Hey Pjiggles! I have an idea for a missed opportunity: So you already know that some characters have unique death animations/sounds. Well I've been wondering why Steve doesn't make his oof sound when he gets hit (or at least for his KO animation in Stamina Battle, kinda like Terry)
Man Toon Link mains that watch PJiggles really can’t catch a break. First they learn that their portrait is cut off weirdly, and now they learn that their rumble is weird.
Canceling Kazuya's down tilt (Nejiri Uraken) is something you can actually do in Tekken 7 as a mixup. While not quite as useful in Smash, its awesome Sakurai added that little detail.
@@themanwithaplan5425 Personally I don't play Kazuya in Tekken (Paul Phoenix for life), but the ability to cancel that attack was something added in T7 Season 2(?). As far as I'm aware Kazuya doesn't have other moves that can cancel in that same fashion. Another tidbit is in Tekken 7, when you canceled Nejiri Uraken (which is a low hitting attack) it puts Kazuya in a crouching state, meaning you can do While Rising 2 (WR2) which is that gut punch he uses in Smash that uses the same input (Demon God Fist). In Tekken, you can only block low attack while crouching, but you CAN'T block MID hitting attacks while crouching. This meaning Kazuya can mix you up with either the low or the mid which is EXTREMELY rewarding when it connects, much like it does in Smash. When canceling Nejiri Uraken in Smash, it strangely leaves Kazuya in a standing state, UNLESS you hold down and manually input the WR attack, giving it the same function it has in Tekken 7. Sorry for the long reply, but I figured it would help explain it to those that haven't/don't play Tekken understand how this move works in its home game.
@@gustavomartin2565 Ah. 7 has been the only game in the series I've put a decent amount of time into, and my brother plays Kazuya. Wasn't aware he's had it for a while lol
12:35 ACKSCHUALLY Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the crossover platform fighting game developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd. and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch, was released on December 7th, 2018, not December 7th, 2017.
Fun Fact: the reason why Kazuya isn't symmetrical, but Ryu, Terry and Ken are is because it matches their home games. In Tekken, it's about the stances your fighter is in as characters aren't symmetrical. However both the King Of Fighters / Fatal Fury and Street Fighter series have fighters flip around to keep symmetrical. So there is a reason why it's only Kazuya and not the other three.
That is correct, but I'd like to add that both series have had games using 3D models (Street Fighter EX, Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition and KOF: Maximum Impact to name a few) and in those, the characters on the right side have their backs face the camera, just like in Tekken. It seems like they wanted to stay true to their 2D games, as their more recent games using 3D models (like Street Fighter IV and The King of Fighters XIV) have them flip around like in Smash.
I think for the most part we can apply this logic to the other characters. Mario used sprite flipping for classic games, but so did King K. Rool (despite him not being symmetrical).
@@dabluepittoo-aqua4213 You're fine, I accidentally copied you on this one. At least it's nice seeing people around who play Smash and other fighting games too. Usually it's just one or the other or so I’ve seen in some places.
Useless Fact: Peach, Daisy, Toon Link, Mii Gunner, and King K. Rool are the only characters whose World of Light battles don’t take place on a Final Destination variant.
Similarly. Sonic and shiek have glitched special moves in W.O L. Shiek's burst grenade won't blow up if you have item buffs. And Sonic's homing attack when used on the ground wont rise into the air. But I'm not entirely sure why it happens.
Kazuya not being flipped while the other FG characters are actually makes sense given the nature of Tekken compared to other games. In Tekken, the buttons you press are actually linked to one of the fighter’s limbs, and in those games the characters aren’t flipped to keep that “limb-button” concept functional. This is unlike Street Fighter, Fatal Fury and other 2D fighting games, where even 3D models are usually flipped for gameplay reasons, such as having consistent visual cues regardless of the side you’re on and the sort
Yep, so something like Wind God Fist/EWGF is always done with the right hand, no matter which direction he faces, because it uses the "right punch" button.
8:36 for Kazuya, its simple. Unlike the other fighting games, which started as sprite-based fighters, Tekken has always been a 3d series. The other fighting games utilized sprite mirroring, while Tekken keeps track of orientation iirc
Additionally, in Tekken, every button is asigned to one of the fighter's limb (Left button is left hand, upper button is right hand, same goes for legs), so it would make sense to make him not mirrored, if they wanted to make the character more close to the source.
Another interesting fact about Kazuya’s “victory” theme is that he is the only character in the franchise who has an announcer say his full name, Kazuya Mishima. Makes sense since his full name was used by the announcer in Tekken 7 as well.
I mean, the announcer says Mewtwo’s full name too. But I assume you meant out of the characters who have canon last names that aren’t used on the select screen, like Cloud Strife and Ken Masters and Sonic the Hedgehog.
@@supernutz1262 Maybe it's not on his birth certificate, but that's the official name he's referred by. As opposed to, say, King Dedede. If the announcer just called him "Dedede", that would not be his full name IMO.
Now that you mention it, a left-handed salute is often considered rude and unprofessional (unless of course your right arm is injured or missing, but that doesn't apply to Falcon). The Smash team probably didn't want to risk sending a mixed message, so they made the taunt reversible. Although, they probably could've just made Falcon turn around before saluting. With that "functionally symmetrical" fact with the Ice Climbers, I'd like to also point out Donkey Kong's cargo throw. He lifts the fighter with one hand as he carries them around, but when you turn left or right, he actually switches hands. (DK does the same thing with barrels in Donkey Kong County Returns, and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.)
8:53 I really like that triple reply panic thing I did upon realizing I was finally on time for one of these. Another thing I researched was the fact that DK and R.O.B. both face the camera to both the left and right, but during their turn animation, THEY TURN AWAY FROM THE CAMERA FOR NO REASON and I cannot unsee it and I lie awake at night thinking about it. Also, I'd have to dig for a list I made somewhere because some characters with multiple jumps that can turn midair have some odd clipping error in their turn animations (easier to see in slow motion) Banjo is one of them. they'll turn a full 180 degrees but sort of "snap back" to the correct positioning. So I guess those are my Useless Smash Facts contributions.
For the peculiar deaths sounds part, Inkling has it too. And when they get killed in Stamina mode (I assume same goes if they get killed by death's scythe and other insta-kills in the game), they explode with a small squid spirit that raise from their death area, the same as they do in both iterations of their own game.
10:46 I have to admit that the fact that you hid Mr. Game & Watch's silhouette despite the fact that it's already "hidden" (As in, it's already pitch black), just made me lose it when the border appeared, so thank you for the unintentional best joke I've seen all day
Here's a fact: In the circle of the middle of the screen with cute character art on the main menu, if you select online, you'll see different characters on it. If you look closely, ROB is in the far back, but he's in his Famicom alt, despite being on the American version of the game in which his default is the NES alt. None of the other characters in any menu use an alternate costume, but this is likely more an oversight than anything else.
I have a useless smash fact: Captain Falcon, Snake and Byleth are the only fighters that have a weapon they never use in smash, Captain Falcon and Snake have a gun they never use and Byleth has a dagger
another one they missed is rumble at all for byleths get up attack from ledge. im not sure if its 100% of the time that it happens, but more often than not theres no hd rumble at all and feels very very weird. HD rumble is actually really well utilized in this game and is important to how i play and make decisions in game now
8:36 In Tekken, whether you're standing orthodox or southpaw (ie flipping) is a BIG part of gameplay, as it switches buttons, thus I think Sakurai wanted to keep it faithful to the game. For Ken, Ryu, and Terry, their iterations mainly come from their 2D games, where their sprites would just mirror when sides are switched, which would justify them not flipping
During K. Rool's Counter, he's intangible for a brief moment (like 5 frames) it isn't really enough to matter but I've dodged a projectile or two with it.
@@ManuCarrotman312 I'd say it's useless because considering how small of a window it is, it's never really useful. Most projectiles, even if you time it perfectly, will still be active and contacting you on frame 6 or whenever it ends. Not to mention this only happens *after* you counter/reflect, meaning the thing you hit will probably never have contacted you in the first place. Yes, TECHNICALLY SPEAKING, it's not useless. But it's so oddly specific and not talked about that it might as well be.
@@donete8566 Well that actually makes sense considering Final Smashes slow down time, which would make the window of intangibility significantly larger.
11:21 there may be an easier method of seeing this, that being with items like the pokeball! I remember recording/submitting a long video of all the characters holding the pokeball and some of them swapping it between their hands or just keeping it with one hand (submitted via Discord, but the server gone). Still a cool fact!
Some returning characters that got changed to be mirrored in Ultimate actually revert to their previous idle animation when holding an item. Wolf and I think Sheik do that
I don't remember if this detail extends past Melee, but I explicitly remember Game and Watch's helmet in his up-smash looks different depending on which way you are facing.
Actually, I do believe that Mega Man can turn both of his hands into a buster. He just prefers his left hand. Some art shows it's on is left hand while others show it's on the right. This is also shown in the games' sprites. Since Mega Man was made to represent his NES era, I do think this might have been on purpose. :)
I literally just started playing toon link again since basically the release of ultimate and I kept thinking i was wiffing my back airs for a split second even though I'd land the hit and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why it felt like that. Now I know why.
They should've made Pac-Man's death happen in the magnifying glass. Having it stay on screen during the explosion as you watch him die in classic Pac-Man fashion.
Hey PJiggles, did you know that Sephiroth has a special victory quote just like Falco/dark pit/Lucina when he beats cloud? It's the one where he has the wing if you're wondering..
8:35 Ryu, Ken and Terry are flipped on their games when they face a different direction, since they're a part of a 2D fighting game, but since Tekken Is a 3D fighting game with 360⁰ arenas, Kazuya In that game doesn't suddenly shift to the side. Heck, characters such as Eddy and Hworang can fight with their backs turned on the opponent or engage with an invisible enemy.
Why’d you mention Eddy and Hwoarang as characters with back turn stances but not Lei Wulong? Lei has a full on backturn stance that’s a huge part of his gameplan, arguably one of his most important stances along with Tiger because of its mixup potential.
Did you know that holding shield and side taunt also allows you to shield-shift? Even with Inkling and Steve, they don't do their regular shield+special mechanics.
09:43 Well, Megaman's canon is like that because they are refering to the old way what the programmers used to save cartridge memory; mirroring sprites to look both ways
Both of the Pits are the only characters in the game that have a unique sound when side dodging or spot dodging. They replicate the dodging sound from KI Uprising. I might be wrong, since the dodging sound in general is pretty close but it should be right, hoping so lol
At 11:44 I legitimately didn't know which way G&W was rotating, kinda like that spinning ballerina silhouette optical illusion lol, so when you said that it was his right hand first when I was imagining it as his left hand, my mind collapsed
8:36 - the reason Ken, Ryu, and Terry flip their animations while Kazuya doesn't is because Kazuya is from a game that utilizes 3-dimensional movement, so your stance is fundamentally important for hitboxes and hurtboxes. Ken, Ryu and Terry all come from games where the characters get mirrored when they turn around, whether it be functionally or literally.
Kazuya being able to cancel that attack reminds me of something I find hilarious as Donkey Kong: if you shield immediately after trying to charge neutral B, he does the start of the animation before immediately stopping (without showing the shield, if you do it quick enough). I just love how stupid and pointless it looks LOL
Fun fact- Shulk is I think the only character who can use their neutral B while having their final smash. This happens if you hit him, as Shulk has the passive ability to change arts while in hit stun. This means if you got hit with a low sending attack while with Final Smash, you could use the hit stun to switch to buster mode, tech roll in, and final smash. I haven't tested it yet, but I think if you did it fast enough, Buster would last the entire final smash.
Yeah, this actually lets you do things like N-air > art switch -- Buster and still combo into FS. The Shulk tips also tell you his FS is affected by Arts, meaning you can do more damage via Buster Chain Attack or kill faster with Smash Chain Attack. Shulk mains never lost their super specific tech.
Idk where better to put this As sora, while running, the vibrations on your controller make the pattern of footsteps, even though sora hovers above the ground when running.
Useless fact: Byleth is the only FE character that smiles when they lose(probably even during their entrance as well). A bit funny considering their character and backstory, but also a bit heartwarming considering the timeline Every other FE character has a straight face.
They’re also one of only two FE characters with more than one weapon Byleth has their lance, sword, axe, and bow The other is Robin with his tomes, levin sword, and bronze sword
It's more like the d-pad still retains movement input. I messed around with control layouts and one involved moving the special button to a shoulder. Holding it would allow you to use the c-stick for movement and to easily reverse moves. I think it also allowed you to retain movement speed. It's been a while.
2:42 I finally found it Something better than hearing Terry asking are you okay at kill percent. As a Terry main, (being one who's relevantly fluent in commands) this is just what I needed. so much savagery, swagger and power.
If you get thrown out of an arena while choosing the music, you won’t have any background music until you either start a game or manually turn it back on again
Cool thing that Steve can do. He can use his jumping taunt to activate the pressure plate and set off the tnt. If you set your tnt and let go when Steve is on the pressure plate, press the taunt and steve will jump off and on the plate and set it off.
3:43 this is not actually true. The stats determining the victory screen for doubles are ranked most important at the top to least important at the bottom, making the amount of stocks a teammate has the deciding factor most of the time.
Another random little detail with team victory screen: Joker will override any other victory screens unless it’s Sephiroth if he’s the most important. If he isn’t he’ll do a down taunt then just stand there
This one is about the banner that scrolls on the Smash Ultimate website showing all the cast, that banner takes around 2 minutes and 59 seconds to do a single loop, the same duration as the theme that played during the E3 2018 "Everyone is here" trailer, so the banner showing the entire cast lines perfectly with that song.

Imagine if most fighters had their specific game over sound effect when getting K.O.'ed. It would be so nice
Game & Watch's silhouette despite the fact that it's already "hidden" (As in, it's already pitch black), just made me lose it when the border appeared, so thank you for the unintentional best joke I've seen all day
I can't belive this game is almost finished, also i want to see pjiggles doing uselees nick all star brawl facts
I believe it will continue getting updates after the fighter pass ends
@@tezcanaslan2877 They won't update it forever though
Actually Richter ALSO has a dagger that he does not use.
Ok thanks, i didn’t knew that
Steve has a bow
@@martinhodges572 the weapons that i mentioned are visible in the characters artwork, Steve can craft a bow but in smash he may or may not have one
You forgot Isabelle
another one they missed is rumble at all for byleths get up attack from ledge. im not sure if its 100% of the time that it happens, but more often than not theres no hd rumble at all and feels very very weird.
"Power Geezer" makes me think of a really old Terry kicking ass
“I love the young people.”
During K. Rool's Counter, he's intangible for a brief moment (like 5 frames)
it isn't really enough to matter but I've dodged a projectile or two with it.
And u can turn it around
Yeah but that isn't so much of a "useless" fact isn't it? It's hardly useful still.
I actually dodged a final smash with it today :)
@@donete8566 Well that actually makes sense considering Final Smashes slow down time, which would make the window of intangibility significantly larger.
Kazuya can cancel his "down tilt" in tekken as well. It is specifically designed to bait reactions for whiff punishes.

Kazuya Mishima
“The most forgotten gameplay mode in any smash game ever”
Me: Say Smash Run and I’m going to beat you up
“Street Smash”
Me: …street what?
11:21 there may be an easier method of seeing this, that being with items like the pokeball! I remember recording/submitting a long video of all the characters holding the pokeball and some of them swapping it between their hands or just keeping it with one hand (submitted via Discord, but the server gone). Still a cool fact!
That makes things a lot easier to visualize.
I think falcons animations not just being flipped when he turns is because of his shoulder pad thing and olimar is because of his suit buttons
I think him using both busters Is a thing in one of the Japan only spin offs.
@@Klonoahedgehog
Yeah! It's in Super Adventure Rockman I think.
I literally just started playing toon link again since basically the release of ultimate and I kept thinking i was wiffing my back airs for a split second even though I'd land the hit and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why it felt like that. Now I know why.
The disrespect potential that canceling taunts into GO moves has is off the charts
They should've made Pac-Man's death happen in the magnifying glass. Having it stay on screen during the explosion as you watch him die in classic Pac-Man fashion.
I first thought that that Discord ramble at the end was gonna be about him making a new server. Oh well.
do you know why he deleted it? i only caught the last, like, 30 seconds of its existence on that day. did he make an announcement or smth?
Love taunt combos, it’s such a flex

In the Tekken games, there is no "victory theme". Either the music from the stage the match took place on plays, or there's no music.
5:16 If you use Sephiroth's Final Smash, the controller will rumble to make it sound like a meteor is soaring by.
When we needed him most, he returned
“Game and watch is a bit of a weirdo. But that’s why we love him”
Absolutely nobody would say that after a few games on quickplay
@@assassinonprozac Because I don't usually play with or against Lei, sorry.
It’s always a treat when PJiggles uploads.

Schrödingers G&W. He's both always and never looking at the camera, until you turn on his 3D animations
Referring to Ryu as the Shoto of smash is genius
Kazuya being able to cancel that attack reminds me of something I find hilarious as Donkey Kong: if you shield immediately after trying to charge neutral B, he does the start of the animation before immediately stopping (without showing the shield, if you do it quick enough). I just love how stupid and pointless it looks LOL
Dude I can never get enough of this stuff.
I actually noticed the cloud upsmash thing and it always subconsciously made me think the move was a lot weaker than forward smash
Yay was waiting for this for a long time
Fun fact- Shulk is I think the only character who can use their neutral B while having their final smash.
Me seeing Kazuya moveset and now this video:
Damn, not even the multiplication chart were that complicated.
Wow, the Pac-Man death sound only being present in street smash is probably my favourite fact so far.
The heartbeat thing makes sense. In Tekken 7, there's a heartbeat ambience that plays when you use your rage art
Idk where better to put this
As sora, while running, the vibrations on your controller make the pattern of footsteps, even though sora hovers above the ground when running.
Useless fact: Byleth is the only FE character that smiles when they lose(probably even during their entrance as well). A bit funny considering their character and backstory, but also a bit heartwarming considering the timeline
Every other FE character has a straight face.

They’re also one of only two FE characters with more than one weapon
Byleth has their lance, sword, axe, and bow

I really wish Kazuya's death animation in stamina mode was the one from Tekken. Where their hands fly up and their heads fly back.
It's more like the d-pad still retains movement input. I messed around with control layouts and one involved moving the special button to a shoulder. Holding it would allow you to use the c-stick for movement and to easily reverse moves. I think it also allowed you to retain movement speed. It's been a while.

TRUE!
