I think having vibrant colors on Spider-man's suit wouldn't have worked well seeing as nothing goes well for him and results in him being tired and hopeless throughout the story. I personally think that many of the design choices that made this game "ugly" were ultimately made to work well with the story and I think things like the big Venom eyes and brighter Spider-man coloration would've been a bit much just for the sake of accuracy (although the logos on the two suits are pretty off-putting now I look at it).
Yeah. I understand where he's coming from, but I think they went with this approach because, well it's Peter Parker. He's always gonna be down of his luck. This gritty world wouldn't complement a vibrantly colored Spider-Man at all and I personally like the ruggedness of of the important characters, including Venom. It's a city overrun by massive hordes of symbiotes, not Disneyland or some whimsical fairy tale of a dashing savior in shining armor.
That's true but his suit is supposed to contrast his dreary and mundane life the bright colors on his costume make him stand out aswell it would've worked perfect, it would make the heroes a symbol of hope in the symbiote invasion, They're supposed to stand out and not blend in with the world they're supposed to be heroes for the people.
I respect your opinion, but I’ve never had a problem with the designs. I’ve personally always thought the designs fit the world they are in. The smaller eyes on the symbiote suit fit pretty well tbh, they make him look really mad and aggressive which is probably the most recognizable side effect of the symbiote in modern media, but then again it’s your opinion and I respect it. (The symbols do kinda bother me a bit though.)

the web swinging and all the animations clipping through objects etc etc makes me cringe so hard when people try to say this game is better than spider-man ps4. the web swinging in web of shadows is worse than the web swinging in spider-man 3 and everyone knows 2 actually has the best web swinging of any spider-man game to date minus miles morales
You wrong about Venom's design, your redesign looks cleaner wich is the opposite of what Web of Shadows Venom is, he's a messy scary dark monster thats how he's portrayed throughout the game and the design fits that vibe perfectly
My favorite part about the swinging in Web of Shadows if the fact that you can hear Peter breathing heavily when really pushing his speed while he swings.
Electro’s suit design in this game is what I wished the insomniac games did. A good blend of grounded and comic accurate. I wasn’t a fan of the power armor/ plating they went for mostly all of the characters in the newer games
That “power armor” is his harness… Spider-Man deduced that Otto upgraded Electro’s harness in order for him to be close to “pure energy” as possible according to the PS4 game.

Personally, I don’t like the brighter suit. Maybe for the start of the game, but as the story gets darker, the more muddy the suit should get. I think it was a artistic choice cause of the more serious tone of the game. The one design I think looks weird is Venoms. Like I get what they were going for… but that suit is just ugh….
I like the brighter costume better because the eyes fit the depressed side of this Peter while the colors and the logo fit the jokey side of this Peter.
I actually love the design of the red and blue suit, it has a menacing battle hardened look that really fits the the world it's set in with the skinny muscular body that makes Spidey feel strong and agile. Come to think of it, I love all the designs in this game including venom, they just have this serious aesthetic that I love
You had a similiar with the TASM2 suit of the red being too dark, but just like with that case, having a brighter red doesn't work with the tone or the aesthetic choice. I'm not saying your designs look bad, they look good, but they don't feel right within the context of this game. That's also why the small eyes for the black suit works so well, because it fits with his pissed off attitude in the game. Also the large logo works with the small logo, as the logo with this suit acts more like the blue on the classic suit, being a secondary colour, so it's not a case of looking at in contrast with the lense, but rather the location of the colour pallette. I like your venom, but I like the game one more for in game as it feels like an out of control venom, who's becoming more monster like, which it's logo design showed.

dude, I totally agree with you. The author of the video could criticize the symbiotic suit, but the classic suit in this game is simply divine, the colors are chic, that blue and red, yes, there are problems with red on the PC, this is due to rendering and the fact that the developers apparently did not have time to make him the one red, which is in the game's trailers, and in the trailer, the suit destroys any other spider suit. I really like the back logo a lot, it's iconic and looks great, both the body of the spider and the legs (legs), yes, maybe not quite the perfect front emblem, but it's not that bad. And by the way, his costume redesign, in my opinion, is much worse than the game one, he said that red in the game is similar to orange, but in the end, in its redesign, it looks brighter and even more orange, so to speak (although in the redesign, red looks red and, in principle, its redesign is worthy).
Best combat though. As they advertised, I remembered fighting guys in the ground, then taking it to the air with air enemies, and then the wall. This game was insane and had amazing combat. The camera angles with the web strike was so sick, you could no even know what direction you’re in in the air, but it makes sense. I wish they make another game w the combat.

I think they were going for a uniform aesthetic with the costumes and each character’s design is consistent with it. Like the less saturated normal suit and the navy blue on Wolverine’s costume. Each costume looks exactly like it could’ve jumped off the page but in a sort of uncanny valley way that aids in the construction of the creepy tone the game has.
The suit redesigns look really good. But I do think that the venom logo should be a bit smaller. It is a bit to big and the venom suit logo should be higher.
I don't have much of a problem with the designs (heck I'm a fan of the "ugly" art direction), but... your redesigns (I will admit) are a lot better. Along with Electro's design being S-Tier quality (especially when compared to the PS4 game.

I agree with ur opinion, people say that it's supposed to look dark because the game is dark fail to understand that edge of time had a dark tone but Peter's suit looks light-hearted. Plus the city is dark and ugly, but heroes are supposed to save the city with their acts and bright costumes to give the innocent people hope, but WOS has the heroes look as ugly as the city.

6:20 THIS. This is where you got a problem. They're supposed to look like that, to match the environment. Making them super comic accurate would've made them completely off the tone. I do agree there's some truly bad choices on character models such as Venom's stupid head shape, but then they would have to be completely redone, because it's the only way to fix it. Making them brighter and with bigger features would've actually made them worse, because they would look too flat and silly in comparison to the background. PS.: It would give anyone a headache just staring at Spider-Man looking like a big untextured red spot on the screen.

Spiderman and characters have been redesigned in so many games that it's not really that hard to believe that Venom would get a slight redesign here, especially since he's the main center of this game. Well Spider-Man's eyes aren't supposed to look like f***ing balooned out, large insect eyes, like in the Ultimate Comics or TASM2 either Are They? 😂 , they are supposed to be only a tiny bit larger than what we ended up with in the game. they are moving lenses, so it's not that they are small it's that Spider-Man is squinting his eyes in anger constantly. his eyes are normal in one of the game's endings where he apologizes to Mary Jane over the phone. Spider-Man Web Of Shadows's costume used to be more vibrant, it was mishandled close to release due devs exaggerating their opinions of what people's monitor profiles woukd display the game's colours as, back in 2008. Michael Vaugh's voice acting is very much matching to Peter Parker/Spider-Man's tone of voice Except that there arises problems like him sounding either very whiny or very aggressive at times due to the game's script's mishandling of whether if Peter should be reminiscent of whether it be his annoying/dorky/charming/angsty teenage self, himself as the romanticized young man age of him or be portrayed as a youthful but definitively grown "man" as being married to Mary Jane, along with the addition of a Venom symbiote induced, costantly pissed off tone of voice.
The black suit having small eyes is perfect. This isn't your standard comic book Spider-Man game, this is an edgy, grittier version, so the black suit looking constantly pissed off and menacing works perfectly. Additionally, your rework for the red suit kinda takes away the edginess of the suit. Venom's biggest design issue in this game isn't the eyes or the logo. The eyes are fine, the problem is the size of his head in proportion to his body and the textures on said body. He's way too smooth, way too disproportionate, and your rework only really solves the logo. "Shut up, this is objectively better" Objectively: in a way that is not influenced by personal feelings or opinions. Use a dictionary once in a while, it'll make you look like an idiot less often. "I think the yellow and brown suit would've been better, since it would fit with the grungy aesthetic they were going for" This coming from the guy who thought the black suit's eyes were too small and the red suit wasn't bright enough.
Definitely love your redesign for Venom the most. His original logo looked more like a centipede than a spider, and the eyes made him look too much like some sort of sea monster or something
I see where your coming from but I disagree about the Spider-Man suits. I love the pissed off, squinty-eyed look of both suits. It gives Spider-Man a more mature and gritty look to him and it really fits the tone of the overall game, same with his colors. In fact I personally really wish that we could see this more mature look more than just what's in this game and pieces of art from Alex Ross and Gabriel Delotto. My personal Spider-Man suit would for sure have a similar look to this if I had one, though I'd go for a more washed out blue and red.

one of the things that bothers me the most about the designs in this game is that spideys symbiote suit is shaded purple while every other symbiote in the game is shaded blue. ik its just one of those little inconsistencies but its bothered me since like 2011

Bro the suit in this game is very well put together, then u basing it off the time we’re in now, on top of that this game was peak story telling and visuals for a spider-man game in its time, your calling it horrendous, when really its a work of art especially with the developers putting so much time into it, I agree on venom and slightly the symbiote suit, but other than that the red suit is still decent looking not the best but good enough to enjoy the game, plus it’s color tones are made to fit the feel of this game.

Best combat though. As they advertised, I remembered fighting guys in the ground, then taking it to the air with air enemies, and then the wall. This game was insane and had amazing combat. The camera angles with the web strike was so sick, you could no even know what direction you’re in in the air, but it makes sense. I wish they make another game w the combat.

I think they were going for a uniform aesthetic with the costumes and each character’s design is consistent with it. Like the less saturated normal suit and the navy blue on Wolverine’s costume. Each costume looks exactly like it could’ve jumped off the page but in a sort of uncanny valley way that aids in the construction of the creepy tone the game has.

I agree with ur opinion, people say that it's supposed to look dark because the game is dark fail to understand that edge of time had a dark tone but Peter's suit looks light-hearted. Plus the city is dark and ugly, but heroes are supposed to save the city with their acts and bright costumes to give the innocent people hope, but WOS has the heroes look as ugly as the city.
At first I was like "What are you talking about the game looks fine" but then when you revealed you were using mods and showed what the game actually looks like I went "oh..."
I can't express to you guys how many hours I spent swinging around this city, scaling buildings, and throwing cars at innocent civilians! Not to mention directing fans at my face so I felt like I was swinging in the wind! Lol :D

THIS. This is where you got a problem. They're supposed to look like that, to match the environment. Making them super comic accurate would've made them completely off the tone.
I do agree there's some truly bad choices on character models such as Venom's stupid head shape, but then they would have to be completely redone, because it's the only way to fix it.
Making them brighter and with bigger features would've actually made them worse, because they would look too flat and silly in comparison to the background.
PS.: It would give anyone a headache just staring at Spider-Man looking like a big untextured red spot on the screen.

I respectfully disagree with you. I think the characters all like fine myself. Honestly, it just sounds like you're completely nitpicking. Spiderman and characters have been redesigned in so many games that it's not really that hard to believe that Venom would get a slight redesign here, especially since he's the main center of this game. Also It's an old game. Of course it's not gonna look that great by today's standards. It's for the Wii, what did you expect, PS5 graphics?

Spider-Man Web Of Shadows's costume used to be more vibrant, it was mishandled close to release due devs exaggerating their opinions of what people's monitor profiles woukd display the game's colours as, back in 2008.
Michael Vaugh's voice acting is very much matching to Peter Parker/Spider-Man's tone of voice Except that there arises problems like him sounding either very whiny or very aggressive at times due to the game's script's mishandling of whether if Peter should be reminiscent of whether it be his annoying/dorky/charming/angsty teenage self, himself as the romanticized young man age of him or be portrayed as a youthful but definitively grown "man" as being married to Mary Jane, along with the addition of a Venom symbiote induced, costantly pissed off tone of voice.

This is my favourite spiderman game ever
The black suit having small eyes is perfect. This isn't your standard comic book Spider-Man game, this is an edgy, grittier version, so the black suit looking constantly pissed off and menacing works perfectly. Additionally, your rework for the red suit kinda takes away the edginess of the suit.
Venom's biggest design issue in this game isn't the eyes or the logo. The eyes are fine, the problem is the size of his head in proportion to his body and the textures on said body. He's way too smooth, way too disproportionate, and your rework only really solves the logo.

Definitely love your redesign for Venom the most. His original logo looked more like a centipede than a spider, and the eyes made him look too much like some sort of sea monster or something

I see where your coming from but I disagree about the Spider-Man suits. I love the pissed off, squinty-eyed look of both suits. It gives Spider-Man a more mature and gritty look to him and it really fits the tone of the overall game, same with his colors. In fact I personally really wish that we could see this more mature look more than just what's in this game and pieces of art from Alex Ross and Gabriel Delotto. My personal Spider-Man suit would for sure have a similar look to this if I had one, though I'd go for a more washed out blue and red.

I never had a problem with any of the character designs in Web of Shadows. The gameplay is just so fun that I didn’t think to complain about Spider-Man’s suits. You’re just nitpicking.

one of the things that bothers me the most about the designs in this game is that spideys symbiote suit is shaded purple while every other symbiote in the game is shaded blue. ik its just one of those little inconsistencies but its bothered me since like 2011

I myself played the game with mods. I preferred the Sam Raimi mods and think those fit the game kinda well

Bro the suit in this game is very well put together, then u basing it off the time we’re in now, on top of that this game was peak story telling and visuals for a spider-man game in its time, your calling it horrendous, when really its a work of art especially with the developers putting so much time into it, I agree on venom and slightly the symbiote suit, but other than that the red suit is still decent looking not the best but good enough to enjoy the game, plus it’s color tones are made to fit the feel of this game.
