9:40 ayo that's literally how battles work in P5 tho because upgraded gun, OP items, and special mechanics (abusing Iwai and Takemi upgrades) unlocked throughout the game make Joker, and arguably all the other party memebers too, extremely compentent without a persona but i still get what you mean in terms of smash's gameplay i didn't see past this point in the vid yet but if I were you the BIGGER criticism would be why the hell up special is GRAPPLING HOOK, a Royal exclusive that doesn't appear in any other Persona media, while NO OTHER FEATURES FROM ROYAL ARE TAKEN AGHHH, (I Believe and Violet in Mementos would have been AMAZING
oh shoot i missed to say that the Arsene timer is a GREAT point, like something along the lines of Hero's Mana would make INFINTELY MORE SENSE and be much more loyal to the source material
I’m not sure how many people know this, but the reason SNK got so many songs is because sakurai pitched all 50 to SNK to put in the game thinking he would only get 10 or so. But SNK just said “Ok sure, we’ll let you use all of them.”
SNK is a true chad. Sakurai: "Hey, man, I'm trying to pick a few songs for the DLC, can you help me decide?" SNK: "Well, what do you have?" Sakurai: "Well, of the 50 songs we chose, we want to include at least 10 of them." SNK: "Fuck it, put them all in."
So for people who don’t know, Lord woo Fak Fak was named after how one of the banjo devs, always said, “Woo!! F*?k!” After something happens. So that’s why a boss was named that
Still can’t believe they casually included over 50 SONGS on Terrys DLC pack along with a fun af character and one of the best stages in the game period, so glad I got it
I think Byleth's gimmick of having multiple weapons was done more for the sake of representing all of the Three Houses main characters, since he wields Dimitri's spear, Claude's bow and Edelgard's Axe, so he acts as a stand in for all of them at once. It's like Super Skrull in MvC3, where he represents all of the Fantastic Four in a single character.
Y'know, it never occurred to me that Super Skrull was supposed to be a stand-in for the Fantastic Four, and now that I've been informed of that, that makes me love him even more And also the idea of Byleth being the Super Skrull of Smash gives me the itty-bittiest bit of appreciation towards them That said, their gimmick still bugs me overall simply because it doesn't even commit in full, like all of Byleth's tilts and throws use the sword instead of following the whole "Neutral is Failnaught, Side is Areadbhar, and Down is Aymr" schtick And while I'm of the conspiracy that the only reason all of the tilts are the sword is purely with consideration for the pre-Femleth reveal in the trailer because sticking exclusively to a total of 4 attacks [Up Special, Tilt, Smash, and Air] until Femleth invites herself in would've been a nightmare, so having STilt and DTilt offers a bit more leeway, I stand by that the throws had no excuse
That and so he wouldn't be another basic Fire Emblem swordfighter. Sothis even makes the "too many swordsmen" joke in Byleth's reveal trailer before giving them the House Leaders' weapons.
Byleth is the least ambitious DLC fighter by a mile, they're just a walking advertisement for an expansion for a game. Their most unique asset is their smash attacks having extra range and disjoint which most characters have. Kazooie was a spear before byleth had a spear is the only logic you could use to justify byleth. Heck even Piranha Plant has more new tech than byleth in the form of the poison cloud, extendable bite and the vertical projectile spike ball. Byleth just hits harder, has extra disjoint and has Pit Nair, Corrin Fsmash and Joker Up B.
Agreed. To this day I am still baffled on why they didn’t make him like Pokémon trainer. Switching between dimitri with his lance, edelguard with her axe, and Claude with his bow. They did the switching mechanic with pyra mythra, WHY NOT HERE?! Would have been the first lance, axe and bow fighters in the game (fighters that ONLY use those weapons), that would have been super cool to see how they’re designed.
Terry -Shows up in an Amazing Pixel Animated trailer -Said Trailer has a bunch of cameos from other characters -Has a fun and surprisingly simple moveset for a FGC -Has even MORE cameos on his stage -Said stage is a banger -50 songs -50 fuckin songs -He has a cool hat Like bro if there was ever a time bias happened in Smash, it was this.
Sakurai wanted to make a fun fighting game because of games like Fatal Fury, so of course he's going to show love for the character and his series. SNK makes fun games and Sakurai reflected that with Terry's inclusion 100%.
I guess it was also due to SNK's cooperation that they managed to get all the value for Terry. 50 full songs, tons of remixes, them allowing them to just casually include nearly 2 dozen cameos as background characters. I love that they just allowed Smash to represent the best of what they offer.
I really hope we see more stages like Terrys. I usually play competitive stages but occasionally I play more casually with my dad, who prefers fully flat stages, and this is the only one that doesn't feel as cheesable like normal walkoffs. It makes me wish I could turn these walls on for every walkoff stage.
35:03 can you imagine if they did add “god shattering star” to smash? You are in grand finals. You win game 1. Your opponent stands up, cracks their knuckles, counter picks to FD with “God shattering star.” Right as the opera kicks in, he picks Luigi. *fun time’s over*
Another thing about joker is that in his game awards reveal trailer,we hear the instrumental version of life will change which is a certified banger. BUT I DOESN’T APPEAR IN THE GAME Bro they could have at least given us the regular song (which would have been better) It fits so much better than our beginning.
@@DZlegend bro I KNOW SIMPLE AND CLEAN GOT CUCKED. but also I understand the trailer song for sora doesn't really fit a battle but ITS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SONG. I WOULDVE LOVED FOR IT TO BE IN THE GAME.
It’s a rare case to see someone who ranks banjo high, I just loved how simple they were gameplay wise But outside of that they really have so much charm in the animations, the stage, and the fact that they got grant to do the spiral mountain remix showed me how much love they poured into the pack
I really wish they added an Assist Trophy for each newcomer. Not many people care about items, but I think theyd be a nice little addition for each fighter.
So here are my guesses for each of those. Joker: Jack Frost. Hero: A Slime. Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbo Jumbo. Terry: Iori Yagami. Byleth: The Death Knight. Min-Min: ...Spring Man's already in. But I guess to keep things more interesting: Helix. Steve: A Creeper or the Ender Dragon, not sure which. Sephiroth: A Chocobo. Pyra/Mythra: Tora and Poppi. Kazuya: Heihachi. Sora: Roxas or Riku, not sure which.
Fantastic video as always! Really looking forward to seeing what your thoughts on Steve’s pack are, especially the music considering all of it’s remixes are fantastic but none of them came from the main game itself.
@@Marshall.R I think it's the licensing, C418 probably didn't let them use his songs same reason why he's no longer making new music for Minecraft anymore
@@Marshall.R The excuse was likely given so there wasn't a laser target put on C418 or Microsoft From what I've heard, Microsoft's been wanting the full rights to C418's Minecraft compositions, which he was not down for, and this has lead to Microsoft basically ghosting him, and it's also why for the past major Minecraft updates from 1.14 onwards, all new songs have been done by other people who did fork over song rights to Microsoft A kind of inverse of this is also why Hero's music selection was Like That, in that the main composer of the Dragon Quest games keeps a firm grip on his songs, which has been a problem for even SquEnix, so the best Hero could get in Smash was the overworld and battle themes of the games each Hero skin represents Just think, if Hero had been _only_ the Luminary, Yggdrasil's Altar could've had only 2 songs like pre-Sephiroth Midgar
I always see people say that Fire Emblem characters (specifically Corrin and Bytleth) are used to promote their games but couldn’t that be argued for tons of other characters? One that comes to mind is Hero to promote Dragon Quest XI S
@kirb vibin definitely agree. If it weren’t for Smash I would’ve never tried a bunch of the franchises it represents. It got me into fire emblem making it one of my favorite franchises. I finally tried Zelda after ignoring it for so long. It allowed me to know who Kirby was before playing it for the first time. Etc.
It’s just that compared to DQ, FE had 5 characters before hand, it just got everyone tired of the newest FE protagonist being added when a new game came out within the Smash 4-U time window. Chrom didn’t get much push back when he was revealed cause he wasn’t being used to promote a new game
I'm not a FE fan, but I know there are many other characters that they wanted over Byleth and Corrin (Corrin especially is really hated by the FE fanbase). So their inclusions in Smash don't feel like they were intended to make FE fans happy, and feel more like soulless advertisements. That really sours their inclusions in Smash.
@@galegopaulista4564 byleth already being a soulless blob hurt their inclusion as well, though it's good they have a bit more life in smash but they still feel so stiff
Did you know the ink from inklings roller can go into the background and foreground on spiral mountain because its stuck to the moutain itself so when your characters turn, it doesnt.
I really wish God Shattering Star was included with Byleth. Imagine hearing it in a last stock situation, either with friends or at a tournament. Instant hype.
yeah the fact that they for absolutely no reason at all refused to port 2 extra mp3 files (god shattering star and a funeral of flowers) pisses me off to no end. it's first party, there's no reason they couldn't have added those. hell, byleth was announced on the same day as cindered shadows, we could've gotten a yuri alt in the place of that weird sothis one where her legs look jaundiced and gross, and a cindered shadows track like the shackled wolves since that was the only one that existed at the time
It is honestly refreshing to see Banjo given a high score since all I’ve been hearing are people saying he’s the worst because of a few moves that aren’t even that bad.
I’m just feeling some scrimblo bias, esp with Joker’s score, whereas Joker got a low score for gameplay and music, but it’s his take, so I’m not really getting my panties in a twist
And even if people call his moveset “basic” he’s the one dlc character that it should be allowed as he’s a classic n64 platformer character like the moveset fits him Also what I don’t think is talked about enough are his animations bc if u rlly pay attention to his animations u would see how great and unique they are compared to other characters, hes just like a cartoon character with some of them
The Smash fandom really likes to over exaggerate, like, almost all of them were considered for competitive ban, like, wtf? I don't know if was because of the Bayonetta trauma but they sure exaggerated a lot.
I'm so glad you gave Banjo Kazooie a lot of praise, they're my favorite character in the game and get a lot of hate, so it's really nice to hear someone praise it for once (even though the pack could use some more music imo, where the hell is the final boss theme?) Also for Joker they really should be added more music, Life Will Change, Wiping All Out, Master of Shadow, Burn My Dread, so many good songs that are missing
@@banisu7146 they are pretty basic, but the hatred for their gameplay is way overblown imo. How else would you want them to play? The egg attacks are super important in the Banjo Kazooie games so of course they would be in the smash moveset
Joker made a small impact for me. He gave me a bit of an interest in the series. Nothing major since I only played three games and they were all long after he was released. But when P5 Strikers got announced and it was on Switch, I prioritized that, and I had a lot of fun playing through it. Then a few years later (meaning now), I bought Persona 4 Golden on the PS Vita on eBay back in March. It's safe to say that it became one of my favorite games of all time. When I have the time, I'm doing a 2nd run where I attempt to max out all S. Links in one run. And for good measure I recently bought P4 Arena Ultimax on Switch and even though the lack of rollback on this port is a bummer, it doesn't change the fact that the game is really fun to play, and I consider myself to be average at fighting games. TL; DR, without Joker's inclusion, I would never have touched a Persona game in my life. And I thank Smash Bros for that reason.
I love Terry’s inclusion so much. I got into smash playing Ken/Ryu because I liked classic fighting games. Seeing that we could get more was thrilling.
Glad there's still some people out there that liked Banjo and Kazooie in Smash, I often see them getting a lot of flack for being simple (and for being zoners, which I can sort of get), but honestly that's the reason I main them, their simplicity is what makes them so appealing, and it's not even like their games are super complex or anything to warrant a million weird gimmick moves like Joker or Hero did, and the fanservice is on point, they're so well animated and goofy, it really feels like they made the series justice.
As a lifelong Banjo Kazooie fan, their implementation is nearly perfect and I wouldn't have it any other way (the reason i say nearly is that rat a tap rap really should've been fair but that's being really nitpicky)
I do think Banjo & Kazooie could at least get the multiple eggs from Tooie and maybe switch Wonderwing for their Down B for the Turbo Talon Trot as their Side B. Other than that, Banjo-Kazooie are damn near perfect.
I agree with the fact that they implemented BAK incredibly well, I just find their moveset to be uninteresting. It's not even that they have anything super annoying about them, I just never really have fun using them, but that's a me issue I'm still incredibly happy they got in even if I don't use them.
I love Terry’s pack a load! After playing fatal fury and kof u rlly appreciate the whole back a lot more. A great, fun and kinda high tier character, a banger soundtrack of over 50 SONGS from multiple different SNK games, and the stage let’s talk about the stage… The background characters are INSANE the smash team not only made a great stage but they added so many background characters that are remodelled to look better than ever and as a kof fan it always gives me a :) looking at it 10/10 from me :)
When KoF XV was announced I was kinda hoping they'd design the characters like they did in Smash. I mean just seeing them in the background with the same level of detail as Terry himself makes me want to play all of them in Smash. Like I would pay so much money just to add more KoF fighters into Smash for the aesthetics alone. I mean I'd even play Andy!
Having Byleth next to the _Fire Emblem_ series symbol made me realize that the male version is holding his sword in the _exact_ angle as the series symbol, and that the Sword of the Creator looks _just like_ the series symbol
I think the main thing that makes Terry’s challenger pack great is that you can tell that Sakurai is a big fan of SNK. From stuff such as the stage cameos, the 50 songs and the background of the spirit board being Terry’s stage from Fatal Fury 2, Sakurai wanted to put all love for SNK in one massive package which he successfully delivered. With some packs you could tell that Sakurai didn’t seem as enthusiastic when talking about them (*cough* Byleth *cough*) but with Terry’s Sakurai was bursting with excitement which I loved to see.
So as someone who mained Terry in every KOF game or every Fatal Fury game or even the spin off game Mark of the Wolves, I was so hyped watching that trailer just to see his blue glove pick it up then playing as him. My god it felt like character I knew how to play already. It was amassed I loved it so much
Glad to see someone give Banjo & Kazooie the praise they deserve. I popped off so hard when they were revealed and to see them get so much flack nowadays just sucks.
@Cliven Soewarna the character(s) represent 4 different games though. But I'm glad the work to represent multiple games went into the character alts instead of the stage colours or the win screen (joker)
I'm personally very fond of the DLC spirits, since a lot of them introduce new exclusive effects for spirits. Such as the King Slime and Hero's Comrades on the Hero DLC board, which introduce Enhanced Weight up and Team power up which isn't available on any other spirit. It's a shame that most of them are unviable, but Max Brass' Critical Super Giant and the Sephiroth legend spirit (bahumat zero? i forgot the name)'s Final Smash up are really nice additions to the spirits gameplay. Some are completely irrelevant, like the ender dragon and Sora's legend spirit, but The Mighty Jinjonator completely replaces Medusa in spirits viability. I'm at least glad we got exclusive effects for some of the DLC spirits, so they do have reason to exist. I'm all over spirits and it made me happy to check the new DLC board and give the new spirit a whirl every time a new pack came out.
Yeah, exactly. I know that he said in the video he himself doesn't like the concept of spirits, but it's still very dismissive for him to actively pretend that no one cares about them. I think PJiggles still doesn't realize that, to most players, this is a party game, not a fighting game.
Honestly, this content is really refreshing! The trivia is great and all, but hearing your opinions on other stuff usually gets me interested more, since from what I recall, you ranting can go places, which i enjoy. Keep up the good work man!
Just gotta say that FE3H turned into one of my favorite games ever and I was craving for Byleth in Smash, but I thought it was impossible since there was already too much FE. I was that one of two or three guys who lost it with Byleth.
I wish they did more to prevent Byleth from becoming the new corrin (minus the FE fans because they actually liked 3H and started a bloody flamewar that damaged the comunity for months over it), because they were released just feels like they didn't want to try. The DLC somehow was released at the ending of the fighters pack despite being worked on it before the both games were finished, rather than dropping the reveal they set up an annoying "mistery box" scheme, the trailer is a hazaphardly modded cutscene of the game with spoilers for the game and an unself aware mockery of their character issues, the presentation didn't have anything to talk about so you get Sakurai making programmer jokes, and the character itself is this Frankestein of attacks where they quickly switch weapons for each attack like a stressed Minecraft player in a pvp server. Jeez i could make a video of everything that went wrong that day.
@@massgunner4152 I remember around the time Ultimate Released, Sakurai tweeted that the DLC Lineup has already been decided which was still technically 2018 even if the year was practically over, so basically they were hell bent on forcing Byleth into Ultimate even if 3H flopped, It didn’t help that they had to give Sakurai an early build of 3H for him to play through, I kinda feel bad for Sakurai because so many other games were already available that people wanted fighters from, during the Byleth presentation I didn’t like how Sakurai took a jab at Zelda Fans saying “I played an early build of BOTW and thought hmmm we couldn’t make BOTW Zelda a fighter” meanwhile he made Fox, Captain Falcon, Ice Climbers, R.O.B, Wii Fit Trainer, and Duck Hunt to name a few work just fine, this is why people say he hates Zelda, I mean it hasn’t gotten a true newcomer since Melee. Don’t even get me started on Sonic and how Sakurai treats him.
Was there a "mystery box" scheme? Outside of "smash will be discussed on X day," there really wasn't anything else that I recall (and if we want to talk about disappointing mystery heroes, how about the really long set up of "who is the arms character going to be" only to know it was Min Min within the first 2 seconds). The trailer being a modded in game cutscene was kind of cool IMO (could have been done better, ngl). And the self aware joke is apparently different depending on the language (in Japanese, it was "not main enough to fight" then showing off FByleth). The move set is a bit frankenstein-esque, but I honestly still dig it since its uses the axe, bow, and spear, which is also not too different from other characters who use multiple weapons (Steve, Belmonts kind of, Pits with side B). Regarding talking about the game, its kind of hard when its a relatively newer game (Joker and Aegis both didn't talk too much about their games due to being relatively newer games, ARMS doesn't have a story so who cares, and all other fighters were from older games/series) Not to say it wasn't rough, definitely could have been better. A bit more work on the trailer would have been nice with like you said bit less first-half spoilers. Being the last DLC fighter also didn't help, which if it wasn't for it loosely tying with the end of the Ashen Wolf DLC for 3H, Byleth maybe could have been added earlier and move someone like Terry towards the end instead, or maybe even switching them out for an earlier DLC2 character.
In the banjo section he mentioned how they haven’t done anything like banjo’s wonder wing, yet Robbins entire character is just a giant inventory of stuff that has limited use
I appreciate the Banjo-Kazooie praise. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people complain about them. Their moves fit right in Smash and they may be basic but that just means they should’ve been in the first Smash to begin with. But 20 years worth the wait I say.
Oh, they belong in Smash all-right, I agree. But the gameplay they create isn't very engaging or interesting. I mean, it says a lot that a lot of the people who requested him in the game don't like playing as him.
@@angelmendez-rivera351 they absolutely do. It’s been a long time coming. They might not be the most interesting fighters but as a lifelong fan, they are perfect to me and many others BK mains. Could they have better and interesting moves? Sure, but I’m fine and happy with what the Smash team came up with for them.
@@smashbro0870 And that's perfectly valid. But I'm just explaining why others don't give high praise to the character. It's a good DLC pack, to be sure, but there is a reason why the character's implementation gets some flack.
Terry is the best. SNK music has been god-tier for literal decades, it's good it's getting the attention it deserves. If you like Stormy Saxophone, listen to Cool Jam and Sadistic Eyes
Byleth and Terry are definitely my favorite DLC. I find both of them fun to play as and I really enjoy their game plans. Terry is constantly in your face and I really enjoy Byleth’s distance game. I feel they’re both equally explosive
Byleth being added is actually what got me into fe3h, mainly cause it got my friend into it and he got me into it, and now it's one of my favorite games. Also I agree with God Shattering Star needing to be part of it.
Completely agree with these ratings, Hero is by far my favorite smash character ever created but the rest of the pack doesn't do a lot to me. And yeah Terry and Banjo are incredible as well, to me pack 1 is definitely stronger than pack 2 (with sephiroth being the exception) but I'm interested in hearing your opinions on pack 2.
imo heres my opinions Min Min 1/10 i hate this solely how campy her playstyle is, her stage isnt good and the music is shit Steve 10/10 i have huge memories with minecraft, it was my first ever video game and when i saw the reveal trailer i literally cried of happiness, and i love him Sephiroth 7/10 the fact that we got an SE rep in pack 2 this early again is insane, map i enjoy quite alot music is eh, but the character i do like using Pyra / Mythra 5/10 honestly didnt really expect much, music isnt that good, stage is awful in my eyes, and in general its tarnishing xenoblades name. characters kinda fun though Kazuya 3/10 i hate fighting game characters, terry i LOVE but kazuya i fucking hate with a fiery passion, the fact that he has so much random junk is bull shit Sora 4/10 i honestly dont like kingdom hearts,
I don’t think enough people mention the fact that literally seconds after the byleth presentation ended, nintendo immediately uploaded a trailer for the three houses dlc curious
I main Joker, love playing on mementos, love his music selection and have heavy persona 5 bias so he's my favourite DLC pack. He's also the reason I got into Persona in the first place.
I feel like some part of the thought behind Byleth's moveset must've been "what if...the Belmonts...but More" (although that may be my bias as a Richter secondary showing). But yes, Hard Same that the remix of the Three Houses main theme is one of the best new tracks in the whole game.
I really enjoy Banjo & Kazooie’s pack, I’m glad you actually rated it high. Their animations are charming, their stage is good and the remixes are fire! Also, the Breegull Blaster move is actually super useful and is how Banjo gets most of his combos. Overall great review, cannot wait for you to cover Fighter Pass 2 since that has three of my fave characters in it. Definitely looking forward to it!
Thanks for giving Banjo-Kazooie a fair and high score, it does suck that there moveset feels very weak at times and even there one "annoying move" wonderwing actually has some problems in itself form being a super powerful gimmick move, I just like to give them a 20% buff in custom balance and then they feel like they are up to par. (underrated feature btw) I waited a long time for them only to get the same competitive flak like Little Mac got and it's a shame 2 of my fighters that made it it were done incredibly dirty. So again, thank you, they deserve much better.
It’s funny how our biases change our opinions, cause Byleth was my second favorite fighter in Pass 1, (behind Joker), and I didn’t care much for Banjo, kinda the opposite of how you felt. But you still explained your stances with decent logic, and any ranking system is always gonna have personal opinions that get mixed in, so even when I have several different opinions it’s still a great video. And yeah King of Fighters Stadium? I’d love to see more tournaments on only that stage, even if they’re more casual Little Z/Alpharad type tournaments. It’s still a very fun time.
I don't know about "decent logic." He was _extremely inconsistent_ in his analysis. He explained how most of the songs for the Byleth music selection are bangers, only for him to, literally in the next sentence, to say that the overall music selection is very lacking. It's completely nonsensical, because he just contradicts himself over and over. Also, being mad that not every song in the music selection is a remix is completely hysterical and very unrealistic. And for someone who claims that the gameplay is the most important part, he does an excellent job at almost completely ignoring the gameplay aspect the characters and not properly taking it into account in his ratings. It's very bizarre. There are several other problems with his analysis: he says he has no issue with Byleth being 8th Fire Emblem representative, while completely ignoring the very glaring problem that the main gripe people have is that 4 of those 8 fighters are just clones of each other for actually no reason whatsoever.
Terry is the best Vol. 1 pack in my opinion. As Pj said Terry is super fun to play as and against I love how much care Sakurai put into Terry. The music is a great representation of SNKs massive rich library of franchises. The stage is also perfect for my play style and I enjoy figuring out new ways to manage my opponent(s) around. (This is coming from a Terry main and huge SNK fan)
Fans either hate Fire Emblem characters and anime swordfighters in general or they like "anime swordfighters" as long they're not from Fire Emblem so apparently there's no in between. Corrin and Byleth are great and unique additions to Smash because jokes on you I main all 8 Fire Emblem characters in Smash!
@@leontriestoarta lot doesn't mean enough. We still don't have -Gaiden/Valentia representation -Jugdral representation -Sacred Stones representation -Warriors AND Three hopes representation -Heroes representation -Engage representation -Cipher representation -Tokyo Mirage Sessions representation -Blazing Sword representation
I've definitely thought about buying Terry specifically to use his music since they've been available on FD and the battlefields Also the stage is casual heaven, so fun on freeforall and teams
Yeah, I really don't understand his criteria for ratings these characters, but there's no semblance of any consistency in his analysis/reasoning whatsoever.
I honestly wouldn't mind the rambling of all of the DLC characters in one video. I like how you go into detail of what you like and don't like and why.
My favorite DLC character is... yes, Byleth. They're so much fun to play! Also, definite agree on the FE characters portion. If you don't count Echo Fighters, Ultimate only got 1 new FE character, and no, the Echos don't "take up" character slots because they take very little time to make. But yeah the stage is not that great. My favorite DLC stage is KOF Stadium. Minecraft World, Yggdrasil's Altar, Mishima Dojo, and Hollow Bastion are all great too. Overall, the 1st fighters pass is great imo. The characters are all very interesting (or at least fun to play), the stages are decent overall, and the music is a mixed bag but still includes some nice songs. Idk I mainly get the DLC for the characters and they're all quite fun so it's great imo Also meow
Joker feels like he was designed by someone who hasn’t played persona 5 but only knows the game because of its astetic. I wish Arsene was a resource that Joker can call upon like in Persona rather than an “I win unless you camp” button.
Gosh I respect this guy, everytime he uploads I get so excited cuz I haven't seen him in a while and him uploading means he is okay and like... not dead. Then when his video ends I'm like, damn... can't wait to watch him again in like 2 months. And when I he isn't uploading I know damn well he is working hard to make 1 video because every video he makes are some quality videos and are never made sloppy 👌
It would be really fun idea to also rank the DLC characters from Smash 4. Also I always liked to draw comparisons on Joker’s Meter and Cloud’s Limit meter because in a way, they are similar.
Aww man, I loved the Byleth DLC pack. Yes, I can agree that the stage is rather lame, but as a character, Byleth is fun for me to play. But whatever, to each his own. Awesome videos, as usual.
Fire Emblem genuinely doesn't deserve the golden treatment it's gotten in Smash. Especially since it had to piggyback off Melee to get out Japan in the first place. It’s no Mario or Pokémon for that matter.
@@squallleonhart9387 The reason Fire Emblem wasn't released outside of Japan till the GBA era, because RPG's in general were a hard sell in the US. Nintendo even said that the only reason why Corrin was added to Smash is because Fates sold well in Japan. Nintendo is very bias with their Japanese fans.
@kirb vibin I think that Xenoblade is the spiritual successor to Mario and Luigi, what do they have in common????? former Square soft developers. Alpha Dream the company who made Mario and Luigi was founded by Chihiro Fujioka who is a former developer at Square Soft, who we know now days as Square Enix. Sadly Alpha Dream got bankrupted. Monolith Soft the company that makes Xenoblade was founded by Tetsuya Takahashi who also worked for Squaresoft. There's even a third Xenoblade game coming out. If your hesitate I recommend Xenoblade 2 Tora - the Golden County because that game is much shorter than the original Xenoblade 2.
Byleth is fun to play, but this doesn't change the fact that they aren't well-designed as a DLC character. It doesn't justify having to pay extra for the character.
I'm actually a fan of Byleth's moveset. Do I think we could've gotten one of the probably many different FE characters with a designated different weapon instead of this jumbled mish mash? Oh yes absolutely. But for what it is, I can have fun with it.
Yeah his move set is like high risk high reward in my opinion and when all th other characters have a gimmick or broken move in both fighter passes. It's kinda refreshing just having a normal character make it.

Character wise: Joker: 8/10 I find him super fun Hero: 8/10 I love rng bs Banjo: 9/10 I love them personally, so cartoony Terry: 9/10 he's so cool. Byleth: 10/10 I love playing This character, my secondary
For Hero's song selection, it makes sense, the licenses to DQ music are very complicated, not even the friggin games get to have the orquestal versions of the songs most of the time(I personally prefer MIDI format anyway). As for his final Smash, I don't know if you skipped it since it has to do more with the legacy of Dragon Quest (featuring all previous heroes that aren't alts) which is something you aren't familiar with. For me Hero is an 11/11 outright, not only is he my main, he also is super fun to use, I am very attached to every one of the heroes in DQ (aside from X) and everything that was put into smash was a dream come true! My all-time favorite DLC and a very close favorite character in the whole roster.
I've had near 20 of my favorite characters ever added to smash and I am incredibly grateful for that, what's funnier tho is that Terry is the character I didn't know I needed, He is my main, have become a fan of KOF ever since and am now more in love with him/his stuff than ever before. Im genuinely so happy, and personally cannot wait for part 2 of these videos, I think some of your ratings are unfair (imo), but I understand that these are your reasonings are reasonable/acceptable. *About Terry* : To be completely honest, even if I didn't end up caring about Terry in any way somehow, I think its still a 10/10, first character to have a back special, Charge motion, a well balanced come-back mechanic, 50 FREAKIN SONGS, 17 remixes, they are nearly all amazing, his alts reference his other Titles and even the anime. Stage is a first in smash and so well done, Amazing final Smash, like honestly there is nothing bad about this pack, imo, its actually perfect I 100% agree
Glad to see Banjo-Kazooie getting love. My only problem with them is we barely got any Tooie content. Only 3 songs, with only 1 being remixed, nothing in the stage (it’s clearly it before the events of Tooie), and not a single Tooie spirit. Klungo doesn’t even get a spirit, even though his theme is one of the remixed songs. Most of the representation comes from their move set
You know, Byleth shouldn't have been that surprising as with a lot of new games appeared on the switch, and espescially OG Nintendo games) there would be a spirit event in Smash Ultimate featuring spirits from the game(s), however when 3 houses got released there were no new fire emblem 3 houses themed spirits.
Well it certainly didn't help that Nintendo did everything possible to make us think it wouldn't be a Fire Emblem character until the thing was about to release anyways
Meanwhile Zelda hasn't gotten a true newcomer since Melee and Ganondorf still doesn't have his own moveset. All their major franchises are given the short end of the stick and every single time they had the chance to fill some holes they give us more fire emblem, as though that's what people come to a Nintendo crossover for. Look, I would trade half of the FE roster for characters from smaller franchises. Golden Sun, Rhythm Heaven, Advance Wars, etc. I understand that it makes little sense to remove characters from that franchise, but I wish smaller ones got the chance. Look at what Smash did for Kid Icarus and Xenoblade.
@@squallleonhart9387 Nintendo won't allow Zelda characters that don't weld the Triforce in Smash. Ganondorf battles in the Zelda series were never interesting, outside of Pig Gannon. Gannon in Smash feels like an improvement. Sakurai does't care about popularity, he only cares if the characters are easy to design, thats why there's are so many Fire Emblem characters in Smash.
@@orangeslash1667 Ganondorf battles were never interesting? Then how come he's the fandom's favorite villain? You're just saying really dumb stuff for no reason. Also, saying that Sakurai just wants to make characters as simple as possible is false. This game is abundant with very complex and unique characters. And he does care about popularity: that's why he put Sora in.
Great vid, I was surprised by a lot of choices, so that made it so unpredictable and interesting. I really like that you gave Banjo-Kazooie pack a 9/10 as everyone seems to hate them for some reason, and yeah Terry's pack is the best.
I was kinda mad when Nakoruru didn't grab the smash invite when the trailer first dropped because I had only a general idea of who Terry was. But nakoruru would have sucked to fight like she always has, Terry is way more fun to play, and I still got "Tuna" from Samurai Shodown(a true banger in my oppinion). I definitely agree with the 10/10 score. Great video can't wait for the second part.
Terry is my favorite Smash DLC character of all time. I’m a HUGE fighting game guy. I’ve played so many and KOF is one of my favorites. Terry feels great to play in smash and his stage is the best! I will say though, the smash remix of Stormy Sax 2 is the worst version of that song. It sucks how they completely butchered that song.
Ma boi Terry got a 10 !!! I legit didn't know the character before his dlc reveal. And the first I saw this big boi I knew I would love him, and here I am. I legit dedicated my life to him lmao. Great video tho (not only due to Terry's grade)
As someone who has only played one KOF game before Terry's appearance in Smash (KOF '98), Terry's is still my favorite pack from Pass 1, and that's from someone who uses Byleth way more. I love using the KOF Stadium for Squad Strike Stamina Mode, 3-on-3 in a style similar to KOF.
Now I really wish they went all the way with Byleth's gimmick and actually let them switch weapons. I know it would've made the character _waaaaaaaay_ more difficult to create, but I just really want there to be _some_ FE character I actually enjoy playing.
>Byleth clearly has more than just a sword *Robin had magic before him.* >No down b counter special *Neither did Robin.* >A tether recovery *Robin had resource management.* >Byleth more distinct than the rest of the FE crew Byleth doesn't get a cookie just for doing a couple things different RELATIVE TO FIRE EMBLEM'S OTHER REPS, especially when *Robin beat him to the punch on that one.* And even if he did, it's alarming that it took EIGHT characters to give someone a weapon that wasn't a sword, and he still has a damn sword too. >It’s a Whip Sword Yeah and those Whip Sword Attacks mean they reused many animations from Belmonts for Byleth since the Belmonts mainly attack with their Vampire Killers, not to mention the Joker Up B they reused. Worst of all, he kills the chances for anyone from FE who's a dedicated spearfighter/axefighter because defenders will say HERP DERP HE REPRESENTS LE WEAPON TRIANGLE NOW BACK TO OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED PRETTY BOY/GIRL SWORD PROGRAM.
@@squallleonhart9387 “reused Belmont animations” you clearly aren’t paying much attention to the actual animations then. Byleth uses multi hits for his whip attacks, Belmont’s are mostly single whips. Also while Robin is more unique than byleth and undoubtedly the most unique FE character, it’s not like that means byleth can’t be too? Believe it or not, it is possible for more than one FE character to have an interesting moveset.
@@JacobPDeIiNoNi Sure, Byleth is technically unique, but that's a very low bar when you consider how many clones are in this game. You need more than uniqueness to make a good character. Mish-mashing a moveset together in a way that is incoherent isn't the way to go about things.
@@angelmendez-rivera351 That’s true, I don’t think uniqueness on its own counts for much. I just think it’s byleth IS mostly unique at the very least, and denying that is flat out incorrect
You definitely struck me as a Persona 5 playing type of gentleman but here we are, glad we agree on the Three Houses remix and I’ll take Byleth just for that
Ah, yes, a fellow cultured Banjo and Terry fan Also, do you think the KoF Stadium is a tribute to the American Sports Team? 🤔 It is a football field after all. 🧐
Zin in part 2 ^^ I highly agree for the most part on your points. Terry is indeed a perfect pack I was really shocked when they said ooh yeah we bring 50 songs with him xd
you can't say someone isn't passionate when they make a 5 minute impressive introduction for a ranking video, like, that's real fucking dedication, and i applaud you
Mind you, Nintendo picked the characters, but Sakurai chose wich ones would make it to the game and how they would be represented, so it ultimely goes back to Masahiro when talking about the DLC.
If people are interested as to why we didn't get the good quality Dragon Quest songs, or many of them, it's because their original composer was EXTRELEMY protective of them, working in his own name and selling the midi and orchestral right separately. He was at the origin of the musicians' union in Japan, and has never strayed from his course of keeping his work under full control. Personally, i'm happy we got Adventure, War Cry and Marching through the Green.
The reason why the selection of Dragon Quest music (and why the selection is the downgraded midi versions of the tracks) is so bad is because the composer at the time, Koichi Sugiyama, was INCREDIBLY strict with how the music he composed was used because Square Enix didn't own the music, he did.
For Joker I think the reason they didn't put Jaldabaoth in Smash as a BGM is because it's the name of the final boss. Our Beginning is a more triumphant version of Jaldabaoth.

9:40 ayo that's literally how battles work in P5 tho because upgraded gun, OP items, and special mechanics (abusing Iwai and Takemi upgrades) unlocked throughout the game make Joker, and arguably all the other party memebers too, extremely compentent without a persona

oh shoot i missed to say that the Arsene timer is a GREAT point, like something along the lines of Hero's Mana would make INFINTELY MORE SENSE and be much more loyal to the source material
10:08 AYO CORRECT OPINION ALERT WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I’m not sure how many people know this, but the reason SNK got so many songs is because sakurai pitched all 50 to SNK to put in the game thinking he would only get 10 or so. But SNK just said “Ok sure, we’ll let you use all of them.”

Still can’t believe they casually included over 50 SONGS on Terrys DLC pack along with a fun af character and one of the best stages in the game period, so glad I got it
I'd never heard of Terry before Smash or his games or even the company but that Pack was definitely the best, it's nuts. IN my opinion anyway.
I'd say Terry is a distinct play style, it's fun factor is dependent on the player
I also love how they went for an unconventional pick, but not too weird to be an unjustifiable inclusion
And the amazing background characters!
I think that's cause they knew he was going to be the only snk character in game so they wanted as much representation for it as possible
Y'know, it never occurred to me that Super Skrull was supposed to be a stand-in for the Fantastic Four, and now that I've been informed of that, that makes me love him even more
And also the idea of Byleth being the Super Skrull of Smash gives me the itty-bittiest bit of appreciation towards them
That said, their gimmick still bugs me overall simply because it doesn't even commit in full, like all of Byleth's tilts and throws use the sword instead of following the whole "Neutral is Failnaught, Side is Areadbhar, and Down is Aymr" schtick
And while I'm of the conspiracy that the only reason all of the tilts are the sword is purely with consideration for the pre-Femleth reveal in the trailer because sticking exclusively to a total of 4 attacks [Up Special, Tilt, Smash, and Air] until Femleth invites herself in would've been a nightmare, so having STilt and DTilt offers a bit more leeway, I stand by that the throws had no excuse
Never thought id see that comparasion

Like bro if there was ever a time bias happened in Smash, it was this.
Kirby

@@Marshall.R I think it's the licensing, C418 probably didn't let them use his songs same reason why he's no longer making new music for Minecraft anymore
@@Marshall.R
The excuse was likely given so there wasn't a laser target put on C418 or Microsoft
From what I've heard, Microsoft's been wanting the full rights to C418's Minecraft compositions, which he was not down for, and this has lead to Microsoft basically ghosting him, and it's also why for the past major Minecraft updates from 1.14 onwards, all new songs have been done by other people who did fork over song rights to Microsoft
A kind of inverse of this is also why Hero's music selection was Like That, in that the main composer of the Dragon Quest games keeps a firm grip on his songs, which has been a problem for even SquEnix, so the best Hero could get in Smash was the overworld and battle themes of the games each Hero skin represents
Just think, if Hero had been _only_ the Luminary, Yggdrasil's Altar could've had only 2 songs like pre-Sephiroth Midgar

I'm legit sad that, cuz God Shattering Star is like... the BEST track in 3 houses
yeah the fact that they for absolutely no reason at all refused to port 2 extra mp3 files (god shattering star and a funeral of flowers) pisses me off to no end. it's first party, there's no reason they couldn't have added those. hell, byleth was announced on the same day as cindered shadows, we could've gotten a yuri alt in the place of that weird sothis one where her legs look jaundiced and gross, and a cindered shadows track like the shackled wolves since that was the only one that existed at the time
Smash 4 had the flying music from Chapter 9 of Kid Icarus Uprising, but it’s gone. Shame, because that one slaps.
It is honestly refreshing to see Banjo given a high score since all I’ve been hearing are people saying he’s the worst because of a few moves that aren’t even that bad.
Yo soshi! Good to know ur a fan of pjiggles content too
Also agree with dat about banjo
I’m just feeling some scrimblo bias, esp with Joker’s score, whereas Joker got a low score for gameplay and music, but it’s his take, so I’m not really getting my panties in a twist
People complain that he’s too basic and mid tier but would they rather he be Pyra and Kazuya top tier because then they’d complain too
And even if people call his moveset “basic” he’s the one dlc character that it should be allowed as he’s a classic n64 platformer character like the moveset fits him
Also what I don’t think is talked about enough are his animations bc if u rlly pay attention to his animations u would see how great and unique they are compared to other characters, hes just like a cartoon character with some of them
The Smash fandom really likes to over exaggerate, like, almost all of them were considered for competitive ban, like, wtf? I don't know if was because of the Bayonetta trauma but they sure exaggerated a lot.
I'm so glad you gave Banjo Kazooie a lot of praise, they're my favorite character in the game and get a lot of hate, so it's really nice to hear someone praise it for once (even though the pack could use some more music imo, where the hell is the final boss theme?)
Also for Joker they really should be added more music, Life Will Change, Wiping All Out, Master of Shadow, Burn My Dread, so many good songs that are missing
The hate is JUST for the gameplay, also there are some very very cool Banjo like Jplay or.....Banisu.. 👀 Anyways, prove me wrong

I had the same experience, but with a different character. Hero and the Dragon Quest series.
Same
I love Terry’s inclusion so much.
Joker doesn't have a million gimmicks. He's got like 3, and none of them are very complicated.

It is likely based on the Falchion, Marth's sword, but The Sword of the Creator has a similar shape.
when I first saw the tweet about Terry being able to do the jab jab power dunk combo I fell in love with this character.
“and best of all…most of them SLAP”
that was the most unexpected remark yet completely warranted and amazing
It was amassed I loved it so much
I was one who had no idea who Terry was but I love playing him so much in Smash I am happy to say I'm now a huge fan of the KoF series.
Glad to see someone give Banjo & Kazooie the praise they deserve. I popped off so hard when they were revealed and to see them get so much flack nowadays just sucks.
Yggdrasil’s alter is kind of a dumb choice for a stage, but I suppose it’s the only place that could represent the whole game
I personally like it since that's where shit goes down but yeah I agree like where else would be a good stage to represent all of Dragon Quest
The whole which game ?
@Cliven Soewarna the character(s) represent 4 different games though.
But I'm glad the work to represent multiple games went into the character alts instead of the stage colours or the win screen (joker)
@Cliven Soewarna it was better as enix without the square :s
Yo same! I remember hoping that Byleth would be added to the second DLC fighter pack and thinking of a cool moveset for.
Imagine not already being into Fire Emblem since Marth and Roy in Melee, lol Zoomers.
@@massgunner4152
I remember around the time Ultimate Released, Sakurai tweeted that the DLC Lineup has already been decided which was still technically 2018 even if the year was practically over, so basically they were hell bent on forcing Byleth into Ultimate even if 3H flopped, It didn’t help that they had to give Sakurai an early build of 3H for him to play through, I kinda feel bad for Sakurai because so many other games were already available that people wanted fighters from, during the Byleth presentation I didn’t like how Sakurai took a jab at Zelda Fans saying “I played an early build of BOTW and thought hmmm we couldn’t make BOTW Zelda a fighter” meanwhile he made Fox, Captain Falcon, Ice Climbers, R.O.B, Wii Fit Trainer, and Duck Hunt to name a few work just fine, this is why people say he hates Zelda, I mean it hasn’t gotten a true newcomer since Melee.
Regarding talking about the game, its kind of hard when its a relatively newer game (Joker and Aegis both didn't talk too much about their games due to being relatively newer games, ARMS doesn't have a story so who cares, and all other fighters were from older games/series)
Not to say it wasn't rough, definitely could have been better.
In the banjo section he mentioned
how they haven’t done anything like banjo’s wonder wing, yet Robbins entire character is just a giant inventory of stuff that has limited use
Always a nice day when you upload your videos have such high quality!
My only complaint with Terry as a whole is no garou costume or music, but besides that he’s still easily the best dlc
Byleth and Terry are definitely my favorite DLC. I find both of them fun to play as and I really enjoy their game plans. Terry is constantly in your face and I really enjoy Byleth’s distance game. I feel they’re both equally explosive
Terry and Byleth are also my favorite character from the First Pass for the same reasons that you said
always fire to see Terry get the love he deserves
Byleth being added is actually what got me into fe3h, mainly cause it got my friend into it and he got me into it, and now it's one of my favorite games.
Also I agree with God Shattering Star needing to be part of it.
Completely agree with these ratings, Hero is by far my favorite smash character ever created but the rest of the pack doesn't do a lot to me. And yeah Terry and Banjo are incredible as well, to me pack 1 is definitely stronger than pack 2 (with sephiroth being the exception) but I'm interested in hearing your opinions on pack 2.

Min Min 1/10 i hate this solely how campy her playstyle is, her stage isnt good and the music is shit
Steve 10/10 i have huge memories with minecraft, it was my first ever video game and when i saw the reveal trailer i literally cried of happiness, and i love him
Sephiroth 7/10 the fact that we got an SE rep in pack 2 this early again is insane, map i enjoy quite alot music is eh, but the character i do like using
Pyra / Mythra 5/10 honestly didnt really expect much, music isnt that good, stage is awful in my eyes, and in general its tarnishing xenoblades name. characters kinda fun though
Kazuya 3/10 i hate fighting game characters, terry i LOVE but kazuya i fucking hate with a fiery passion, the fact that he has so much random junk is bull shit
Sora 4/10 i honestly dont like kingdom hearts,
I don’t think enough people mention the fact that literally seconds after the byleth presentation ended, nintendo immediately uploaded a trailer for the three houses dlc
curious
I main Joker, love playing on mementos, love his music selection and have heavy persona 5 bias so he's my favourite DLC pack.
He's also the reason I got into Persona in the first place.
Same
Same with me too and with Byleth as well.
I remember the day that Steve was reveald like it was yesterday
I feel like some part of the thought behind Byleth's moveset must've been "what if...the Belmonts...but More" (although that may be my bias as a Richter secondary showing). But yes, Hard Same that the remix of the Three Houses main theme is one of the best new tracks in the whole game.
It's like a breath of fresh air to see Banjo & Kazooie get some proper recognition.
Love your videos!!
I kinda hate how much hate byleth gets JUST BECAUSE HES A FIRE EMBLEM CHARACTER. Just because he’s a fire emblem character doesn’t mean he’s bad

Also the stage is casual heaven, so fun on freeforall and teams
PJ: I don't like Joker, I like slow fighters.
Also PJ: I don't like Byleth, he is too slow.
Yeah, I really don't understand his criteria for ratings these characters, but there's no semblance of any consistency in his analysis/reasoning whatsoever.
I honestly wouldn't mind the rambling of all of the DLC characters in one video. I like how you go into detail of what you like and don't like and why.
Banjo was my dream character and he's the one I still use the most as my secondary
Idk I mainly get the DLC for the characters and they're all quite fun so it's great imo

@kirb vibin Shigesato Itoi said that he doesn't want to make anther Mother game after Mother 3 and wants to move on to other things.
Byleth is fun to play, but this doesn't change the fact that they aren't well-designed as a DLC character. It doesn't justify having to pay extra for the character.
My favorite is probably still Hero for getting me into a series I didn’t care about at the time. Funny how much I did a 180 on him
Same here!

I personally think the DQ song selection is pretty good.
I've had near 20 of my favorite characters ever added to smash and I am incredibly grateful for that, what's funnier tho is that Terry is the character I didn't know I needed, He is my main, have become a fan of KOF ever since and am now more in love with him/his stuff than ever before.

Stage is a first in smash and so well done, Amazing final Smash, like honestly there is nothing bad about this pack, imo, its actually perfect I 100% agree
pjiggles try not to make a video that's split into parts challenge
Glad to see Banjo-Kazooie getting love. My only problem with them is we barely got any Tooie content. Only 3 songs, with only 1 being remixed, nothing in the stage (it’s clearly it before the events of Tooie), and not a single Tooie spirit. Klungo doesn’t even get a spirit, even though his theme is one of the remixed songs. Most of the representation comes from their move set
Banjo doesn’t even have the Pack Whack which would’ve been a funny move while being unique.
@@squallleonhart9387 Maybe Banjo's back throw is a reference to Pack Whack??????
I was kinda mad when Nakoruru didn't grab the smash invite when the trailer first dropped because I had only a general idea of who Terry was.
As a Fatal Fury and KoF fan, I give Terry's pack a 15/10
Can never go wrong with the legendary hungry wolf
Now I really wish they went all the way with Byleth's gimmick and actually let them switch weapons. I know it would've made the character _waaaaaaaay_ more difficult to create, but I just really want there to be _some_ FE character I actually enjoy playing.

@@JacobPDeIiNoNi Sure, Byleth is technically unique, but that's a very low bar when you consider how many clones are in this game. You need more than uniqueness to make a good character. Mish-mashing a moveset together in a way that is incoherent isn't the way to go about things.

I really like when people just give their own opinion instead of keeping everything subjective, so thanks for this.
The reason why the selection of Dragon Quest music (and why the selection is the downgraded midi versions of the tracks) is so bad is because the composer at the time, Koichi Sugiyama, was INCREDIBLY strict with how the music he composed was used because Square Enix didn't own the music, he did.
it’s funny when you said big fan after banjo and kazzooie did 2 midairjum
