I am a huge fan of the blue/black Zombies precon, would highly recommend
Which one? lol
@@NitpickingNerds The one you guys recommended and if you want Wilhelt just buy him as a single and run him as the commander instead
I just bought a precon deck, Merfolk from Lost Caverns of Ixalan.
That is a good one. Very strong out of the box and fun to play!
i hope you like math lol
Hands down, Scrappy Survivors has been the best precon I've ever purchased. I mean, not just because it's Dogmeat, but the junk tokens are so freaking awesome!!
Junk tokens are super nice!
Ellivere "virtue and valor" has been a freaking BANGER. it was pretty easy to upgrade, just getting better enchantments, get a few white staples like light paws makes her sing.
That thing out of the box is so strong!!!
Tribal decks always appeal to new players because the synergy is so clear and flavorful.
But I feel non-tribal themes are just easier to upgrade regularly. There are just more Graveyard synergies than merfolk.
So I recommend the MKM Dimir reanimator/ surveil deck.
I cannot agree with this sentiment more. I started with Mono-Red Goblins and had so much fun with our boy Krenko, Mob Boss that I just couldn't stop doubling them.
It's not just easier but it makes players have to consider a lot more magic aspects when playing commander: While tribal cards are often a boon for new players, they can also be a crutch: once you're used to just creature synergies you do not have to look as much as things like mana costs and henceforth you don't have to look as much at the mana curve and the mana base. I would argue that the same inherent acceleration having a strong tribe deck makes players that would go from new to experience to not get used to run proper levels of interaction.
That's why I'd like to see more harder-to-run (So to speak) tactics on precons like spell slinging or control: that way the transition from casual playing to more high powered or even competitive EDH woudln't be as pronounced once you don't have the benefit of tribal payoffs and have to look at actually searching for cards that overall more playable instead of the usual 'This is expensive but it works cause of tribal synergy'
Tribal decks are generally weaker because if you stick to the theme you’re not always using the best cards, but the thematic ones.
tribal anthems go sooo hard. slam an enchantment/creature onto the field and *bam* lethal damage
Love your precon videos. Helping me get into the game!
I feel so validated that three of my favorite precons (Leinore, Jirina, and Millicent) all made your list. And i still have all of them in my regular rotation!
Looking forward to the quick draw one. Thanks for video
I just bought the Hail Ceasar Fallout deck yesterday, and it's been a ton of fun playing with it. I might swap in Isshin as the commander and add in a couple of upgrades since doubling all those attack triggers sounds really fun.
The Hakbal Merfolk precon is easily my favorite and what I consider to be a really good precon to get. I only added like 4 cards before a commander night a the LGS, didn't even draw any of my upgrade pieces but the deck operates so synergisticly
I think its almost one of the best precons. It has consistent and big card draw. Solid ramp with the commander and gives a ton of stats with so much opportunities to swing with unblockable creatures. The most powerful combo in the deck is deeproot waters with Reflections of Littjara.
Talking about Jirina: blinking her and stuff like myriad (even if the copies die, you get added tokens) works wonders.
Can confirm about the value on the Millicent and Stella Lee decks. My friend bought the Leinore deck and threw Khatilda from the main set in the command zone. The deck worked fine that way and gets cool new additions in lots of sets.
Millicent is great, you can just do a search for spirits and most of the good ones you’d add are very cheap. Like Beezy said, $15 worth of upgrades plus the stuff in your binder will do a ton.
Pro tip: replace Lenoire with Kyler, dude is a nasty human tribal commander
Can only recommend Coven Counters! I bought it for 16€ and upgraded it a lot with the alternate Commander Choice Kylar.
I just upgraded my Fiancé’s coven counter deck. I was worried it was too old. This made me feel a lot better. Thanks!
The deck is great for the price tag, especially if you throw a few bucks into upgrading it!
a lot of these precons that are 1-3 years old have been showing up on clearance at big-box stores like wal-mart, i've seen tons of them for about $32 there in particular
I like the oops all Grave Titan Precon the most.
It features such great cards as Grave Titan, and Grave Titan! I heard it's Nitpicking Nerd's favorite card and an auto include in every deck!
Which one is dat
@@user-qw3oh3dx1o why, the one that includes 40 copies of Grave Titan, of course!
Dude, I look down at my 2 standard commander decks I own and I see one of these 2 decks are the 5th spirit deck. I'm glad to know I've been sitting on a good deck all these years.
Funny that you guys reccomend grave danger. That is the deck that i pulled out of my bag as it was too slow.
I’m building a River Song deck and there is a lot of overlap with the Stella Lee deck. I like the idea of casting spells from the top and bottom of my deck, and from exile.😂
Anywhere but your hand lol
When you recommended taking out windfall from Stella Lee, I laughed a bit. I just bought the precon and played a few games this weekend. I managed take out a player by casting 3 copies of windfall while they had 11 cards in hand. that card has now cemented itself as a staple for me. I lost quickly after that lol but it was a great game. Deck out by mega draw is a fun way to go
It also combos quite nicely with Pyretic Charge as a wincon in non-infinite versions of Stella. Windfall into Pyretic Charge often boosts your team by +9 or +10 power or more
And do you know why you lost? Because you just gave your opponents 33 cards three times
The card is so bad if you're not abusing it
The spirit squadron deck is super solid. And the selysnia humans deck they showed at the beginning is solid as well.
I started with Scrappy Survivors and Quick Draw. Both are fantastic decks, very funny and beautiful cards :)
Always can do the -10 +10 cards and it gets 20% more fun and synergy
Would you recommend the Hail Caeser deck from the fallout set?
Looks like you're using Moxfield for "value of the cards within" -- keep in mind they often tie about $10 into Basic lands.
They can do that with certain special printings but generally not for any basic lands coming out of booster packs
I don’t think moxfield takes the price of basic lands into account, when doing my recent 100 dollar budget deck I removed all the basics because it was saying they were worth 35 cents a piece and I didn’t want to count those towards the price but the total deck price stat stayed the same afterwards
@@NitpickingNerds Verified and stand corrected. Thanks for noticing that. I aw the "$8.75 listing for the 25 basics in the Vampiric Bloodline precon, but at the top in the category of lands, it lists $6.76 for the value of that category, which suggests it's omitting the value of basic lands (though it still counts everything else at a minimum of $0.35, as @canaantravis has noted.)
After having acquired the four fallout precons, I can safely say that Caesar and Mothman out of the box work well!
I managed to pull a turn 6 win with caeser stock out the box and was able to win a power level 7 lobby with the mothman stock out of the box!
I haven’t tried the other two as of yet, but a good friend of mine has won games with the science deck just by switching the commander to Liberty Prime!!
Really cool precons, but they are expensive, harder to play and will make you get targeted.
Only one that hasn't worked for me is the Science! Deck
I'm so surprised that Prosper's deck didnt make it onto this video. Love that Precon
The same is true for the dragon precon with atarka, and others like the dinosaur or merfolk one. I think it's because some precons are harder to get or too expensive. So they give precons that are playable and cheap
10:47 beezy holding his tongue like a true lad
I wanna add that for the ruthless regiment deck, the sub-commanders from the deck, Trynn and Silvar, are maybe my favorite partner pairing in commander and they can effortlessly swap in as your commanders without almost any changes being made to the deck
I think this whole precon is SUPER underappreciated
I ended up buying the chaos incarnate pre con when i got into MTG. All my friends hated me because i was using goad. i then upgraded it wondering how annoying i could be. It later turned into a Thantis fog deck which got me targeting first every game. i realized the error of what i did. so i did the responsible thing, i took out my wallet, went to my LGS and i turned the entire deck into a Korvold Aristocrats deck, Cant target me if you're dead ! lmao
I snagged the “Eldrazi” pre con, the 2x cascade commander is cool, but if you run Kozilek that comes in the deck he’s just ridiculous to deal with if he hits the table
4:32 I would probably just buy this and put Katilda in as the commander, but tbf I like having one sided howling mine on a commander too so can hardly complain about that
I bought the b/u gisa deck 3 times because I love zombies and I took all them a part for diff zombie commanders
I actually got leinorre as a birthday gift, and built around her in the same day, buying all the cards I needed
Ruthless Regiment can be turned into a flexible powerhouse if you switch to Trynn/Silvar as the commanders. You can go tall with Silvar, wide with humans, or aristocrats if combat doesn't work. I only took the deck apart because I wanted to experiment with other orzhov commanders and needed the pieces.
Dont know if you have tried the Hail Caesar deck yet, but Trynn/Silvar are a shoe in for that deck and from your comment it seems right up your alley.
mys was spirit squadon and i upgrade it now for 6 months :) i have a very good win lose rate with that deck and the good thing is, that not everyone knows your deck if you fight them the first time
Just checked, the Ruthless Regiment precon dosn't come with 100usd in value, it's more like 27usd in value. At lease where I'm from, but they charging 50usd for it.
Im having a great time with deadly disguise from karlov manor. Less fun when there's 5 ppl at the table and 2 of them are white/blue decks that exile about 4 creatures per turn and board wipe every other turn
It seems amazing to me that Spirit squadron is 35$.
In germany at my LGS it is available for 15 €, there are many Extras since it wasn't popular to buy
The Crimson Vow Precon set was the best thing to get me into magic.
Either you make 3 dozen spirits, or cheat down massive vampires. So glad MTG made sich a perfect gothic set to hook me in. Now I'm 15 decks deep bc of it.
The ixalan merfolk pre con is probably the strongest "cheap" pre con you can get.
Its very strong and simple to play. Snowballs out of control very fast.
all you have to do to upgrade it is to put 2-4 counter spells in it for the card you dont like
Check out the precon Exit from Exile with Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald. It has some very good and expensive cards like Delayed Blast Fireball and Jeska's Will
Love that precon but was surprised how expensive it was!
@@NitpickingNerds
I love it too, even if there is some wierd cards in it, it does make profit.
PS. Also Check out Draconic rage, it has some expensive cards like Klauth, kindred summons, Maddening hex, dragonborn Champion and Druid of Purification.
Someone randomly came up to me at my LGS and offered to trade one booster pack of Commander Masters for the whole UW Spirit precon. I was like, "sure?" Best trade I've ever made.
Play from exile, Cavalry Charge, All the Ixalan Precons IMO. They are greeeat
Any lost caverns deck is great tbh. Merfolk is best out of the box and is the strongest of the four in my opinion. Super easy for new players too once you know what explore does
The dino deck is pretty good too, I've won a few games without upgrading a single card yet
I bought the LOTR Sauron commander deck and i simply can not win with it... Any tips? Or did I just bought an awefull one?
You can try it with saruman as a commander instead of sauron, worked much better for me
So not magic related but since I see the shadow back there how you feel about Jon wick playing shadow in new movie?
I'm VERY excited ❤️🖤
The virtue and valor enchantment commander deck is ridiculous for a precon. Those roles get out of control so fast and it’s honestly a chore to play against it without a high powered deck made to counter it.
i upgraded it with 60$ worth of cards and its absolutely insane. I recommend calix as a commander this way you either copy all your strong enchantments or you copy enchantments that exile your enemys cards and control the whole board.
Fallout is one of the best ones out there. Also in value for collectors. I am now opening all 4 on my own channel and am stoked on the first one.
They should really do another version of those starter commander decks or bring back the "lower quality" commander decks for 19.99$
Im impressed with myself for half of my commander decks being on this list lol
I like the kadena precon. Morph cards are cheap so ya can upgrade for cheap
my bros. Timeless Wisdom from 2020 is still in stock for $49 and it comes with fierce guardianship
For the EU peoples, Hakbal, Anikthea Hand of Erebos and Commodore Guff are quite cheap on cardmarket if you live in the EU and are a killer decks too!
shame, I can't find Grave Danger anywhere in the UK
If you are using coven counters, switch out the commanders. Kyler feels WAY more powerful then Leinoire.
I have sneaking suspicion I've been playing Magic longer than they've been alive
I wish I had watched this video last night 🤦♂
I am brand new to MtG, played only twice. But Ruthless Regiment was my training deck, and though I enjoyed it, I committed to Fallout Scrappy Survivors and LotR Riders of Rohan. I had Ruthless Regiment in my cart, but given the cost of Fallout (CAD$80) I turfed it, even though RR was the far cheaper option (CAD$45). Spirit Squadron look really interesting, did not pop up on my "research" yesterday, and is only CAD$40.
Dang it, guess I'm making another order... 😳
For what it’s worth, the two precons you got are also great! They’re just on the more expensive side, so we left them off
@@NitpickingNerds Appreciate the feedback, thank you! I'm scouring your vids now for better intel before I impulse buy another deck
Exit from Exile - just a good deck
MtG Goldfish has Ruthless Regiment at only $62! That’s a bit less than $100.
How is merfolks not on this list?
Coven counters is 19.99 on Amazon and Walmart
Turn 1 windfall.
Mulligan the mulligans.
That will teach them

Brothers war precons crush
Eldrazi precon is the best to play
Eowyn Sheildmaiden is tuffffff
11:39 I personally don’t like epic experiment. Had it in a melek deck. More times than not it’s just a card that sat in my hand.
the strongest Precons to get going with very cheap Upgrades are Probably Virtue and Valor, Necrons and Ixalan Merfolk. They are WAY stronger than the shown decks. if you put like 60$ into Virtue and Valor, and use calix as a commander, i gets insane. The shown Spirit deck was the first Commander deck ive ever own and its super weak.
21:37
NOOOOOOOO
thats why ruthless got more expensive !!!
>:C
fuck i wanted to buy it !
Zombies are so good
It’s a classic mtg deck!
Saying siphon flesh is a terrible card is absolutely mind-blowing to me
Downside most of these decks will be hard to obtain since they're older, unless use card kingdom or tcg
i HATED THE SPIRIT SQUADRON
it was maybe my first precon
i didnt like it at all
idk why !
hahahah.
i stripped off some cards
and then put some others
and gifted it to a friend
xd

WOOO! I knew it would happen some day!
This has big "I am 329th in line" energy

First time being the first view feels odd
It's quiet here
poop
Keep propaganda in the Stella Lee deck there's going to be many times when you don't have much of a board state and it's going to be the only thing keeping you alive until you have a really big splashy turn. Especially in your play group after they've seen the deck pop off and know to go after you
Under an hour club 👇
Yup

I was there!
He bangs for a buck and bucks for a bang
Obligatory 1st
silver medal actually
Species specialist should not be 18 dollars, jeez.
Yo, screw Lenore. The secondary commander, Kyler, is a damn POWERHOUSE. Still, get the deck, but run Kyler.
So. How the hell am I supposed to watch the video you suggested if the link is only up for a fraction of a second? By rewinding and hoping to pause at the perfect time over and over giving your video more watch time? That's shady asf
My main and most powerful deck was once the grave danger precon. I love zombies and bought it to get more into commander and have been upgrading it ever since. I really hope wizards makes more starter style decks since they really do help people get into the format.
mehhh
poop
The second I saw the pronouns I unsubscribed. Ridiculous.
I this a joke?
