The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

They are singing LIVE to a backing track. On the backing track they even cut out the lead guitar solo. The vocals are all live. I can't say enough how Creedence influenced my life as a 12 year old. When Bad Moon Rising came over the waves on my AM radio I could see a video in my head that was magic. Every year my parents took us on vacation in PC Florida a new Creedence song would come out. No group ever came close in my heart to Creedence. Their magic engulfed me for years. I so wish my children could experience how wonderful life was in the late 60's and early 70's. I'm 65 now and still love hearing a good Creedence song.

I wasn't born until 1989, but you are absolutely right that this was a special time for music. I really wish I got to live through it and experience it while it was happening. There are always good times to be had in every era, and I had a great childhood in the 90's. There was and still is tons of great music, you just have to search a little harder to find it than you did back then I think since it sure isn't being played on mainstream radio.

It was a global monster hit. As a school kid circa 1970 in Malaysia, you could hear this tune daily on the radio. Local school bands would be rehearsing this song frequently. Every teenager who owned an acoustic guitar would be playing this song, even in rural areas. So popular was this song that it used to be played at school dances all the way into around 1972. Thank you ike and tina turner. Thank you CCR. Simply one of the best tunes from the 1960s.

Cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis
Pumped a lot of 'pane down in New Orleans

I saw him in 2021 in the little town I grew up in (smoking herb and jamming to CCR). It was surreal and they were AWESOME (it's John and his sons now, continuing the family legacy of CCR).

I'm obsessed with this performance. I love John's playing, singing, headbobbing. All of it.

“I wrote the song about a mythical riverboat, cruising on a mythical river, in a mythical time,” Fogerty concluded in 2018. “Perhaps the setting was ‘back in time’ on the Mississippi River. It was obviously a metaphor about leaving painful, stressful things behind for a more tranquil and meaningful life.”
    just beautiful.

I was at An Khe in March 1969 when this song got serious airplay on AFVN. We had loud speakers strung all up and down the green line. It was kind of cool to hear “rolling, rolling, rolling down the river” as I walked along the dirt road.
