  • Use code JONNIE for 24 dollar protein - www.jackedfact...
    My Tank Top (JONNIE also works for this) - www.jackedfact...
    Note that when I say this is a good deal, BPN is a comparable brand at 22.7 dollars per gram of protein after discount code (yes I checked lol), while this Jacked Factory is 24 dollars. You can always get protein cheaper in off brand + buying in bulk. I'll never discourage going that route. It just depends on your values as far as mixing, taste, and quality control.

    Great stuff. I personally love weighted chin ups and close grip neutral pull ups. Really feel them in my back and biceps. Terrific movement. My current max is only 45lbs but I'm 58 and completely fucked my elbow tendons rockclimbing in my late 20s and early 30s so my maxes are often dictated by tendonitis 🙄 Keep up the good work and keep enjoying yourself! Having fun and seeing results are equally key as far as I'm concerned. Cheers!

    Burrito to Candito. My chin up max is 175 lbs at 205lbs uglier non strict form no kip but chin barely to bar with out pause. Weighted chins are the best. I’ve been training from 90 degree up to chest to bar with a pause for top end strength up to 50 lbs for reps and sets now with a pause. I treat that top end strength as a separate exercise.

    It depends on height, body fat and hydration levels. I think your 170-175 number is pretty good if assuming manlet, hydrated and 10-15% body fat. If 5% body fat and dehydrated for a show you could easily be down around 150 and look even more jacked.

    • @pablowall
      @pablowall 3 года назад +1

      Don't forget waist size for proportions, I got a friend at 5'-9", 160lb that looks like a stage ready bodybuilder, because his waist is a size 28. If his waist were a size 32 then it would totally change his look, wider attachment areas will make all of his muscle bellies look much flatter, he'd have much less definition etc.

  • @AlexWitoslawski
    @AlexWitoslawski 3 года назад +44

    I think Derek was talking about "what the average person" views as jacked. I think that's a quite different standard from what people who watch fitness youtube view as jacked. In the eyes of the average person, Conor McGregor is absolutely jacked at 155lbs. In the eyes of someone who has been hanging around strength and physique sports for a long time, no, he's tiny.

    I would consider Frank Yang to be jacked. He’s posted pics where he’s standing on the scale at 149 lbs, and I think he’s around 5’8”-5’9”.
    It could be Instagram lighting and a pump, but even without that he looks like 2x as big as Mcgregor. Frank is a bit of a genetic freak imo, basically no one else at his weight/height looks as good as he does.
    His legs are on the smaller side now though. I say this with no shade to my man Frank, I know he used to have a 45-50 inch leap. Whether it’s injuries or age, or whatever, it’s basically undeniable that his legs are not holding much mass anymore. It's great that you're focusing on other movements again but I don't think you're thinking about this the right way if you want to look jacked. It seems like you're way too focused on getting a higher 1RM pullup when really if you want to look jacked you should just train more like a person trying to get jacked. More reps and more variety and stop focusing on increasing 1RMs. Increasing your 1RM on the powerlifts obviously didn't help the physique so you really shouldn't train like that for accessory lifts as well if you simply want to build muscle.
    You have an insane amount of knowledge when it comes to powerlifting but you need to go back to your roots and train like you did when you were actually jacked. Quit hyper focusing on increasing the 1RM. Go back to an upper lower split with a heavy emphasis on reps and accessory work for reps. You never trained your 1RM pullup in the past and you still had decent strength just from the accumulation of volume from moderate to higher reps and higher fatigue. Your powerlifting brain is hurting your physique progress.
    Not trying to be too critical, I've been following your channel since the beginning I just don't like seeing you focusing on the wrong thing.

      Focusing a bit on 1RM isn't bad, it just looks like he's overspecializing(again). Add in some higher rep lower weight work and more variety to accommodate on lighter days and he'd be golden but we're only going off the glimpse he showed. Wouldn't doubt that he's overspecializing cuz he's carrying what looks like a lot more fat and less muscle than when he was "jacked", so a lot of that number increase was unlikely mostly lean muscle accrual like most powerlifters like to delude themselves into thinking.
      High reps for the hypertrophy and submaximal reps for the strength that he clearly wants. Variety for the total strength so it's not just getting overly accustomed to movement pattern. (The same thing AlphaDestiny advocates for).

      @@111kino There's really no benefit in maxing out or striving to increase your 1RM when your goal is muscle building. You should of course be striving to get stronger, but in a moderate to higher rep range. Doing so will of course increase your 1RM but that's not the goal of training. You can raise your 1RM without building any muscle but raising your repping strength on a consistent basis is pretty much impossible if you're not gaining muscle.

      @@Soccasteve 1RMing frequently like he's doing is pretty stupid, but doing lower rep higher weight days is better for strength development as opposed to grinding out moderate/high reps and sets only in the same period of time. If the goal was only muscle building, which it sounds like it isn't, then higher ranges would definitely just be the no brainer.
      You can definitely raise your repping numbers on a consistent basis without gaining muscle if you're just refining the movement pattern, especially if you only utilize a fast tempo as that allows for a lot slower burnout rate. It's the same issue as overspecializing in general, at some point there isn't any more gains to squeeze out and you're just mastering the movement pattern.

    Proof high frequency isn't THE best for hypertrophy BUT with the right programming THE best for strength.

    along with Jeff Nippard since he already commented and stated his case, Trystan Lee would be another person I would absolutely consider jacked and under 170. Derek Simnett would be another one for sure.
