After the 70’s, did it feel like the 70’s were over? I think often of what it would be like growing up in my parents time and how the music surrounding me would affect the experience over what little experience I experienced now in 2024. I woke up thinking of this song today because I watched a Vietnam movie the other day and only thought about how even this song must’ve set such a vibe - locally and internationally.
As someone half your age I feel like the 2010’s blended into the 2020’s mainly because there’s no soul in our music or society anymore.
This is a question I know I could easily ask my parents, but I think I would get more insight from a stranger’s point of view.

'Bout your plans to make me blue
With some other guy that you knew before
Between the two of us guys
You know I loved you more
It took me by surprise I must say
    When I found out yesterday
Ooo I heard it through the grapevine
Not much longer would you be mine
Ooo I heard it through the grapevine
And I'm just about to lose my mind
    Honey, honey yeah
You know that a man ain't supposed to cry
But these tears I can't hold inside
Losin' you would end my life you see
'Cause you mean that much to me
You could have told me yourself
    That you found someone else
Instead I heard it through the grapevine

Really a shame that this band couldn’t work out their differences. I’d loved to have seen them stay together like ACDC, Aerosmith, the Stones, Fleetwood Mac, and other bands with more longevity. I wouldn’t have minded seeing them in concert. Even if Tom Fogerty wouldn’t have been with them. They were a simply incredible band. They’re one of very few bands I’d actually pay $$ to see perform in concert.

At 6 years old, I had to be brave enough to go to a security officer on my own and tell them my dad's too drunk and I don't want to drive with him. He was arrested and a neighbor drove over an hour at Midnight to pick me up. That same man was a crackhead and an alcoholic and in and out of my life more times than I can count and a lot of those times were fucked up.

'Bout your plans to make me blue
With some other guy that you knew before
Between the two of us guys
You know I loved you more
It took me by surprise I must say
    When I found out yesterday
Ooo I heard it through the grapevine
Not much longer would you be mine
Ooo I heard it through the grapevine
And I'm just about to lose my mind
    Honey, honey yeah
You know that a man ain't supposed to cry
But these tears I can't hold inside
Losin' you would end my life you see
'Cause you mean that much to me
You could have told me yourself
    That you found someone else
Instead, I heard it through the grapevine
Not much longer would you be mine
Ooo I heard it through the grapevine
And I'm just about to lose my mind
    Honey, honey yeah

Non non none from what you hear
    I can't help being confused
If it's true won't tell me here
