"I've been to the places but I couldn't point them out on a map. I mean you just get on a plane and go there, why would you need to know where they are?!" *Good Lord, have mercy!*
It's true. Unlike with a train, the airplane flies through the air and is not restricted to tracks. With trains it helps to have some knowledge of where the destination is so you can figure out the fastest train route...but with an airplane you just fly straight there. Of course, many of us Americans and British still know where things are...and those of us who know are far more likely to vote, so the people who don't know where anything is aren't really impacting the world very much compared to those who do know where things are.

People suck at geography everywhere. Do note the UK is an island nation. In mainland Europe you learn about nations near by you. For example, not many people in Europe know UK geography. Many don't know the difference between England, Scotland, Wales, etc. Met a lot of mainland people who are just as bad at geography than anyone else in the world.

I have a theory : every country where English is the main language is bad at geography and don’t know much about the world. So -> English makes people geographically disabled? Or maybe the fact that your mother tongue is the international language makes you close minded to other cultures and places? Sorry for my English, it isn’t my native language ;)
Niccolò Borromeo But Italians are also well known across Europe as closeminded to other cultures and languages. Just like the French. (It’s a generalization, sorry). I have a theory : every country where English is the main language is bad at geography and don’t know much about the world.
So -> English makes people geographically disabled?
Or maybe the fact that your mother tongue is the international language makes you close minded to other cultures and places?
Sorry for my English, it isn’t my native language ;)
I live in Italy and a lot of people don't know geography at all, some don't even know the borders of italy. Sadly it's not just a british thing
Niccolò Borromeo But Italians are also well known across Europe as closeminded to other cultures and languages. Just like the French. (It’s a generalization, sorry). In Italy people only need to speak Italian and in France they really only need to speak French.
I feel like we in the Netherlands really have to know languages and geography. We get taught English, German and French in secundary school and all European and world geography is hammered in in primary school.
@@SuAva I'm from France and even tho what you say for language is true for older generations, it's not the case for us because we also have to learn english and German or Spanish for 10 years or so.
