Just as a side note, a lot of you are saying his Spider-Sense doesn’t warn him about Venom. I know that, the example I gave in the video does not require the use of Spider-Sense whatsoever. The attack happens in front of his face, he still has super reflexes lol
They did justice to all other characters in this game except Peter (and Peter's Spidey). I understand from MJ's perspective, why she jumped in front of him, because the symbiote had just made Peter suffer and she did want it near him again. But I agree that it is unrealistic for him not react faster.
I agree with you like at martin li’s bombing at city hall his spider sense warned him like a minute before but here sometimes it does not work or even if it works it warns him miliseconds ago. By the way peter could have easily dodged those lightnings at sandman boss fight because he dodges Electro’s bolts all the time. His spider sense did not even warn him at that storm nor while fighting kraven!!! So inconsistent poor writing
But Spidey Sense is not only notoriously unreliable, it also doesn't warn Peter about Venom until Venom flips and becomes evil in other media.
Also, I think this is some of the beauty of having Harry, his best friend, be the host... It can be argued that it confuses his Spidey Sense or that, as we saw in the story, Peter desperately wants to believe that Harry wouldn't hurt him, against his better judgement or even Spidey Sense...
I feel like most of peter problems are the fact his truma with aunt may death there were a few times in the game where you can tell he's bothered, and this game also felt like it was a passing of a torch where miles takes over for peter

I agree with you. Pete felt HEAVILY nerfed but I did hear a theory as to why and the game SOMEWHAT backs it up: Pete’s powers and how efficient they are can directly correlate to how much he believes in himself or his state of mind, and what was weighing Pete down this whole game? Aunt mays death. Which was something we saw resolved when miles and Li went into his mind. If this is the case I wish they made that a bit more clear bc it really does just look like he’s washed asf

Plus another thing I literally just thought of was in tobey’s SM2, the issue of Peter losing his powers came up when the theme of movie was, get this: balance. Maybe it might be why after all?
The actual only problem I had was the overeliance between Pete and Miles, and how much it felt like neither of them would survive without the other at all times

@@Ayyothatsbrandogaming Well yeah I get that, I just wished it showed off how competent Peter and Miles were on their own before Kraven went after them, especially in side mission stories, like how Miles took down the Kingpins empire in his game, instead of them just fighting Kravens men AND dealing with the symbiote invasion in like a week, but never showing off the way they can stand on their own other than just the final boss

So in my view of things, it seems that Pete has been around for like 10-12 years, doing this every single day without even being able to take a break, not to mention juggle life stuff. That has taken a toll on him mentally and physically, regardless of his powers. Remember that at the start of SM 1, they introduced Pete and MJ as exes. The spidermanning got in the way of their love life. Miles is fresh into it, but I think because he has Pete, he's always telling Miles to balance everything out, which is why at the end Miles doesn't even have his suit under his clothes, which Hailey pointed out. Pete never got that lesson from anyone... it took him this long to realise. During random team ups with Wraith, even she says 'you're getting slow'. He was completely trashed by Rhino in SM Miles Morales. Pete is tired, not weak. This whole lesson on 'balance' isn't new, it started in the first game. The reason Pete and MJ broke up was because he felt like she and everyone else was fragile and needed his protection. They even had a blow up where MJ got mad at him for not allowing her to help him, 'partners' as she called it. In SM 1 he learned that like everyone else, sometimes he needs help too.
Subconsciously, Pete always feels that he has to do everything himself and people are ALWAYS counting on him to be there for everyone, which is part of the mental burden. This is showcased when he is almost fully bonded with the symbiote and the hate has bubbled onto the surface where he says how he really feels.
Great explanation, it makes sense, there’s a lot to read between the lines. But still I think the spidey sense was not well executed, some scenes where it should’ve triggered 5 seconds earlier it triggers almost after he got the blow.
The mission in Coney Island, man, Pete was on fire there, spidey sense was going crazy, the arrow Pete stops that was gonna hit the guys face was crazy, but then in other parts felt just to the plot work.
I think, too, people forget that the symbiote sometimes gets into Pete's head and blocks out his spider sense for Venom's bloodlust
@@soleonshae8657 I don’t think Venom can do that. He can avoid been detected by Pete’s spidey sense, but block it when he’s on Peter? I never saw that.
Spider sense is not always guarantee to avoid being hit and Kraven is really fast
@@NEGAN__there was a comic where venom would wear Peter basically and fight crime. It would block peters spider sense so he couldn’t wake up. Something similar happens in the game venom controlling Peter.

Now I don't gotta sit through this video, tolerate whatever rambling this meathead of a youtuber thinks he's proving by bestowing it upon impressionable parrots, who also don't understand Insomniac's writing. I don’t really see Peters experience here. Seems like miles was the Spider-Man for 11 years not Peter. Many moments he gets hit even with his spidey sense even in the first game there was a little bit of that. Spidey sense is very inconsistent in general. And I don’t like miles overpowering Peter with the symbiote on. Before miles uses the bells and even without his electric powers miles holds down fully angered symbiote Peter.

Which speaking of the miles vs symbiote Peter fight, it irked me how in the span of a few hours kraven beats miles to a pulp, then symbiote Peter almost MURDERS kraven but then miles who lost to kraven beats Pete who beat kraven… I was like huh? Is this Pokémon or something? But to play devils advocate and counter the argument that miles beat Peter straight up, someone did say that in the miles vs Pete fight, Pete would’ve mopped miles but the reason he didn’t was because of the personal connection they have. During that fight, especially due to miles trying to talk sense into him, Pete was somewhere in there trying to actively hold back and trying to fight against the symbiotes control. Making it a lot easier for miles to handle him 1 on 1 despite their individual encounters with kraven moments prior
I view this game, the same way I view The Last of Us Part II. Fun gameplay, but contains many inconsistencies with the characters, story, & unfaithful writing that don't always connects with established source material.
@ci825 miles never lost to kraven directly lol. he spent most of his energy defeating li, and the rest of it buying time for him to escape against the hunters trying to jump him afterward. all kraven did was pick up an already exhausted miles and throw him back into a cell
Ig you could theorize and say he was starting to take back control because he wasn’t using his symbiote powers at that point in time. Cant think of any other excuses

You’re completely right. Playing the game it felt like Peter was always being saved by Miles constantly. At times I was like how is it that the less experienced Spiderman is doing a better job than the OG. To me it was also insane that Miles is able to defeat him while he’s a symbionts as well. They really did Peter dirty in this game.
I saw someone make a good point. He was able to beat him because Peter was holding back somewhat. I do see what everyone is saying with miles being stronger but… he just is. And has more powers 😂 I think Peter is just tired of being Spider-Man, like why he left miles last game and said he wanted to leave miles alone again. Miles is just the stronger individual. Mentally and physically 🤷🏽♂️

FINALLY!!! I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THIS. I have been waiting for someone to talk about this issue. Peter Parker has gotten weaker in the newer Spider-Man games and doesn't seem as powerful as he was in the first original game in 2018's Spider-Man. This was a great video to make. I'm glad that I am not the only one who thinks that Insomniac is nerfing Peter Parker.

I don’t really think it’s that he’s weaker, I just think he’s tired of being Spider-Man. Aunt mays death took a toll on him. He is mentally drained being spider for 12 years straight no breaks. That’s why he wanted to retire and it’s also why venom could infect his mind really easily and knew Peter could still potentially be a partner.

I’ve heard someone say Peter gets tossed around so much because he needs to learn the “balance” lesson, but he’s honestly not really learnt it for a decade he’s been Spider-Man. I think he gets hit a little too often a little too easily. It doesn’t bother me much but I do notice it and it annoys me a little.
I think it's more due to peter being overly exhausted and burned out from being Spider-Man for the past decade. He never had a chance to catch a break because he was the only Spider-Man constantly saving the day. This makes sense due to Peter's being overly attached to the symbiote and wants to use it to become a better spiderman.

It's even more stupid since he had it pretty balanced last game, save for the lack of funds that weren't his fault at all(since Otto couldn't get grants because the commitee wanted Iron Man shit instead of the work Otto was doing); suddenly he forgot about it? It'd be one thing if the symbiote messed it up and Peter realised that but that's not how it's portrayed in the narrative.

Peter Parker, known for being physically stronger than almost any Spider-Man. Known for lifting trains, throwing tanks, stopping collapsed buildings, tanking punches from Hulk and Thor and one shotting his villains without holding back. But now bro can’t even tank lightning bolts and his spider sense is wack asf.
this is insomniac not the comic and he ain't never tanked punches from hulk or thor cause those punches never land the only times an attack land is when they swat him like a fly and even then those attacks nearly take spiderman out of the fight

He definitely got nerfed. Seeing lots of arguments like oh he was tired and stuff, but he took a break in Symkaria, and he has a whole nother spiderman to help him, bro is NOT tired at all. Also, the villains weren't super strong either in this game. Agent venom was literally beating Kraven to a pulp at one point, and while fighting Kraven it is explicitly stated by Kraven himself that spiderman was STILL holding back, never did spiderman go all out with the black suit. The nerf is most likely because they are tryna replace peter with miles, and this is the issue. Not even a year ago, in this universe, Peter was portrayed as being very strong and capable, yet now he has been reduced in favor of miles. They really ruined Spiderman in his own game, I can't even.

You’re exactly right. And it sucks because they did this on purpose so they could make Miles the main spiderman next game. They made him weaker, characters called him slower than he used to be, and they made MJ seem like she could take down guys Peter was struggling with . From a game perspective I get that in interviews they said they wanted to get rid of the gadget wheel so it didn’t feel like the “win button” but from a story perspective this was done on purpose and it’s so sad.
I think that Peter is going to die in the next game, and a lot of people are upset that Miles will be the new main character. However, in the Spider-Man comics, Peter dies, and Miles takes over. People should have seen this coming. There are just following, for the most part, what happened in the comics and probably just showing us the transition between Miles and Peter by showing us how he is getting weaker.

Yes, they did nerf him for the "Be Greater Together" thing. Didn't you notice how often he was just down, or passed out, or in the final fight after getting the Anti-Venom he still got knocked out for you to grab the helm as Miles? The man who fought the sinister six with 16 broken bones and cleared the whole city out of raft criminals on one night's sleep on a rooftop? They've been doing that since Miles Morales. The Venom attack in the house actually has an explanation but it's still an issue. Peter's Spider-Sense doesn't warn him from friendlies, fellow heroes, loved ones let alone his best friend and actually after Venom bonded with Peter for sometime he was able to get past his Spider-Sense, mute it. So both things combined makes for a good explanation, what doesn't, is that Spider-Man is INCREDBLEY agile and fast he was able to stop a bullet after the trigger was pulled. So him not dodging that attack? Yeah, it doesn't cut it. He was absolutely nerfed, no arguments about that. Partnership is cool but Miles isn't on Peter's level at least not yet, he's supposed to be his mentor, the one to watch out for him, not just his partner.
I know I hate this that's like saying Robin one day when he gets older and becomes Nightwing is going to beat Batman one day even though that's clearly not true Peter just got his second game he shouldn't be nerfed or already on his deathbed for them to replace him with miles I absolutely hate that they're trying to make him seem weaker and less Superior 2 miles
Issues that could have been fixed easily but insomniac just wants to focus on Miles and not Peter.
Peter should have jumped infront of MJ when venom attacked with the tendrils.
Symbiote Peter should have destroyed Miles and almost killed him but then understood that he'd gone too far and stopped himself.
Scorpion should have injected Peter so that he's weakened so that when Kraven stabs him it's more believable.
Back in the Miles game when Rhino beats Peter the way it should have been explained is Rhino goes for Miles and almost crushes him but Peter steps in the way and gets hit instead of Miles. That would have worked but no they didn't do it.
Also when Peter gets the symbiote he should have been even stronger then what we got. He should have been able to beat any villain with relative ease and be shown to not even try with them.
If I was writing Spider-Man I wouldn't ever want to make him seem like a lame and nurfed version of himself but they did.
Insomniac put more effort into diversity and representation of different cultures and disabilities instead of focusing on why we bought the game and that's for Peter.

the same miles that met the charge of the rhino overpowered him with his venom punch and knock him off his feet sending him flying off his feet something peter can't just do on pure muscle alone he had to use the environment to stun rhino then follow up with a few flurries of attacks so miles attack potency is much higher than peter in the first game and him and his venom punch is much higher and stronger in the second game. the is the same miles the pulled a whole bridge towards himself in the first game he's stronger in the second game, he absorb basically a city wide explosion and fell from a height that dwarf the tallest building so following up in the second game he has that new blue electricity that is even more potent than the yellow so to say black suit Spiderman destroying miles is a lie
@@grandmastersubzero1358 The venom symbiote in the comics has Godlike feats and they referenced the story line of Knull in the game.
So when Peter gets the black suit the entire point of it is that he is invincible and feels high on power. That's why when he ultimately throws the suit away to save his morality it is a defining moment for his charecter and what makes him special. But if Miles defeats the black suit easily then what's the point of it? It has lost its intimidating factor and the fact that Miles saves Peter from the suit and not Peter himself is bad writing. Also Miles is written to be op whenever the plot requires it. He tanks a nuke and falls from the sky and 20 seconds later he's fine??? But when the Prowler shot him with a lil green beam Miles fainted for probably an hour...
@@grandmastersubzero1358 The Crane Peter help up is heavier that the bridge😂. Miles only had to pull two small pieces of the bridge together for a couples seconds and was visibly struggling. Peter had to support the entire weight of a falling crane and did it with relative ease and no signs of it being that challenging.
Peter also BLOCKED Rhino's punch in the first game with ease btw. Venom Blast is more powerful but it doesn't mean miles is PHYSICALLY stronger...he's never been on Peters level phsyically and it would make sense for him not to be in order to balance his character...other wise he's just a Gary Stu
Imagine Miles’ story with Martin Li but instead he gets his butt kicked for most of it, despite how much he’s improved. Then imagine Peter stepping in to tell Miles revenge is wrong, (instead of letting him let go of his hatred on his own) before working together to defeat and later redeem Martin Li, something Miles was meant to do. Then imagine Miles telling Peter he’s the better Spider-Man before taking a break and letting Peter go solo again. Did you do all that? Good, because that basically sums up Peter in this game for me.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Miles as much as the next guy and I’m glad he was added to the Insomniac verse for a more unique experience. However, Insomniac keeps overplaying his role in the story, to the point where they’re nerfing Peter and having Miles share the spotlight in what’s meant to be Peter’s moments.
They had Peter lose to Rhino, a villain he’s beaten multiple times and has beat in 2v1 as well (it was Miles game but they still could’ve written it better). They had Peter take more hits and get saved more against Sandman than Miles, even though he’s defeated him before and should have more experience against Sandman at his strongest (and I know Miles’ electricity would obviously do more damage than anything Peter can do. But Peter got hurt way more then he should’ve and nearly died at one point when he could’ve easily shot a web to escape). The list doesn’t even stop there. They had Peter get immediately stabbed upon facing Kraven despite the fact his spider-sense should’ve warned him. They not only had him *DIE* to this soon afterwards, but the way he died so quickly suggests he did worse against Kraven than all his other villains!
Don’t even get me started on how he was weaker than he was in the first game even with the symbiote on. He was still getting caught off guard multiple times with the symbiote on by Kraven, the Lizard, and even by some off Kraven’s HENCHMEN! What’s worse is that he lost to Miles even with the symbiote on even though he should’ve mopped the floors with him. The symbiote is supposed to be Peter at his most deadly. While Peter and Miles are relatively equal in this game, the symbiote would amp up all his physical attributes, give him a better healing factor, and give him tendrils to attack people with. This should’ve been more than enough to defeat Miles, and yet he was easily pinned down during the fight and needed to be TOLD by Miles how bad the suit was to finally get rid of the symbiote.
This completely ruined Peter’s moment for me because instead of stripping away the suits power in order to regain his responsibility on his own (like he does in every media he has the black suit except in what if stories), he had to share that moment with Miles again.
The parts with Anti-Venom was by far the biggest let down. This is arguably Peter at his strongest. He has the symbiote with none of the draw backs and is basically the kryptonite to other symbiotes too. He definitely wasn’t beating Venom on his own with how strong Venom is in game. However, Peter still should be doing most of the heavy lifting during fight. Instead he gets knocked out for half the fight, and does the same damage to Venom as Miles does whenever he’s not burning the symbiote off of Harry (which again doesn’t make sense since he’s supposed to get a strength buff from Anti-Venom). Speaking of Harry, why couldn’t Peter heal him? Yes it’s genetically bonded to Peter now but it still has healing capabilities. He could’ve kept Harry stable until they got to the hospital instead of giving Miles the win again.
I’m praying they do Peter justice in the next game because one his most iconic villains is coming and I don’t want him to keep coming 2nd place to Miles.
i agree with most of your points I like that miles helps peter get rid of the symbiotes symbiote pete is strong but he has the sound weakness which can turn the tides in miles favor even if you don't utilize it yourself in the fight. Rhino was definetly a lazy lets just get this going. it could've been more like into the spiderverse where because peter is trying to protect miles he dies. If miles wasn't there he wins handily. but miles is a newbie he still effs stuff up. so instead that's how peter should get knocked down. Theres not a clear enough justification for why peter is effing up so much he feels incompetent just to reach the story beats. instead of making his failures justified and believable. if at least peter acknowledged he was weaker or something was holding him back from his full potential. Sure Kraven can hunt all the sinister 6 with ease individually. he's still one guy. peter was in a 1v1 and not even distracted and he dies
I don’t understand this losing to rhino thing. Like Peter doesn’t beat Rhino in a one to one, we’ve never seen that. It makes sense for Peter to lose that battle. He only lost cause he was letting miles take the wheel and that led to rhino escaping and him trying to baby sit miles while trying to get rhino. He can’t outsmart him when he has to baby sit miles.
Also if you forgot, Rhino was beat by Peter using scorpion to lock him in a box, not by knocking him out

The Venom moment at Mays house could just be explained that Peter’s spider sense isn’t triggered by Venom because the symbiote was bonded to him and didn’t trigger his spider sense. However, that was never stated in the game.

Bruh thats common knowledge. In almost all interactions venom doesn't trigger his spidey sense, and in this it makes more sense considering the fact that harry is the host
That still doesnt explain how mj reacted quicker then pete. Pete still has way faster reflexes. I think narritively it wouldve been better if pete pushed mj out the way and then was thrown into the fridge.
@@brobob52 I guess you could just say that Pete was feeling overwhelmed in the moment. Though I’m more curious about how MJ was fine after taking a direct hit from 19 inches of Venom. Then again, the Scream symbiote probably healed her.

I do dislike that Peter needs the Symbiote just to be on the same level as Miles. Even if he doesn't have Miles's extra abilities, he's stronger, faster, and has way more experience than Miles. Without the symbiote though, he struggles a lot where he doesn't need to in order to give Miles the spotlight. Spider-Man 2 honestly makes Peter out to be completely incompetent. Spider-Man Miles Morales did the same thing in the opening fight with Rhino, having him get knocked out fairly easily against someone he has plenty of experience dealing with, even if Rhino's suit was upgraded.
I love Miles, but I hate that Peter is always nerfed when he's around in almost every story they're both in. Peter is perfectly capable of dealing with most things that are thrown at him alone, but as soon as Miles is in the picture, all the sudden he's completely incompetent on his own.

I agree with a lot of the points you made in this vid ngl, i was thinking the exact same thing as i played thru the first time. I'd honestly say that I wouldn't even care that Peter got his ass beat the whole game if Miles took as many L's as Peter did, and if Peter was the one to save Miles as many times as Miles had to save Peter.
That's not what happened in this game, Peter was in several near-death situations and Miles or someone else had to save him every time. Inversely with Miles he only gets in like maybe 2 near-death situations; one when he's trapped in Kraven's arena and Symbiote Peter goes to save him, and one when he tries to save Peter from the symbiotes at city hall and Li has to save him.
It feels very imbalanced with the amount of times Miles had to be saved in comparison to Peter, and I didn't really like that.
Venom was also about to kill Miles before MJ tossed a sonic emitter

For MOST of the scenes concerning the spider-sense, I've always had the idea that it would always alert Peter but he can make blunders where he can be a situation where he can't physically get out of the way be it no space, in the middle of delivering a punch, or he gets attacked from so many directions that the spider-sense can't keep up, by someone like the "Spot". But the scene with MJ getting in the way to block, it was a bit much. I feel like this game could've done with another "Crane-scene/Helicopter chase" scene for Peter like in the first game to reaffirm that he is the amazing Spider-man.
Kinda like miles and scorpion earlier in the game, but that also raises other questions. Let’s assume that because both are still alive, they’ve managed to dodge most if not all bullets fired at them. Then that would mean they should realistically be able to dodge 90% of the things they get hit by, like scorpions tail. And if they can’t move out of the way all the time, they should’ve been gunned down a long time ago. Side note I can’t even dodge bullets in the gameplay consistently :/

Miles was shining the entire game beginning to finish. They made Peter look like a helpless child without Miles
i just played the game and I feel like before Peter got the symbiote, MIles was way stronger and more fun to play with. Then once Peter got the symbiote and even after when he had the anti-venom it was more fun to play as him and he felt way stronger. So I don't agree with how you say Peter was weak start to finish.

I agree with you on the Kraven and Rhino parts as it did unsettle me with how he was taken down so quickly by both of them.
With the Sandman fight I go back and forth on as on the one hand I was sitting there with my friend wondering how Peter could've possibly survived as Spider-Man for 8 years with Sandman doing stuff like that but I think events on those levels were a bit on the rare end.
Involving him getting hit by Venom it's mentioned that he was suffering from fatigue after the symbiote removal so I can live with it.
For Kraven I kinda can excuse that because it was a big surprise for Pete. It was too easy but let's say ok.
For Rhino and Sandman on the other hand, it's not good at all. I let it pass at the time for Rhino because it was a Miles focused game, but with what they did during Spider-Man 2, I can't anymore.
For Venom, the way MJ react faster than him is ridiculous. I don't mind if he was tired and couldn't give his best against Venom, the enemy is simply too strong, and there is the emotional damages, so it's okay. But then, even with the anti Venom suit, Peter can't do much and don't have his big moment to shine during the climax.

I feel like everyone forgets that in the FIRST GAME during an MJ Mission, she says Fisk sliced open Peter with a sword rather young into his career, and despite that, he was able to swing to MJs place before collapsing
In this game, hes dying only a few seconds later due to a stab wound (with the knife still inside, stopping some bleeding unlike what Fisk did)
I'm pretty sure the knife has some sort of poison in it so it's comic accurate and that's why he died so fast

That does make sense, but you would think that, unlike a regular person, a superhero could last longer from a wound like that.
It just feels like the writers couldn't think of a way for Peter to get the symbiote without making it seem like he's stealing from his dying best friend, so they just rushed the Kraven fight, which should've happened before the symbiote.
It's just a sign of poor writing, that doesn't take in consideration the character's background so they end up nerfing him in order to make the plot happen.
An easy fix would be that Pete still gets stabbed but he instead kicks off Keaven, then part of the building collapses and he has to save both MJ while Harry is boxing Kraven with Pete’s assistance thus straining the wound. And then we get a small fight with a weakened Spidey fighting off goons while bleeding out and after that is where we get the symbiote without really changing the set piece
I agree with you as well. Miles was always saving him, he never really saved Miles. Also, when has spiderman even died from a stab wound to a gut? As you pointed out, he has dealt with far greater injuries and he has enhanced healing powers

To be honest, I thought the same thing. Until they made us remember what sad scene happened in the first game. And then it came to me. He was still stuck in that moment.
Like they gave small hints that he didn't fully recover from that scene. Like he had a choice but at the same time he didn't in that scene in the first game.
It wasn't until miles and a certain someone helped him overcome that trauma when they were trying to help him with venom.

I honestly agree with you. I have seen about every Spider-Man thing in the world, and if Miles or the Symbiote was there, he would just get hit a lot of times and his spider-sense wouldn't work or it would be too late. They also could have re-wrote the story a bit. Like instead of Peter almost having to die to get the Symbiote, maybe he askes Harry for it, or the Symbiote just randomly leaves Harry and does that cool Symbiote thing that happened in the Spider-Man 3 movie.
Peter fighting kraven in that encampment area shouldve been a boss fight, not kraven somehow casually stopping spiderman punch and stabbing him and Peter somehow not notice that he got stab. They couldve just made it where Peter fights Kraven, kraven does something to either try and kill conners, harry or MJ and then thats when Peter gets injured and gets the symbiote but no lets make peter look weak YET AGAIN

Kind of unrelated but back then when they realesed the gameplay reveal trailer Peter came out of Connor’s house and he had the symbiote , people theorized that Connor’s brought the symbiote to his house to do experiments then Kraven came and turned him into the lizard, then Peter would go there and get it. I thought that was correct but in the game bro gets stabbed and that’s how he got it like bruh

Thank you for this video, I felt the same. Funny enough, I agree with you about how Peter defeat by Rhino was done in the Miles Morales game, but I was kinda ok because it's was a Miles game. It's a cheap way to make Miles shine, but at least, in a Miles focus game, why not, even if Peter is stronger than that and they could have easily just put him away for a good reason. And yes, Mary Jane reacting faster than Peter is hilarious in this game. Yes they nerfed him both physically and mentally. There is absolutely no doubt about it. It's pretty obvious that he is the one who needed saving the most in this game. Even at the very end he is not the one who saved the situation... In a Venom story where is the (supposed) to be the main character !
Peter never was invincible, he is not a Garry Stu. In the comics and every other media, he makes mistakes, and sometimes he is overpowered or defeated. The main appeal of Peter is that, even when the situation is difficult or seems impossible, he find a way to overcome the difficulties, and even if he lose something, he stand strong, he endure, and continue his road, as optimistically as he can. You don't need to go very far or in a lot of things, just play Spider-Man 1.
Now, why would they voluntarily nerfed Peter in this game ? The answer is very simple : it's the oldest writer trick in the book. When two characters are similar and you want to make one of them shine more than the other, one of them succeed the most and the other fail the most. And oh boy did they do that in Spider-Man 2. Not at any moment there was a situation that they show Peter either in a bad way, or in a weak way. He could have worked, very easily actually. Once he have the symbiote, the logical way to write him is to show him evil. They have done it, no problem. But then, when he don't have his symbiote, you can also show him to be weak because of remorse. He was clearly a little bit too ineffective by Peter standards, but let's say, ok, why not. At this point, it was still okay. Clumsy maybe, the characters are not as interesting as they were (Peter, MJ and Miles), but so far it was okay. But Then we enter the final part of the game. And in the last part... Peter, even with an Anti Venom costume, he was weak, both physically and mentally. Of course you can say that "if Peter was not here, Miles will not have succeeded to defeat Venom" and that's true. But if you play the game or watch this sequence as a movie, it's pretty obvious that Miles had is moment to shine, Mary Jane had her moment to shine, but Peter don't have an heroic moment. While playing it, I couldn't believe it but yep they have done it. Even if Peter with his magic hands defeated Venom in the most boring way possible... it's Miles who save the situation by saving Harry ! They could have a dramatic final moment for Peter and Mary Jane, but NO, Miles arrives and Harry is saved. My god... even while I write those lines I couldn't believe it myself. And of course they arrived to the point they wanted from the very beginning, Miles become the main Spider-Man while Peter who understood how awesome Miles is, let him his place... Absolute non sense for a guy of 25 years old who live with the guilt of his uncle death, but I guess it don't matter, there is a cooler Spider-Man now ! The next villain will be the Green Goblin and the Doctor Octopus, Peter arch nemesis, but who cares if it don't make sense ! It's amazing, such a good story ! I'm kidding of course, it was lazy and disrespectful for Peter who is supposed, once again, to be the main character of this game. And frankly, they could have it work very easily, have both Peter and Miles shine. But they voluntarily haven't.
Even if, let's say, the game conclude the same way, have a Peter who want to focus on his life for some time, why not. He let Miles be Spider-Man for a time. Okay . Insomniac could do DLC with Miles and without Peter, okay no problem, Peter is not available no matter what. They even could do a Miles Morales 2 since people seems to want it. Okay why not. They could even have the first part, or even a big portion of Spider-Man 3 (the main line) with only Miles, Peter side lined, and then have Peter do a triumphant come back and show the Green Goblin and Doc Ock what he got. BUT Insomniac announcement that from now on Miles will be the main Spider-Man don't let a chance for Peter. Oh don't get me wrong, Peter will be back as Spider-Man, but only as A Spider-Man, and not THE Spider-Man. And if you have any respect for Spider-Man as an iconic character like Superman and Batman, you know it's a big problem. It's both a major disrespect for the icon and a bad continuation for what they established in the first game.
The Gizmodo interview is very telling. The writer said that it was a natural progression, they want to have both Peter and Miles helping each other and clearly state that at the end Miles is the one who is stronger and then he could take the mantle of Spider-Man. It could have work if Peter is not shown during the whole game as weak, physically and mentally, and to have dropping his full Spider-Man duties (we know he is not fully retired the character say it) to Miles... at 25... While they teased the return of the Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus... I will repeat what I think and some people came to the same conclusion, if they wanted to do it well, they could have very easily show Peter be heroic during the last part of Spider-Man 2, come to the same conclusion that he just want time for himself, but still be the main Spider-Man for one last time in the Spider-Man 3 game where the Green Goblin and doctor Octopus will be villains. But no. The announcement is clear. Peter will still be A Spider-Man, but not THE Spider-Man for the third game, and that...
Even if, and it's a BIG if, they teased us with the Green Goblin and Doctopus but there will be another big final boss, one of Miles enemies. They could have Miles be the hero while Peter is very active to defeat Osborn and Octavius. But seriously, after Spider-Man 2, I have absolutely no faith that Insomniac will give Peter moments to shine even for just one moment more that Miles. They will have Silk to show how cool she is, and of course better than Peter. Also, if Osborn is not the main villain or the final boss, it's also a disrespect for an iconic villain, funny enough he also deserve to be treated the correct way.
It's funny how things changes. If someone told me two weaks ago that I will hate the Insomniac storyline, I would not believe it. I'm not stupid, when Miles was introduced, the scenario where they will voluntarily show a weak Peter and a stronger Miles was a possibility that I tough about, but, silly me, I thought that the team who wrote the Spider-Man 1 game would not fall in the easiest and laziest trick possible. But here we are, they have done it. In the Gizmodo interview, their writer said that it felt natural as their story progress. No it's not. They wanted to show that Peter and Miles are stronger by helping each other. No it's not. The main tag line for the game is "Stronger. Together." Nah. We just have to look at the title screen to see what they wanted to do from the start.
And in all honesty, I'm sad. By how things are right now. Because, even if they want people to believe that it's just to hate Miles for... reasons... It never was the case. The same people who complains about how Peter is treated in Spider-Man 2 and about the fact that he is not the main character anymore are the same who bought the Miles Morales game, and watched the Spider-Verse movie, and enjoyed it, speak about them with their friends and families, and either play or watch them again. Those fan don't hate Miles, they like him. Hating Miles NEVER was the point. Not as much as Peter because Miles is still young and he still need to prove himself in stories of his own, with Peter shadow, without any of Peter's villains and stories. Those fans like me are more that ok to follow Miles story BUT only by respecting Peter first by completing his story first. Right now, nothing is natural, they just forced Miles into the main character but putting dirt on the previous one, and it's not ok. At all. Just do a trilogy about Peter, and another with Miles. Their games would sale.
But right now, I don't want to buy any of their games, dlc, whatever. And again, if someone would have told me two weeks ago that it will come to this, I would have not believe him.

In Peter's defense with venom hitting him and mj, he can't sense venom since he's bonded with him and doesn't register as a threat to him

This game was definitely favouring Miles pretty heavily, and Pete was definitely the victim of Miles's favourite character syndrome.
Though I'd like to point out the Spider-Sense has always been vulnerable to power slipping, I agree pretty strongly with your other points though.

I'm guessing it's psychological or the state of his mind at the point where he's dealing with the death of Aunt May, trying to balance his career and responsibilities, it's like a heavy feeling in his chest he couldn't just let go that is weighing him down and dragging for so long that Miles on the other hand feels much more with power, energy and youth despite also losing his Father but he found inner peace and not go through what Peter experienced. Years of experience sometimes doesn't mean Peter is nerfed, it just shows he needs a break from all the things that he needs to get back on the super hero stuff. It was also visible in the movie adaptations where they lose the fight due to being depressed about how they feel but their strength is within how they get back up and think about the people they want to protect and loved ones that gives them the courage to carry on for all the versions of Spider-men.

The only correction in the video is that his Spider-Sense not activating around symbiotes is logical, it's just not explained in the game because Insomniac expects the reader to know that since the symbiote was part of Peter, his spider-sense doesn't trigger from the danger since it registers it as Peter attacking himself.
That doesn't explain the rest of the times Peter jobbed, like with Kraven, as you mention. The fridge was hilarious, you'd think he's an Isekai MC for knocking Peter that hard.

They very much nerfed Peter, and not simply in the story, but in the actual gameplay. This is easily evidenced by the fact that Miles unlockable abilities are twice the size of Peter's, until you get the Symbiote suit, and his powers dramatically increase, making him more fun to play. After Peter discards the suit, you, as the player, instantly feel the downgrade. This became incredibly apparent during the first encounter with the symbiote infected citizens.
During that battle, with a normally powered Peter, I was fighting for my life. I thought, wow, these guys are going to be a real challenge throughout the game. But then you switch to Miles, and he faces off against them, and I beat them relatively easily. So, either, Miles' added abilities made the fight that much easier, or they toned down the difficulty of the Miles' encounter. You can come up with different reasons for this, some less sinister than others. The game designers might have wanted you to feel Peter's desire for that suit, because without it, Peter isn't that fun to play with.
I honestly didn't have a problem at all with that. On the contrary, it felt so cathartic playing as Red suit Spider-Man again. I saw a youtuber, he actually had a problem with Miles and kept dying in his gameplay. I too prefer playing as Peter simply because of the character and not his powers.
Something Web of Shadows did really well was have the symbiote feel satisfying and stronger to use but the ol’ red and blue suit had faster combos, so there was still satisfaction with both and a detriment to neither.

This is something that has been bothering me the whole game. I know this was coming since Miles’ game, when Peter couldn’t even beat Rhino, when Peter beat Rhino and Scorpion at the same time in the first game. And it bothers me even more knowing how Kraven was “defeated”, because Peter never got a chance to learn his lesson and redeem himself. After all, it just shows how far back the push to have Miles become the main Spider-Man was planned, I guess. As someone who loves Peter to death, it’s insanely disappointing.

In the game Peter mentally wasn’t at the top of his game for multiple reasons so that could explain in story why he seemed weaker. Plus he’s been doing it for a while, he’s not old by any means but 8 + years going out daily/nightly fighting bad guys that are often just as if not stronger than him is going to take a toll on your body, Spidey’s not invincible.
Then that mean it should affect the other spider-men in other universes. this is just to make miles look good as they were pushing him hard and the nonstop dickriding he got.
@@atomic747 it does affect other versions of Spider-Man. In Spider-Man 2 Tobey lost his powers entirely because he mentally wasn’t at the top of his game. And in NWH both he and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man are revealed to have back problems due to all the swinging.

I just felt like before the symbotie, Peter was just holding back alot, like more then the first game but when he got the symbotie I feel like he was at his strongest and nearly killed kraven, I don't have a issue with kraven almost killing Peter because kraven pretty much killed almost all of spiderman rogue gallery, and kraven is more experienced and he's really strong, he made scorpion look pathetic, so for my opinion, I think the reason Peter looked weaker was because the villains are stronger then the first. Become I mean kraveb literally killed, scorpion, shocker, vulture and electro and then he also kept Martin Li prisoner. So that proves that kraven Is more powerful then what spiderman is use to, and then sandman and lizard were different in this game then last time he fought them because you can hear Peter talk about them, and well venom is self explanatory, he's just op. But if I have to be honest I think did a good job with Peter in this game, other then his spider sense because I agree with that, his spider sense was really off. But for the most part I thought he was fairly powerful in the game because also miles is more powerful then base Peter, because miles has his venom powers while Peter just has regular spider powers and his experience. But obviously Peter with the symbotie is more powerful then Miles, miles only beat him because deep down Peter was trying to fight the symboties urges
About him losing to rhino I do think he could have taken out rhino but I like to think that when rhino ran into the big thing that exploded Peter took some damage so he was weakened in his fight against rhino

In terms of gameplay, yes. His gadget wheel is no longer there. He can't utilize those crazy inventions that he could. Even his L3+R3 has been nerfed and replaced with the Symbiote. The best display of Peter in SM PS4 can be seen from a youtuber named SoniSymbiotic.
There are certain points that you brought up that also bothered me. Kraven getting the jump on him in the church, and definitley MJ taking that hit for him. I literally thought to myself, that it shouldn't happened in the first place.
But I suppose if it had to be thought out rationally, I suppose you could say that since Peter has been Spider-Man for 8+ years, that he's physically tired due to being a constant superhero always on call. But he did have Vacation in Symkaria during SM Miles Morales, so maybe he should be rested up? Idk especially the MJ Venom hit, that really annoyed me.
Kraven is supposed to be a threat in the comics he literally buried him alive and defeated while he had the black suit so why u crying over an experienced kraven usijg his skills to catch his prey it’s kind of like that’s what he’s trained to do. spider sense doesn’t tell him where the danger is it’s supposed to alert him of danger. Not sure if you knew, moron, but the black suit in Kraven's Last Hunt, the story you are talking about, was not the symbiote suit. It was a regular cloth black suit given to him by Black Cat. The problem with MJ taking Venom's hit is that if she could react SO COULD PETER. Peter is objectively superior to MJ in Speed and Reaction Time. This mf dodged Lightning from a closed door from pure precognition alone. In no universe did that Venom Tendril attack hit, but of course Insomniac wanted to make Peter look like a chump.
my problem is that for some reason they wanted to put Mj in as if she were a superhero, also look at how she alone defeated an entire squad of trained soldiers who could even kill Spiderman with just his toy gun.

On top of that do you realize how important being on guard is when it comes to battle? Kravens forces are trained hunters but they aren’t near his level and go down easier ofc. On guard they take multiple hits to knock out, but off guard one very powerful taser shock does the job.

Across Spider-Man media, Venom is effectively immune to the Spider-Sense after spending so much time with Peter, the sense doesn’t register Venom as a threat so that could be the reason why Peter didn’t react when Venom attacked, but I do agree with or without the Spider Sense he should reacted faster than MJ given his experience and not be so weighed down by a simple fridge.
And even then, it feels like a writing error not to specifically make mention of Venom’s Spider Sense immunity. Like they could have had Peter be dazed but ponder out loud why his Spider Sense didn’t work. They could even make it a plot point in the game that his Spider Sense was just not working with Venom specifically and not other Symbiotes, and then when Peter gets the Anti-Venom suit his Spider Sense is restored back to sensing Venom as a threat for gameplay purposes for the boss fight.
I will also say that I do agree that while Miles is a decent character to me, propping him by bringing Peter down is a big no for both Peter and Miles, makes people believe that Miles is getting special treatment from the writers and makes Peter seem weak or pathetic by comparison. Ultimately, I think it just boils down to inconsistent writing at times and poor excuses to get the story going which does take you out of the immersion.

I definitely noticed the inconsistent spider sense my first time through. Although, that problem isn’t uncommon in Spidey media as a whole. It’s just a really OP ability that’s probably tough to write around consistently while still putting the character in deadly situations. Not saying it isn’t a problem. I just find it easy to overlook.

It’s more than Miles saved Peter than beating him. Miles got through to Peter and he started fighting the symbiote. It basically became a 2v1 (Miles and Peter Vs Symbiote).

I would say narratively Peter was weaker because of what was going on inside.
Not saying it's a great excause but I believe its an explanation that at least makes sense. We know Peter's power relies on what he is feeling, his state of mind, everything.
The Symbiote really brings all of this to light, alongside the mission with Miles and Mr. Negative.
Miles acknowledges what Peter is going through "I know you're hurting Pete"
And specifically Mr. Negative shows the audience the inner suffering and turmoil Peter has been experiencing and it all stems from his failure to save Aunt May.
It seems like a Tobey Maguire Spider-Man 2 situation, its not the exact same, but similar. Peter is off his game because of the negative things happening in his and it takes deep effect on his abiltity to be Spider-Man.

Miles Morales belongs to the SPIDER VERSE, and Peter Parker is the OG Spidey.
Peter Parker will always be the main Spider-Man. Stan Lee said that himself and even said Peter Parker was his favourite character that he's ever made. If they want to try and push out Peter Parker and go against Stan Lee's writing of Peter Parker with how he cannot take breaks as being Spider-Man and can't live a normal life without being a superhero, they're going to lose all of their fans. Including myself and thousands of others I've already witnessed say the same thing
There are a few factors at play here: The Venom doesn't trigger his spider-sense, something that is consistent throughout media. While he was wearing the symbiote, it could be trying to "heal" him of his powers so he can fully rely on the symbiote. Third, Peter has a lot on his mind, job, MJ, losing Aunt May, etc. He needs time to heal, and his powers are reacting accordingly - similar to what we see in Toby's SM2.
Peter didn't need Spider-Sense to react against an attack that Venom does right in front of his face. MJ is just human and reacted better than him to Venom attack
Peter still has super reflexes though that aren't dependent upon his spider sense.

He wasn't nerfed, he's just getting used to working with others and in fact both Spidermen are usually stronger on their own when they are more reliant on themselves and not each other. They also value protecting one another when battling a villain and end up taking hits they wouldn't usually have taken had they had no one else to worry about. They needed each other for Sandman and Venom, but otherwise they would've been fine on their own against the usual villains like Rhino or Scorpion. Both took losses against those two villains they wouldn't have had they not been worried about protecting the other one.
I also noticed Peter takes more hits because the villains target him more because they perceive him as the stronger one, and no not because they have a longer history, or saltiness of previous fights they want to focus on Peter. But even Kraven thought it was a bigger deal to defeat Peter than Miles and he had just met them.
Peter and Miles haven't lost a single fight against a main villain when its truly been a straight up 1v1 with no distractions. The villains know this too and try to use this against them, even Rhino and Scorpion were smart enough too.
Pete with the Symbiote should have been the toughest fight in the game, given that he is the only SUPER HUMAN in a symbiote.
But hay MJ broke out of hers easier than Pete did. This game and it’s writing absolutely back peddles on this being an experienced Spider-Man. He is in his prime, he should be the fastest strongest version of himself, but ye is out performed in both strength and will power by Miles and MJ and it’s dumb.
Peter was fighting against the symbiote and using all of his strength to pull his punches against the symbiote's will... You really think he wanted to fight his student and friend? If he did, Miles would have gotten WRECKED.

This is exactly how i feel about the new fall damage feature. It just doesn't make any sense for spiderman to die or even get serioudly injured from falling, which is why I think its stupid and will never turn it on.

I feel like yes, there were some moments where peter was downgraded, but at the same time, you have to take into consideration that Peter isn't really level-headed in this game because he's still mourning the death of Aunt May
I feel like they didn’t address it properly. At no point do they mention Peter being slower or weaker (minus Wraith mentioning him getting slower after stopping a crime but that can just be banter) or convey Aunt Mays death as something that’s impacting him in a way that seems to be impacting him physically from a power standpoint. And it doesn’t help where even when he gets the anti-venting suit, Venom still treats him like fodder as Venom literally bats him aside with a tendril at one point
Honestly Peter being weaker bc of the guilt of mays death makes sense but it's undercooked. And even when he makes peace with it and seemingly is at his strongest with the ANTIVENOM suit (emphasis on the ANTI VENOM part), he still gets his butt kicked by VENOM, and not to mention Miles does better against VENOM despite Peter being the one with the FUCKING ANTI VENOM SUIT. Just makes no sense tbh
Remember in Raimi Spider-Man 2, due to stress and heartbreak he was losing his powers. I think it's a simialir case here
Lets not forget he's been Spider-Man everyday for about a decade, alone he'll be exhausted and gradually weaker overtime,
He's just lost May, his mentor, and blamed himself for it all bad things that happen in the game, this took a tole on his powers.. hence his spider-sense being slower, or consistently getting Miles (a more fresh Spider-Man) to pull him out of bad situations
We need to make more videos like this because this issue needs to be fixed. You’re definitely not alone in this I feel like they lost touch on the development Peter had in the first game. I don’t know who’s writing but they need to do their homework.

I'm annoyed because some talk about the presence of Daredevil in the dlc, one of my favorite characters, and I was curious to see their version of Cindy Moon/Silk that I liked. I feel the same way actually but i also feel this is what the story was trying to tell, Peter was exceptionally strong and independent in his own game cause he was alone in this one he knows if he screws up and miles has his back and throughout the whole game hes psychologically nerfed too due to aunt mays death and in the final sections of the game cause he didnt wanna fight harry. Even in the first game i felt like hes shown extremely strong until his emotional state is disbalanced with aunt may being sick and his mentor turning evil its only then that hes beaten by doc ock the 2nd time even though doc ock should never be a threat. I think that Peter seems nerfed in Miles’ game and SM2 because of the ending of SM 1.
Aunt May died and Peter feels directly responsible. You see that in his head when Miles and Li are dealing with the symbiote.
The reason Peter gets his butt kicked in Miles’ game is because of May’s death still affecting him, after all, it’s only been a year. And who knows, maybe he was just having an off day.
In SM2, he hasn’t come to terms with all of his trauma until the end of the game.
And then there’s the fact that he’s still just a human being. The human body can only take so much punishment before it all starts to give out. He’s been Spider-Man for about 10 years at this point. That’s a long time.
I agree with you 100%. Peter in the first game had moments where he could've died too like the sinister 6 scene or when Miles saved him when he was falling into the fire inside the other FEAST center by grabbing his web but these moments didn't feel forced or made to serve any plot point. Of course the sinister 6 combined are were going to beat him and it was understandable that Doc Ock didn't want to kill him as he knew that Peter was Spider-Man. And for the time Miles saved him in the FEAST center he did what you said he should've done when he was suffocating in the sand and shot a web that ended up missing but gave Miles a chance to save him which is what ended up happening so neither of these situations felt forced or out of place like some of Situations in Spider-Man 2. While playing this game I kept asking myself sometimes about how did Peter survive all this time without having Miles with him, like sure he got lucky sometimes and that's completely fine and realistic but the amount of situations that happened in this game where he would've died without Miles and the symbiote are too much.

I wouldn't say nerfed but you can feel he wasn't all the way focused and really emotional. In the first game he was on his A game because he was the one and only Spider-Man at the time so he couldn't afford to lose focus or get too emotional. In this one you can tell 10 plus years of solo Spider-Man really dawned on him and you can hear it in his voice how annoyed he is of it, so I really love the fact he has miles around to lend a hand.

Great video as always. I have heard similar (or outright the same) points from others, but it always came off as if they couldn't handle Peter being saved or getting help.
It was just how they presented those points and not the actual points themselves. Personally, I do think this could've been more believable if Miles took more hits than Peter or Insomniac could have better explained/shown why certain fights with old or new villains are different now (Lizard is probably a good example of them doing that).

My issue isn't the fact that Peter got his ass beat a lot, it's the fact that the same energy wasn't kept for Miles. You rarely saw Miles getting his ass handed to him in the same way Peter was for the entire game. Peter gets his ass beat so many times while Miles feels like the complete opposite. I don't wanna say it was done to make Miles look better but with the way the game ends and lowkey hints at the idea of Miles being a "Better" Spider-Man, it makes it hard to ignore that possibility.

Pete 100% was nerfed. That's what the whole story was about. Miles is the new young spider on the block, Harry now has venom abilities, and Pete is feeling left behind. A big part of his spider sense is linked to his emotional state, and insecure feelings about being the "old" spiderman could justify a loss of that ability. His whole dialog with miles saying he needs the suit and how much more he can do with it is telling you directly he's nerfed. But more realistically, it's the fact that it's hard to sell Peter would feel he needs the symbiote and to send off miles as the new main spiderman if he wasn't slowing down. I don't like it, but I can see what and why they're doing it.

I think it’s because we know peter is going through a lot of life things and that he is ultimately struggling throughout the game about May’s death as we saw when he got the anti-venom suit. So yes is spidey sense is working but not like it should and it’s possibly because of what’s on his mind constantly the death of his last living relative and his responsibility to the city.

He does get pretty beat up in the first game your right, but those were by Martin Li and Dr Octavius, two villains he hadn't fought before and had a strong emotional connection to. Then he almost dies, but to the Sinister Six an entire team of his toughest villains; and he has to fight them all at the same time.

I'm hoping so hard that they do justice to Peter's character in the 3rd game. We need a Rocky 3 style comeback of Peter training.
i believe that you are completely right when I was in little and playing the 1st SM me and my friend's were talking about how spiderman seemed invincible now were all seeing how bad peter seems and its just like why he is super experienced he should have no problem
I don't believe Peter was nerfed at all, in fact I thought he was kinda insane especially once he got the symbiote.
But one thing you have to remember is that the spider that bit Miles was made years after the one that bit Peter and with that comes perks. We see that with Miles having the Venom blast and invisibility, two things Peter does not have, but I think he has more strength too. Obviously these spiders were meant to enhance humans, they can assume Spiderman proves that the original spiders were a success so why wouldn't you go for more enhancements after? There's a reason Miles is the only one who didn't get a symbiote.
Just because Peter is more experienced doesn't mean he will always be better or stronger, doesn't work like that.

My head-canon to this situation is that in most of these encounters Peter is never alone. He has Miles or Harry or MJ helping him, so he can't concentrate on the threat, he is worried that they might get hurt. That's another reason he lost to Rhino in MM, he had an inexperienced Miles on the mission with him, thus he couldn't focus on the task at hand. In the first game the only time he needed help was after defeating Li and Octavius defeating him with all the fatigue and the 14 broken bones.
Unfortunately the only way to bring Miles up more is to diminish Peter in more situations. This is one of the things modern writers struggle with, in order to make a character stand out they have to diminish another. I think it can be done correctly but I guess it's a bit hard too. With 2 Spider-Men now, all the battles should take half the time now but then the stakes get lower so they have to balance it out with each time needing to help from each other.
Yeah Spider-Sense was inconsistent, especially in the church scene. He dodges the knife but he can't dodge Kraven, it's like: "What?..."
I also think that his mental state causes his ineffectiveness. In the last 2 years, he lost Aunt May, he struggles to get a job and in most of these missions he has someone with him making him more worried they would get hurt. Most of them also don't check on Peter much, like Miles feeling guilty he never how he is about May's death. When he and Li went inside his head they saw how much repressed he really is. Always swallowing things to get the job done, this is not very healthy. Just like we saw in Spider-Man 2 (2004) where he lost his powers cause of the repression.
Although I love the fact of how dangerous Kraven was, I think they made him a bit too powerful. It bugs me a little that Peter didn't get a fair chance with him in the red suit. Kraven surprised him with the stab and the knife was also poisonous. But yeah he disrespected him a bit much. Correct me if I'm wrong but in most comic books Spider-Man is Kraven's ultimate hunt, the one he can't take on, and that's just Red suit Spider-Man. However it does make sense that Kraven initially would not go for the Spider-Men cause they don't kill, and he wanted to be killed.
Another thing that people have disagreement is the Miles vs Peter fight. All I got to say is "Anakin vs Obi-Wan battle", aka context and the characters' mental matter here. Peter, expecially with the symbiote is more powerful but he wasn't thinking straight and was in heavy conflict within himself. And like with Harry in the end we see that the symbiote uses the host much easier than in other iterations.
Overall I think they nerfed him a bit but it also makes sense that he would be less effective with all these changes in his life, May dying and the 10 years of crime-fighting interfering with it. Cause, although there are more people helping him now (MJ,Miles,Harry), they are also in more danger and he knows that and it's making him restless.

i felt like Peter was not focused in the sandman fight which made him get hit a lot and when he fights Kraven with the black suit the black suit btw does nerf peters spider sense because the symbiote might not see Kraven, lizard and miles as a threat Also How the hell will peter get up so easily from that deep of a stab like straight up if peter didn't have any powers Kraven probably would've broken his spinal core.
For the people saying it's weak writing, hear me out. During the first few playthroughs Peter felt like the weakest person ever like I would use him and go "yeah, this guy is weak af" especially without the symbiote. But after a few more playthroughs, I kind of got it. Peter in this game is extremely tired. In the first game, he was at his peak. He was trying so hard to do everything and was not trying to beat everyone. In this game he isn't really at his best. In the first game, he had to to fight a lot harder for may and was really stressed. He had to help may, make sure everyone he cared about was safe, and so much more. For the second game, we see Peter is still upset at losing may which is what we see during the ending. He used to push so hard to just make sure may was gone and everything was okay and he had nobody to rely on. But in the second one, he blamed himself for mays death. He didn't feel like he was actually good enough and we see that Peter always underestimates himself. He gives up without trying because he still thinks he isn't a good Spiderman and compared to miles. He fights with blame and without the same arrogant and fun attitude. The symbiote sees this and relieves him of it. The peters sense not working with the symbiote also makes sense. The symbiote doesn't care much about getting hit but moreso about doing damage unlike how Peter would normally do it which is by being tactical. So basically, even if it wasn't planned out, peters reason for being weak is his self judgement after losing may. And for those who say that miles beat venom and petwer didn't, that's false. Peter did a lot of damage but venom had an open field where he could control the environment and was menacing. Miles on the other hand was also getting knocked constantly and I guarantee that without Pete and mj he would have lost too. Peter was also holding back A LOT in his fight with venom trying not to hurt him because he is Harry.
i kind of see your point but i do feel like he still shouldn't have been portraited this weak in the game. Also we've never really seen miles make any major mistakes during his fights in both miles morales and spiderman 2. Peter's spider sense didnt really feel like a spiderman's spider sense his spider sense kicks in so late to the point where you could literally say that peter has no spidersense and its comparable to a normal human being.

I just realized another thing: Spidey nearly DIED from Kravens knife to his side but.... he took Dock Ocks metal claw thing RIGHT in his mid section, he was able to walk that off. And it was IN there too, it wasn't a subtle shive, it got JAMMED because Peter was actively HOLDING IT BACK before he decided to tank it to catch Ock slippin. I get that perhaps that it was due to the location of both injuries, but compare Ocks probably reinforced arm claw thing with high grade tech in it vs Kravens relatively normal hunting knife, one can't help but look at these two injuries and go "huh? How does that work?"
They absolutely nerfed Peter. Peter would struggle only moderately fighting venom with his own symbiote suit with anti venom.
They really decided to buff the token spider-man. That’s what it came down to.
It’s very clear he’s a token Spider-Man at this point when they can’t even get his heritage flag correct. Then you listen to the trash interview the director gave about how proud he was of all the absolute non Spider-Man garbage they put in the game makes it clear all of it was for ESG and not making a better game for fans.
