I have a lot of experience with 4X4 vehicles in these types of conditions and can tell you it's tough. The ice gets under the tires and builds up under the vehicle and can stop progress very quickly or even bend and break things. The ice buildup at the exits of deep holes can even high center pretty high trucks. Add the unseen ruts and rocks and you can just imagine how hard it can be to get trough. I was impressed the Honda's performance in these conditions. Without a doubt the best testing of a SXS I've seen yet. It is a great detailed review. Keep up the great work. I'm sure a lot of Canadians enjoyed this considering the terrible weather we had for the end of hunting season in Atlantic Canada anyway.
Buy once, cry once. From then on, just make sure your maintenance is done when it’s supposed to be done and you have yourself a machine with absolutely LEGENDARY reliability and toughness. Great video!
Bought my 18' 1000-5 Deluxe nearly a year ago now, and I love it. It absolutely is the jack of all trades machine. It can play just as hard as it can work, and those back seats are perfect for kids or the occasional/infrequent passenger. I considered the X4, but the lack of dump bed was a con for me personally, and that's why I went with the Pioneer. Power and control is great, although I did find the gas pedal to be uncomfortable. Easy fix with a ThrottleMaxx pedal. I have an aluminum roof, Honda fabric mid-panel, 2 piece windshield, and Honda fabric door panels on mine, and it's definitely not a well closed in cab, but I find it comfortable to ride in the cold like that. Still have airflow, and the heat from the engine below will keep you warm. IMO, the Pioneer 1000-5 isn't for everyone, but it has it's purpose if it fits your lifestyle. For me and my family, it works great. Not to mention I'll probably buy a Talon in the next 2-3 years so I'll have the best of both worlds. :D
You know I love Toyota and Honda...I know Toyota does not make bikes and ATVs...Honda does and they are extremely well made. I know this from my 250 big red trike with reverse. Honda has always made a great product and you pay more for quality. This video you made was absolutely excellent and showed the UTV used in real world conditions.
Great thorough review, the Hydro Line was brutal. Honda earned it's path through it. I'm a big fan of the option to carry 2 other people in a pinch. That dead pedal is useless. Great review, look forward to seeing what you do with the Pioneer next!
Great Review! I live in Southern Ontario as well, I am very impressed how well the I-4WD did on the Ice and Mud on the Hydro line, those are very taxing conditions on any machine.
I need one of these to pull my glam ice-fishing house out on the lake & sometimes through snow that’s about 2 to 3 feet deep so this video came in handy. Thank you!!
FANTASTIC review, finally a channel that points out the flaws as well as the good points. I gave up watching dirt trax because they come across as shills! This will be my no 1 ATV channel, and it should be everyone else’s. Keep up the Honest reviews. Thank you, thank you, thank you
That was awesome. Nice. I don't care what everyone says. All these machines know matter what brand you get. They all have a certain thing that they shine at. You can bring the whole family in that Honda. Really nice.
Honda's naturally run really cold which is good for reliability in the summer but yes in the winter you will end up with side effects like the transmission shifting really slow or longer startup time or for dirt bikes the clutch not working properly its nothing against honda it is just something i have noticed with every honda i have ever owed, rode or worked on (pioneer 1000, pioneer 500, 2017 rancher, 2008 rincon, 2006 Rubicon, 2002 cr 250, 1996 xr250)
You keep saying four people. I have put three in the front on many occasions. It is fairly spacious, even with three adults. They don’t call it a Honda 5 because it holds four people. Great review.
I really wanted to buy the XP crew. I like my local dealer and salesman. I also like many of the XP options. The power of the XP is also awesome. The stock suspension is very supple. However, the XP throttle was too sensitive. The turning circle and ground clearance in the woods is horrible. The seat was way too high and upright for us (short people) and my wife couldn’t reach the floor. I was offered the 2021 XP crew premium for 17k. I tried out the Pioneer 1000-5 LE and happily paid full price. It was that much better for us. The quality of materials also felt better. I will say the lower models had a harsh ride. If you must have permanent seating for 4 plus people or an enclosed cab, then of course the Honda is a pass. Otherwise... no contest!
i have the 2018 teryx 2 and im more than happy, couldn't justify the price of the Honda, Ive run cvt transmissions for 11 years and wouldn't change back!!
McSlama Jama well I guess I’ll be the second to say I love CVT trannys. Over 4000 miles on my Polaris sportsman and haven’t changed a belt yet. And it’s a 2017 model 570. And it’s running a stage 3 tune and 27 inch Zillas. Also on my prowler 700 side by side it had 2100 miles when I sold it never once changed a belt on it either. Belts are great if you break them in properly and know when to use high or low.
Pick ur foot up for the raised dead pedal, u’ll find it’s super comfy after anhour or so of riding and it has a way of.... conserving energy, just naturally locks u in without really pushing on it. U’ll Last longer on the trail
I hope you keep producing these over the winter! I basically got my Teryx 4 LE (which I love) and a set of tracks for the same price as one of these. Honda's a great but Kawi builds a great machine as well.
I'm putting them on this week, for the first time. I'm in Belleville, ON, and we don't have too much snow yet but I will find some and give it a good test soon! Feel free to check out my channel, the videos are coming!
@ 22:55...NVH??? What's that? That high speed run up to and over 60mph on a snow covered road was a bit crazy....one twitch in the steering wheel and you would have been eating pine trees.
Really enjoying my '18 1000-5. Mine is the standard model without Intelligent 4wd. I like the option to manually lock the front, but all the LE owners swear by the I4wd.
I have a 2016 3 passenger and its a darn good machine. I have the front locker. Has been bullet proof. Top speed is 67 mph. The Yamaha and Kawasaki are not 1000cc . That would change the price. Right.
The deluxe trim falls in the same price category as the Kawasaki and Yamaha and the Honda still offers more. Test drove the Kawasaki today, it was a real pig.
Having over 2000 miles on my Honda 1000 here in Alaska I can honestly say it’s been great. Hauled entire moose and caribou with zero issues. Your hill test was lame. Hills I’m use too are a mile long and steep enough to be for goats only. Fully loaded it creeps down the steep hills without using brakes. The dead peddle is in a great position when descending steep hills and crossing deep water
I can't find a good review with steep muddy hills. Just joy riders hill climbing that don't even compare to our ranch here in central WV. Thanks for your comment very helpful. Our kubota rtv 900x does great untill to much mud. Then back to our atvs to reach thar ridge. Good review of honda. Thanks
Your reviews are awesome man, I still remember when you reviewed that 4Runner in that trail, it was awesome. How about a review from John Deere’s UTVs? Would love to see what you think of the XUV835M or R
100+km/h is impressive, I don't often break 60k but I'd rather cruise at 60% throttle than 80% like on 700's and I need the power anyway. 5 seats is an interesting functionality and the machine looks awesome with the full cage but I'm not so sure it's work the extra $6k vs the 3-seater (as of Aug '22)
I have one too and I love it for working with its dct tranny but for sport driving I got a xp1000 after going on a Polaris test ride. Lots of Rzr haters but I was impressed with its whole package and it hasn't broke yet 2 years
Jeremy Rhodes Agreed. Putting the brakes on one wheel to put all power to the other wheel is robbing from Peter to pay Paul. All you get is 3 wheel drive. 4wd means 4 wheels, all pulling, all with power ...
What’s the point of a bill start assist in an automatic vehicle? Just brake with your left foot! I’m sure they’ll sell those tailgate fence thingies so you can have the seats up at some bed space on the tailgate. The seats aren’t a compromise at all! You get seats AND a bed for crying out loud!
Id like to see you guys put the Honda pioneer on them car rollers like the fast lane car did with the Polaris rzr turbo s 4 seater. To see how well this i4wd system actually works.
The i4WD works great in most circumstances, until you try rock crawling with it. That's when you realize how much you hate it. My Pioneer seemingly made easy work of places that my Talon literally would not go.
Loved the video, thanks. Please send me info on your helmet, like it a lot!! It seems you machine is stock at the LE version. What do you plan to add to it? Thanks again.
Is the DCT better than the CVT? The CVT seems light years easier to fix out on the trail, all I need to do is carry an extra belt and some simple tools. Is the DCT bulletproof enough not to worry?
I've owned both systems and can say with certainty that the "intelligent" front locker is in no way "as good" as the front mechanical locker no matter what Honda says. I appreciate that you touched on it a little bit, but come on, surely you know this.
This time of year is so harsh on the chassis. Its cold enough to half-freeze the waterholes and not cold enough to freeze them solid. Smashing through the ice built-up holes gets a little hard on the bike. iv'e seen ice pop ball joints, bend rims, shear valve stems off, rip boots etc..
I have a lot of experience with 4X4 vehicles in these types of conditions and can tell you it's tough. Best UTV reviewer on youtube hands down.
I strongly agree

Awesome review. I’d buy a Honda for ultimate reliability. Amazingly engineered.
Expensive , but most certainly the most reliable machine
Nik Kastellorizios the 1000s? Not hardly. We hand recall after recall on the junky dct
Randy Savage: no the Yamahas aren’t even close to the Honda’s
They r one of the cheapest for what your getting. Versus the yammie or Polaris.
Wasn’t even a hill wth
@@off-roadnpew2183 hahahaha that's hilarious. Sounds like a Polaris guy too me!
You dont cut out when you have to back up and run again! Real results!!
Just got my 2024 last month.. I’m super happy with it. Delivered on everything honda said it would.
Also forgot to mention, I agree with the other guy, keep doing sxs reviews during the winter👍
Great thorough review, the Hydro Line was brutal. Honda earned it's path through it. I'm a big fan of the option to carry 2 other people in a pinch. That dead pedal is useless. Great review, look forward to seeing what you do with the Pioneer next!
Dude awesome video TFL is just so much better with your content glad you are on the team can't wait to see what you are gonna do with Big Green
Easily worth the extra expense. Resale value alone makes it worth the extra plus of course the known reliability!
Very impressed with how it did in the snow.
I dont ever need to watch the video, because I know it's going to be the best. Hands down.
Thank you!!
I love taking my family of four to those places to drive like that
FANTASTIC review, finally a channel that points out the flaws as well as the good points. I gave up watching dirt trax because they come across as shills! This will be my no 1 ATV channel, and it should be everyone else’s.

They’re the same way for snowmobile reviews, too.
That was awesome. Nice. I don't care what everyone says. All these machines know matter what brand you get. They all have a certain thing that they shine at. You can bring the whole family in that Honda. Really nice.
Best review of the Pioneer yet!
That top speed run took balls man!
I'd pay the extra for the added reliability and the fact that it doesn't have a cvt transmission
Same here
your right. i have the 2016 with locker. nice machine! never lets me down!
I'd say Honda's rep for reliability isn't as solid as it used to be.
And that DCT has had issues for a couple years now.
My pioneer with its dct is great for working, snow plowing for me. My xp1000 with cvt I like better for sport driving
Sold my mini truck today saving up to get one of these for the homestead and to have fun!
Your doing better reviews then the rest of TFL without a doubt. These are real world test with actual results.
You keep saying four people. I have put three in the front on many occasions. It is fairly spacious, even with three adults. They don’t call it a Honda 5 because it holds four people. Great review.
65 is good, means one can cruse at 50 without reving it to the moon
Yes I agree; sure it’s not the fastest, but respectable at least.
Yamaha x4 is the one I've been looking at buying. Good review.
We could use this at our off grid home. Such a great machine. Well done Honda
The only SxS I personally like in the SxS segment tbh. Honda provides a excellent work machine with touch of play, topped with the Honda Quality 👌
Great video . I watched and compared five different units , sold me on the Honda .
afc 1911 what’s the other 5 units
One thing about it you've got nerve I would not go 63 miles an hour on snow and ice in a side-by-side
I really wanted to buy the XP crew. I like my local dealer and salesman. I also like many of the XP options. The power of the XP is also awesome. The stock suspension is very supple. i have the 2018 teryx 2 and im more than happy, couldn't justify the price of the Honda, Ive run cvt transmissions for 11 years and wouldn't change back!!
nfs nfs you’re the only one I’ve ever heard say that about a cvt. The gears alone will make me get a Honda. Not the 1000 though too high.
up here its 95% cvt's. Bombadier is quite popular, followed by polaris., but hands down for the price Teryx!!
McSlama Jama well I guess I’ll be the second to say I love CVT trannys. Over 4000 miles on my Polaris sportsman and haven’t changed a belt yet. And it’s a 2017 model 570. Belts are great if you break them in properly and know when to use high or low.
McSlama Jama by the way and I ride in the hills of WV and locally here CVTs are the most common tranny choice.

Own lots of Honda’s from their cars x 3, ATV’s x 2, generators, water pump you CAN’T beat the quality 😁🇨🇦
I hope you keep producing these over the winter! I basically got my Teryx 4 LE (which I love) and a set of tracks for the same price as one of these. Honda's a great but Kawi builds a great machine as well.
AdvOutdoors I’m looking at possibly get Teryx 4, and I am in Canada. How well do the tracks work for you in the snow?
I'm putting them on this week, for the first time. I'm in Belleville, ON, and we don't have too much snow yet but I will find some and give it a good test soon! Feel free to check out my channel, the videos are coming!
Also, I'm from Sudbury originally and they get a lot more snow. I'm there fairly often and will bring the Teryx there for a run as well.
I use to live in Belleville over 8 years ago. I’m near Ottawa now.
I will check out your channel.
@@gregh2632 Awesome! I rode in Larose Forest with my brother, who lives in Ottawa , just a couple of months ago.
You showed the machines capabilities very well!!
5 in the morning rn Jesus I like this guys reviews though
Now that is a test drive . Best one I’ve seen
Dude, I dig that helmet! Nice review on the Pioneer!
@ 22:55...NVH??? What's that? That high speed run up to and over 60mph on a snow covered road was a bit crazy....one twitch in the steering wheel and you would have been eating pine trees.

Great review. Subscribed. Thanks for taking this machine through all the paces like no one else does. Much appreciated.
Really enjoying my '18 1000-5. Mine is the standard model without Intelligent 4wd. I like the option to manually lock the front, but all the LE owners swear by the I4wd.
badbowtie71 lol cuz they stupid. I bought skid plates and eps for my base 2018 pioneer 3 seat. It blows the le out of the water and was cbeaper.
What costs more lockers or smart? I’d take lockers you want this simple not like a truck with tons of systems to go wrong.
Gsfbffx Pdhhdf sure it does
So. The base model has front and rear lockers that are manual ?
Those who swear by the i4WD haven't taken them into any moderately aggressive rock crawling.
65mph isnt bad for that unit and conditions
With the dct the throttle input is awesome. As soon as you hit it it goes unlike a belt driven side by side.
Honda Talon was just announced today
Having over 2000 miles on my Honda 1000 here in Alaska I can honestly say it’s been great. Hauled entire moose and caribou with zero issues.

Thanks for the video. You very clearly demonstrated how compromised the back seats are.
i have one of these, honda got everything right i would highly rec. this
I have one too and I love it for working with its dct tranny but for sport driving I got a xp1000 after going on a Polaris test ride. Lots of Rzr haters but I was impressed with its whole package and it hasn't broke yet 2 years
Very good review
Hell yeah! That looks like fun! Nice review.
Why didn't Honda just use a front selectable locker?? It already has a rear one!!
I agree... For that kind of coin it should have one.
Jeremy Rhodes
Agreed.
Putting the brakes on one wheel to put all power to the other wheel is robbing from Peter to pay Paul.
All you get is 3 wheel drive.
4wd means 4 wheels, all pulling, all with power ...
Just got one today in red
Great review and detailed. Would have liked to view this when I bought my 2016 Nice job!
Cool video, now I want one.
Also send Andre to Canada.
27'' tires? That's the same as my jeep tj was factory 215x75x15.
my little grandson will fit back there!😊
that's why i got mine instead of the talon.room for all the grandkids.
Let the Honda warm up and it's flawless!
My husband just won one of these at a raffle 😍
I'll give you 13 for it.
Andrew Johnson 13? Thousand? We just sold it
Yes..what did you get for it if you don't mind me asking?
What’s the point of a bill start assist in an automatic vehicle? Just brake with your left foot!
I’m sure they’ll sell those tailgate fence thingies so you can have the seats up at some bed space on the tailgate.
The seats aren’t a compromise at all! You get seats AND a bed for crying out loud!

If you have a deep foot well in the rear it will always be full of water and ice and beer and blood and guts etc.
You can always have it be sort of a grate
Loved the video, thanks. Please send me info on your helmet, like it a lot!! It seems you machine is stock at the LE version. What do you plan to add to it? Thanks again.
What a crear Review. Crear Job Great Side by Side. Love it.
Is the DCT better than the CVT? The CVT seems light years easier to fix out on the trail, all I need to do is carry an extra belt and some simple tools. Is the DCT bulletproof enough not to worry?
nice review. enjoyed it. lots of information
It's worth the extra money not to have to deal with a CVT.
It's nice to get Canadien pricing. Thanks.
The pioneer 1000 is electronically governed at 67 miles per hour
65 mph is fast enough. I would never consider buying one at that price, outrages. I don't care how reliable it is.
Lol u are very poor then. Stick to polaris 570 and end up spending 10k more to fix it. U idiot
Gsfbffx Pdhhdf there you are again you little brat
Awesome review!
You make a great reviews,
Need to lay off the beans son. Aint gonna fit in the snowsuit your momma bought ya next year
I get that you want to be safe and all, but sometimes, you just gotta send it! HaHa
Great review. Have you done one on the Mahindra Retriever 1000 gas? If not would you? thx
Great review. PS give a link to your helmet.
I've owned both systems and can say with certainty that the "intelligent" front locker is in no way "as good" as the front mechanical locker no matter what Honda says. I appreciate that you touched on it a little bit, but come on, surely you know this.
I a, thinking on one for the next bike.. time to replace my 20 year old rincon with 10000k.
You guys are the best
What kind helmet is that bro . Awesome video
BVS2
Look like it would be very TOP HEAVY, especially with four passengers on that short wheelbase. Maybe susceptible to ROLLOVER at higher speeds??
Waiting for your review of the Teryx s model.
Steve test a Sherp! Let me know what you think.
are there any differences between the 2017 thru 2020 models?
I was really liking the features of this pioneer until I heard it doesn’t have a front locking diff.
jabroni6199 not all of the 1000 pioneers have the I4wd. It’s only on the LE. Go with the model down and you can get the full front diff lock
Awesome video! Where can I get those gmc gloves? I live gmc!
I had a 2014 teryx and it rode like shit... Will this handle whoops at 60 mph?
nothing with 10 inches of travel will.not what it's built for.it's a utility task vehicle not a sport sxs.you need the talon.
An off subject question......what type of helmet are you wearing
I'm looking through the comments for the same thing lol
ski-doo bv2s helmet is what I found. Nearly $600 though.
Want one, but with a heated and ac cab.
Dump bed/ rear passenger eject.
Nice Review
