    I had to use cheats to complete this game as a dumb kid. I also spent a large portion of the game playing as a generic enemy goon skin that the cheat list referred to as "Knuckles" because I actually thought I'd get to play as Knuckles the Echidna. The image of this random adult man embracing MJ in the ending is forever burned into my memory.

    As a NYer, who just finally went to Coney Island this past weekend: yes it’s all true. There are goons everywhere in the city and the amusement park is full of danger. If not for Spider-Man, we would all be struggling.

  • @SpiderDroider
    @SpiderDroider 9 месяцев назад +97

    In the GBA games continuity, Norman is actually alive, since MJ mentions that him and his goons are in jail, so i'm guessing that the glider just knocked him down.
    (Before you mention it, in the Spiderman 3 GBA game theres no mention of Harry being new goblin to avenge his father's death, he just... Suddenly appears for like 2 levels and then doesn't appear in the game anymore.)

    I adore this game and to me it's kind of a conclusion to the Spider-Man games that started on the PS1 considering the fact that it has essentially the same gameplay just more advanced.

    • @PosthumanHeresy
      @PosthumanHeresy 9 месяцев назад +47

      It's the same engine! Fun fact: there's actually four games in the series. Spider-Man PS1/Dreamcast/PC, Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro, Spider-Man: The Movie: The Game, and Spider-Man 2 PSP. This one actually entered production as Spider-Man 3, the sequel to Enter Electro, but when the movie came about they swapped it to being the movie game. And since the PSP couldn't do the open world, they just made another one for Spider-Man 2.

    • @bigkmoviesandgames
      @bigkmoviesandgames 9 месяцев назад +13

      @@PosthumanHeresy that is interesting and yeah I actually own Spider-Man 2 on psp and you're right it plays the same as well I didn't even think about it, it slipped my mind lol. Although funnily enough the PSP could actually do an open world because Spider-Man 3 was on the psp and it was free roam and was basically the same as the ps2 and wii versions.

      Coming from spiderman the pc port of the ps1 game. This game was miles ahead. I would not agree with most of what was said. It could be nostalgia. However i distinctly remember that this game required a dedicated graphics card with harware t&l which is hardware transformation and lightning ps dont judge me.
      I had a riva tnt2 and this game refused to run on my pc. But as a kid when i finally played it, i remember how much of an upgrade it was to spiderman 1. Good times.

    My first experience of this game was watching a bonus feature on the DVD for the movie. It was "Tips for the first 3 levels of Spiderman the video game." As a kid I would just watch it over and over again because I didn't have the game. I did eventually get the game and found out some of tips weren't that helpful.

    There's actually a really funny thing about the original release of this game and that's you can unlock MJ as a playable skin and when you beat the game Mary Jane would make out with her taller self. This was taken out of the greatest hits release unfortunately.

  • @UnabridgedGamer
    @UnabridgedGamer 9 месяцев назад +9

    I feel it's worth mentioning that the PC version's controls, while strangely splayed on the keyboard, made certain aspects a lot easier. Using the refined web-zip aiming and surveying levels from a high vantage point was far more intuitive.
    Also, the key thing to harness against Spike's gang are your web-attacks. While Spike himself is pretty savvy to these moves, his goons are far more susceptible to things like Web Dome and Web Pull.
    And a little bit more on the Harry Osborn alt-campaign - it's actually based on the original voice dub before they got the actors from the film to reprise their roles. As such, Josh Keaton (later Spectacular Spider-Man's VA) had his dub reworked to be Harry Osborn going up against a Hobgoblin with a full alternate script. The only thing missing were new cutscenes, which the team didn't have time for.
    Multiplayer also almost made it in, but the only aspect of it that survived was Web Bowling, one of several pieces of Challenge Mode content you can play besides the main game. There's even an Oscorp Arena mode that has exclusive enemies cut from the main game.

    • @chocov1233
      @chocov1233 2 месяца назад

      Had no idea about Josh Keaton voicing Spider-Man originally in the movie game, that's awesome, thanks for sharing that fun fact. I just assumed that he played Harry because James Franco was busy/too expensive to get.

      No, the controls and camera are pretty straightforward and move the way they need to. The game wasn’t “lackluster,” not even “for its time.” It’s a pretty competent way of adapting the film’s plot into a video game while adding extra set pieces to spice things up.

    My sister and I were stuck on the Oscorps infiltration level forever as kids, and we eventually just never went back into it. I was too freaked out by the killer robots and the blaring alarms every time I was detected, and I was confused about what I was even supposed to do or which computers to access. I was always too scared fo facing more robots to stick around to figure it out.
    All these years, I never knew what followed the beginning of that level and now that I know that it only escalates from there, I can't imagine my 8-year-old self would ever have been able to get through it.
    You're right that the controls for that game were not intuitive. I had always thought I just sucked lol, but you had the same problem as me always accidentally swining onto the ceiling or struggling with the camera. I really won't say I have fond memories of this game, not even good nostalgia.
    But we also played the GBA version and were always taken in by the charm of its distinctive art style and audio effects.

    I'm only familiar with the GBA version. That being said, there is an audio glitch in the double pack version with the second game--after you select Spider-Man 1 from the menu, the first game's opening movie will start, followed after a few seconds by the audio that should've been playing from the start. For whatever reason, adding the second game on the cartridge introduced audio lag _only_ in that one part of the first game.
    That being said, for the longest time the GBA version's OST was impossible to find, but now you can find quality rips here on RUclips. Its actually much shorter than you'd think. Here:

    7:38 These robots sound like Robots you would see in a 2000's Cartoon.

    I only played this game once when I was like 17 or something like that, I forgot a lot of things that this video helped me remember, I played the Gamecube version and it was really nice in my opinion, for some reason that failure screen when it said "MJ died" made me feel way worse than I was expecting to feel lol.

    I remember two things from this game. The Office level and the bit where Spiderman calls Shocker "The Cushion"

    I just want to say. There was another live action adaptation of Spider-Man before this. It even got movies. It was connected to the Hulk TV show and even had Daredevil appear along with Kingpin. It wasn't a bad series. I suggest a watch, if not a full watch of the show, at least to see how Spider-Man looks in live action with an American studio behind him

    Flandrew - “… then you grew up playing Spider-Man the movie, the game.”
    Me - “but which one?”
    Flandrew - “the year was 2000.”
    Me - “No no. Flandrew you missed the line!”
    As someone who puts these videos on repeat as a happy background sound whilst I do stuff around the house, you’ve conditioned me to that line. 🤣 My brain struggled for a moment without it.

    They had this game at a kids’ barbershop I used to go to, you’d play video games or watch stuff while they cut your hair. I remember Peter going “I need to track down Uncle Ben’s killer” but that’s it.
