And generally they were correct, I think inter-state geography is very intuitive to a lot of Americans because of how easy and frequent travel between states is. However, I feel that labeling regions within a country/state like the UK isn't necessarily the best comparison to how well we are taught global concepts given the level of detail involved in memorizing territories for every nation. I think maybe a better comparison might be that we spent a bit of time memorizing Canadian providences and Mexican States but never Chinese provinces or Indian states, emphasizing the tendency of curriculums to stress focus on learning regions closer to the US. @@captainrobots1 yeah but saying the earth is round in casual conversation makes you sound less of a pompous ass than oblate spheroid.
I’m really impressed by some of these teams! I feel like I could name a good number of cities/counties in England but hell if I could find many on a map beyond whether they’re in the north or the south!!
I need BuzzFeed UK to do "Americans Try To Label a Map of The UK". (I'm speaking as an American here.)
They should have to do the counties, not just the countries.
Nigel Marvin i think they meant labelling counties or even cities
Poppy T I’ve seen an americans try to label a map of europe and they can’t get the separate principalities of Britain right 😳
yeah but the counties are hard to label
@@dwhorton1 most Brits can't name all the counties😆. There are way more counties in the UK than there are states in the u.s.
*points to Idaho” “what’s that...who’s she?” Lol
JJLuver33 its what everyone says about our state😂
Ashley U if it makes you feel any better, I don’t think I’ve ever missed Idaho while taking 50 states tests in school. (I don’t know why that would make you feel better but I feel for you idahoians) 😂😂
@@smoakinlance6187 that makes me feel better tbh
Well, technically the U.S is considered a female country so... (by that I mean the U.S is always referred as a she)
*points to Oklahoma panhandle* “What’s this? Why did that happen?”
Slavery.
Oh really? Do you care to elaborate? I'm interested in learninga bout this.
@@linn3014 Oklahoma Panhandle has its roots to the Compromise of 1850 and in 1845 when Texas became a state, When Texas joined the Union as a slave state, it agreed not to extend its sovereignty over any territory north of 36 degrees
Roelinde Kamst texas was added to the US when the Missouri compromise was still in effect. It stated that a state could not allow slavery if it or any part of it was above a certain line (36’ 30, I believe). Part of Texas was above the line, they wanted slavery, so they gave it up.
as a black person, i shouldn’t be laughing this hard
karasuno_cos It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white, it’s just history.
Now that I think about it, if you don’t know American geography, it would seem stupid to think the peninsula was part of Michigan. Like, it’s just so random.
“mexico is not part of america” britain 2020
It's not our fault that's all we see in movies 😭 we think Mexico is the hot part of the US where action happens lol
Yusur Kassem lmao no, there’s almost no movies based in Mexico, it all happens mainly in California, New York, Texas, Florida, and Georgia
@@Xarosy yeah but they always go to Mexico either for holiday or there's some mafia or escaping to it or just some action there. So that's my impression of Mexico 😂
Yusur Kassem bro thats like saying france is a place in england, thats disrespectful to our country and our culture. Just cuz you see that in movies doesnt take away your ability to know geography 🤦
@@natelicious_money170don't worry i do actually know where Mexico is😂
All i'm saying is that's the impression i had of it when I was a kid
Sorry if that was offensive i didn't mean it like that. I've seen so many Americans mix up European countries and act as if Europe is one country so it's hilarious to me. But everyone perceives these things differently so sorry if it came off as rude
They corrected by saying “Portland is in Oregon”. But it is also the name of the largest city in Maine so correcting it wasn’t proper
when the editors dont know theres portland in maine lol...
I was going to put that there, thanks for doing that
Yes I was looking for this comment...I used to live there
That annoyed me so much 😂 Portland Maine was also around before Oregon was even thought of sooo
It is also the largest city in Oregon.
“I think that’s Maryland, that one where the president lives is also around there” i mean yeah pretty much
M M Technically he lives in Florida now.
ULTIMATE FLORIDA MAN
As a Marylander the way they say Mary-LAND is... UPSETTING
Maranda Ortiz it’s their British accents
@@MarandaOrtiz I say it like that I'm from Texas so Hi From Texas
As an American with a pretty big interest in geography, it is fun to watch these types of videos knowing that I could actually do one on Europe if asked.
For the record, I just said Europe because the US and Europe are roughly the same size. I wasn't calling Europe a country.
Yeah, I could go head to head against any average european and win. They're not the intellectual zealots they think they are.
