Like noted by others, the milky sap is actually what the majority of rubber items used to be made of. They would put it in pans and then build fires and smoke it. Then take the sheets and put them into bales. It was called “crepe” rubber. When I first started in a giant tire factory in 1974 this is all we used. But then eventually we went to a rubber/synthetic oil blend. I used to load the batches of ingredients on a conveyor belt for processing. I would go home smelling like a forest fire every night! Lol
This was a great video thank you! I've been looking for one that shows the progress after the tree has been chopped back so much. Thank you for showing what happens in the next couple months in the video!
Thanks! Great advice! We have /had a too tall 7-8’ rubber tree. It all started with 1 leave in a flower arrangement from my father in-laws funeral 6 years ago and has grown like a weed! Now it has 3 stalks 3-4’ tall! Propagating to give each sibling a plant to remember their Dad, a really Great man! Thanks for the info!
This is a fun way to get new trees. When using smaller cuttings it will take maybe a month to get enough roots, don't despair all will go well. I have a 9 foot tall one in front of my house from a 6 inch cutting about 10 years ago. have fun
I usually like to let mine self prune in the ceiling fan on the lanai. Though to be honest, your way does seem more effective. All kidding aside, good video. I was looking for the exact same thing you were. Thanks.
I appreciate this video. I too have a really tall rubber plant and have been so nervous about cutting them but soon I won’t have a choice. This was reassuring. What did you or will you do with the last tall standing stem?
Great video thank you! I also have a one stem 9ft tap tree that needs shortening. I'll try and get the cuttings to take door and put a couple together in a pot. 😊
Thanks so much for this video. I have a tall single stem rubber tree in my apartment and is so worried about cutting for more branches. So worried because it is indoor and lacking sunlight; and that it might not regrow or won’t regrow well.
@@raquelclh but what specifically about that actually stimulates the new growth? Does the already established root system leech something into the water that helps the new root system to grow better?
@@kayseacamp Root hormones! It stimulates the other cuttings to grow lots of roots. It’s a good trick to help pop off some cutting that might be struggling to root right away
G'day Erin. Thanks for your videos. I have bravely cut down my 9 foot tall ficus elastica and got loooooooooots of cuttings which I've had in glass jars and a plastic bath full of water for about a week and a half. They are all starting to grow roots which is exciting. Would you recommend changing the water now? I guess it can't hurt. And Ruby my original plant is going crazy! Lots of new growth and leaves. Thanks again. Steve
🤔If I cut a Rubber Plant stem down about an inch above soil; will it grow back? I inherited a rubber plant that was left in one position (wasn't turned now in then), and the stem near the dirt grew sideways towards the edge of the pot. Unsure how to remedy this, and unsure if it will support the plant when bigger. ~Thanks 😊 ~Portland, Maine
I only have a rubber plant tree (Bubba) my rubber plant tree has 5 stems and is bushy and 2.5 ft tall. I’m worried she is gonna topple over. Oooh wee I’m soo wish it would just do it’s thing so I don’t mess her up. But Atleast I can propagate and start fresh…which would be sad. Thanks for the video.
I'm going to try this. This rubber plant that I have my husband wants to get rid of but this is a plant that was at my brother's funeral that I took home and I want to keep it growing. I killed a plant from my mother's funeral. :(
I have a tree that is touching my ceiling now that I plan to prune. We have had to move a lot the past year and it unfortunately lost most of it's lower leaves. My question is, can I prune closer to the bottom and hope it all comes back or do I need to make sure I prune where there are ledges leaves? If any of that makes sense
hi!! i have a tall rubber plant but it has lose a lot of leaves in the bottom part. can i cut directly that part without leaves and just leave all the top part? i will put that in the water.
Do you place your rubber tree by the west facing window? where should it be ideally place in the west facing window apartment? My rubber plant leaves getting brown dry spots and patches :(
Hi! My cuttings have been in a jar of water for a couple of weeks but I don't see any roots at all, it's the same as the day I cut it. Is this normal or did I kill it? Hahaha
Aqui no Brasil as pessoas não falam a verdade quanto tempo aparecem as raízes? E preciso trocar a água? Qual o tempo da troca? Vc pode me responder??? obrigado Obrigado obrigado
I’m surprised that you are using tap water on your plants. There’s so much salt, fluoride, & chlorine that a lot of times the plants can have problems. JS Your plants ARE beautiful though so your doing something right!!!! LOL 😆
Thanks you for sharing I was looking for tips on how to prune my rubber tree plant and found you. New subbie here. I also have some plant content on my channel along with mostly couponing videos, check it out. Have a great day
An idiot proof plant. Not saying she's an idiot. I'm saying..... You have TRY to kill a rubber tree plant. ALL cuttings will root.... She probably had to give plants to friends.
Here’s an update on the rubber tree and propagations!

So very helpful, especially seeing the progress after cutting. I was hesitant to cut my 7 ft giant, but your video changed my mind. Thanks a bunch!!

Just found you. Thank you for being so easy to understanding. Loved your video and it really answered my questions.
Very nice looking rubber tree 💖👍

Hahaha I mean whatever works 😂 thanks for watching!!
Thank you so much. You really help me be able to prune my rubber tree. Which is only maybe 5 feet tall so I won’t be pruning it. Thank you.
You're adorable! :: Thanks, I'm glad it did well after cutting. I will try this.
thank you. informative, concise and most helpful.
So happy I found this as I've looked, and you was right it's all about small and mine was big like yours, thank you so much xx
Thanks for the informational video! Gonna try it myself.

I love those plants I have 3 pots live with me indoors
Love the fox farm soil some great potting mix
I can’t believe you cut that Beauty
But now she has a whole bunchhhh of bb beauties 🥺
Hi can you explain why putting a propagated pothos helps the propagation of the rubber tree? :) thanks!!
I would like to know the same please 🙂

Why pothos with the big cut off top? What does it do?
Thanks for this!
Thank you for this video! I have a super tall rubber tree that is precariously leaning. Looks like we'll be doing a big chop come spring. 🙈
Good luck!! 💚💚💚

THANKYOU
how did you get the first plant that big?
How you care it mine have been a year not push any leaves???
I threw away the part I cut off cause I had no jars and / or pots to put then in ... I grows so fast I have to cut it again

How is it doing now? Is it branching out? How fast do rubber trees grow?
I never get roots
How low can you cut the tree….I’m concerned that the bigger, woodier the stem it might not branch out.

What soil do you use for rubber plants?

When she tried cutting the limb with the incorrect size pruners, that’s when I quit watching.
