But there are countries in the world that will get mentioned in the news all the time or shaped the world history. The fact that you never even bothered to look at the map to memorize continents is pretty disappointing. I don't really look at it like it's only american thing. I can find plenty of young Europeans who have the same level of ignorance. You have to remember, the same people vote, the same people spread their opinions all over social media, but failed to grasp something from elementary school. It's not even offensive it just worries me. It indicates that education system failed.
@@afgncap Someone’s lack of knowledge may or may not be a reflection of the failure of an education system. At the end of the day it’s not easy to force someone to learn and if they do learn it may be to pass a test but not something that they will retain the information very well if they don’t come across it again often. Personally I am highly skeptical that any American completed elementary school without anyone ever teaching them the continents. Also keep in mind what is taught about continents differs place to place. In the the UK and the USA, North and South America are considered different continents. In much of Latin America that is not the case. So who is “educated”? Also I watch the news but these outlets usually don’t show a map when they discuss a country which is why people might know a general vicinity but not an exact location. I have watched news about the US on networks from other countries. They typically mention what state something occurred in but that wouldn’t necessarily mean viewers understand where exactly that state is within the US. iJust speaking from my own personal experience and what I’ve observed in the USA is that students within the same school are not subjected to the same level of learning requirements. I had to label countries in South America, Western Europe and the Middle East in my geography classes along with major rivers and mountain ranges. That’s probably why these people know Egypt is considered part of the Middle East because it was the ONLY African country we studied in my schools. And all 50 states. Any other knowledge I have about African countries didn’t come from a classroom. I blame parents if their kids are not as educated as they should be more than the schools.

As an Australian my Asian geography is possibly better than the average American but Australia doesn't have a lot of states (and territories) so we don't have to spend much time memorising them. I wonder how well Europeans and Asians go with geography, since their regions have more complex borders and their news would be skewed towards the local issues and languages... Yet it's easier to travel between countries in Europe but harder for Australians. It's more common for us to visit Asian countries for our holidays... And yet many of us are still ignorant about the countries we visit. That possibly depends on what sort of tourist you are.
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Especially the white guy, who mentioned how Germany invaded Poland in WW2- I loved how he used logic to find the country he probably didn't necessarily know.
I was waiting to see Central America. They skipped the part that’s in the middle between North America and South America. Also if there’s a chance to see representation of those countries would be great. The Latinos we see it’s always in the south but not the central part. We also have history with USA, in El Salvador we adopted the dollar many years ago as to now we’re the first country that has bitcoin as a currency too.
People who don't know much, at least think, they know where everything is, so they know a lot. At least they think so. And smart people are sure that they don't know everything, so they often underestimate their own knowledge.
Perhaps best of her class, but not realizing her class was real bad. She had 3 out of 11. She kept asking for clues, guessed around, looked at the interviewer for non-verbal information. Gave herself credit for New Zealand, but her first guess was about 3000 kilometers away from that. With a score of 2,7 she performed most poorly. But she tried to shape our view of her, like she did better. So how did she gave herself a 5.5? Because she's that dishonest.
Christina and Joseph definitely did better than I would have done before I deliberately learnt all the countries Lexi was nice, and she seems to have had the most correct estimation of her knowledge, I think I had known approximately the same amount except for me Europe had been easier than the Americas, of course, since I'm from Russia And I liked that Von and Flex weren't embarrassed about not knowing much. Also I loved Flex's positive attitude! Thanks for the video, it breaks the stereotype of "average dumb American". As others have pointed out, it would be great to see people from other countries do that as well :D
Seems Flex was overestimating her knowledge a lot. And she was embarrassed. Especially after she gave herself a 6.78 and only scored a 2.7, but then made that into a 5, which she subsequently turned into a 5.5. Wouldn't trust her with anything. Anything at all. As her manager, I'd double-check her on everything, since she's pretending all the time and trying to shape the opinion about her wrong self all the time. She's still average American, since many don't know anything at all. But this was to cringe.

It's one thing not to have your basic geology down, but it is another to be offended because people don't know where your country is.
I can't remember a single offensive thing in this video.
@@ajeettv mistaking geology and geography is on a verge of offensive but to be serious it's not about them not knowing where every single country is, but at least knowing the basics like I don't know continents? Biggest or most influential countries in history? Countries where you friends come from? Or maybe countries you invaded few years ago? The level of ignorance is astounding.
@@afgncap Eh, mistakes like that happen. Not too big of a deal since you obviously knew what I meant. Also not offensive at all.
Apart from that one girl, they all have had acceptable knowledge levels. Being offended by this video is just being soft.
The comment section is just Africans crying about how they didn't get the African countries right, Europeans that they didn't get the European countries right, and so on. Of course, you are gonna know your neighboring countries better than someone from the other side of the world.
You could have done the same thing with people from Germany and no one would have batted an eye if they had similar levels of knowledge. People are smh. just really obsessed with shitting on Americans every chance they get.
@@ajeettv The first part was more of a joke as I am a geology graduate and people mistaken it a lot to our discontent.
Yes, I am talking mostly about the last two people although the last girl was absolutely atrocious at this. It's not that I am offended more like disappointed. I don't know position of every country in Asia or Africa, especially the ones which are never mentioned anywhere for whatever reason.
Christina never disappoints me
Next: Ask Asians and Europeans to name the country. It's not fair that only people in the US don't know about the world.
But you see “America bad” gets views, “Europe bad” is like blasphemy on the internet.
What do you mean "US don't know". They were good. Joseph knew everything, many knew quite a lot. Just one girl embarrassed herself a lot.

The stereotype is just internet memes. Much like how you are unfamiliar with Africa or parts of North America and know Europe better, people from here are the opposite. We would know North America and South America better and would not be as efficient.
Overall we're all pretty similar on geography knowledge, more than some people might think. All it really comes down to is we all learn it in school and you forget the countries you aren't exposed to on a regular basis.
In school, we had to learn all the countries and the names of their capitals - even though I am from Europe, I still forgot(years passed) and can confuse some of them and it’s even worse with Africa and South America.

Christina and Joseph definitely did better than I would have done before I deliberately learnt all the countries
Lexi was nice, and she seems to have had the most correct estimation of her knowledge, I think I had known approximately the same amount except for me Europe had been easier than the Americas, of course, since I'm from Russia
And I liked that Von and Flex weren't embarrassed about not knowing much. You can't know everything, and I'm sure they are great in other spheres. These questions are on the thin line between "general knowledge" and "geography nerd" imo xD.
