The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

These guys just might be the most consistent band of all time. This was live and it sounds almost the same as the studio version. Extremely gifted musicians.
Uh I think it is the studio version. They're playing over it.
John’s vocals are live but every thing else is from the studio track
Absolutely!!! It show that not only were they masterful songwriters (John in particular), but consummate musicians as well to be able to perform a perfect live rendition such as this!!! They were truly something else!!!
Sorry to break it to you, but only the vocals are live. The music is the album track being played over
they were around 4 years
Fogerty perfected that swamp southern sound. The irony is that the band was from the bay area.
He is a big delta blues fan. So he wrote songs about the South. Didn't even visit there until 80's.
I always thought he was from Baton Rouge LA. He has a great southern voice.
Southern is more a way of thinking than where you're from friend. Heck, Kid Rock is from Michigan, but he considers himself southern. And this is coming from a Louisianian.
NO PEOPLE? WHY YOU DON'T HEAR OR UNDERSTAND!! THAT IS PURE ,ROCK N ROLL?! GOD BLESS THEM!! ONLY MUSIC WHAT IS GOOD ON THIS WORLD, AND FANTASTIC SPIRIT!! HELLO FROM CROATIA, OPATIJA TOWN?? STILL YOU DON'T GET IT!??
yep El Cerrito
One of the best bands ever.
For sure !!
Eh - not in the same league as: “The Beatles” or “The Beach Boys”. CCR is definitely an example of a second-tier rock band.
@@fshoaps CCR>The beach Boys
@@matiasrivasgonzalez9006 No way.
@@fshoaps Brian Wilson is a genius.. but CCR is in the same league. Sure, they weren’t very experimental.. but Fogerty could write a good song just as well as Wilson and John/Paul.
I married in 1970 and Creedence was the music of our early marriage, our honeymoon music, we were married for 42 years until my wife passed. I still love Creedence and Fogerty's solo music over the years.
nice story thanks
Great music to have those memories to. I remember dancing as a young teen at a wedding reception to a band playing 'Green River', and before that my grade school had 'Willy and the Poor Boys' album cover as book covers.
Beautiful story 🌹 Thank you for sharing!
God Bless your wife's soul and Lord please be with this family in their time of greif and sorrow . I asked in your Glorious Name Jesus Amen 👼🙏 Donald Woodall
when you you have a goodone its hard to let go but if you believe in JESUS then you will see her again
This is absolute GOLD. What a gifted band!
EVERY SONG AN ICONIC ANTHEM !!
What a gifted singer!
CCR = Pure Americana!!! And John Fogerty is an ABSOLUTE GENIUS SONGWRITER!!!
vietnam loved em also
Yes indeed.
One of the best voices of rock and the best drum’s sound ever! CCR really rocks!
They sure tear it up on Fortunate Son, don't they? They play it like they mean it!
Throw in those pure base lines and beautiful clean guitar licks too! Most recognizable bands in history! Pure magic
That smile from Doug Clifford in the beginning :)
And how about those groovy striped pants at the end, gotta love the 60s
@@mikegriffin415 groovy pants, gotta love it
John looks like the kid from the Shining.
I was born in 1968 I started listening to music when I was 12 in 1980 this is what I started listening to back then I'm 55 years old now and still listening to it I will listen to it till the day the lord takes me out of this world
Yet another Fogerty penned hit single. He had a run of 20 hits or so in a 3 year period that basically made a greatest hits package! It was an incredible run of songwriting genius. And they did great covers as well that they made their own like Suzy Q and Good Golly Miss Molly.
One of the best groups of all time! CCR Ruled the early Seventies! 😊
Cotton Fields was another great cover.
John had such a unique voice. So throaty and guttural yet smooth as butter.
i love it. i have also grown to appreciate janis joplin for the same reason. there is a richness to that kind of sound.
Their music was part of the soundtrack of my youth. One of the greatest rock bands ever. True Hall of Famers!
Music that transcends time and places. I’m a 30 years old Italian guy, my dad had all their LPs and I’ve grown up listening to those tunes. Went to the US two years ago, playing CCR endlessly while riding...that’s so good.
And you are an Italian babe!!!
CCR rules!
grande Ste, anch mé
my body is a machine that turns alcohol into anti italian rants (i am croatian)
Italian food is a joke. Good job selling that garbage on the bay!
Something so special about the music from these eras. Simple, effective, catchy, and no fluff and fancy effects. Just good music.
Two days after this performance, I was inducted(19 year old draftee) into the U.S. Army...and spent my entire time in Germany; one of the lucky ones in that era.
Lucky you 👍🥃
Sorry about asking, but I didn't know American army was in Germany at the time. Was it late 1969?
@@victorhugobarcelos1523 Still a huge presence in West Germany because of the 'Warsaw Pact' armies in East Germany. I was stationed at Gelnhausen Kaserne,(Fulda Gap) 2nd Battalion, 6th Artillery, 3rd Armored Division, until discharge in Nov '71. Saw the greatest rock bands of the era in Frankfurt.
@@victorhugobarcelos1523 there have been US forces in Germany since the end of WWII. First as one of the occupying forces and then as part of the NATO forces facing the USSR. They still have some forces stationed there today.
So was my late father, he died around Easter last lear
American always
This music is timeless. Fifty plus years later, the songs sound like they were written yesterday. 100 years from now, same thing. Not many bands you can say that about. Brilliant stuff.
That's why they call 'em the standards. They withstand the test of time.
Couldn't have been yesterday. These guys are all talented.
First riff I ever played on my first guitar. I was 16 then, I’m 19 now. This music is timeless.
Keep on rocking bro
3 years😂
@@mikeluke7417GOT EM
@mikeluke741I thought same, used to reading I'm 67 now 😅7
Now this song is about where to use the bathroom in San Francisco
Bruce Springsteen was correct when he said Creedence Clearwater revival was not the hippest band of the 1960s, just the best
did they go 2 vietnam
@@ShailendraSINGH-jk2ev what sort of loaded question is that ? They were a top-selling band with hit after hit... whether they were in the overseas war or not made no difference to selling records as CCR. Knock it off with your politics.
@@ShailendraSINGH-jk2ev No, Doug Clifford & John Fogerty joined the reserve, but never went to Vietnam.
That voice is a gift!
wow Dennis Quaid could sing pretty good lol!!!
One of best bands ever. Absolutely
My era, I grew up with the sound, and I know lots who didn't. I'm sorry you missed it!
39 yr old brotha here. Remember growing up my household where my mom& aunts all blasted music like CCR & the eagles. Try being a 10 yr old black boy in 92 telling your friends your favorite song is Hotel California 🤣🤣
Love it when Ed Sullivan asks where are they going next and Tom timidly says they are going back home to San Francisco. What a piece of joy would be to watch this show in the '60s!
I seen it in the sixtys
Ed was very kind
It’s Lip synced,btw....for those of you who don’t know any better ?!
@@shawnmarek5981 I thought Sullivan was strict about lip-syncing on his show
@@shawnmarek5981 John Fogerty is singing live, clearly...
Американцы в те годы оставили неизгладимый след в истории, что в музыке что в автомобилестроении что в культуре.
Loved CCR as I grew up. These were great teenage years!!
Great band with so many hits
Johns voice was very unique. Great band. One of my all time favorites.
The world's best band and they didn't need any drugs to stand on stage. John Fogerty's unique voice and power plus catchy melodies and a cohesive band, absolutely fantastic even it was only John singing live here.
WHO IS HERE IN 2022 WANT TO SEE HOW MANY OF US ARE THERE, GENERATION X & BABY BOOMER OR ANYONE ELSE 😎😎😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
FOR ONE MY FRIEND. I 🎸 ONE OF THE OLD TIMERS? NOW THESE GUYS, THEY REALLY KNEW, HIW TO PLAY MUSICAL INSTRUMENT S! NOW THESE DAYS 2024 ? ALL THEY DO, PUSH A KEY, ON THE KEY BOEARD, AND SAY OR SQUEEK SOME SOUND, BUT I JUST CALL THAT, THE BROKE CART WHEEL SOUND! YOU GUS WER EXCELLENT! I STILL DO APPRECIATE YOUR SONGS, THANK YOU, VERY MUCH!!
“Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Creedence Clearwater Revival, his brother, and a couple money hungry assholes!”
John Fogarty is a songwriting and singing genius. Right up there with the best. The whole band is tight too, great musicians and singers! Have always loved this amazing group, which has a sound like no other.
This was the first album I bought way back when, no year needed....I'm old. I even watched them on Midnight Special.
Still remember listening to this song over 50 years ago on the front step with other kids in the neighborhood.
One of my favourite groups from the late 60"s and on. 😀
John Fogerty cannot be equaled in singing - nobody matches his vocal energy, coloring and outrageously infectious, communicative ability!
This is music that transcends generations. When you hear their songs on the radio today they still sound fresh and stand apart from anything else on there, much like it must have been over 50 years ago.
they always stayed humble
The U.S. had no need to be in that war...no matter who won it.
One of the best bands of the era. And this performance is just amazing, sends chills down my spine.
this was a decade before i was born and now in 2021 it still send shivers down my spine. The greatest music lives forever.
Isso sim é música, não essas porcarias que toca nos dias atuais. Época que nunca será esquecida. Amo demais...
The music from this era sounds even better now than when it first came out because the stuff they produce now is so awful
My dad's music .... One of the Best Bands ever
A natural high🪴🪴 great band ❤
CCR will always remain my favorite rock band. John Fogerty made them what they were. He was a genius, a rock god.
I a era of tv lip sync, this is live, no mistakes
Love these guys. My Dad played them all the time growing up, and he just recently gifted me his vinyl collection complete with a few of their albums. Can’t get enough!
The Beatles and Creedence. That is my choice. I'm too old.
Mine too
MY GOOD FRIEND, I'M PROBABLY IN THE SAME BRACKET ASYOU ARE? YOU RECOGNIZE, TRUE / REALL MUSIC. YOU APPRECIATE THE NEW SOND OF MUSIC! UNLIKE NOW THESE DAYS IN 2020 AND SO??
People come from all around to watch the magic boy! He is clearly talking about his self. When I met him in 89 I said please get back togetha he said ccr was gone, I said u are CCR!
The important is......John Fogerty is live now 78 years beautiful voice !!!
I can't think of happier guitar than John Fogerty's sound. It just brings joy!

Studio or live.....the same outstanding 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻music and singing.....best band of all time
Fogerty and the boys are the best. My heart bursting with love to see them so young. What a great time for music!
Down on the Corner, and Jojo still had the same haircut, I hear the song everyday from your truck Barry❤❤❤
When rock music matured. The 1970s were great! Now we have so called music that is made by computers and robot voices.
@Zach Higgins shut up. This has never been “granny music”.
Granny music...Wtf? I make music with stacks of synths on computers and I personally have little taste for anything else that isn’t electronic, but this is not granny music. The Andrew’s Sisters & the Chordettes yes, most certainly yes. As for so-called robot voices and all that hubbub, I get where you are coming from but it is a poor argument.
Great sounding musics & songs majority were all from the 60s + 70s eras. Nowadays very hard to find an equal to such groups as ABBA, CCR, Boney M, Shadows, Ventures, Cliff Richard and so on. Yeah sound too much stiff and lifeless in present days stuff.
New music bad? What a novel and nuanced observation.
Creedence ties the whole world together!
Ed Sullivan.....Sunday evening great shows. Nothing like it today.
One of the founders of southern rock
Замечательно !!! Прошло много лет , а воспринимается очень свежо .
Pure professionals ...gifted, talented..
He such a great vocalist
That rift was the sound of my childhood 🥰
He take you there 😅
One band who sound way better live ❤️
My favorite ccr song
They sound exactly the same live if not better. That’s talent right there
It's lip synched. They are playing along to the original track.
@@reginaldperiwinkle the vocals are live, the musical track is pre-recorded. That was how a lot of acts performed on Sullivan.
@@davidlisowski5245 It's possible that a live lead vocal was done by John, but not the backing vocals. It's not even just that the backing vocals are spot on to the original recording, but they're perfectly mixed and balanced as in the recording, which could not be achieved in a live recording.
@@reginaldperiwinkle yes sorry, when I referred to the vocals I only meant the lead.
@@reginaldperiwinkle The lead vocal is 100% live, but yeah, the backing vocals are taken from the studio recording. Their performance of the chorus part of Down On The Corner at the Oakland concert is way more unbalanced
No autotune no play back, the best

Джон Фогерти один из лучших вокалистов своего времени...и с этим трудно не согласиться...
What great time to be alive back then with music like this in the air.
Best American music ever made...Where J. Fogerty found all these ideas for songs is something that must have come from the heaven's. His spirit, enthusiasm, and relatability to his audience is unmatched. Truly the greatest American music ever written...along with the music of Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys. Fogerty was a mix of country, blues, rock, and swamp music....Amazing even to this day. Being a kid at Summer Camp seeing the counselors listen to this music throw a knock out punch on the Beatles that ended the era with CCR completely in charge.
These guys had such a unique sound. Nobody before or since ever sounded anything like them. Good stuff
Creedence marca uma epoca que nunca vai ser igual!!! Um exemplo para as atuais musicas que vegeta nos ouvidos das pessoas mais experientes
I'm not a huge CCR fan, but... if this beat doesn't get your feet tapping and your head nodding, I don't know what song would.

Always loved CCR! Always loved this song!
Just love it when John Fogerty sings the words “the rooster hits the washboard” !!!!!! So much fun ! He he ! :)
Sem duvida meu amigo, vamos morrer e nao vamos ver outros iguais....
The anti psychedelic back basic production group.
The anti-psychedelic, “back to basics” attitude that rock adopted, wasn’t just CCR, but also The Beatles album, “The White Album”
Это что-то! 46 лет слушала,только что увидела!🥂💖💐 Классика, музыка на все времена!
They sound so good live. Not all bands do.
Was that tongue in cheek, as this is air guitar to the recorded song? But yes, they sounded great live. The Royal Albert Hall full concert on RUclips is fantastic. Dammit, they took it down. There was one well filmed with great sound that is not up now.
I tried to explain this earlier in someone else’s comment, but yes, they sounded GREAT, Live !!

One of the best bands. Ed Sullivan, always wonderful...
Such a feel good song back then. One of my favorite CCR songs.
CCR was such an awesome band, and at the time, pretty much a genre unto themselves. The music style has always seemed odd coming from a band who’s origins are the SF Bay Area, but awesome just the same.
And this why I like corduroy jeans .
This was my favorite CCR song, but I think the Walgreens commercials ruined it for me.
