  • Here is another houseplant ‘how to’ video for all of you plant lovers and new plant moms and plant dads out there. In this video we are going to be repotting my Ficus Elastica Tineke and Burgundy. They are also known as the Rubber Tree or Rubber Plant.
    Ficus Elastica are one of my favourite types of houseplants. They have some of the most beautiful foliage and they are pretty easy to care for even for beginners who has a lot of bright light in their homes.
    I’ll also show you guys how to successfully propagate your Rubber Plant from cuttings. Propagation is a great and cost-effective way to make a new plant to give to your friends or family.
    I hope you enjoy this video.

    I have a rubber tree, that I kept from my mom’s funeral (2007) & this year I decide to take cuttings from it & propagate it. I have 4 rooted & in pots. Looking forward to them growing to the size of the mother plant. They are very pretty houseplants & live a long life.

    I didn’t realize how beautiful that plant is. We have that tree here in my home and has been a tree since I was born. Now its drying and dying.. :( People are cutting it without our permission and making a profit out of it. Now I’m determined to save our tree... its been in our home for like 3 generations thats why its really big.. and its rare in our place no wonder people come to our home just to cut its branches.. I used to play with its leaves and write on it when I was a child... I didn’t really see how beautiful it is until it is slightly dying... but I know there is still hope. Thank you for this video I am very motivated.

    • @mimosveta
      @mimosveta 3 года назад +6

      if it's tree generations old, it's probably dying due to old age. if you want to save it, you should probably take cuttings like everyone else, and propagate it. after all, those are genetically identical to the original tree so that is "saving it"

    Thank you for putting this information together! I just finished my own little experiment with three rubber tree (purple one)leaves. I put two leaves in a clear jar with water to propagate. The third leaf I put in a white plastic cup from a restaurant. The clear was barely showing anything. The plastic cup had two inch root on the leaf. I potted that one. The two left I kept one in clear and the other back in that white cup. One week later there was no roots in clear jar and about an inch of roots on the leaf in white cup. Perhaps clear glass is not the way to go for rooting up leaves. Perhaps they would eventually root but maybe the roots don't like all the light coming through. Maybe you could do a official rooting experiment. I just love plants and flowers! I find all of creation just an amazing gift from God our Creator!

    Your ficuses (ficii?) are breathtakingly gorgeous. Their leaves are astounding. I often comment on ficus elastica videos because these plants irritate the heck out of my eyes and make them red and itchy and give me asthma too. When I started suffering from these symptoms, I knew it had to be something new in the environment. I put the two ficuses outside and cleaned around the house, and problem gone in about 2 weeks. Something to do with the natural rubber/latex I guess. I even start to itch when I pass clusters of them in shops because the particles are airborne. Just thought I'd mention it in case someone is your viewers' environments are suffering from mysterious red/itchy eyes and breathing probs. I donated the plants to a new home. I still miss how beautiful they were. Never had a reaction to any other plants - not even dumb canes or English ivy (2 other plants that I banished while trying to find the allergy, but have since welcomed back).

    Man, I am so jealous! I've had a ficus elastica ruby for almost two years now and it has grown like 5 leaves at most (and much smaller than the previous ones). At first I had kept it in its original pot, which was too small and couldn't retain water, so I guessed that was the reason, but after I repotted it (it's been more than a year now) nothing much changed.. It grows like 3 leaves each summer and then stops. Plus, its old leaves are still droopy from when it used to be in its nursery pot. It's in front of a south facing window, so it gets bright light, but no direct sunlight. For a small period I put it outside during the summer to get sunlight, but it was probably too much and some leaves got burnt and it lost all its pink too, so I put it back indoors.. I also fertilize it every now and then, but I don't know what else to do. It was so pretty when I bought it, but now it looks droopy and sad and DOESN'T GROW, lol!

    I inherited a 6-foot tall scragley ficus robusta about 3 years ago. I tidied it up and propegated about 5 different pieces. Only one took though but is now about 3 foot tall and I’m getting a new huge leaf almost every other week. By the way, I live in Chicago and this was my first attempt with a rubber plant/bush/tree. I’ve got 3 other plants that are over 25 years old including a peace lily and an umbrella tree. I’ve killed my almost 20-year old asparagus fern at least a dozen times and it still keeps coming back.
