorcerer,’ the Wolf King finished, in tones of distinct displeasure.
I said nothing. Russ had not listed himself in his speech. There was little doubt what his role was, at least to anyone who had seen the Wolves fight. Russ has a fury in battle that is a near match for Angron’s, but he possesses a tighter focus. The Wolf King is our father’s executioner. I suspect at least one of my departed brothers could have attested to that fact, although I have absolutely no evidence to suggest that is the case. Call it a feeling, if you will.
‘So I’ll ask you one more time,’ Russ said, fixing me with a stare that would have reduced a mortal to a quivering wreck. ‘What are you supposed to be?’
I smiled at him again. ‘I’m the one that keeps secrets.’
For a moment, I was not sure how he was going to react. Then his face split into a wide smile that showed his long canines - the only genuine smile I believe I have ever been the cause of, for Leman Russ - and he barked a laugh.
‘Hah! Well, in that case, I’m surprised there’s only one of you.’ “
So if Alpharius is correct Lemans context is that the most beloved brother and war master has just relayed an order from the emperor himself. Magnus the red, the brother he KNOWS is delving far to deep into the secrets of the warp and he believes is very dangerous, has finally pushed to far and the emperor has called upon his executioners once again to remove a legion who has gone to far.

I had a feeling there was gonna' be a host turnaround on Leman and the Wolves once their lore was covered. Prospero was BAD, but it's hard to hate these guys' vibes.
While I look forward to the soldiers' episode, I'm also excited to get to the Thousand Sons soon. Both because I'm interested in hearing how Chaos Sorcerers tick, and because it'll be a channel milestone once all of the main Space Marine legions are covered. Heck, this episode technically marks the end of the Loyalist Primarchs! Great job, team!

  • @ThomasFishwick
    @ThomasFishwick 4 месяца назад +1

Russ has a lot of detractors because of what happened at prospero, but there is something every one either forgets or just glosses over. He wasn't alone, he had Constantine Valdor and a whole troop of Custodies onboard. Valdor was the one to remind Russ that Horus Spoke for the Emperor as Warmaster! If Valdor hadn't done that Russ would have been more focused on capturing Magnus. If Magnus had come out and surrendered Russ would have brought him back to the Emperor. That he didn't and left it up to Arimahn, who fired the first shot if you remember, the situation was unsalvageable.
I'm not saying Russ is innocent or that he's utterly blameless, but at every stage he made an effort, unsuccessfully, to stop it. When there was no other options he went for the throat.

  • @chancesloan901
    @chancesloan901 Год назад +6

Fun fact: leman actually didn't want to burn prospero. In fact he begged Magnus to simply turn himself, have his people leave the city and have the thousand sons turn themselves in because he didn't want this fight despite what he was asked to do. The only reason he did it the way he did was because after attacking outside the city the thousand sons attacked the space wolves and thus forced their hands even further. It was actually a sad bad decision from both: Magnus for choosing to doom himself and leman for not choosing to stay peaceful.

    • @Gitskreig
      @Gitskreig 11 месяцев назад +1

I mean, Russ made his underlying intentions pretty clear from the get-go. They rolled in to a basically undefended planet; no fleet, no alerts, nothing. Even the crews of the ships and platforms they swept aside had no idea what was going on and there was no sign of any retaliation. In this scenario, the reasonable action is to send an investigation team down and see what the heck is going on.
It isn't to open with an orbital bombardment that sets the atmosphere on fire and that the main city of the planet only survives by rapidly turning on the psychic shield array (which, yes, was illegal, but as far as they knew they were under unprovoked attack), which you then take as an admission of guilt.
Russ seems like he had already decided this was going to end in genocide (possibly in part due to Horus' manipulations, yes), if only just to hurt Magnus and break the thing he was most proud of (his home). Even if he didn't want Magnus dead (debatable), he definitely wanted him broken.

56:46 So, those four challenges are taken from the tale of Utgard-Loki. Basically, Thor and Loki are traveling and come across a huge Jotun, who, after some shenanigans, invites them into his home. While there, he challenges them to a series of contests. Loki does an eating contest, Thor has to drain a drinking horn, then wrestle an old woman and, finally, pick up a cat. After he nearly, but not quite, completes each challenge, Utgard-Loki stops him and explains what has been going on. Loki's opponent in the eating context was Fire itself, and thus could not be beaten. The horn Thor drank from was connected to the seas of Midgard, and Thor drank so much it actually lowered the sea level, the old woman was Old Age itself, and cat was Jormungandr, the World Serpent. Utgard-Loki was utterly terrified that Thor managed to do as well as he did and very politely asks him to leave.

In Norse the are called the Norns the fates are the Greek ones also space wolves is what the imperium calls them as fenrisian is too hard to grasp same with all the wolf unit names, the call themselves Vlka Fenryka which is a cultural and poetic reference as in the sagas the closet you can get as a translation is We are the Wolves that stark the stars or more common but less poetic Wolves of Fenris. The codex is written from the imperial side but if you read the novels they use the real word more like Aett instead of the the fang or jarl instead of wolf lord. The wolves is interesting because they are so misunderstood just like the Norse mythology and the Norse people of the Viking age. Russ will hopefully come back in a Odin impersonation
