    A few clarifying questions - of the 45% of nations that do 0 testing, how many of them are actually sending lifters to worlds? Also, saying that blood testing is less effective because it caught less people might not be a full investigation of the strategy. Who were those tests targeting? The blood tests are certainly not applied at the same level as urinalysis, so I think comparing them straight across is probably missing a fair bit of nuance. Another question - who is handling/administering/scheduling and transporting the drug tests done in the USAPL? Do you realistically think there is an issue with that not being completely outsourced? IE - drug tests being scheduled and administered by close contacts of athletes?
    I do think the underlying thread of "The IPF can/should do better and test more/better" is something we can find common ground on for sure. It's unfortunate that the USAPL and the IPF couldn't find a way to sort this all without further fracturing the sport.

      I am with you in theory, but your logic on a lot of points is so biased and misses a lot. The competitiveness and massive number of meets of the US is going to contribute a lot to the higher percent of tests than other countries. When there are so many more meets and so many different high level lifters winning different meets, a bigger number of lifters will be tested. Versus a country with a very low number of top tier lifters so the same guys win the smaller number of meets. Most of your opinions have a lot of holes similar to this.
      Also, along with what Bryce said, comparing positive nonwada tests to those confirmed by wada tests is completely irrelevant. You would have test all negative nonwada tests with wada standards to compare them

      I’m not sure how it goes over so many peoples heads and even people who I believe to be relatively smart that USA PL does Wada test all of its national and international level lifters. More so than most of the countries if not all. What the IPF is mad about is that USAPL is testing at local meets through a third-party and not wada. WAda wants that money, wada controls IPF so USAPL is out And IPF is hoping Keller and his crew can prop up an organization that will pay the Wada tests and no other testing agency. It’s a monopoly.

      @@BuJammy That's simply untrue, out of competition drug testing wasn't even around until the mid to late 1990s or in some sports/countries, the early 2000s. WADA as an organization only started in 1999, and the WADA code was only finalized and signed by all countries in 2004. Before that you only had in competition testing by the IOC. Basically in the 1980s anyone could dope with whatever they wanted to *out of competition* and as long as they showed up passing, there was nothing anyone could do. Ideally drug testing was supposed to be done at national level meets by the local federations, though that in practice rarely happened.
      The drug testing standards at least regarding anabolics were much relaxed compared to now and you were allowed test to epitest ratios of 6:1, and there was no CIR testing, meaning everyone was essentially given license to cruise on moderate dose testosterone even in competition, and growth hormone also wasn't banned, though it was crazily expensive compared to now.

    My answer was a bit taken out of context. From 2011 to 2018 we paid all the Wada Testing by ourself, still with a high testing quote.
    Thats what i wrote after that:
    As we in Germany are mainly a non profit Organisation and ruled by volunteers.
    We have to work for the athletes to be able to compete, and of course, to be able to compete in the IPF. This is practicaly our main purpose.
    My question is: What is the main purpose of the USAPL?
    And when the answer of that quastion is the same, they should fullfill the requirements.
    To Other Nations: I dont want to pointing on poor nations, as one of the richest countries in the world (USA should also not) and i also think the IPF databases about drug testing are not 100% complete. But Yes, the target has to be to increase the testing rate in all those smaller nations. I think a minimum testing rate would lead into excluding a lot of nations, which also wouldnt be good for the sport. Instead the IPF/WADA should do more OOC Tests directly on international athletes. So that the costs are covered through the international community for the smaller Nations.

    I also agree that countries getting away with little to no drug testing should not be a thing.
    I dont agree with the assessment that testing with worse tests at an amateur level will somehow make the sport cleaner. While administering additional tests at a regional level certainly looks good it really doesnt do anything. There is no monetary incentive to use PEDs in our sport anyway and even less incentive to do it at a regional level. But lets say some guy does abuse drugs and is not tested at a regional level whats the worst thats gonna happen? at 13.55 "one lifter per nation can compete at worlds" is totally false. The rules are you can send 8 guys (8 for male, 7 for female) per nation into each age group. How the country itself divides it between weight classes is up to themselves, and that USAPL only sends one guy per weight class it's their choice, not the IPF's fault. They could send 2 guys to the 83s, 93s, 105s and 120s, and that would be absolutely fine. But they chose not to, so don't blame IPF for that.
    Also the fact that the top 5 in the 83s within USAPL is still better than the 2nd best at worlds is kinda suspicious no matter how many drug tests are done. You got Russel beating guys with 50kg+, Atwood beating guys with 75kg+. You even got Jake Amendola benching almost 50kg more than the guy that won worlds this year. It doesn't seem right, does it? You got other nations who are way way worse at drug testing, who are still beeing way way behind a USAPL lifter. You even got guys who has tested positive for AAS and there is still a USAPL lifter outlifting that person by ALOT. I know it's basically a meme at this point, but drug tested does not mean drug free. And that most USAPL lifters are way way better than other countries, even though they are tested more, it just seems wrong. Could it be since USA has a really big population and therefor there is a bigger chance you got a genetic freak popping up from nowhere? Possibly. But then we would most likely see someone similar in either China or India since they have 4-5 times USA's population.

    I don't see how anyone can compare USAPL and WADA tests. At least for me, a non independent org test is the same as no test, you cannot rate yourself, not even mentioning how easy is to defeat an urine test in contrast to a blood sample... An independent test org is needed, how is this implemented is the real question.

    Itd be useful to know how easy it is to pass drug tests if you KNOW when you're getting tested. Because if you can catch steroids a year in the past, then testing at worlds should be the most important thing, because that's who people look to in general, rather than national champions.
    If however you can test clean with say 2 months notice, then the problem is much much harder.
    Either way, the fact that at worlds they don't AUTOMATICALLY test the top 5 lifters and those who break or come close to a world record is unfortunate to me (not sure what their protocol is exactly)

    • @GilBatesLovesyou
      @GilBatesLovesyou 2 года назад +1

      You can't test for testosterone beyond the CIR and epitest tests, and if you use short esters like testosterone suspension you can actually be theoretically clean in 24 hours. If you had state sponsorship you could also beat CIR testing by getting testosterone made from cholesterol rather than from soybeans and yams like most pharma test is made from.
      The only drugs that can be tested for years out are the older oral steroids like dianabol, turinabol, etc, due to them leaving metabolites in fat cells similar to how THC has longterm fat metabolites. Those were the most popular drugs in powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting as testosterone beyond a low dose bloats you up way too much and you get huge and swole, but your strength doesn't go up proportionally like with those drugs. Testosterone is still plenty performance enhancing compared to not having it at all, as you could do way more training and not overtrain compared to being natural and get moderate strength increases from the drug alone, so only in meet testing would mean testosterone is defacto legalized to take as long as you can figure out a way to PCT before the meet a month out or so, you'd 100% pass the test.

    My opinion is that this comes down to a very simple difference in objective. The USAPL’s objective is to provide the cleanest platform that’s practically possible (you never guarantee it, but you can do your best, which I believe they are doing). The IPFs objective is to get to the Olympics (not a goal of a clean platform). The USAPL wants to catch cheaters, while the IPF wants to look like there aren’t any cheaters so they can seem better than Weightlifting. It’s suuuuuuuper sketchy that all the IPF blood tests came back clean in 2019… is it a bit sketchy that the USAPL does their own drug tests at the local level, but why would they even do them at all and cause this drama if they didn’t want to catch people? Why not just comply with WADA and do less testing if they wanted to help their lifters cheat? Doesn’t make sense.

    • @GilBatesLovesyou
      @GilBatesLovesyou 2 года назад +2

      Yeah, the reason I personally don't like the IPF is while I'd be happy to have powerlifting included alongside Olympic lifting in the Olympics, the IPF is trying to overtake Olympic weightlifting as the main Olympic strength sport. They're absolutely giddy about the things going on with the IWF, thinking it's their time in the sun now for inclusion into the Olympics. But the IPF imo at least as far as testing but also other weird political things like gear, etc, seems about IWF level corrupt already, just much smaller and less relevant.

    Danish lifter with some inputs:
    It's absolute horse shit that a highly tested nation like our own is supposed to compete on an even field with nations with 0 or barely any testing done. PEDs are actually straight up not legal in Denmark, not just in terms of sports, but banned by law. I don't have any aspirations to compete internationally, even though my total is above the current national record in my weight class, and knowing I'd be going up against nations without testing is definitely part of the reason why I don't feel motivated to do so.

So even small regional events are registred under IPF events, where most competitors are juniors who just wanna compare results with each other in controlled enviroment, events where in -105 adults u can get podium with 450kg total. This ramps up number of competitors, obv no one spends money to test people in events like that.
