  • Hey plantaholics, so a friend of mine has been looking for a Monstera Deliciosa for some time, so I offered to give him a cutting, that I was rooting in water. Propagating houseplants is an inexpensive way to expand your houseplant collections. It’s also a great way to share houseplants with your family and friends. In this video I go over how to propagate your Monstera Deliciosa. I cover everything from where to cut, how to root in water, when to plant in soil and my potting mix I use. Hope you find this video useful. Enjoy.

Beautiful monstera. It's so weird for me to see this plant being sold for like 100 dollars... Here in Brazil you can find it naturally living in some woods, especially at the seaside, with 3 or 4ft leaves. Even bigger. They're insanely beautiful.
Think I'm going to snap a pice some day.

it's so funny 😄 I paid 80 for mine in Seattle. I proudly took a pic and sent it to my mom in Venezuela. She then went to the backyard and took a pic of their gigantic monstera and sent it back. Her comment : " we didn't plant it she just naturally grew there ☺"

Fun fact, the monstera is not an IT Plant here in BR, here the designers use way more Ficus lyrata for example. Q

I found two Monstera’s by the dumpster so I grabbed them, put them into a new pot, gave them lots of care and love and now they are flourishing!! 🌱🌳🪴
EDIT: 😩My Monstera was so heavy I couldn’t get it inside when we had an unusual temp drop in Feb. and it snowed for two days (southern snow which is really ice lol)😳 I covered the entire plant including covering the top of the dirt but it froze😩 I was devastated! But good news....I cut it back and now I have new growth everywhere!! I am beyond excited-you have no idea!!

I have a few propagations of this plant. I have done it this way and potted. I also experimented with small chunks that don't have leaves or a stem, just some nodes/arial roots and they have been growing leaves also. It's fun to watch them grow! My Monstera mother plant is over 30 years old.

Super timely video. I'm in the middle of propogating my monstera. I didn't really understand it's care or growing habit when I first bought it from IKEA some 2yrs ago and it became really big and unruly. No longer fitting my living room space, I relocated it to a guest bedroom. The mother plant started to fail after enough neglect and I'm now hoping the propogations from it will allow me to start over with a more manageable size of a plant that I understand a lot better now.

The first time that I propagated mine, I prayed and still had a great deal of anxiety! I had a huge guy and she was getting so top heavy! I am glad to report that two were given away and I am looking at the beauty of this beautiful plant! My bestie and my sisters have seven leaves from the two or three that both were given! That was almost two years ago! Now it’s time to propagate again from same plant!
Boy another slight elevated anxiety attack! We are true plant parents (these are my babies)! We feed them with a great fertilizer, we talk and change water or soil and feel saddened when leaves are drooping etc, but let’s remember they’re here to make us Hoppy!
      Tk care!

So glad I came across this video. A good friend of mine gifted me a monstera after my dog passed away. We named it The Shim Shim plant and I destroyed it. All the leaves were burnt and turned yellow and I was devastated in knowing that I killed it. I have cut a few pieces and now propegating it so praying it works.

I've always loved Monstera Deliciosas, and recently I've been wanting one more and more. After doing some research and falling more and more in love with them, I almost caved and bought one off of Amazon or HomeDepot.com for over $50, but something told me to wait. Earlier today, I watched your video where you said you got yours at Walmart for a good price. So I went to Walmart, then two Home Depot's, and then decided it was time to give up for the day. I ended up going to Trader Joe's and finding them for only $10!!!! I ended up leaving with two and I'm so excited to begin my Monstera Deliciosa journey. Thank you for the great videos!!

Bought a 12" piece with two leaves this morning for $10. Went to Lowes and found a huge freaking pot for $15. Kept the small piece and am having the seller ship it to my mom since it's both of our dream plant (along with M. Adansonii, which I also bought a small one of today!), who lives on an island and can't get decent plants without driving an 1-2 hours.

The Monstera Deliciosa’s you can find at places like Lowe’s and Home Depot’s in the states for relatively cheap are almost always the “small form” (priorly called “M.D. Borgisina” (sp) - which have smaller/slightly different shaped leaves and less fenestrations).. they never have the true large form that has giant leaves full of fenestrations and ruffled petioles at big box stores for cheap. I believe those monsteras are what he’s talking about when he mentions them being hard to find and having higher prices (The one he got from Walmart a while back - shown in the video - also looks like the small form). I had one of each (but gave away the small form) - my true M.D. is fully mature and the differences between the two plants were very obvious when you put them next to each other.
