Made this for my kids when they wanted something sweet and they loved it. I didn't know what kind of beans you used... does it need to be a special kind or any will do?
I love the way Korean cooking is so thoughtful, so many small details that add that extra special touch to dishes, like the pine nuts in each rice ball!
Hello everybody! Thanks so much for your nice comments! Be cozy with your homemade hobakjuk! : ) Many of my volunteer viewers submitted the captions in their own languages once I uploaded this video! Now English, Spanish, Filipino, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and French captions are available. I'm sure their work will help some of you enjoy watching this video more and help you make this dish! Check out the description box if you like to see who volunteered to translate the captions! If they make their own videos, let's encourage them by subscribing! If you want to translate some captions into your language, you can do it here. ruclips.net/user/timedtext_video?v=wXAghE8wUA0
I love submitting captions. I even translate your little quotes with the smiley faces in the video. It's fun for me and makes me pay attention to the recipe better 🙂
I would happily correct the French captions because whoever did it has a very weak knowledge of this language. My eyes were bleeding from all the grammatical and spelling errors. Anyway this recipe looks yummy as always, thank you +Maangchi !
It's been a long time since you made videos with pork. I really want to see your comeback next time with recipes of Pork feet. Thank you so much for everything you've done. I love you and all your recipes, Maangchi!
Oh my goodness I would marry anyone straight away if they made this for me. I love the idea of putting the pine nuts in the rice cakes for a little surprise!
Greek caption is available now. Sofia Anna submitted the caption! Thank you very much, Sofia! Thanks to your help, many of my Greek viewers will enjoy watching the video!
This makes me miss my mom so much. She used to make this all the time so I could not eat any rice lol She added ox bones to add extra flavour, super delicious
that looks so good, Maangchi, have you ever considered being on the Food Network? I think they need someone like you! So much personality, and delicious recipes from Korea would be so new and fresh on there. I think you are a star!
Introduced my mom yesterday to Korean food by making some bibimbap using your recipe as well as some ssamjang with an extra splash of mirin and hint of toasted sesame oil for an almost Manchurian flavor in both. Plenty foreign-ordered (actually shipped from Korea rather than made from scratch, but plan on making some water kimchi with what's left as a fermentation base) kimchi plus garlic and soy fried egg on top, too. She loved it and now wants to try this and all your others as well as some I learned from my ex! Thanks!!! :)
On a second note, the rice cake dumplings remind me of Jewish matzo ball soup if it were made with dosa rice flour they use for South Indian "idli", or steamed rice cakes from Karnataka and Sri Lanka that look and taste like those gluten-free "Uncrustables" sandwiches they have for lunchboxes for little kids and office workers.
You know the scene in the movie Ratatouille where the food critic takes his first bite of the ratatouille and it transports him back to his childhood and brings a tear to his eye - that’s this soup for me. We moved to the US and I had not had this soup until decades later at my older sister’s wedding rehearsal dinner at an old school Korean restaurant in Los Angelos and most unexpectedly, this amazing soup was placed in front of me. I had forgotten all about this soup of my childhood until I took my first spoonful. I nearly cried. It took me right back to my grandma’s thatched roof home in the Korean countryside. It’s an easy soup to make but a hard to soup to make well. Thank you so much! I’ll definitely try your recipe. ❤️
You make us all happy! TY for sharing the recipes and sharing your techniques to help us make it successfully. Keep up your fun looks and joyful memories during the step by step explanations
Last year, I made western-style pumpkin soup. Delicious, but I had to use bacon drippings and cream in the recipe. This one looks a bit healthier to try this year!
I love any porridge recipe, and this one looks so yummy it's on my to-try list. My stomach isn't the strongest because I have medical issues, but if you put things in an easy to eat format like porridge or broth, I can enjoy all the flavour without the tummy ache. Once I see pumpkin in the shops, I'm making a huge batch of this!
Binge Watching all of maangchi's recipes..i am a passionate cook and and foodie myself so i enjoy these kinds of videos and you are my favourite..i love korean cuisine and since some of our cultural practice and food is so similar yet so different to your's it makes it all the more interesting...i am glad i came accross thiz channel when i was bored and browsing for videos that interest me in youtube...korean cuisine is the reason why i long to visit korea and just stuff my face with all kinds of korean dishes...i tried some of ur recipes but since we don't have a korean grocery store where i live there's a lot of ingredients u use that i cannot get my hand on like gochujang, samjang, bean sprouts, kelp, etc, i just substitute/make it from scratch myself to suit my tastebuds to familiar ingredients which can be locally found...but i wish we do have a korean grocery store or any kind of asian grocery store here(there's a lot of ingredient i have to sub for local ingredients)...but im not complaining food is all about fusion right...lol...btw im from the northeast part of india in the state of mizoram and the ppl in my state looks more like chinese, japanese, koreans, thai's,etc(u get my point)than our fellow indians...
So far I've tried only one recipe for pupkin soup and I got it from my friend's mother and it never let me down. I use a medium sized, whole pumpkin and 1 big onion. Boil them until soft, mix with a blender and then it's time for seasoning; 3 tablespoons of cream, teaspoon of sugar, pinch of salt and pepper and the most important ingredient - lemon juice squized from one large lemon. Delicious! Next time I'll try out Maangchi's recipe :)
Living in England, I buy pumpkins in bulk when they come out in October (and only october). So I've had two just waiting to be used. I made this today and it's lovely. I have to say though, making the dumplings almost didn't happen. I made a huge mess with the dough and ended up with glutinous rice cake gloves. My husband had to come save me...err...them! It was all worth it in the end. Thank you for all of the wonderful recipes
Thank you Maangchi for this recipe. It's one of my favourite food in Korea which I had few years ago. Yes, it's a comfort food esp. i had it during winter. Missing it. ❤️
I so much enjoy looking and listening to you. You are so adorable, full of wit and joy. Even if I don't cook your recipes, (not because I don't like them but because I don't find here the ingredients). All the best, lovely girl.
I love your recipes and how wholesome they are! You have taught me through the years how to cook like a Korean wife. I am forever grateful and my husband is always touched by home much my cooking tastes like home

Thank you sooo much Maangchi ♡
Maangchi, how long does it take you to film, make the recipe, edit, and upload your videos on average? You put a lot of effort and passion into them. 🖤
I'm glad you like my recipes! It depends on the recipe, because some recipes I develop over years and years. Filming takes a few hours but editing takes days and days, how many days depending on how complicated the recipe is to show.

OMG this 호박죽 is actually one of my favorite poridges I've had in Korea! Like you said, it's sweet, warming, delicious and comforting. Hehe love your cheerful spirit, always! :D
I really want to try the sweet version of that.. remind me of black rice porridge in my country served with coconut milk, pandan leaves and brown sugar syrup 😋🤗

red beans are easy and great for porridge :)
