Wii version also had a qte in symbiote Wolverine boss fight where Spiderman breaks Logan back even if you are in red And also you can use the symbiote tendrils to grab and throw objects in the environment I don't know why this feature wasn't in Xbox,ps3,pc version
Fun fact: Daredevil was meant to be included in the game in very early stages before being replaced with Wolverine. Also, test levels can be played on the debug version of Spider-Man 3.
Daredevil being in place of wolverine would explain why you go to hell's kitchen and why wolverine randomly quizes you. it was orinallly intended for the guy who can tell when people are lying
This is probably my favorite Spider-Man game if not for the swinging alone. The momentum you can build up is crazy. Its also nice if when you are away from a place to swing from and try, he does the animation of trying to attach to something but cant. And also if you're swing fast enough and collide face first into a building, you'll just go splat on it and then peel off. It's so amazing.
It was basically a downgraded port of the main version of the game with some pre-rendered cutscenes and unlockable costumes. Still a solid way to play the game though.
7:27 _“So the developers made the PSP version first, then just ported it to the PS2.”_ As a developer at the time working just downstairs 1 floor from the WoS PSP/PS2 Amaze team, working on another project (Spiderman Web of Shadows DS), no, they didn't make one version and port it. They just made it for both platforms simultaneously. They're both Sony platforms and are very similar.
I bought the ps2 version back in the day thinking it would look like the Wii version...it did not later in 2011 i got my 360 and alongside gta 4 this is the second game I bought and loved it ever since
The PSP/PS2 version of the game having Raimi-like Spider-Man actually makes a bit of sense if you look into the development. A while ago, an XBox360 developer build of Spider-Man 3 leaked out and it actually contains the early idea prototype for Web of Shadows. Rather than simply using the Spider-Man 3 character models for the red and black suits, they had different models which were HD versions of the suits that made it into the PSP/PS2 game, while the other versions wound up having the more comic-accurate suits.
The DS version is massively underrated, its probably the best hand held spiderman game ever. It has a more indepth combo system than even the flagship version and its endlessly replayable cause your level can carry over through each run.
Liked it more than the other options with the only competition for me being Spider-Man 3 on the DS, though this one was still better. I liked gameplay better than story as a kid though, so I am a little biased, but I'd say the gameplay today still is not bad as far as those kinds of games are concerned
It honestly isn't. It was rated VERY well overall. In fact, it was the best rated version out of them all. It's just a shame it's so overlooked compared to the console version. The DS version is actually my favorite version out of them all.
The PS2 version is my most hated game of all time. When the game came out, my dad went out of his way to gift it to me for Christmas because I was hyped for Web of Shadows. They NEVER said that the PS2 version was going to be the same as the mobile one. I expected a downgrade like SM3, not a downright port of the PSP game. Worst Christmas ever
Yeah, that was exactly my reason for finally abandoning my PS2 and getting an XBox360. Nowhere was it ever advertised that we'd be getting an entirely different game. THe sad thing is that Spider-Man 3 was the same game across PSP, PS2 and Wii. Wii got a downscaled port of the PS3/Xbox360/PC version. Why could they not bring THAT one over to PS2?
I was desperate for it on PS2 back in the day but learned from the internet to avoid it. Didn't have a ps3. The PS2 box made me think it had extra bits of game with the subheading but I must've been a smart kid and looked everything up about it. Ended up getting the Wii version and was not disappointed.
9:01 funnily enough, not the only time Hypno Hustler was mentioned in the presense of Rhino in a Spider-Man game. He also had a mention in Friend or Foe during Rhinos boss fight
There was definitely inspiration from this game for sure and it's easy to see that! With the way how the symbiote takes over the city and with the different combat moves with the black suit. I will say that Spiderman 2 is a more polished version of web of shadows although I have noticed some features were missing at launch.
The first time I ever heard of Web of Shadows was an ad that showed I think the statue of liberty being covered by a symbiote. I've only found it once on RUclips since then but I can't find it now unfortunately. I finally did get to play the game in 2010 but it was the PS2 version. I just remember being so disappointed then finding out the other versions were completely different games
I was a kid when I got to play I had the ps2 and I was disappointed when I got it was nothing alike from what I sore on videos people playing it but I didn’t know that there were different versions of the game witch I find it a bit weird but I think that it was still cool to play it and I mad great memories
@user-lo3zx8ht3j Well boo hoo buddy, and I got Spider-Man 2 on PC instead of the Legendary PS2, Xbox and Gamecube version. If I had a nickel for every kid that was lied to and got a worse version of a Spider-Man game, I think I'd already be an oligarch
Loved Web of Shadows, played it dozens of times. It was Infamous before Infamous came out. Really liked that you have opportunity to make some choices. The game was buggy of course, at least the PC version was. Replayed it on Xbox 360 some time ago and it was much better there. Was really sad to find out that PS3 doesnt have trophies, would go for platinum in this one.
The DS version is unironically one of the best handheld games I've ever played. I wish it existed outside of that platform so more people can experience it.
Think you could do Shattered Dimensions next. The flagship version of that game (PC, PS3, 360 and Wii) remains one of my favorite games of all time and favorite non open world Spiderman game. There is also a DS port which I haven't checked out, but would be happy to find out how it is through your video on it.
I don't think I ever played the DS version, but I did play the PS3 and PS2 ones. The PS3 is one of the best Spider-Man games out there and I wish people stopped pretending the Insomniac games were groundbreaking when all they did was take elements from this game and make them look prettier thanks exclusively to being a console generation ahead. The PS2 version is very odd, but it also has some of the funniest writing in a Spider-Man game. Please discuss all the other Spider-Man games left. A couple of them don't have much in the way of alternate versions, though. The Amazing Spider-Man has a 3Ds version, which is interesting, but as far as I know the only difference between the PS3 and PS4 versions of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 are the graphics.
I never did get to play these games. Ultimate, Web, Friend/Foe and the like that weren't based on movies. I kind of regret not doing so. I wonder if there's any benefit to going back after playing the PS4 game.
I always like it when costume changes actually have an effect on game play or how the character survives the environment. 3:17 I must commend the designer who made Black Cat's booty actually look like an athletic build that a super agile super human would have. Watch the Olympic Pole Vault, if you're wondering.
I remember getting the PS2 version from former rental company Blockbuster 2 years after the game was released when I was young. When I got the 360 version, I was very surprised to see the difference between the two. I feel that with the scale of Spider-Man 2 and 3, they could've done a port just like the Wii version. Ultimately, for the PSP version, it would've needed to be the Amazing Allies Edition in my opinion.
It does suck how in the console version, after beating the main story, you can't free roam anymore afterwards (especially since you could during the story).
A lot of story elements in this game feature in the newer spiderman games too, venom taking over the city/black cat relationship in the new game for example
While i haven't been able to beat the game myself, I sure as heck remember having quite a fun time playing this on my 360 back in my Middle School days. The combat has always been the one thing i remember the most about that game and its kinda a shame that it never got replicated since. Although the camera's never been an issue for me back in the day (i can't speak for it now since it's been a long LONG time since i played that and Friend Or Foe, which i Also own still) the Wolverine boss fight is something I COMPLETELY forgot with how sudden he just stops the fight to ask some trivia questions. 😅 The PSP one I remember a bit less than the 360 version but I still remember enjoying a bit too. I think I remember trading that in because i realized hiw it wasn't like the console versions. Guess that's just how new i was to something like the PSP back in the day and just how different it was from the GBA prior. Thankfully it isn't difficult to play that again due to emulation and whatnot but it sure will be quite something now that I'm more aware of what occurs in that version.
i bought the ps2 version not knowing it wasnt the same. still feel like i was robbed. the cover is the same apart from it saying amazing allies addition
I have it for the 360 and it was one of my favorite Spider-Man games prior to the Insomniac games coming out. I went back and replayed a bunch of Spider-Man games about a year ago and ended up having to buy a new 360 because the XBONE wouldn't run this game and my previous 360 stopped reading discs altogether. I did the math and it was cheaper to get a new 360 than it was to buy this and the other Spider-Man games I have for the 360 for the PS3 (which my PS3 still works). Just goes to show you how much Web of Shadows shot up in price.
I love the PSP / PS2 version because of how much of a fever dream it is. It's one of my favorite Spider-Man games because of how ridiculous it is. The developers definitely had fun with this one and just threw every crazy ass idea they could come up with in it, and I friggin' love them for doing that!
There's abit of misinformation here, treyarch didn't make web of shadows, SHABA made the game but were given some unused assets/ unfinished animations by treyarch to help speed up development, but Shaba were the main Devs, not just a studio that helped out with some grunt work
i played the one on the Wii, its pretty much the same as PSP except low graphics, but also it gave you alternate costumes, one of which is personal for me, the cosmic spidey
Ah, I remember this game. I experienced the DS version first, and I felt frustration from constantly dying and playing tedious minigames to revive myself. I eventually stopped playing after finding no solution to swinging out of an area.
What Flandrew forgot to mention, 1 singular, most, important thing about Web of Shadows for Wii, the swinging by swinging you Wii remote, was golden, make me actually feel like i was Sipder-man, if only Wii version had free roam post the endboss to freely swing around like the real flagship versions of the game
11:30 guess that's where they took Knull's inspiration from lol. But seriously tho, i played the DS version and realized that the Symbiote Leader final boss is similar to Knull in some way, even his lair had stained glass with Venom's spider logo.
I grow up with all Three. I love them all the ps2 versions I played on my psp. Ds is fun to play and the HD (Xbox/Ps3) version is the one I spent the most played with four ending. All achievements on my 360. The Good Days.
I actually worked on this game for the Xbox 360 as a first party requirements tester. I remember late in the game it would become a slide show as the 360 couldn't handle all the crap going on when the symbiote stuff started really taking over the city and it was all armageddon.
A while ago I was presented with a choice, Web of Shadows or Shattered Dimensions both of which for wii, I was a kid at the time so I knew nothing about either, I chose Web of Shadows because it had wolverine on the cover, now I’m stuck on the web strike tutorial because the motion controls barely work
I grew up playing the amazing Spider-Man by beenox, and remember getting the second game for Christmas and being super excited, but I remeber not having as much fun with it. I played the hell out of the first game though.
9:44 - ...Y'know, I'm not surprised Jackal is in this Long story short, he's a Joker expy involved in a very long and convoluted Clone Saga story where he spent the entirety of it trolling Peter and Ben Reilly over whoever was the "real" Spider-Man, throwing in a bunch of melting Gwen Stacy clones for good measure
Before my dad bought my ps3 I had a ds that I found on the ferry to the Statue of Liberty, in it was web oh shadows, I grew up playing webs of shadow on the ds n honestly never knew there was a ps3 version
Web of Shadows is my favourite Spider-Man game. It's the one that got everything, well one thing aside, right. It wasn't the camera for me but the goddamn unskippable tutorial with Luke Cage .
it's crazy they did so much work in a few months, like jesus how is that even possible. not that i trust modern devs to make a sequel considering the ARKHAM combat curse and sweet baby inc but it's interesting nonetheless.
I remember buying WoS in PS2 expecting it to be exactly like the PS3 version. Boy, was I wrong. I played it for, like, 30 minutes before ditching it for good.
Why yes, I would like to see you do more Spider-Man games! Keep up the good work! Also, as much as I want to see some of the Activision-published Spider-Man games come to the PS5 as part of the PS+ Classics Catalog, I don't really see it happening now that Activision is owned by Sony's direct rival Microsoft.
Ah, one of the best Spider-Man games. I played it a lot. Like a LOT LOT. It was very fun. But then I found out from some fan forums that you can bug out the game on PC and force it to allow you to play in free roam mode after you beat the game! Sure, game will restart all of the missions, but your progress will be saved and all of your upgrades will be unlocked. And man, I tried so many mods for this game that I lost count. I have somewhere a full collection of them, preserved in case if I wanted to refresh my memories about it all. And then I made some of my own mods for PC version of the game. Sure, they are all about different suits, but still, it was cool to play with mods.
@@3rdDantetherapist Nope, it's a bug, because if you beat the game casually then it will return back to the beginning and resets itself. I personally tested it.
@@3rdDantetherapist Nope. You can do it from first try. I don't remember what you need to do specifically, but after that you can return back to the game via loading your save file and it will load you in open world where you can replay missions or simply explore open world with everything unlocked.
Honestly, i prefer flagship Web of Shadows combat system compared to new Marvel's Spiderman. Lots of different attacks and combos, lots more of web attacks not just throwing punches...
Shoutout to Shaba games for being the first to create the webstrike mechanic. Everyone else's imitation of the mechanic hasn't come close to its finesse 😂
Small addition for the flagship; the Wii release doesn’t have an ally system like the X-Box/Playstation release, but it does have alternate costumes.
Yeah I remember the alternate costumes on the Wii version! That was also my introduction to Spiderman 2099 I believe.
Ok that makes sense. I had the one for the Wii and when he mentioned the ally system, i thought "man, i just really never used that, hm?"

I actually worked on this game for the Xbox 360 as a first party requirements tester. I remember late in the game it would become a slide show as the 360 couldn't handle all the crap going on when the symbiote stuff started really taking over the city and it was all armageddon.
You covered pretty much every Treyarch game but I am also requesting you cover enter electro since you did the original ps1 game 🙂
A while ago I was presented with a choice, Web of Shadows or Shattered Dimensions both of which for wii, I was a kid at the time so I knew nothing about either, I chose Web of Shadows because it had wolverine on the cover, now I’m stuck on the web strike tutorial because the motion controls barely work
Early congrats on 100k subs! Well deserved!
Christ I forgot I played the DS version of this. 😂 Thanks for reminding me of it I did quite enjoy it at the time
Actually sounds like a half decent game
Do you plan to make videos for both The Amazing Spider-Man games?
I love web of shadows! Both the flagship and ds versions. Ds version has really addicting combat for being a ds tie in game.
Currently playing the game, to complete where I've left behind during high school time in cyber cafe lol
Videos on the Beenox Spider-Man games would be great
I grew up playing the amazing Spider-Man by beenox, and remember getting the second game for Christmas and being super excited, but I remeber not having as much fun with it. I played the hell out of the first game though.
For those who wonder, there a pretty decent similair game to web of shadows named spider hero 3, very good open world & similar gameplay
9:44 - ...Y'know, I'm not surprised Jackal is in this
Long story short, he's a Joker expy involved in a very long and convoluted Clone Saga story where he spent the entirety of it trolling Peter and Ben Reilly over whoever was the "real" Spider-Man, throwing in a bunch of melting Gwen Stacy clones for good measure
The neutral good ending is supposedly the real ending
So does that mean Peter loses MJ for good?
@@ricardonb6375 yep
I would totally like to see you cover the Beenox Spidey games 👍
Would you potentially cover the Friend or Foe games?
oh man yes please cover the shattered dimensions/edge of time universe
Honestly the DS version was super fun. It was my pick since at the time I couldn't find a single copy on the 360
Before my dad bought my ps3
I had a ds that I found on the ferry to the Statue of Liberty, in it was web oh shadows, I grew up playing webs of shadow on the ds n honestly never knew there was a ps3 version
Web of Shadows is my favourite Spider-Man game. It's the one that got everything, well one thing aside, right. It wasn't the camera for me but the goddamn unskippable tutorial with Luke Cage .
I wish we had new animations for black suit in Spiderman 2 PS5. It was the same as normal Pete apart from the added mechanics
it's crazy they did so much work in a few months, like jesus how is that even possible. not that i trust modern devs to make a sequel considering the ARKHAM combat curse and sweet baby inc but it's interesting nonetheless.
Anyone who likes the decision making driven story line good or bad would love the infamous games, thats what it's all about
heck yeah pls cover more spider man games
The Tom DeLonge joke made me spit my soda 😂😂😂
Flaghship is one of my favorite games of all time. Love the combat and swinging so much. That psp versions sounds fuckin bonkers.
I remember buying WoS in PS2 expecting it to be exactly like the PS3 version. Boy, was I wrong. I played it for, like, 30 minutes before ditching it for good.
8:39 This is just Foot of Gork but Marvel themed.
What rival? Not anymore.... At least not after this week....
Everything is changing so quickly huh
I loved that game so very much on the PC!
9:03 unironically a Friend or Foe crossover
I’ve never played this game, but I’ve definitely seen the intro many times.
Do it already, slowpoke 🐌
It's actually a hidden feature, not a bug
@@3rdDantetherapist Nope, it's a bug, because if you beat the game casually then it will return back to the beginning and resets itself. I personally tested it.
@@deathcold_longplaysua4846 you need to do it 3 times.
@@3rdDantetherapist Nope. You can do it from first try. I don't remember what you need to do specifically, but after that you can return back to the game via loading your save file and it will load you in open world where you can replay missions or simply explore open world with everything unlocked.
@@deathcold_longplaysua4846 I literally did it on my unmodded laptop yesterday. like 3 or four times and that's it.
you can look it up though
Loved the 5 gum bit 😭😭
I'd love to see you cover the Beenox games too.
Would definitely watch the cover of the other spiderman games. Think you could have look into the classic spiderman games on the ps1?
Honestly, i prefer flagship Web of Shadows combat system compared to new Marvel's Spiderman. Lots of different attacks and combos, lots more of web attacks not just throwing punches...
ds version is the version i grew up with such a good variation in my opinion
Great video! Love this! 💙
Shoutout to Shaba games for being the first to create the webstrike mechanic. Everyone else's imitation of the mechanic hasn't come close to its finesse 😂
