The PS2 version brings back so many great memories.
Even if I wasn't focused on the missions, I could spend hours just getting lost exploring New York and swinging around, trying new tricks, and seeing how fast I could reach one end of the city.

Til this day, I will dedust my ps2 and play it every now and then (kudos for sony that ps2 works.. my psp from 2009 still works and my ps3 works too : D). Recently I played spiderman on pc (the new ps4 game) and it was great but I was missing that getting faster on the web (r2 press) that ps2 has. The ps2 version really had it perfect, they try to replicate it and they still only mostly succed to do it : )

Jump kicking enemies in the head was solid.
And that "Tears of the Kingdom" level is still VERY visually good, and prolly my favourite.
Also, it was the gameboy advance version of either this or SM1 that basically cemented Left and Right in my memory as a kid. L to web swing and R to shoot webs (if I remember correctly).

The PC version of Spider-Man 2 literally made me cry as a child. I had played the Xbox port at the cinema, and begged my Dad for it, and one day he came home with the PC port, and when I realised it was a completely different game, and how terrible it was, I broke down into tears. Luckily he proceeded to sell the PC game on eBay, and bought me the PS2 Game.

Played the Gamecube version at the beginning of 2022 after watching No Way Home in Cinemas. And yeah it's pretty great swinging around New York city. But parts of it can be pretty difficult, especially with the Acrobat challenges, the later Mary Jane/Daily Bugle and Pizza Delivery challenges due to the extremly Strict Time Limits, trying to find all the location tokens and doing the Boat Rescue challenges to fufill the achievement was a pain as it was one of the rarest citizen challenges to come up as you had to constantly talk to people hoping it would come up. Also you cannot fall into the water ever as you will automatically fail and you had to talk to people to get that challenge again.

The console version was one of the best Spiderman games every made, let alone best games ever made in my opinion. The pizza delivery minigame was great and there were so many hidden collectables to find. Also these games were the only capacity in which I knew anything about Bruce Campbell until a year or so ago when I finally watched all the Evil Dead stuff which made those all that much better 😅 I remember I had a rental copy of the PS2 version before I actually owned the game and I got all the way to the Mysterio, Statue of Liberty part but had a bit of trouble and couldn't progress before I had to return the game. Once I owned the game I ended up beating it no problem. I recently started replaying the game on my original Xbox and it's still an amazing game!

Definitely felt like heaven getting my hands on the gba version at 12yo. I saw ur spiderman 1 analyses and I played the gameboy ver of that too but after playing sm2 which was still the best because it was literally just more spiderman for my spidey brain. My first full console spidey was ultimate and life only got better. Had ultimate for the ds too but i think i was getting spoiled at that point cuz i only remember wanting to keep playing that rather than what I actually played haha. Anyway, outside of mechanics and tight controls, the console/gameboy sm2 character designs look amazing to me and I applaud and bless the devs who are responsible.

As one of the gamers who played PC version back in the days, because I didn't had internet back then and had no idea that there is other consoles existing, outside of NES and Sega Mega Drive, I will say that I liked PC version. Sure, it is not what you expected but still, for a 13 years old me back then, it was fun. It is only later, when I found out about other consoles and games, and about PS2 version of Spider-Man 2 game. But at that point, I had already played Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man 3 and Friend or Foe. But you know what? Those are not my only Spider-Man games that I have been played. Cause, before getting PC, I played tons of Spider-Man games on 8 and 16 bit consoles. Like, Spider-Man Return of Sinister Six on NES, Spider-Man vs The Kingpin and Spider-Man and Venom Maximum Carnage on Sega Mega Drive. And they were fun. Sure, at this point I have played every single big Spider-Man game, except still that PS2 version of Spider-Man 2, but still, I have soft spot for classics. Returning to PC version of Spider-Man 2, I would say that I still like it. It is not as bad as everyone makes it to be. It's like a first movie game but a little changed and improved, in comparison to the first game.

Honestly, even though it is older and a bit jankier, I honestly like it a lot better than the PS4 game. The PS4 villains are way too easy and repetitive (literally every fight except Shocker is "dodge > web > attack, there's almost no meaningful variety", and though not as fluid I like the web swinging here much better because getting really good with it feels amazing. Too much of PS4's feels like auto-pilot. The PS4 game is definitely an impressive and fantastic game, but my preferences always leaned towards the PS2 classic because I always enjoy going back to play that more than I do the PS4 one.

From what I know of PS4 Spider-Man is that a lot of the movement seems to boil down to "hold R2 to move awesomely".
I do prefer it when there's more skill in becoming really good at the movement. I remember eventually being able to move around well without ever using the wall crawl or web.

I haven't actually tried Spiderman 2 in a while, does anyone know if they fixed the bug on PCSX2 where the game would only work while rendering via software mode?

I played console version on original XBox and it was awesome, liked this game quite a lot. Although I vividly remember that it was very hard for me at times, mostly Misterio levels and some other boss fights. After that, PC version was a very big letdown. I did finish it, but it is nowhere near that good.

I remember picking up the PC version when I was a kid - I was so excited, since all the commercials made it look so cool.
You can imagine my disappointment when I booted it up. At least the Mysterio segment looked cool.

I got this game for my PS2 a year ago because I played it as a child. And thought the side stuff is hard, repetitive and not worth the effort nothing beats webbing criminals, spinning around and hitting their friends with them in like 50km and then seeing how long they fly and hard how hard they hit the ground. Throwing criminals off rooftops and into the river is also hilarious

If I remember correctly, Spider-Man 4 was supposed to include a very similar Mysterio scene in the grocery store with Bruce Campbell playing him. Makes me wish that we got Spider-Man 4 :-(

I used to think that spiders spun webs next to buildings so that spidey could swing when I was a kid thanks to Spider-Man 2.

Back then I got my hands on the PC version of the game, not having any idea that it was different from the console one. I ended up spending a good time wondering why people were so crazy about the game until I finally got to play the PS2 version. The PC version is not only notably short and with a smaller map, but you don't even get to do free roaming. You have to unlock parts of the map as you play along and every time there's a boss battle you get a screen prompt before showing you exactly how to beat the boss. It literally is a game for little kids.
Now the console version was a complete game changer. Open world games weren't as ubiquitous as they are now, let alone superhero ones, and nearly every new Spider-Man game after that one took the blueprint from this one. People praise Insomniac's game a lot, but really all that game does is take what the previous ones did and make it look nicer. Everything started here.
