Emma! Fantastic tips! Incidentally, I have just started to learn/pick up on drum solos. The videos I looked at were very helpful but this video had added icing to the cake! Thanks 🙏🏽🥁
When I've played with other players I can impress and sound good doing a solo and then when playing to a song I struggle and then have to just keep a steady beat solos are good to improve your stamina co ordination around the kit and work up a sweat I have to wear ear plugs tho! and also everything you said great
From the many solos I have seen over the years I have noticed that a good solo consists of a slow start maybe a simple beat and then work it up to a fill and then a faster tempo to double time to a lot of cymbal action with some double bass back down to maybe some quiet toms and some tasteful high hat work to pings on the cymbals back to some intense chops to some even faster beats to the grand finale of what your best chops are. Bonhamesk type of stuff or Tommy Aldridge. Whoever you think of when big finishes come to mind.
I like to play my electric set wile sitting in front of my big screen. I have the real drums set up in the basement with the piano and bass. I play to my own ear know one hears me play.
Hey Emma. So I started playing in 5th grade. I'm 41 now. I quit playing for 10 or 15 years and lost alot technique and now my motivation is gone. I do gig almost every weekend but I do the minimum to get by. How would you motivate yourself? Love the videos gal!
Set yourself a goal! Nothing too crazy, or maybe just a time frame to practice consistantly for a month or 2 weeks. We have 7 and 21 day practice challenges on this page - www.lovetolearndrums.com/free-stuff Emma x
5 minutes! After 30 seconds we are done. The human ear likes dynamics. If you are a fast player and that’s all you play, after a very short time, the human ear only hear’s noise.
Absolutely 💯, I've been playing drums since 2018 soon to be 6 years now I'm not intermediate but I've been called the groove surfer because I love riding the bell.
You can gospel chop out an entire solo, but it's very hard to make it not suck. Playing a more or less giant stream of 32nds, it's very easy to lack the endurance to keep it going, the flexibility and creativity to not repeat yourself too much, or the speed to make it compelling.
This young lady does a wonderful job,,,,kudos to her
Outstanding! Simple, clear, and yet so useful!! Thank you!

One of my favourite drummers, Joey Baron is excellent with dynamics. That’s what I love about his playing and style.
0:59 i like that part (tom tom snare snare 2x)
Great teaching and personality to go with it. Thanks!
Always useful tips Emma, thank you x
She’s so good that when she put her sticks down at the end of the video, it sounded musical

This is why the popularity of extreme metal genres has always baffled me

... and make your big finish a signal or trigger for the band so they know when to come back in. Joyous viewing as always.
never heard the term motif in this sense, brilliant info. got lots of ideas from this one 👍🧨
Outstanding !
Radar Love Golden Earing nice drum solo. Its still illusive.

peak facial expressions..nail it 😁
I was waiting for the "High end" at the end of the video..., many thanks anyways. 😉
It’s like songwriting or composing…. But for solo drums…😮
Drum solo's never sound good in my opinion, drums always sound better with music, especially guitars.
Yep
So THATS what I’ve been doing wrong….
woman drummer’s power shot is not powerful, ghost notes are loud
