    Loved this! You should film a wedding with the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. Larger sensor and you can do great crane and ‘drone’ shots with it.

    I did this like two years ago at a wedding already! Main reason was that my camera stopped working at the venue. But turned out that in some cases the phone camera (iPhone 11) delivered really good footage for that purpose.

    Matt, I’m almost sure that the BM Camera app does not change lenses during recording. They do a digital zoom while recording of I’m not mistaken. That explains the quite lower quality in image on the zoomed images.
    Try that out after. Record the same scene changing the lenses while recording, and one that you stop the recording, change lens, and record again. See if the quality will be better on the 120mm lens

  • @lorid847
    @lorid847 7 месяцев назад +9

    A lot of the shots looked great! But I noticed a lot of noise when it was at the 120 that didn't seem professional-looking (around 18:45, 22:25-35 and 22:44), and that is the problem I've had with iPhone video. No matter what, the lack of a large sensor (still only 12 mp on the 120 lens) seems to cause that noisy video that doesn't look great, in my opinion. If it's going to be useful for video, it can't just use a 48 mp sensor on one lens and still use 12 mp on the others. That's the same size sensor that was on the iPhone 8+. So if only one lens is an upgrade to the sensor out of the three, I don't see how this can replace the great video a mirrorless or dslr can get with better sensors. But maybe that's just me.

      The amazing thing about this video is to show that an iPhone could at least get some work done. Although i think in more controlled settings the iPhone can do great things… but like you stated, I would stick with my camera. Phones have started a game change but not to the extent of super Max quality and control.

I've noticed some slowmotion and I was wondering if you recoded in 30p or 60p cause I know the iphone switch in 4K 60FPS only with external recorder (SSD). Can you confirm that?

    When you watch it on your phone, it looks fine. But when you put it on a larger screen, you can see the image start to fall apart and you get some weird artifacts in places. The amount of noise in the low light shots from the reception was significant.

    Per the hot swap lens idea, there was a company in 2019 I think it was that was working on a 3 lens 'turret' inspired by older bolex cameras called Vertigo, where you could rotate it and get a new focal length in seconds, but I'm not sure if they are still for sale or not.

    What ISO were you using & did you shoot in LOG and did you bake in the look if so? You have the case but did you use the ND often? Did you turn off the stabilization on the cameras since you had a gimbal? This may have relieved some of your issues with jitteriness. There have been tests (even those I've done) that do show that you do lose a lot of sharpness and some latitude with h265, it's not necessarily the same but does save on space. Obviously the 350gb would not be enough for ProRes HQ. BTW there is a 2x lens but the BlackMagic App doesn't support it yet, there are optically only 4 lenses, the rest of course are digital as you know.

    I do not know why app developers are not integrating Apple's Cinematic Mode into their apps since Apple made it available to all developers at WWDC. I wish Blackmagic would implement this into their Camera app so we can still have all of the manual control but the ability to use Cinematic mode and change the focal point in FCP like we can now.

    Just so you know shooting cinematic does not bake in the bokeh. You can add or remove the bokeh afterwards and even change what is being focused on or completely removing the bokeh. That said I’m guessing this means it shoots the footage with a higher f stop so you can choose after the fact and that’s not optimal especially in lower light

    • @IainAnderson
      @IainAnderson 7 месяцев назад

      This is right - you can change the bokeh effect with the phone itself or with FCP in post. The big problem is that you can't shoot Log *and* Cinematic Mode at the same time.

    Hey Matt, hope things are going well for you! Thank you for inspiring many filmmakers in the RUclips world!
    I just wanted to bring something up, in that I can see you're a caring person. I'm a Christian and a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, since He saved me I don't want to see anyone go to hell, but everyone go to Heaven. I hope, that you have repented of your sins and put your faith in Jesus to save you. You've probably been asked this before, or even told this before many times. No one can enter Heaven by good works, and no one on earth is considered good in God's eyes. His standards are total perfection, like lust is considered adultery, hatred is considered murder, which makes us all guilty. But those who trust Jesus finished work on the cross, recognize their sins and repent of them, they will find rich mercy and eternal salvation! I hope this is you and everyone else, God bless you and keep up the good work!

    Pretty cool but the telephoto lens on the Pro is only 77mm, the Pro Max is the one with the 120mm. Cinematic mode is much improved in the 15s and would have looked better than the shots with zero DOF IMO. I have tested the BM app vs the native app using ProRes and there is no comparison IMO. The BM files are way smaller because it's not shooting ProRes, you are just shooting in log. Nice for color grading but you are getting 1/4 of the quality and losing all that extra DR and the benefits of shooting in ProRes. The indoor footage was super noisy. Id never give that footage to a bride and groom. I love my iPhone but since shooting 6K open gate with my new S5II, Ive become a bit of a snob 😃

Anything bigger, you can see the less contrast, less sharpness, and all them noises. I once had to shoot a wedding with my smartphone and will only do it again is if the bride & groom has no videographer there. The smartphone is very easy to handle with a gimbal but the amount of charging I had to do is jsut fudging insane. Good thing i brought a portable charger. Otherwise, smartphones will always be the best for those candid moments.

    Bro you are a master but man, don't damage your image as a professional wedding filmmaker by using a stupid phone with "Pro Res" when you know that those small lenses won't have the quality or dynamic range like a Sony A7S3, Fx3, Fx6, Blackmagic etc etc etc. Don't make videos to create content with everything that comes on the market. I put myself in the feet of the couple who married that they paid you to do a masterful job as you know how to do and you used a cell phone whose quality clearly looks disastrous, a lot noisy and low resolution. Anyway is your channel and your clients but in my case I would not do that to a client of mine, I use my pro tools and I give them something like they deserve. Cheers and Greetings.

      I mean he clearly said he was tagging along with a friend who was a videographer who was actually paid to shoot the wedding on his cameras. It was an extra and test content. He’s not putting his reputation at stake trying something new. If we never tried anything new to see what the bleeding edge was, we’d all still manually focusing 8mm cameras
