    I'd disagree on the "AVERAGE person knows that drug tested doesn't mean drug free", people hate on Gatlin for getting caught doping but somehow love Bolt at the same time cause they all think "obviously he doesn't dope".
    Also, most of the time I use "drug tested =/= drug free" as a rebuttal "But muh -insert athlete- never failed!" I never bring it up as an initial point.

      in powerlifting specifically drug tested 99%+ of the times means drug free. People have different options if you're enhanced. There's no money in powerlifting for people to lie about it and compete in the usapl/ipf. Also you need to pay for your own shit to go to Raw Nationals and Worlds and go through a lot just to compete drug tested. Who would go through that and cheat? Very few. Not to mention they're very strict and sometimes there's unfair judging.
      No finance incentive + many other options to compete in = less chance of people cheating in the sport. my 2 cents

    • @dartfrog6439
      @dartfrog6439 6 лет назад +1

      They do cheat; I know cheaters. Some people that go to 60 person meets cheat. I'd guess 5-8% cheat, and it's not the people that finish 4th.

    To be fair, many people still say things like, "He's in the NFL, so he can't be using" and other statements of that nature. I do agree with the second point greatly though in that people need to stop accusing everyone they see of steroids. Other factors play greatly into strength as well, the biggest being genetics. It's just ignorant to say someone must be using solely based upon their strength, or that they natural solely because of a test. I am with you on never trying to speak for other people when it comes to natty status.

He doesnt want us to make non assertive comment not because he thinks we are pussy but because he wants to know how good his drug are. Drug Tested Isn't Drug Free period

  • @je1465
    @je1465 6 лет назад +4

    I haven’t watched the other video because you included the “drug tested” which Is obviously not drug free necessarily so why even add that to the title? It’s like saying drug test mr Olympia. The same way you use logic of “it’s pointless to say it” then use that same logic to not add “drug tested” to the title. We could easily assume he is drug tested couldn’t we?
    And ... no? The fact that someone makes a claim that drug tested doesn’t mean drug free doesn’t necessarily mean he has a burden on proof on a specific case. that person isn’t making an assertion on anyone on specific plus he is using “doesn’t necessarily” which leaves a lot of room for both options to be applicable to that individual case.
    In a hypothetical world where I could squat 1500 pounds and I say I’m drug tested and someone says as a side not drug testing doesn’t necessarily mean drug free, does he have a burden of proof to prove I’m on steroids? Clear answer, no
    Your entrepreneur analogy is poor because it doesn’t directly tie back to the specifics of powerlifting. People compete In specific lifts for specific placings. A 600 pound bench is exceptional wether natty or enhanced but it sure matters wether or not natty or enhanced, but we can’t know . So what are you trying to say by including “drug tested” in your title, that he is natural? Turning your logic around and it’s as viable as you made it sound in your video

  • @joemfahey
    @joemfahey 6 лет назад +47

    Saying that it is "common sense" for people to know that these athletes are on drugs in a drug tested competition, especially to people who don't compete in the sport, is completely ignorant. It is by no means "common sense".

    • @joemfahey
      @joemfahey 6 лет назад +13

    In you opinion, would you say that the drug users in the IPF are at least rare enough so that many of the elite IPF lifters can be natural? Or is it the unfortunate case that because of the inability to compete with enhanced lifters, that all the people at the top are the ones who cheated the tests?

  • @zukodude487987
    @zukodude487987 6 лет назад +1

    The average people in my life all think drug tested means they are natural, i keep explaining to them that that is not the case and they often still think that drug tests 100% fool proof when it's not. Even my brother who has lifted for years thinks one of his friends is natty because he passed random testing of somebody coming over to his house at night to do a test.

  • @chrinarai
    @chrinarai 6 лет назад +1

    Jonnie, you're a great lifter, an inspiration to naturals and clearly a drug-free lifter. The problem is that the majority of people in competitive sports, Olympics, fitness, crossfit, etc., are on gear. When you put a lot of money into something that is just what you attract - it is a case of statistics. Saying drug testing isn't foolproof is a waste of time - drug testing is absolutely useless. You can visibly see the difference between drug-free and drug-using lifters, once you have been around the game for a bit. There have been numerous confessions from people high-up in Olympics and sports like competitive football confirming this - the general public just aren't aware of it. I know you know of Jason Blaha, but he is a good example of somebody explaining the truth of how it is..

      Jamie Morris how do you know a lot of people are on drugs ? Seriously, I’m not saying you’re wrong or right, but what evidence do you have to make such a blanket statement ?

    • @jamiemorris6088
      @jamiemorris6088 6 лет назад +2

      Jacob Bonfante no worries mate because Lance Armstrongs whole team was on drugs, because the whole russian Olympic team well almost all were on drugs, Carl Lewis was on drugs, every bodybuilder is on gear many admit it, Louie Simmons talks about it. It goes on and on.

    • @jacobbonfante3037
      @jacobbonfante3037 6 лет назад +1

      Jamie Morris okay so you named 3 instances in 3 separate sports.... there are hundred of thousands of professional athletes and hundreds of professional sports. Those 3 or 4 anecdotes are not enough to make the claim you made. Not trying to start an argument but the statement you made is extremely ignorant. What about all the athletes that broke records before PEDs were created ? Also bodybuilding isn’t really a sport lol, he judging is subjective.

    • @jamiemorris6088
      @jamiemorris6088 6 лет назад +1

      Jacob Bonfante so you're just gonna ignore that evidence how is over 50% of an Olympic team on drugs anecdotal ? It's simple I said most I didn't say all. Bodybuilding is considered a sport wether you enjoy it or not. No argument intended either it's been a well mannered debate I think.

    • @jamiemorris6088
      @jamiemorris6088 6 лет назад

      Jacob Bonfante oh what about the athletes that broke records before Peds ? I'm not saying all record breakers are on drugs but a lot of them are. Clarence Kennedy is another guy who has talked about the use of drugs in Olympic weightlifting. Ok I'll admit maybe they aren't used in curling or bowls maybe but still.

    The statement about drug tested
    eq drug free being common sense is probably a consequence of your own immersion into the general sports culture. This is fairly typical of any area of expertise - there are standard facts that are considered trivial among certain groups, but are far from common knowledge. For instance, I used "
    eq" in the first sentence; I imagine only a small percentage reading this recognized that as TeX for "not equal", but had I emailed a colleague using that command, there would have been no question what I meant.
    Overall, the people that DO point that out are not doing it for general awareness. They typically do it to try to cast doubt on accomplishment or to belittle, and for that reason I completely agree that it is a pointless jab at legitimacy in the most passive aggressive way.

    There are people who genuinely believe Mr Olympia winners are natural because they don't come out and say they're on grams of stuff. If you're a lifter long term you'll have a good sense of who's on or not but I think you'd be surprised by the number of people who still think that tested = clean. Pointing out in general terms that you can beat tests is one thing, but I do agree with you that it's a passive aggressive move when talking about specific cases.

    At the end of the day using steroids is a tool to recover faster and endurance. Also at the end of the day the lifts that are being lifted are extreme in the past we wouldn't have seen some of these lifts. My personal opinion if you can lift the weight successfully what does it matter steroid or not? But I guess the issue here is people claiming to be 100% natural versus geared. I agree with candito on this issue though.

    jonnie as someone who isnt super strong but is stronger than average and have daedlifted 500 and stuff... i think one of the things going on is that people jsut dont have a conception of what is possible naturally, and can't relate to whether someone is natrual or not strength levels wise. many people think its not possible and i think you can only really know that it that possible to get that strong naturally if youve embarked on that journey yourself and gotten pretty damn strong yourself ... then you have a better idea of what is possible naturally or not and then will be able to believe people like jaisyn who really have just put in work and perfected technique and incrementally gotten better over 20 years ....... what got me serious about powerlifting was meeting a friend of mine who was stronger than everyone at the gym, deadlifted 635 and getting to know him i found out he was very very natural .... before i thought everyone including you , were just lying and on steroids ..... but yea my point is just that to some degree people simply can't relate to really strong guys and belive/dont believe in large part based on how far theyve seen how strong one can get strong naturally is .... cheers

    It's not a pointless statement because it's NOT obvious to common folk. The statement is almost always used to correct someone when they imply they don't know the difference between drug tested and drug free.

    I have talked to a lifter in the uspa that is friends with a lot of usapl lifters and says there a lot of lifters are passing drug test.
    What drug testing really is. It limits how much you can take and how close you can take it.
    Also the video Brett gibbs made a long time ago makes the usapl and ipf look bad. He was talking about how you can Literally change your out of meet testing 2 times before it counts as a fail test on the 3rd test.
    That's a joke. Add that with 2 the 4 year bans for first time offenses and you find why the usapl and ipf is a joke to me.
    I like adfpf and wdfpf. There two reasons as to why there records are so much lower. 1. Not as well known. And I mean there insanely lower. 83kg junior squat record is 511. Which I think a vast majority would agree that's doable natural. 2. You can't say no to a drug test. If you do its a life time ban. You can't switch dates etc like in ipf. You fail a drug test and your done for life.
    So In all in my opinion adfpf and wdfpf is way better than usapl and ipf

    I assume its none of my business. I compete in a “ loose” federation, which only tests if your totals are suspiciously huge and even then you can just call yourself a ‘pro’ and compete untested. My other sport, cycling broke me of really giving any credence to what athletes say, Lance, so I really don’t care what is going on on the outside. Powerlifting at the level I’m doing it at I’m only trying to beat my totals anyway, whether I get some plaque or not

    I actually disagree with the "We all know." Maybe within USAPL and IPF, but there are way more people out in the world than those that compete in the USAPL and IPF. I think some of the people who state 'Drug Tested Isn't Drug Free,' (note: some) are genuinely trying to educate people. I'm honestly not sure if it is or is not common knowledge amongst the masses. It could be presumptuous to assume this, as we come from a background of lifting, which I would say the average person does not. Also, I've met many people who believe that the ones who got busted were doing it, but no one else in the sport does it. Yeah it may seem silly to us, but they're not into the sport. They will just read a news headline, and that's the end of it, not think critically about it. We're into the sport and think a lot about this, but I don't think it's fair to label it as common knowledge, as you may marginalize non or new lifters. I've seen a ton of misinformation about steroids circulate.
    I do think, though, that there is a good percentage of people who are saying it so that they can justify being weak and lazy. They will see the greats and prefer yelling steroids, than yelling time, dedication and hard work, only cause they are not willing to give the time, dedication and hard work. It's easier to have that cognitive dissonance of "Oh, I will never be as strong as the greats, because I care about my body and won't do steroids," than it is to say, "I will never be as strong as the greats."
    In the context of USAPL and IPF however, I would have to agree that it is overall a useless and cowardly statement. Like you said, it is common knowledge within this in-group, and the statement is too general to really contribute to any discussion of the federation.

    Two points. First, it still makes sense because it will prevent drug abuse. Second, powerlifting is a 99% genetic sports, which means it is very unfair.

    I don't think the general population knows as much as you think about steroids in sports, Candito. Actually, many use NFL players as a reference to how big you can get naturally, just because they are tested. I do agree with this video for the most part though. I think people feel the need to say this sometimes because there are athletes who use the drug test to claim that they are natty beyond doubt, and this pisses off many. Simeon Panda claims natural using this argument LOL.

  • @Necrosythe2

    I agree with your points, but here's where people's problems come in. if everyone in the game knows drug tested doesn't mean drug free then what is a person trying to accomplish by saying "I am drug tested" or "this person is drug tested". you know that the person could be using even though they're tested so why would you advertise it as drug tested. it's just added on the title for views and to give them extra props.
    TLDR your same argument for why people shouldn't complain about it since they know tested doesn't mean free can also be used to argue that you or other people shouldn't be advertising themselves or others as tested when you or they know that doesn't mean free. it's done to get more clicks and fame even while knowing it doesn't mean THAT much.

    Disliked for the simple fact that "drug tested isn't drug free" is NOT obvious for most people, only those who follow really close powerlifting and other strength sports know it. The majority of people think that guys like Klokov, Ray Williams and Jaisyn Mike are life time naturals.

    Hey - sorry for my bad english, I am from Germany. I think, drug abuse happens because of competition reasons. If there was no competition (for winning medals, getting attention, attract women, inferiority complex, getting paid for advertising) or comparison to others, there would be no need to enhance your performance while suffering from side-effects. Nobody would be annoyed, about the drug abuse of other persons, because only if you compare this person to you - and you are worse - envy develops. I really hope, that my text is understandable ;)

    Candito, good video! I wanted to bring up another point also, hopefully this doesn't go under the "gutless" but also the poster child effect. Where if your sport makes money off of your face, and you are a "drug tested" sport, what would happen if that poster child failed a urinalysis. Again not accusing anyone of using little or any PED's, but I do question how ethical the testing process could be. If you have some time to look up Dr. Exum you can find some good article's about the US Olympic team and PED's cover ups. Again not trying to be gutless, but "the more you know"
