I went with the Pioneer 520, for work around the farm, but I also like the compact width for narrow trail use. Mostly for chores and a little fun as well
This was exactly what I was looking for to compare these 2 different machines from Honda, as Im just starting my quest to find the right side by side. I was blown away when I saw your subscriber count, the video quality and presentation is that of a much larger channel. You will grow quickly with content like this!
Hi there, Thank you so much for the kind words. I am really excited to start this new channel and your encouragement means a lot. Glad you liked the video.
On my 2020 Talon X4 Live Valve, I put on 32 x 10's all around on 7" bead lock RACELINE wheels, like you have on the Pioneer. Love them and there's only a tiny bit of rubbin when you have full lock turn and the suspension bottomed out up front on one wheel. I have only one spare and it'll fit any corner. You need to add 1-1/2" wheel spacers to the rear axle because of the track difference. Usually run tire pressures at 8 or 9 p.s.i. That's it and I love it.
I went wiht the Pioneer because I have 4 grandkids but I can almost keep up with the RZRs except in spots where head clearance is a problem like a tree hanging over the trail. When it comes to hillclimbs this old man just sets and watches
Just traded my pioneer 1000 on a Talon. Hope I made the right choice. One thing I need is the capability to plow snow with the talon. The dealer said I can use the same KFI 72” plow with the talon. Hope it works as well. Thanks for the video. Enjoyed seeing the comparison.
For trails and riding I think you’ll really appreciate the difference. I never plowed with mine as I use a small tractor for work but that is one area I might give the nod to pioneer due to the seat position, visibility while plowing etc.
One thing you should consider is the Talon has a "live" rear axle whereas the Pioneer has the "turf" mode so you can turn with ease and not have the wheel hopping and chirping on dry pavement. This may or may not be a good thing in snow when plowing.
I was pleasantly surprised with my folks pioneer 700 . I ended up selling my old Honda quad and buying their pioneer. It’s fully enclosed with heat. Hard doors and glass windows . 3 negative points are Honda could do a better job sealing the cab and the cab is noisy and can get very warm .I added heat shielding and sound dampening under the seat and engine bay which helped a lot. My neighbour has the 1000 and has similar complaints.
Roof has all kinds of real estate for storage. Turf mode in the talon is probably a weak link. The solid spool design is far superior in strength. The differentials on these machines are fairly small. Also not sure but if the transmission is the trans axle like a Polaris rzr or front wheel drive car then it gets weird trying to fit those added locking mechanics in there.
Keep trying to convince my sister to trade our 2 quads in for a pioneer that 5 seater is amazing especially since there's 4 of us always riding and camping.. but nooo she only cares about "coolness" so she wants a 2 seater rzr which is more expensive than the pioneer with 3 less seats and about a foot long
@peytonhorn2833 holy.. but I know some of the RZRs people refer to are just the basic low models with the 700 or 800 I think? I never liked Polaris so I don't follow their product line.. I just know dollar for dollar a 1000-5 pioneer is a good all rounder. You get a utility bed or seats or hell half a bed half a seat haha who wouldn't want that!? Thats gonna be my next purchase I don't give a F 😂😂
@@gearandtread Yeah I think so too. That’s the Talons Down fall. The lack of power. A better GPS set up would be nice but I can deal with that. It’s that lack of power that drives me nuts on my 2019 Honda Talon. Honda calls me all the time about trading mine in. I just tell they why, until yall upgrade the motor what’s the point. It still has no power. Everything else is still the same.
@@dmcmanus3 It would easily solve the lack of power issues with the Talon. It would also keep the reliability up that Honda is known for because the lack of a turbo. I have a 2019 Talon 1000R. I bought it new in 2020 for $17k. Sense then I have installed a HCR 72” long travel suspension. Krash Offroad Custom cage, full Shock Therapy spring, Alba Racing Crusher Wheels, 33” System3 RT 320 tires. Next I’m installing the full Hess internals and HMF exhaust with X pipe. Even with all these mods I’m under $25k. Honda will have to do something pretty amazing to the next Gen Talon besides a dash relocation upgrade to make me get ride of my 2019 Talon. That or I will straight up switch brands. Can Am has a DCT now!!! And it has the power to boot.
So i can get a pioneer 1000-3 For cheap but they have a talon 1000x with live valve when we ride we never really go over 60 so im leaning towards the pioneer but they look like they would be tippy on hills have you ever drove up really steep hills ? We ride old coal mine hills that are grown over. Just want something my gf will feel safe in my honda rancher has done great back there.
I’ve climbed everything I’ve come across but in the Midwest it’s not like we have mountains. When I added the lift it felt more tippy but never had any issues and the thing climbed like a goat.
Love Hondas always drove hondas but had more problems with the the Honda tranny then with the belt driven sxs i drive now. Sold Honda tranny is sweet but way to fickle
Pioneer 1000-5 here. My daughter’s wheelchair fits perfectly in the bed and she loved to ride.
That is awesome! Have fun on the trails!

Hi there,
Thank you so much for the kind words. I am really excited to start this new channel and your encouragement means a lot. Glad you liked the video.
I really wanted a talon but cause I have big property and will probably need to do work around I got the pioneer 1000-5 trail. Thanks for the video.
The trail is a great machine! I really liked riding that model in TN.
I got my 2024 pioneer this may and I couldn’t be more happy with my choice.
Nice!
Does the talon 0:43 shift like the pioneer? The pioneer is not very kind when it shifts and very very loud.
@@kevinc9416 they both shift similar. The talon does shift smoother than my 19 pioneer. I think they improved the shifting and points.

Yee yee let get growing!!! Makes me want to get out and ride again! They are both awesome but i would definitely go w the Tallon!
We are launching a brand new channel, thanks for watching and appreciate subscribing!
Went for a talon, ended up with a 1000-6. My little kids couldn't see out the back of the talon.
I also used a ttc lift and it been great.
I think the 1000-6 with a TTC and shocks would be a beast of a Pioneer!
Great comparison. Just got a 700-4 and really liking it!
Thanks! Please subscribe so we can grow
I went with Honda for the gear system vs CVT
I went wiht the Pioneer because I have 4 grandkids but I can almost keep up with the RZRs except in spots where head clearance is a problem like a tree hanging over the trail. When it comes to hillclimbs this old man just sets and watches
As long as you are having fun that's all that matters!
Great job on the video, good luck!!!
Thanks, it’s exciting to start something new. Appreciate the comment!

@@sferg9582 I really miss the turf mode, I still with the Talon had that. Even for forest and gravel I'd run turf mode.
The Talon 🤌
Thanks for a really good thorough video. I Think this is the first time I have read every comment. LOL.
Thanks, more content to come. We have been recording all summer and can't wait to upload more new videos.

It's true, but riding in other machines I'm learning heat is a common theme in all of them
What wheel tire combo on the 1000-5? Great video.
Thanks so much! The Pioneer is rocking Raceline A95 wheels, tires on both are BFG KM3 30"
i have both
Wasnt tough for me. The pioneer will carry more beers. 😂
There is that ha ha
I have some vids riding my 21 pioneer 1000-5. Love the machine,, eyeballing the Talon for a 2nd machine
Always good to add one more to the stable :-)
Hi brother. Made it over from the late night test.
Thanks man!
Pioneer for work and play
Tough to beat for sure, there are things I miss about the pioneer. I still think its arguably the best do all machine
Hi
Thanks for the video. I noticed the letters on your transmission panel are highlighted. Is that an enhancement you did?
It was a panel I bought
Great video how’s turning radius on talon
It’s ok, being a 4 seater it can be a little tricky on super tight trails.
I’d go with the new Pioneer 6 seater! Rides like a Cadillac pickup and has no problem getting down and dirty!! 😂
I did really like the 1000-6, got to ride in in Montana and if I was buying a Pioneer that just might be the one.

Maybe I will get a roof rack someday, I know we have some overland trips planned for next year but not sure I'll need that much space just yet.
what are the tires on the talon ?
BFG KM3, We go over the latest build in this video, as well as ruclips.net/video/_9l1arlFyb8/видео.htmlsi=-ST5n9C0u90Rymbv
Thank you! Subbed
Thanks for the sub!
Did the front seats in the pioneer come as a factory stock seats
It's a bench stock, I added the buckets in the Pioneer. I talked about that a little in the video
What size tire and suspension u running on the pioneer
30x10r15 BFG KM3, Elka Stage 4 shocks all around on a Texas Tough Customs 3" Lift. Very capable machine!
How did u stop the rain coming in on your leg with the Honda doors
The big gaps definitely let in water. I just ordered a kit from a maker out of Alaska, he makes a seal kit. Hoping it helps.

Where I’m at, the pioneer is 10k more than a rzr 🤦♂️ I want the pioneer

Any way you can hit the trails is a win but it's tough to argue with the versatility of the Pioneers, I kinda miss mine for those reasons
I have a 1000-3 but thinking about going to the talon , would love to see a drag race see how difference there is
The Talon is a little quicker but neither are known for their speed in class.
Honda needs to put the CBR 1000 RR motor in the Talon. 215 HP normal aspirated.
That would crush the market

Hoping I have good luck with this one like I did my pioneer. Obviously you can have issues with anything but Im optimistic
one of the happiest days of my life was the day my ins. wrote off my pioneer.what a steaming pile of shit that thing was.
Thats too bad, I had great luck with mine and the new owner says it’s still going strong.
Pioneer looks dumb
